Rewiring the Brain to Stop Being a Victim of Circumstance

Mark Groves

Dr. Joe Dispenza, a New York Times best-selling author, researcher, lecturer and corporate consultant, argues that the reactions most people experience as their personality are really a library of unconscious programs stored in the brain from past experience, and that those programs can be rewritten through deliberate thinking, feeling and choosing. In this 2023 episode of The Mark Groves Podcast, the two men work through a single question: if who you are is made of how you think, act and feel, can changing those three things change your life? Along the way they cover how circumstances come to feel like masters, why rehearsal is more than mental practice, how much of daily life runs on autopilot, and Dispenza's claim that the body can begin to shift within a week, before outward life has changed.

Mark Groves opens the conversation with a confession that reads like a field note. He has been doing Dispenza's meditations almost every morning for about forty days. He describes a "giant state change" in how he starts his day, and a new awareness of something older surfacing: the pull of martyrdom and victimhood. He is 44. He says the pandemic seemed to magnify a state of victimization he didn't know was still living in him. He has the tools, he says, and he has read the books, yet he is noticing a shift he cannot fully explain. That tension, between knowing a practice and watching it work on you, is the thread that runs through the hour.

What does it mean to be a victim of circumstance?

Dispenza's starting point is not moral. It is structural. Ask someone why they are unhappy, frustrated or sad, he says, and they will name a condition, a person, a situation that is "making me feel and think this way." For most people, that answer is the whole story. If something produces a feeling you believe you cannot control, you are, in his framing, a victim of it.

He pushes the idea further. The circumstance, he argues, is actually changing your state of being. "Being victimized by a circumstance in your life literally means that that event, that circumstance, that person, that condition is actually causing you to feel emotionally and think in terms of memories equal to that circumstance," Dispenza told Groves. If you keep thinking the same way, feeling the same way and responding to the environment the same way, his logic runs, your life will stay the same, "because you're the same."

The alternative he proposes is not denial of hard conditions. It is a change in who responds to them. The goal, as he puts it, is to meet the challenges in life from a greater level of consciousness, so that the circumstance no longer dictates the outcome. If you can produce a different result through a different internal state, he says, you will begin to notice the coincidences and synchronicities in your life and recognize that you had a hand in them.

Why is your brain described as a record of the past?

This is the scientific spine of the talk, and it is worth slowing down for. Dispenza's claim is that "every person, every circumstance, every condition, every place, every object that you own is mapped neurologically in your brain." In that model, the brain is less a thinking organ than a record. "So, your brain is a record of the past," he says. "It's an artifact, a repository of everything you've learned intellectually or experienced."

From there he makes his most useful move. The emotions we feel are, in his words, the end products of experience. The memories we carry produce familiar emotions, and each significant person in our lives has what he calls a neurological network: a boss, a co-worker, an ex. When you walk into a room with one of those people, the network fires, and the feeling arrives before any conscious decision does. This is why, in his view, most people's environment ends up controlling their thinking. Their personal reality, shaped by what has already happened, dictates their personality.

The implication is that personality is not fixed. If it is built from how you think, act and feel, then changing those three things should change the personality, and therefore the life that personality generates. That is the premise Groves rests his question on, and Dispenza confirms it as the practical basis of his teaching.

Can rehearsal really rewire you?

Dispenza's answer is yes, and his language here is concrete. Rehearsal, he argues, is not a metaphor. "The act of rehearsing is changing your brain. It's installing circuitry to look like you've already experienced it." When you imagine how you will be with a difficult co-worker, or how you want to respond to a recurring situation, you are practicing a new pattern, and the brain registers it.

He describes the exercise in the first person, as a voice you might speak to yourself. Something like: "I'm so tired of feeling frustrated. I'm so tired of feeling unhappy. I'm so tired of feeling unworthy. How do I want to feel?" The move is to start producing the desired feelings on purpose, independent of anything happening outside you. "No one's making you feel that way," he says. "You're actually making yourself feel that way. You start doing that enough times, and you're going to start feeling that way. You're going to start becoming that person."

