Your Desire Is Prayer: Reframing the Soul of Ambition

Danielle LaPorte

Bare feet. No shoes required. At Wanderlust Festival—where the dress code is liberation and the speaker doesn't have to wear anything but authenticity—Danielle LaPorte stands before a room of seekers and entrepreneurs, opening not with a pitch but with a meditation. "Your cells are made of the same stuff as stars," she offers. "You are meant to be here. Your presence on the planet affects everyone on the planet." It's a grounding before she takes the stage to dismantle everything most of us believe about ambition, prayer, and the difference between wanting something and *being allowed* to want it.

From Asking to Claiming: The Prayer That Changed Everything

LaPorte's real story begins not at Wanderlust but years earlier, in the quiet moments before a gig or before writing—when she would pray. And here's where the architecture of her teaching becomes clear: her prayer had a particular shape. "My request and prayer used to always be 'make me useful,'" she explains, describing the tonality of beseeching, of grasping outward. "Which presupposes I'm not already useful." She's articulating something that runs through so much spiritual practice in the Western mind: the prayer as petition, the plea for rescue from incompleteness, the assumption that what we need must come from outside ourselves.

But something shifted. "When I got clear, my vibration completely changed. I thought 'I want to be useful.' The energy changes from asking for something bigger that's out of me to me recognizing my own desire." It's a deceptively simple move—from "make me" to "I want"—but it's a fundamental reorientation. The prayer stops being a request and becomes a declaration. It stops presupposing insufficiency and starts from the ground of already being whole.

This wasn't abstract for her. Over three years, she's been living with desire as her central creative project, turning what could be a self-help platitude into something more like spiritual philosophy. When she speaks about desire, she's not talking about wanting things—she's talking about the energetic signature of claiming your own power. "Your desire is your prayer," she says, and then says it again, because the repetition matters. The chemistry shifts when you stop asking and start stating.

Why We Don't Give Ourselves Permission

One of the questions that kept appearing across her Fire Starter Sessions—16 cities in one year, held in living rooms, pole dancing studios, boardrooms—was the same refrain, again and again: "Is it okay to want what I want?" The consistency of that question became the real curriculum. LaPorte recognized that her role wasn't to *motivate* people into wanting things; it was to give permission. "Not wanting what you want, not even giving yourself permission to desire what you desire—I think that's like one of our greatest tragedies of the human spirit," she articulates with the kind of clarity that only comes from having excavated the wound yourself.

She traces this back to language and to listening to how we diminish ourselves. Listen to what you say when you talk about what you're going after: "Maybe I should. Maybe I'm being unreasonable. Maybe I should change the timeline." Notice where the apology lives. Notice where you shrink. Because that's where permission needs to be granted—not by anyone else, but by you, to you.

Excellence Requires a Little Craziness

But permission to desire is only half the equation. The other half is the courage to act on that desire when the world pushes back—and most importantly, when you yourself push back.

LaPorte describes a scene that will be familiar to anyone who has created anything: it's midnight, a week before launch. You've invested months. The logo cost money. The website cost real money. You've told your team, your followers, your community what's coming. And then, in that final moment, clarity arrives: "It sucks. I don't like it." The impulse is to push through—you've come this far, everyone's counting on you, who are you to change course now? "Excellence is about being a little unreasonable," she argues. "If you're going to create, you have to be a little bit crazy."

The difference between "meh" and "awesome" isn't completion; it's the courage to make what she calls "11th hour changes"—to call the wedding off, to get up on stage when you weren't expecting to, to stop the press. "If you can park your ego and your fear of looking like a flake or a prima donna, that's where the sweetness is." She's naming the exact ego-space where most creators collapse: the fear of being seen as unreliable, of changing your mind, of being perceived as someone who doesn't follow through. But that fear is the price of mediocrity. Innovation lives in the space where you're willing to be misunderstood.

Getting Clear on Feeling, Not Just Goals

This is where the teaching becomes practical. Because it's not enough to want something; you have to get *clear* on what the feeling of having it would be. "Nine out of 10 people will say they want to feel successful," LaPorte observes. "That's not enough. Get underneath that success. What is success for *you*?" Too many of us have bought into other people's definitions—the metrics, the visible markers, the Instagram aesthetic of achievement. We're chasing someone else's prayer.

When you get clear on the actual *feeling* you're after—not the thing, but the vibration—everything shifts. "When you're clear in how you show up, things come to you quicker. You sort of shorten the distance between you and what you've been asking for," she explains. The feeling is the frequency; the feeling is what magnetizes. If you want to feel affluent, you'll track more affluence. If you're unclear or conflicted about the feeling, you won't think clearly. You won't notice the opportunities. You won't take the risks.

Where to Go From Here

The practical move, then, is this: before your next project, before your next ask, before your next prayer—get clear on what you actually want, not what you think you should want. Name the feeling underneath. Give yourself permission to desire it without apology. And then, when the 11th hour comes—because it will—have the audacity to be a little unreasonable. To look like a flake. To change your mind. Because that's where the brilliance lives.