This is the point where the talk shifts from theory to daily work. Rehearsal without intention is just daydreaming. Dispenza's emphasis is on attention and repetition: closing your eyes, deciding what you want to believe, and returning to that choice until it becomes a default.

Why is so much of who we are on autopilot?

Dispenza makes a striking estimate. The unconscious programs, he says, "tends to be 95% of who we are," particularly after a certain point in adult life. That is why changing yourself is so hard. It is far easier to repeat a habit than to notice it, because the habit accounts for almost everything you do. He describes the work as an overcoming of the same self: reviewing how you are going to think, act and feel, and reviewing how you are not going to think, act and feel. That review, he says, is what meditation is for.

Groves's experience of the forty-day practice fits this picture. He describes not just calm but a kind of early warning, catching the moment when victimhood begins to rise and noticing that he no longer likes the feeling that comes with it. Having tasted a different state, he says, the old one becomes unwelcome. This is the mechanism Dispenza hopes listeners will recognize: awareness of the pattern is the first point at which the pattern can be interrupted.

What changes in the body, and how fast?

The most provocative claim in the conversation concerns timing. Dispenza says his group's data shows that within seven days, if a person thinks differently, makes different choices, does different things, creates different experiences and feels new emotions, they "are going to be a different person." He goes further, suggesting that the biology begins to reflect this before the external life does. Life changes, in this account, follow an internal change that the body registers first.

It is important to read this as his claim, presented in the episode as the result of his own research and experience, rather than as a settled finding established by the conversation itself. Groves does not stress-test the seven-day figure on air. What the episode does offer is a clear map of the causal story Dispenza believes is underneath: thought and feeling change the body's state, and the body's state shapes what a person can notice, choose and do next.

How do you put this into practice?

Taken together, the conversation offers a practical sequence that a listener can test without any special equipment. First, notice the moment a circumstance produces a feeling and ask whether the feeling is the circumstance or a memory of it. Second, name the state you would rather be in, and say so out loud or in writing. Third, rehearse the response in detail, as though you were already living it. Fourth, return to that rehearsal daily, so that it becomes familiar rather than strange. And finally, pay attention to the small coincidences that begin to follow, because Dispenza's argument is that they are evidence of participation, not luck.

Groves's closing reflection is simple: the tools are there, but the work is making them real. That honesty is what makes the episode useful. Dispenza is not asking listeners to believe that circumstances don't matter. He is asking them to notice how much of their reaction is already rehearsed, and to decide whether they want to keep rehearsing it.

Where to go from here

If this conversation lands, start with the question at its center: which of your reactions are responses to what is happening now, and which are old programs running on the same stimulus? Keep a short daily log for a week, noting one circumstance, the feeling it produced, and the feeling you rehearsed in response. Read the two books Groves mentions, Dispenza's You Are the Placebo and Becoming Supernatural, to see the framework developed in full. Then treat the seven-day claim as a hypothesis to observe in your own life rather than a promise to accept on faith. Dispenza's core idea is an invitation to practice, and practice is the only place it can be tested.

[0:00] If your personality's made of how you

[0:02] think,

[0:03] how you act, and how you feel, is it

[0:05] possible if I begin to change the way I

[0:08] think, change the way I act, and change

[0:10] the way I I feel, should my life change?

[0:15] Hello and welcome to another episode of

[0:16] the Mark Grove podcast. Today, I have

[0:18] been looking forward to this episode for

[0:20] quite some time. It's with Dr. Joe

[0:22] Dispenza, who is a New York Times

[0:24] best-selling author, researcher,

[0:26] lecturer, and corporate consultant whose

[0:28] research has led him to develop a

[0:30] practical formula to help people

[0:32] transform their lives.

[0:34] Ah, I'm so excited to have you here.