[0:20] the only person not clapping is my kid

[0:22] in the front

[0:24] row you can get away with so much at

[0:27] wander like you don't have to wear shoes

[0:31] and I think in my next speaker contract

[0:32] I'm like unless there's a Ganesha on

[0:34] stage I'm not doing it I want a Ganesha

[0:36] and green

[0:50] M&M's I think if you're you're brave

[0:53] enough to be in those

[0:55] moments when it's like it's just pure

[0:59] anticipation

[1:00] like you can get drunk on that you know

[1:03] and you never get that first moment

[1:06] again I think that that's really the

[1:08] most courageous thing I can do is just

[1:10] like look at me and just be with that

[1:14] and it's a it's get a little bit of a

[1:17] buzz

[1:19] um I want to start because we're at

[1:22] Wanderlust I can't get away with this uh

[1:24] at a corporation let's start with some

[1:26] Cosmic

[1:27] radio so I'm not I'm I have to not pass

[1:31] this line

[1:33] uh with your eyes open let's take a deep

[1:36] breath

[1:38] in and out and then close your

[1:42] eyes nobody's watching

[1:47] you and imagine that your

[1:51] heart is like an

[1:53] ear or a

[1:55] flower that catches everything

[2:00] and the idea here is

[2:04] that you really your cells are going to

[2:08] vibrate with just the the frequency of

[2:10] these words I'm going to give

[2:13] you

[2:19] you you

[2:23] are you are

[2:27] here you are meant to be here

[2:32] your cells are made of the same stuff as

[2:36] stars you were expected you were invited

[2:41] you are sanctioned you are

[2:44] ordained your presence on the planet

[2:48] affects everyone on the

[2:51] planet you are your own

[2:54] star your thoughts are a

[2:58] Galaxy you are important

[3:01] you are

[3:02] needed you are

[3:05] required you are

[3:10] loved you are

[3:15] thanked deep

[3:18] breath you can open your

[3:25] eyes you don't get that at a TED

[3:28] Talk that's MO ational speaking um I was

[3:34] I've been thinking about you for a few

[3:35] days and um my commitment in creativity

[3:41] is to be current so what's current for

[3:43] me right now is a discussion around a

[3:45] relationship to prayer and I want to

[3:48] talk just a little bit about uh

[3:51] relationship to

[3:53] prayer and I last night before I went to

[3:56] bed I thought I should really look at

[3:57] what I was supposed to be talking about

[3:59] which is I called it the soul of

[4:01] ambition which sounded good like 3

[4:02] months ago and I tell you half the

[4:05] speakers you know we just we come up

[4:07] with it just sounds really poetic at the

[4:09] time and then the day before everybody

[4:11] asks you what you're talking about you

[4:12] go I don't I'm G to I don't know um so a

[4:16] demonstration my relationship to prayer

[4:18] used to be um my request is always to be

[4:22] useful especially before a gig or before

[4:25] I write and it used to go like this make

[4:28] me

[4:29] useful that was my prayer make me so so

[4:31] you can even see like there's this

[4:34] there's this openness but there's this

[4:36] grasping I'm looking outside of myself

[4:39] make me

[4:41] useful which presupposes I'm not useful

[4:44] make me useful make me Rich make me hot

[4:49] bring it bring him bring her take me out

[4:53] of this it's

[4:56] out and then I got clear that my

[4:59] vibration completely completely change

[5:01] when my prayer just became I want to be

[5:05] useful I want to be

[5:07] useful and all your energy you don't

[5:10] have to you can go we love

[5:13] you the energy changes from its out of

[5:16] me to it's just me and my

[5:20] desire and I've been really living with

[5:23] this question about desire for the last

[5:25] really the last three years and that's

[5:27] my current creative project working on a

[5:30] project called

[5:32] desire and when I could get myself in

[5:34] that place of switching my relationship

[5:36] with prayer to um my prayer is just what

[5:39] I want it is my intention I got really

[5:44] clear that your desire is your

[5:48] prayer let me say it again your

[5:51] desires are your

[5:54] prayers that no wish is

[5:58] unheard so so it the the chemistry of

[6:02] prayer becomes about a commitment to

[6:05] fully want what you

[6:07] want and not wanting what you want not

[6:11] even giving yourself permission to

[6:14] desire what you desire I think is like

[6:17] one of our greatest tragedies of the

[6:18] human spirit so a few it's about three

[6:21] or four years ago now um my company

[6:25] ended it was a bitter divorce and I had

[6:28] to really quickly reinvent

[6:31] myself and so I started my website um

[6:36] but don't make your money off your

[6:38] website uh it's not scalable as we've

[6:41] discussed Kate and I uh and but I knew

[6:44] that I could help people start a

[6:46] business and I'm going to call it so

[6:49] it's got to be something hot I'll call

[6:50] it a fire starter session and I'll just

[6:53] put this post out on my blog and see if

[6:55] anybody calls and I'll make it up as I

[6:57] go and I called a few friends and said

[6:59] what should I charge here's a price tag

[7:01] phone called phone rang somebody else

[7:03] called did another session another

[7:04] session and then I thought I should take

[7:06] this show on the road so I did um 16

[7:10] cities in a year damn near killed me I

[7:12] did one in Whistler actually in

[7:14] somebody's living room I did them in

[7:15] living rooms I did one in a pole dancing

[7:17] studio in La that was weird um I did

[7:21] them in boardrooms I never had a Ganesha

[7:24] they all would have been better with a

[7:25] gasha um and in bare feet and I kept

[7:29] hearing the same same theme over and

[7:31] over again is it okay to want what I

[7:34] want and you know I was in a position

[7:37] come welcome I was in a position you

[7:39] know my role as like an entrepreneur and

[7:42] you know being is all my brand is all

[7:44] about motivating twinkle and tooth

[7:48] um uh it was how am I going to get

[7:51] people to get themselves in a place of

[7:54] giving them permiss permission to want

[7:55] what they want and actually go for it so

[7:59] when do you apologize to yourself for

[8:01] your

[8:02] desires when do you shrink from your own

[8:06] dreams when you're talking to somebody

[8:08] about what you're going after listen to

[8:11] your language maybe I should maybe I'm

[8:14] being unreasonable maybe I should change

[8:16] the timeline who's going to show up

[8:19] Excellence is about being unreasonable

[8:22] if you're going to create you have to be

[8:24] a little bit crazy you have to change

[8:27] your mind at the 11th hour I see this

[8:29] happen at the the the call to Innovation

[8:32] is

[8:34] um you know in this in this safe space

[8:36] here you've been working on something

[8:38] for months you've put your money into it

[8:41] you paid your 500 bucks for your logo

[8:44] you paid your $55,000 for the website

[8:46] you're a week away from launching it's m

[8:49] midnight and you realize it

[8:51] sucks I don't like

[8:54] it and you think I just put all that

[8:56] money in there and I just told my whole

[8:58] team my whole team's been following me

[8:59] for 6 months I this is exactly what I've

[9:01] asked for I've been leading everyone Al

[9:03] I've been saying this is great and I

[9:05] want to puke when I think about

[9:07] launching this or when I think I'm going

[9:09] to give this speech or this is the talk

[9:10] or this is the request or this is the

[9:12] ask at the office this is not what I

[9:14] want the difference between mediocre is

[9:17] going ahead with it versus Innovation

[9:21] and great and a bold life is stopping

[9:23] the

[9:24] press the courage to make the 11th Hour

[9:28] changes to call the wedding off

[9:31] to get up on stage when you weren't

[9:33] expecting to is the difference between

[9:37] me and

[9:39] awesome and I think we all want

[9:41] awesome because we're all Lusty

[9:43] wandering people well just come right

[9:47] in um but this place is fraught with ego

[9:52] because you don't want to look like a

[9:54] flake because everything you've asked

[9:57] for is here you planned the wedding you

[10:00] built the website you designed that but

[10:04] if you can park your ego and just take

[10:06] the risk of looking like a flake or a

[10:10] primadonna um or an Escapist or someone

[10:14] who's untrustworthy or unreliable this

[10:17] is where the sweetness is uh who here

[10:22] identifies as being an

[10:24] entrepreneur oh awesome okay um and do

[10:28] we all identify as being creatives

[10:32] creative types okay yeah do you have a

[10:35] question and and I'm going to like

[10:37] totally open this up for questions just

[10:39] stop talking but if you have if you want

[10:40] to shout anything between now do you

[10:42] have a question you're just identifying

[10:44] as being you're identifying I am

[10:46] creative okay um in the fire starter

[10:50] sessions book that I wrote I talk about

[10:54] your cocktail

[10:56] line and what I say is that your

[10:59] elevator pitch your um your cocktail

[11:04] line is a sacred

[11:07] distillation of who you are of how you

[11:10] show up in the world you will not hear

[11:12] this in an MBA program when they're talk

[11:14] telling you about how to do your FIV

[11:16] minute pitch and the reason it's so

[11:19] important to have one is because when

[11:22] you're clear in how you show up things

[11:25] come to you quicker you sort of shorten

[11:28] the distance between you and what you've

[11:30] been asking for so when you meet

[11:33] somebody at a

[11:34] party and they ask you how you are first

[11:37] of all how do you feel about the

[11:38] question dread do you need to go to the

[11:42] bathroom you get I'll get you new I'll

[11:44] fill you up anybody need a

[11:45] drink um and then how do you feel when

[11:49] you say what you do and who you are in

[11:52] the world really matters how you feel

[11:55] and in your cocktail line it's not about

[11:59] giving or it's not it's not about

[12:01] getting it's not about the dreaded word

[12:03] networking I have you know I'm going to

[12:05] I'm going to do a whole blog post on

[12:06] just a bucket of dreaded words

[12:09] networking

[12:11] brainstorming please stop brainstorming

[12:14] talk about what you're interested in um

[12:17] boot camp please can we just stop having

[12:20] boot camps for

[12:22] everything no more boot camp products or

[12:25] launches um one of the reasons being

[12:28] it's overused but you have to think

[12:30] about the origin of the words boot camps

[12:32] are about going to war people say we're

[12:35] going to Blitz it you know what a blitz

[12:36] is about it's about Blitz cre it's about

[12:38] battle think you know the sacredness of

[12:40] of words so um I think how you show up

[12:45] if you're not proud of what you're doing

[12:46] at the moment is you talk about what

[12:48] you're interested in and that's where

[12:50] magnetism comes in so I went to uh one

[12:54] of many personal development workshops

[12:56] where they try to break you down and

[12:57] build you up and they don't let you pee

[12:58] for 24 hours

[13:00] and Guy stood up this is in Vancouver

[13:03] actually and he stood up and said I'm um

[13:06] sanitation worker everybody's like

[13:08] sanitation work am I are you what I you

[13:10] think you are am I are you what I think

[13:12] you are I'm a garbage man and um that's

[13:16] what I do during the day and yeah it

[13:19] blows but it's how I am making a living

[13:22] right now and what I'm really interested

[13:23] is in is and he talked about his work on

[13:26] the downtown east side and he talked

[13:29] about taking a course at night for um

[13:32] investment in import export and he

[13:34] appear you know and then we could see

[13:35] the whole person so I think it's

[13:39] essential in um to come up with that

[13:42] that distillation about how you walk

[13:44] through the world and it all has to be

[13:46] anchored to what you're interested in I

[13:50] just met Megan Waton last night for the

[13:52] first time we've been like orbiting each

[13:54] other last for a long time and we had

[13:56] dinner together last night and she did

[13:59] something a lot of authors don't do

[14:02] which is usually

[14:05] authors a lot of us just in the creative

[14:08] space we identify with our

[14:10] products so we say I have a book and my

[14:14] book's title is and my book is about and

[14:17] aren't I

[14:18] great Megan did not talk about her book

[14:21] at all I had to ask like 20 minutes in I

[14:22] was like does your book have a title um

[14:24] she talked about what she was interested

[14:27] in and this is why I think I'm here

[14:30] why I think I'm on the planet and that

[14:32] doesn't work at all parties and it's not

[14:34] going to work when you're asking for

[14:35] money necessarily in a

[14:37] boardroom um but I think it works at the

[14:40] parties that wander Lusty people want to

[14:42] be

[14:44] at so in the spirit of being

[14:47] useful um let me I'm just going to give

[14:49] you a few minutes on who I am and then I

[14:52] want to open it up um and we talk about

[14:56] anything so who I am is that I'm I'm

[15:00] very interested in the entrepreneurial

[15:02] spirit and bringing that into like very

[15:05] clearly entrepreneurial settings but

[15:08] really using that in every area of your

[15:10] life and it's about

[15:13] creativity I think that

[15:18] um I think that the women that the world

[15:20] needs women to

[15:23] lead um do you know that 80% of women

[15:25] have one breast larger than the

[15:28] other something you probably didn't know

[15:32] about all the women in this room

[15:35] um I'm I have a I have a tumultuous

[15:39] relationship with vegetarianism and meat

[15:42] and I had a burger last night and I

[15:43] thought I was going to get paintballed

[15:44] when I came out of the restaurant

[15:45] because I was at wander

[15:47] lust but love

[15:49] bacon I married the same man twice I

[15:52] have I have seven wedding rings because

[15:55] I can never

[15:57] commit um same person

[16:00] I started a company uh that was a

[16:02] lifestyle Media company which is just a

[16:04] fancy name for a website and I raised a

[16:07] bunch of money and I made myself an

[16:10] employee of that incorporation and I got

[16:12] fired from my own

[16:14] company and that was a defining moment

[16:16] for me and that's what I really learned

[16:17] that creative sovereignty is bliss and

[16:21] on my way home that day um you know

[16:24] white knuckling it driving home from

[16:26] Granville Island to where I live in off

[16:29] Commercial

[16:30] Drive even though I was just in this

[16:33] this trauma of Fury I got fired from my

[16:36] own

[16:39] company right there I just felt this

[16:42] yes and what became very clear was that

[16:46] my

[16:47] betrayal uh my self- betrayal led to

[16:50] this theater of betrayal around me in

[16:53] business and there was really I I I

[16:56] learned I learned a thousand lessons in

[16:59] that you know eye of the needle and

[17:00] dealing with bankers and you know when

[17:02] Bankers are calling your cell phone it's

[17:04] bad you're in a bad place

[17:08] um but I learned that you can always

[17:11] take more that this thought form that

[17:14] you can't take it is just a thought form

[17:17] remember once I used to I was living in

[17:19] Santa Fe and I just broken up with my

[17:22] boyfriend I just lost a $70,000

[17:25] conference contract I was going to plan

[17:26] a conference for

[17:28] somebody and and um I wasn't even

[17:31] legally working in the

[17:33] states um so I never asked anybody for

[17:37] money I had to call my old man ask him

[17:39] for rent money I was smoking a lot of

[17:41] bents and hedges and I was walking down

[17:44] the lane with my friend and I just said

[17:46] I just can't take anymore and when my

[17:48] Saturn return which only people at

[17:50] wander L know what that means right um

[17:53] and she said of course you can you've

[17:55] just so told yourself you you can't and

[17:57] I just thought aren't you my friend

[18:00] where's the

[18:01] sympathy and there was a switch it was

[18:04] like this Chiropractic adjustment in my

[18:07] spirit where I thought I can take more

[18:09] bring it on and in that in that

[18:13] Readjustment of I can take more misery I

[18:16] open myself up to more joy and to more

[18:20] assistance so bring it on back to me and

[18:25] what would be relevant to be useful to

[18:27] you um I also have a very conf IED

[18:29] relationship with meditation I took a

[18:31] meditation break because it was just

[18:33] annoying me

[18:37] and um I'm very interested in

[18:40] conversations around spiritual glamour

[18:41] which would be very interesting

[18:42] conversation to have here my first

[18:45] lesson about spiritual glamour uh

[18:47] happened in a meeting with the DOL Lama

[18:50] because we're like this the DL and I

[18:54] and um so I went to India I got invited

[18:58] just there was a group of six of us to

[18:59] meet his Holiness and I'll tell you how

[19:02] broke I was at the time I was so broke I

[19:04] actually got the invite to go I was like

[19:06] I need to think about

[19:07] it who thinks about going to India to

[19:10] meet the T Lama right and I'm just like

[19:12] I don't how much money do I have in my

[19:14] credit card to get on the

[19:15] flight and so north northern India Dar

[19:20] Salah 3 days to get there and we're in

[19:23] his private his meeting area he has a

[19:26] secretary who comes in and kind of gets

[19:28] you set up for the me meeting

[19:32] and before EV before he answered every

[19:34] question he said I don't know we said do

[19:37] you know you want to talk can you talk

[19:39] to us about um extraterrestrial

[19:42] Consciousness oh I don't know I don't

[19:44] know and then he would give you this

[19:46] fantastic answer when he walked in he

[19:49] apologized to us and I was like dude

[19:52] it's okay you do not have to apologize

[19:54] for being late so sorry for being late

[19:56] really wow

[19:59] um but in the midst of all of that I

[20:02] caught myself being very glamored I'd

[20:05] made this big journey and wasn't I

[20:08] special and I had my Mala beads and I

[20:11] had my what do you call the white things

[20:13] the katas the scarf and of I'll tell you

[20:17] this is how unevolved I am I was pissed

[20:20] off that the Kata that they gave me at

[20:22] the beginning of the meeting they take

[20:24] it and He blesses it kind of behind this

[20:26] curtain and they gave me someone else's

[20:28] Kata back at the end and I was just like

[20:30] this totally affects my experience with

[20:31] the doly

[20:32] Lama

[20:34] um but I could feel my mind just going

[20:37] to this place of Glamour and like this

[20:39] is the doy Lama and this is a story I'm

[20:42] going to tell someday in a speaking

[20:45] gig and I just had to stop and say but I

[20:49] my heart wants to know if he's the real

[20:51] thing and the answer in my heart was

[20:53] that yes to me he was the real thing and

[20:58] I think I think being awake staying

[21:01] awake in spiritual venues um and

[21:05] conversations and events requires a kind

[21:07] of

[21:08] ruthlessness so that we do not get

[21:11] glamored by our own pursuit of the truth

[21:14] because we all look really good here

[21:15] this weekend there's a lot of hot bodies

[21:18] here there's a lot of Eco

[21:23] cotton we are so good we are so green

[21:26] there's recycling bins in our hotel

[21:28] rooms

[21:29] Namaste being pushed out to the world

[21:32] but is it real and only you can answer

[21:34] that it's like Carl Young says only the

[21:36] dreamer knows the dream only you can

[21:39] interpret your own

[21:41] truth I have a yellow

[21:43] lab and my son is here drawing in the

[21:46] front

[21:47] row um what can we talk about how can I

[21:51] be of

[21:53] service one word you can shout a word

[21:56] you can ask about raising money you can

[21:58] ask about publishing published many

[22:02] books I don't want to talk about Twitter

[22:04] but for you I will we can talk about

[22:05] online

[22:07] traffic hello hi Terry I have a question

[22:10] about

[22:11] desire about how um can I really tap

[22:16] into my

[22:20] desire uh desire is a

[22:25] feeling my current theory is that we we

[22:29] have our relationship to ambition

[22:30] completely

[22:31] backwards and that all of our goal

[22:34] setting is an external thing it's back

[22:36] to this right give me this because I

[22:38] made my list and I have it in my bucket

[22:40] I got my bucket list help me with my

[22:43] bucket

[22:43] list and that everything you're going

[22:47] after everything you eat you put into

[22:49] your body the people you hang out with

[22:51] the things you buy the clothes you wear

[22:52] the Mala beads you pick out are all

[22:55] because you want to feel a certain way

[22:59] so why don't we first get clear on how

[23:01] we want to feel so forget your strategic

[23:05] plans forget your fiveyear goals forget

[23:08] your want forget your New Year's

[23:10] resolutions just first get clear on how

[23:14] you want to feel so I once ran this

[23:17] Theory by my former literary agent and I

[23:21] said look you

[23:22] know Bernie mtof who ripped many people

[23:26] off of millions of dollars want wanted

[23:29] to feel a certain way and Mother Teresa

[23:31] did what she did because she wanted to

[23:33] feel a certain way and she's like you

[23:35] cannot put Bernie Matt off and Mother

[23:36] Teresa in the same sense and I said I

[23:38] did I just did I

[23:40] can

[23:43] and no one escapes this it's you know

[23:47] Renee dayart philosopher I think

[23:49] therefore I am me I think it's I feel

[23:53] and therefore I am so the exercise is

[23:57] very simple you walk through every every

[23:59] area of your life your

[24:01] relationships and your your rest and

[24:03] relaxation and your Wellness Plan and

[24:07] job vocation money wealth cash whatever

[24:10] you want to call it your inner life your

[24:14] spirituality and stuff I think there has

[24:16] to be a special category for stuff

[24:19] that's everything from you know your

[24:21] yoga mat to your car to the artwork to

[24:23] your home to stuff you bring into your

[24:27] life and ask yourself how how you want

[24:29] to feel in every area of your life and

[24:33] what will happen is you will see a

[24:35] pattern in that you will start the same

[24:38] word different words with the same

[24:40] meaning will start to show up

[24:43] and what I would nudge you to do in this

[24:47] everybody says they want to feel

[24:49] successful nine out of 10 people will

[24:51] say they want to feel

[24:54] successful no you're not allowed to want

[24:56] to feel successful it's get underneath

[24:59] your definition of success this is why

[25:02] we're all so screwed up it's because

[25:05] we've bought into other people's

[25:06] definition of success whether it's the

[25:08] Dal Lama's version of success or it's a

[25:11] Tony Robbins version of success or it's

[25:15] your mama's or it's reality TV or it's

[25:17] leport or whatever it is it's somebody

[25:19] else's definition so how does success

[25:22] feel does it have a

[25:25] smell how you going to know when you get

[25:27] there

[25:30] and there's no guarantees that if you

[25:33] get clear on your feeling you're going

[25:35] to get where you want to go but I think

[25:38] you really increase the probability of

[25:42] of getting what you want because when

[25:44] you have a Clarity of feeling you know

[25:47] immediately how you can get yourself

[25:48] into that state and it doesn't have to

[25:50] be with grand goal settings it's not

[25:52] about climbing something or anything

[25:55] extreme is this whole theme of extreme

[25:58] now I even like vashna has become

[26:00] extreme you know it's it's you know we

[26:03] got like the extreme sport everything's

[26:05] a marathon

[26:07] now I'm not getting VNA

[26:11] um uh

[26:14] so where was I shortening the Gap with

[26:17] the feelings oh making it very easy to

[26:19] create that desired state so I'm clear

[26:22] that one of my desired feelings is

[26:25] affluence if you look up the def

[26:27] definition of the word it's not just

[26:28] about money or cash or prosperity it's

[26:32] about a fluidity so I want to feel a

[26:34] fluidity of energy and a currency and I

[26:36] want that cash too um when I'm not

[26:39] feeling affluent when I'm worried about

[26:41] cash flow in my business or there's a

[26:44] discussion about getting the house

[26:46] paying the house you know whatever

[26:48] tightening

[26:50] up being affluent that day can be so

[26:53] simple I can retweet somebody's post and

[26:56] help send some traffic their way

[26:59] I can make a donation I got four

[27:02] Charities that I give to I can up it

[27:04] that month I can instead of walking by

[27:07] the guy on the corner of commercial and

[27:09] first I can give him more than the

[27:12] change in my pocket I can actually go

[27:14] out of my way and like buy him a

[27:16] sandwich and I feel affluent when you

[27:19] feel affluent you track more affluence

[27:22] when you feel grateful you attract more

[27:24] reasons to be grateful we all know when

[27:26] we feel angry we attract more things to

[27:28] piss us off so desire is all about

[27:33] feeling and

[27:37] emotion I don't know what that was that

[27:43] is that's a new thing that's a

[27:47] new

[27:50] thing that's me quoting myself that's a

[27:52] like extreme narcissism

[27:55] pose hi Danielle um I am wondering hi hi

[28:01] um when you're on the track to me and

[28:05] it's 11:30 before your website launches

[28:08] and you know it's going to be yeah

[28:10] um but it's already gone to press oh um

[28:13] that's okay what you do to restore the

[28:16] Integrity of your project so that you

[28:19] can return back to Greatness great

[28:22] question okay heaping doses fire hose

[28:27] doses of self-compassion

[28:29] or you won't think clearly if you're

[28:31] criticizing yourself for doing what you

[28:33] didn't want to do or pulling the trigger

[28:35] when you shouldn't have uh you're not

[28:38] going to be as

[28:39] strategically precise as you need to be

[28:42] so well look at that I Still Rock

[28:44] because we had Cosmic radio and the

[28:46] universe told you you were awesome and

[28:47] you're important and you don't have to

[28:49] worry about launching

[28:53] um you can always change and I really

[28:55] think nobody is paying that much

[28:56] attention to anybody

[28:58] [Laughter]

[29:02] you know like we're all going home it's

[29:03] like I need to I got to go cuz I got to

[29:05] blog I got to got a Blog tonight like

[29:08] who's listening nobody's waiting even if

[29:11] you have a lot of traffic and huge

[29:12] subscribers I guarantee you they're not

[29:15] waiting for you it's

[29:17] like you know I wait for some albums to

[29:20] drop like I wait was I was waiting for

[29:22] the new matou I you know I've waiting

[29:25] for Michael frany um who cares if you're

[29:30] they're not waiting for you so there's

[29:31] there's that we're never I think so

[29:33] often we're just not as important as we

[29:34] think we

[29:35] are um and then you don't do it because

[29:40] of this but when you can do the old kung

[29:42] fu and change quickly and admit publicly

[29:45] that something wasn't quite right and

[29:47] you

[29:48] change your reputation becomes Sterling

[29:53] you become accessible you are wearing

[29:58] Pooky are you

[30:00] yawning um wearing your heart on your

[30:04] sleeve is great branding and you don't

[30:07] do it for that reason but change quickly

[30:09] and admit tell the truth and tell it

[30:11] fast there I was concise tell the truth

[30:13] and tell it fast

[30:15] change and you know this leads to um a

[30:20] bigger issue about creativity which is

[30:23] destruction which I'm really this is

[30:25] like my I'm like this having like this

[30:27] erotic relationship ship lately with

[30:29] breaking stuff that I've made and you

[30:32] know like a few weeks ago talking to

[30:34] friends they're like I want to shave my

[30:35] head and I want to burn everything I've

[30:37] ever written and I just want to blow my

[30:40] website up and the answer from you know

[30:42] the people I respect the most was well

[30:44] you better do

[30:45] that I'm not going to shave my head

[30:48] because I'm too vain although I want to

[30:49] take my kid to Indian we we'll do it on

[30:51] the ganes

[30:54] um but you cannot live in that

[30:57] Innovative place place without

[30:59] destroying stuff and walking away from

[31:01] stuff so just reading a um an interview

[31:05] with Bruce Springstein and he was

[31:07] talking about his iconic status and how

[31:10] I essentially what he was saying was he

[31:12] got sick of himself when he was like you

[31:14] know at the Zenith being the boss and

[31:17] the only way to move forward is to

[31:19] destroy all that so like what ideas are

[31:22] you Clinging On To What gimmicks have

[31:25] served you well in relationship in

[31:27] communication in business business that

[31:29] are starting to feel old and stale if

[31:32] you can't talk about something with

[31:34] passion if you have any

[31:36] embarrassment if you if if you can't if

[31:40] you don't feel turned on by your own

[31:41] creative

[31:42] output something's wrong you've got

[31:46] you've got to feel turned on by yourself

[31:48] especially if you're giving something to

[31:50] the world um if not you're not doing

[31:53] anybody any favors so to get turned on I

[31:56] think you need to break stuff

[31:59] and often times it's going to look like

[32:00] losing money it's going to look like

[32:03] walking away it will often look like

[32:05] waste but it isn't it isn't it's organic

[32:08] it goes into the goes into the cosmic

[32:11] compost and uh it will Fu you I'm

[32:14] tearing everything AP I'm taking my

[32:15] website down I might even burn a book

[32:18] just for fun so go buy them but I'm just

[32:21] going to burn one just to get that

[32:23] feeling

[32:25] yes hi first of all I want to say that I

[32:29] love you I love you too thank you and

[32:32] that I flew from New York City I found

[32:34] out you were going to be here speaking

[32:36] on Wednesday and I bought a ticket to be

[32:38] here for

[32:39] today thank you that's how much I love

[32:42] you and you brought a hot dude with you

[32:45] I did it's

[32:47] true my love he's not saying anything

[32:50] he's just like don't put the mic in my

[32:52] face okay so I have a couple of things

[32:55] that really just fired me up when when I

[32:58] heard you say them one is when you said

[33:00] what you're interested and what you

[33:02] believe in is women leading I would love

[33:05] to hear you speak more about that and

[33:08] I'm right now right on this edge of

[33:11] jumping into this into writing a book

[33:14] and I'm I'd love to hear you speak about

[33:18] how you did that I mean I know you have

[33:19] the big beautiful book plan getting

[33:22] there but I wanted to hear you in person

[33:24] speak about it women leading so let me

[33:27] relang that I think it's about the

[33:29] feminine Spirit

[33:31] leading so I think it's about men

[33:35] getting being in a operating their

[33:38] feminine Spirit still I mean I like my

[33:40] men to be men and we need the masculine

[33:43] not that you care how I like my men but

[33:45] [Laughter]

[33:47] um

[33:49] um there's

[33:51] something about how women do business

[33:54] that is very timely a perfect match for

[33:58] our problems right

[34:00] now I've never been to a meeting a

[34:03] business meeting with women where

[34:05] someone hasn't

[34:07] said um a how are you how is everybody

[34:10] and what is does do you need anything

[34:12] and we always come with food this is how

[34:15] we come with grapes we come with

[34:17] chocolate we come with

[34:20] supplies so there's a there's just a

[34:23] natural carus a caring that happens with

[34:27] women um um we're

[34:30] inclusive

[34:31] and there is the intuition there is you

[34:34] know the male energy has that instinct

[34:37] but that instinct is very directed so

[34:40] that instinct is about I think the best

[34:42] way to get from A to B is is that way or

[34:45] I think the Buffalo is hiding over there

[34:48] whereas the female intuition is how do

[34:51] we all get there together how are every

[34:54] how are how is everybody's needs

[34:56] included

[34:58] and one of my lessons in business and

[35:00] this came the hard way um I used to act

[35:04] like a

[35:05] man because I thought I was going to get

[35:08] me what I wanted which was acceptance

[35:11] and and venture

[35:13] capital and I felt afraid to just

[35:18] be

[35:22] um not vulnerable because there's lots

[35:24] of times where it's not wise to be

[35:26] vulnerable and I think that's a fe I

[35:28] think that's a mistake women make it's

[35:30] not smart to cry in business

[35:33] meetings you really you need to there

[35:36] are there are there are appropriate

[35:38] times to be very tender and you have to

[35:41] bring your you know you've still got to

[35:43] have your that kind of warrioress about

[35:46] um your feminine energy but um there's

[35:50] dressing like a man there's the

[35:53] objective becoming

[35:55] everything I you know people I used to

[35:57] hear so often in my 20s that the the you

[36:00] know it's about the journey I'd be like

[36:02] whatever that is so like it's about

[36:05] results it's about getting there and it

[36:08] really is about the

[36:10] process and how you feel when you sit

[36:13] down to write your book or give your

[36:16] talk or raise your children or ask or

[36:19] hit the slopes or whatever completely

[36:22] entirely influences the outcome more

[36:26] play in the process equals more more joy

[36:29] in the product more intuition and

[36:32] Instinct in the process equals something

[36:34] that's going to give people more insight

[36:37] you've got to feel good doing it if you

[36:39] don't feel good doing it you need to

[36:40] stop which is and it's often

[36:42] counterintuitive to stop right when

[36:44] you're exhausted to you know you're

[36:45] hitting the deadline we think we need to

[36:47] go more we actually need to take a

[36:50] nap

[36:52] um and just like a little semicolon on

[36:55] that that's not just about feminine

[36:56] leadership

[36:58] why don't we just work with

[37:00] friends I don't want to work with

[37:02] anybody that I wouldn't have over to my

[37:04] house for

[37:05] dinner um I used to think that in order

[37:09] to be a spiritual evolved entrepreneur

[37:12] that I needed to um work with people who

[37:16] saw the world differently than I

[37:18] did um and that always led to like

[37:21] heartbreaks or lawsuits or someone being

[37:23] really pissed off and what I got really

[37:26] clear on and this felt really self at

[37:28] the time was that I can only if I want

[37:31] to be in my zone working my medicine I

[37:35] can only work with people who have the

[37:38] same world view as I

[37:40] do and my world my basic my two tenants

[37:44] of my my the cornerstones of my

[37:46] worldview is that everything happens for

[37:48] a reason it's all

[37:51] progress and that trust is a form of

[37:54] strength uh an open heart is the way to

[37:57] go

[37:58] and if you believe that if that's your

[38:01] lens for operating in the world then get

[38:04] on my bus and it doesn't matter if

[38:06] you're a Buddhist or a Baptist if you're

[38:07] a starter or you're a finisher or an

[38:10] intuitive or an extrovert then we rock

[38:12] after you have that basic World viiew um

[38:16] then you have to find diversity you need

[38:17] to work with people who are very

[38:19] different than you to lift things off

[38:21] the

[38:22] ground about publishing and writing

[38:24] books what were you saying in were

[38:26] saying in the car what Tayla what's your

[38:28] advice for writing oh shut the up

[38:31] and write yeah shut the up and

[38:33] write um it's funny if you write it gets

[38:36] written um you need to have the spine of

[38:40] your idea for whatever you're creating

[38:42] read uh twi's creative habit she talks

[38:46] about having the creative spine that

[38:48] every project needs its idea and this is

[38:51] why um if you if you don't have that

[38:54] core idea about why you're doing it it

[38:57] gets mushy it costs you money your your

[39:00] promotional copy is sucky so you need

[39:03] your creative spine and how I literally

[39:06] create projects

[39:08] is we tell you how I got there how most

[39:12] speakers create their talks or this is

[39:15] this is sort of the old way the old

[39:16] training of speaking is you figure out

[39:18] what your thesis is your point and then

[39:21] you find the research the data or your

[39:23] own stories your own anecdotes to

[39:25] support that theory

[39:29] wrong a more holistic way of doing it as

[39:32] my speaking coach uh says it like keep

[39:35] you in The Home Zone is you just go

[39:38] through the archives in your psyche and

[39:40] your heart and you recapitulate you

[39:43] recall the stories in your life the

[39:46] moments that have touched you the

[39:48] most the mantras you've remembered the

[39:51] people you've met on the street the W

[39:54] the you know the urban myth the wives

[39:55] tail and when you add all those up when

[39:57] you look at all of those those will

[39:59] point to your message those are the

[40:02] reasons um the reason you're you're

[40:04] moved with that somehow relates to what

[40:07] you want to give to the world so what I

[40:10] do when I create it's all about Post-it

[40:12] notes I cannot do anything without

[40:13] Post-it notes and I get a big board and

[40:17] I write all the stories I've remembered

[40:19] all the moments that have touched me in

[40:22] recent

[40:23] time um and then everything I just want

[40:26] to put out in the world

[40:29] and then I create theme buckets it's all

[40:31] about P getting your creative spine in

[40:34] anything you do is all about pattern

[40:37] recognition and you go oh that idea

[40:39] about emotion goes in this bucket here

[40:41] that I think is starting to be about

[40:43] feeling and this thing about prayer

[40:45] that's about ambition and that and then

[40:48] you just and you start and you should

[40:50] then and you have seven

[40:54] things and then personally as a writer

[40:56] I'm a scrubber

[40:58] it's really an aggravating way to write

[41:00] so I write I don't move on I get so I do

[41:03] a draft and then that paragraph has to

[41:05] be perfect then I move on to the next

[41:07] paragraph and I scrub the next one and I

[41:10] start and I write in sequence it's

[41:12] terrible it's really gr young grinder

[41:16] but it

[41:16] [Laughter]

[41:20] works hi Dan thank you so much for being

[41:23] here um you've kind of briefly touched

[41:26] on the desire topic but wanted you to

[41:28] kind of address it in the face of like

[41:31] how inundated we are with information

[41:33] and how to keep clear

[41:36] on I guess on your path in the sense of

[41:39] always being distracted and a lot of

[41:41] what we hear about this weekend is you

[41:43] know be present be present be present

[41:45] and how you

[41:46] can do that even with what's going on

[41:51] just In This Moment CU I just I think I

[41:53] just feel totally overwhelmed MH

[41:58] I have a few things that clear that is

[42:00] so clear thank

[42:05] you how about

[42:07] welmed how about just being welmed just

[42:10] try it on because it's sort of that that

[42:14] same feeling of like I can't take it

[42:16] anymore we get we move into overwhelm

[42:19] and I'm just now I used to use the word

[42:21] overwhelmed I just like I'm welmed I'm

[42:23] really welmed I'm welmed with everything

[42:25] to do I'm welmed with gratitude I'm

[42:27] welmed and I feel a sense of

[42:29] spaciousness in

[42:31] that you have to say no to stuff and I

[42:34] think there's a difference between

[42:36] stupid ambition and wild crazy awesome

[42:40] ambition and stupid ambition happens a

[42:43] lot in Silicon

[42:44] Valley so we decide I'm going to create

[42:49] this I'm going to launch this I'm going

[42:51] to start this business I'm going to grow

[42:53] my family and we just keep putting more

[42:56] stuff on our plates we just keep we just

[42:59] keep

[43:00] inserting and I'm going to run the half

[43:02] K and I'm going to do my three day three

[43:04] mornings a week of yoga five for all of

[43:07] you

[43:09] um and nothing gives but everything it's

[43:13] corrosive for

[43:15] everything so I think crazy wild

[43:18] ambition is you're so crazed by it that

[43:22] you have the mental Clarity the devotion

[43:25] what are you devoted to that's the

[43:27] hottest question question you have the

[43:28] Devotion to say no to everything

[43:31] else

[43:34] um there are people here you know

[43:36] wanting to be here who are in their

[43:38] hotel rooms right right now this weekend

[43:40] doing editing on their books because

[43:42] that's what it takes how do you say no

[43:44] to this I'm devoted to

[43:47] this um I mean there's been so many

[43:50] times

[43:51] with if I look at my kid I'm going to

[43:54] cry where I think you know I say I'm

[43:57] devoted to my child but I'm tweeting one

[44:01] more

[44:02] time so what are you devoted to will

[44:06] really help with the overwhelm and you

[44:09] have to say no and you have to you know

[44:12] my friend Marie foro you got to get the

[44:13] on the no

[44:14] train and the no muscle it's a it's a

[44:19] muscle that it takes time you have to

[44:21] build that muscle so um when you first

[44:25] start saying no you're going to feel

[44:27] like nobody's going to like you you're

[44:30] going to feel like you're going to

[44:31] you're Burning Bridges U it's going to

[44:33] make you unpopular the opportunity will

[44:36] never come your way again that's the

[44:38] most seductive thing to saying yes to

[44:41] things that it just makes our plates

[44:42] just tip

[44:44] over um when I start a project I create

[44:48] my no list basically which

[44:50] is some people are not going to get

[44:52] birthday

[44:54] cards uh there will be fewer part

[44:58] parties sorry to say there will be less

[45:00] yoga so I can finish my book that's a

[45:03] very real

[45:05] thing paint b me later about

[45:10] that I hope that was

[45:15] helpful

[45:20] hi okay hi hi um okay I have a lot of

[45:25] questions but I think the biggest one

[45:27] for me right now is um my goal in my

[45:31] life is to live at my absolute Highest

[45:34] Potential and I believe that that

[45:37] Highest Potential is to inspire um other

[45:40] people to live their Highest Potential

[45:42] so I'm I'm starting a project um in a

[45:45] company right now to do that but I feel

[45:49] at kind of like a standstill point where

[45:51] I feel like I'm not really pushing too

[45:54] hard because I want it to come naturally

[45:56] but then at the same time I'm really

[45:58] impatient and I want to get like this

[46:01] progression going this is really

[46:03] confusing for myself yeah you get um but

[46:08] I think what I'm just trying to ask is

[46:10] how do you like just push through these

[46:13] barriers that are coming your way like

[46:14] when it comes to funding when it comes

[46:16] to all of this um I guess maybe pressure

[46:21] that you're putting on yourself to get

[46:23] yourself going um it's it's it's

[46:27] definitely overwhelming for sure um and

[46:31] maybe it's oh man I can't figure out the

[46:34] exact question I try to try to put out

[46:37] here but um what's the what's it just up

[46:40] what's the problem right now what feels

[46:43] like what feels like a problem to you um

[46:46] I feel like I'm not moving quickly

[46:47] enough in terms of getting the business

[46:49] going and and inspiring people like I'm

[46:53] I've got the project sort of moving and

[46:55] I'm going to be working with film and

[46:57] photography and travel and working a lot

[47:00] with the surf culture but Surfers are

[47:02] really slow people so um getting that

[47:06] going is is definitely difficult and

[47:08] like getting people committed has been a

[47:10] really big problem and um Surfers are

[47:14] all over the place too so um it's just

[47:17] been really hard to figure out exactly

[47:20] what my hook is and what that Niche

[47:22] needs to be and um I've been I really

[47:24] believe in that feminine Spirit leading

[47:27] as well um but I've I've had difficulty

[47:30] bringing women in and committing I got

[47:33] it yeah okay sorry you're doing you're

[47:36] doing exactly what you need to be doing

[47:38] okay you're you're you're in the right

[47:41] place just keep doing it right like oh

[47:45] it's so good I mean isn't that good

[47:46] everything you're doing doesn't it feel

[47:47] good I mean the pressure is unpleasant

[47:51] but what else are you going to do what's

[47:53] your other option to not push like you

[47:56] want to create so now I'm going to

[47:58] totally contradict that so I'm going to

[47:59] walk to this side of the car it be

[48:00] contradictory here um you never

[48:05] arrive you're never going to get you're

[48:07] never going to get there you will NE

[48:10] that the sense of you have to really

[48:12] enjoy

[48:14] this because when you get to the next

[48:16] place you're going be like well I should

[48:18] be doing this here now I I never feel

[48:22] like I've have

[48:24] arrived I don't I always want more

[48:27] traffic I want to sell more books I want

[48:30] to be better on the mic I want to kiss

[48:32] better I want to that session could have

[48:35] been better it can all be better and now

[48:38] I just I have learned to

[48:40] coexist with what you're

[48:44] feeling and love it for for me I mean

[48:48] maybe maybe I'm neurotic and this is

[48:50] really bad advice but that is it's

[48:53] always there so I enjoy the process and

[48:57] I'm always in a hurry I'm always in a

[48:59] hurry um and I mean this is more

[49:03] personal

[49:06] but the times when I've been the least

[49:08] creative are the times when I've worked

[49:10] with people who have criticized me for

[49:12] how I move it's too fast you go too fast

[49:16] go I'm in the internet business I'm a

[49:18] horse if you're a horse you're going to

[49:22] run you will always be a horse and guess

[49:25] what 95 % of the time who you are in

[49:29] your true nature and how you naturally

[49:32] move through the world will work for you

[49:35] 5% of the time it's not going to work

[49:38] sometimes you're going to run right off

[49:39] the

[49:40] cliff but most of the time you're going

[49:42] to get where you're going and you feel

[49:44] like yourself being that so I mean it

[49:46] sounds like you're in a challenging

[49:49] startup phase cuz like

[49:53] dude right you got you're working with

[49:55] the

[49:55] dudes um and that's just that just is

[49:58] what it is if it's too challenging do

[50:01] something else right but it sounds like

[50:03] you love it

[50:05] um but you have to coexist with that

[50:07] feeling that you're never going to get

[50:08] where you want to

[50:10] go so you love each thing and I think

[50:13] and a Curative to that part of helping

[50:15] the coexisting is you have to celebrate

[50:19] everything yeah oo I got somebody

[50:23] retweeted and usually I've gotten the

[50:26] habit of like oh just got that deal next

[50:29] no

[50:30] stop nice card to somebody thank you

[50:33] note a cake it's always about cake for

[50:36] me um

[50:40] celebrate one more time for one

[50:43] more I went by

[50:46] fast you accosted me this morning you

[50:49] did it was great morning love that

[50:52] sounded kinky but um sorry about um okay

[50:57] so lots of creativity coming it's you're

[51:00] in the flow of it it's coming coming

[51:02] coming how do you decipher the projects

[51:04] they all feel good pick one pick one and

[51:06] do it finish it yep you can't do them

[51:08] all at once

[51:11] no

[51:15] next yeah you have to focus and guess

[51:18] what it is focusing is very

[51:22] painful it's like it's like putting your

[51:25] babies in that straw basket and letting

[51:27] them float Downstream just let every

[51:29] time you let a good idea go oh my God

[51:31] it's the hardest thing I find it really

[51:34] difficult but the payoff oh my God you

[51:39] get so much more muscular you generate

[51:43] so much more momentum and velocity you

[51:46] go so much deeper when you

[51:51] focus pick one it doesn't matter which

[51:54] one you pick I mean you work with I love

[51:57] I'm a big fan of coaches and Consultants

[52:00] because I think when you get expert help

[52:04] you can create Quantum

[52:06] leaps you know if you had $100 left in

[52:10] your business it might be worth it for

[52:12] you to spend 75 on an expert to get you

[52:15] to the next level this is why we're all

[52:18] in this together right so um where was I

[52:21] going with that

[52:24] expertise can you sense where I was

[52:26] going with that

[52:27] that you telling me to focus right Focus

[52:32] right

[52:32] [Laughter]

[52:35] Quantum wait

[52:38] [Laughter]

[52:41] uh Focus Hurts So

[52:44] Good

[52:46] there is that probably do one more one

[52:48] more let's do one more a burning

[52:50] question down here okay so you have this

[52:54] great idea yeah you're really excited

[52:56] about it it wakes you up in the middle

[52:59] of the night and you have to jot down

[53:00] notes that's kind you have to sketch out

[53:02] ideas you're going going going the blood

[53:05] is rushing you can't think about

[53:08] anything else it's amazing I'm getting

[53:10] hot

[53:12] yeah and then you try to bring it to

[53:15] fruition MH and it sucks MH and it

[53:19] doesn't feel good MH or you think

[53:22] somebody's already done this somebody

[53:24] must have already done this mm what is

[53:27] the point mhm now I'm

[53:33] sad okay so there's two points in there

[53:35] one is there somebody else must have

[53:37] done this forget it everybody's done it

[53:41] it's already been done I haven't said

[53:43] one original thing

[53:45] here um but it's my lens and it's my

[53:47] story and I'm the only one who can be do

[53:51] it the way I do it um

[53:57] why did it

[54:02] suck did I turn it's oneit

[54:06] the what looks good on paper doesn't

[54:09] always look good on a canvas I'm an

[54:11] artist so the idea on the paper looks

[54:14] really really good MH and then you get

[54:16] it onto the canvas and it's

[54:18] like it's not working it's not working

[54:21] you paint over it you start again you

[54:22] cover it up with collage you start again

[54:24] you there's layers and layers lers and

[54:27] layers and layers and it's

[54:29] like I think we need to leave room for

[54:33] mystery it's not a cop out of answering

[54:35] a question um but sometimes you don't

[54:38] know why things don't work

[54:41] out you know you I'm going to get really

[54:44] Airy fairy right now

[54:48] but you know your cells may have been

[54:51] adjusted in that process you may have

[54:54] cleansed something you may have heal a

[54:57] little pain that has nothing to do with

[54:59] your artwork with the canvas that is

[55:01] going to change the way you you walk you

[55:05] relate I I would not just because it

[55:08] didn't work out on canvas or ideas don't

[55:11] fly or the person we want to love us

[55:14] doesn't love us

[55:15] back do not discredit the being woken up

[55:20] or the desire or the ask it somehow it

[55:24] moved you

[55:25] ahead and

[55:29] and I'll go out on a limb and say I

[55:31] think if we don't have that kind of

[55:33] Faith we're

[55:36] if you don't believe that

[55:38] everything is

[55:40] progress then you're just going to stay

[55:46] home that's a very somber note to end

[55:54] on what should we end with

[55:58] should we end with a prayer or some

[56:02] poetry let's do a poem

[56:09] okay sometimes you have to decide to

[56:12] rise you have to push you have to turn

[56:16] up the volume full on full out Full Tilt

[56:20] you have to reprioritize your aches and

[56:23] your

[56:24] pains you have to infuse your high

[56:28] sensitivities with courage and while

[56:30] you're there just tell fear to

[56:32] right the off and you have to

[56:34] devote yourself to

[56:37] done commit to being one of those people

[56:39] who pulls it off do what you say you're

[56:42] going to do and don't let us down decide

[56:45] to rise do not rise out of fear of

[56:49] circumstances do not rise out of

[56:52] obligation if you think about obligation

[56:55] is a terrible word

[56:57] word decide to rise because you want to

[57:02] expand your being your life your

[57:07] possibilities because your possibilities

[57:09] are possibilities for all of us decide

[57:12] to

[57:13] rise because you want to explore your

[57:15] place in the universe you have a place

[57:19] you have a place in the

[57:22] universe on the other side of the

[57:25] rise there will be your angel your Dava

[57:29] your goddess of strength and she's going

[57:31] to have a goblet of endorphins for you

[57:33] and she's going to say drink

[57:35] up life wants you to win on the other

[57:39] side of the rise there's

[57:41] illumination and there is ecstasy and

[57:44] there is bliss I guarantee it so make

[57:49] the decision decide to rise because your

[57:52] soul is talking to you your soul says

[57:56] get up

[57:57] I want you I need you I am you choose

[58:03] me life wants you to win you are not

[58:08] obligated but please decide to

[58:12] rise thank you wander luses

LaPorte suggests getting underneath the goal to the *feeling* you're actually after. Ask yourself: what does success feel like to me, not to others? Nine out of ten people chase other people's definitions of success. When you clarify the feeling—not the metric—authenticity becomes clear.
Yes, according to LaPorte. The difference between mediocre and excellent is the willingness to make 11th-hour changes—to call the wedding off, to pivot the website, to stop the press. The cost is looking like a flake; the reward is integrity with your own vision.
LaPorte distinguishes between prayer as petition ('make me useful') and desire as declaration ('I want to be useful'). The energy shifts from asking for something outside yourself to recognizing and claiming what's already yours. Your desire *is* your prayer when it's an affirmation of what you want, not a plea for rescue.
Start by listening to your own language. Notice where you apologize for your desires, where you say 'maybe I'm being unreasonable.' That's where the work lives. LaPorte teaches that not giving yourself permission to desire is a tragedy of the human spirit—and the antidote is simple: decide it's okay to want it, even if others don't understand.
Because feeling is the frequency that magnetizes results. If you feel affluent, you notice more affluence. If you're unclear or conflicted about the feeling underneath your goal, you won't think clearly or take the risks needed to reach it. The feeling is what closes the distance between you and what you've asked for.
LaPorte teaches that the ego fear to 'park' is specifically the fear of looking unreliable, a flake, or untrustworthy. Confidence isn't the absence of ego—it's the willingness to look foolish for your vision. Excellence requires 'a little bit of craziness,' and that means risking the opinion of others.
When you're clear about how you show up in the world—your 'cocktail line' or personal offering—things come to you faster. Clarity acts as a magnet. Confusion or mixed signals keep you at a distance from opportunity. The clearer your vision and feeling, the shorter the gap between intention and manifestation.