[0:36] Welcome. Oh, thank you, Mark. I'm happy

[0:37] to be with you. I feel like I already

[0:39] know you quite well, but not on a

[0:41] personal level just because your voice

[0:42] has been in my ears so much, and the

[0:45] meditations have just been incredible,

[0:47] and I read your book You Are the Placebo

[0:49] years ago and was really drawn to

[0:52] Becoming Supernatural more recently. A

[0:55] friend of mine recommended I hadn't read

[0:56] it yet, and I dove deep into the

[0:58] meditations, and

[1:00] you know, I listened to an interview

[1:01] that you did not too long ago where you

[1:03] were talking about the circumstances of

[1:06] the world and not allowing them or us to

[1:09] become a victim of them, and

[1:11] I just thought, based on what everyone

[1:13] has collectively been through, maybe you

[1:15] could explain that a little more, and

[1:17] and what is the process? Cuz I was

[1:19] really inspired by what you said in in

[1:21] choosing how we respond to it. Being

[1:24] victimized by a circumstance in your

[1:26] life literally means that that that

[1:28] event, that circumstance, that person

[1:31] that condition is actually causing you

[1:34] to feel emotionally and think in terms

[1:39] of memories equal to that circumstance,

[1:42] and that circumstance is actually

[1:44] changes your state of being. So, you're

[1:47] thinking the same way, and you're

[1:48] feeling the same way, and your response

[1:50] to the environment is the same, we can

[1:52] guarantee that your life is going to

[1:54] stay the same because you're the same.

[1:56] You ask that person, "Why are you

[1:58] unhappy? Why are you frustrated? Why are

[2:00] you sad?" They'll say the this this

[2:02] condition, this this this person is

[2:04] actually making me feel and think this

[2:07] way. Well, anything that makes us feel

[2:08] and think a certain way that we don't

[2:10] think we have any control over,

[2:12] for the most part, we're victims. So,

[2:13] we're as a species become victimized by

[2:16] the conditions in our life, and it's the

[2:18] environment then that is controlling the

[2:21] way we feel and the way we think. So,

[2:23] the idea is if you can change the way

[2:26] you think and change the way you feel,

[2:28] could you begin to produce outcomes or

[2:32] effects in your life that cause you to

[2:35] believe that you're the creator of your

[2:37] life instead of the victim of your life,

[2:39] which means then you would have to think

[2:42] greater than that circumstance, and you

[2:45] would have to feel differently in the

[2:47] presence of that circumstance. And if

[2:49] you truly could

[2:51] and begin to create an outcome, the

[2:54] synchronicity, the serendipity, the

[2:56] coincidence that happens in your life,

[2:59] you're going to pay attention to what

[3:00] you did, and you're going to realize

[3:02] that on some level you had a hand in

[3:04] that, you know, that you were a

[3:05] participant in that. Our interest is to

[3:07] teach people how to to to reverse that

[3:10] process.

[3:11] Every person, every circumstance, every

[3:14] condition, every place, every object

[3:16] that you own is mapped neurologically in

[3:18] your brain. So, your brain is a record

[3:19] of the past. It's

[3:21] it's an artifact, a repository of

[3:23] everything you've learned intellectually

[3:25] or experienced. End products of

[3:27] experience are called emotions. The

[3:29] memories that we have in our life

[3:30] produces familiar emotions, or our

[3:33] response to anybody that we know in our

[3:35] life, there's a neurological network for

[3:37] your boss, for your co-worker, for your

[3:39] ex.

[3:40] And for most people, their their their

[3:43] interaction in the environment is

[3:45] causing their environment to control

[3:47] their thinking, or their personal

[3:49] reality

[3:50] is controlling their personality. So,

[3:52] our interest is to see is so, if your

[3:54] personality's made of how you think,

[3:57] how you act, and how you feel,

[3:59] is it possible if I begin to change the

[4:02] way I think, change the way I act, and

[4:04] change the way I I feel, should my life

[4:07] change? Because I'm changing, and so the

[4:09] interest for us then is to be able to

[4:11] meet the challenges and conditions in

[4:13] our life from a greater level of

[4:15] consciousness and and not be victimized

[4:18] by those circumstances, but to take time

[4:21] and and to review how you're going to

[4:23] think, how you're going to act, and how

[4:24] you're going to feel. That's meditation,

[4:27] and review how you're not going to

[4:29] think, you know, how you're not going to

[4:31] act, and how you're not going to feel.

[4:33] It just turns out that tends to be 95%

[4:35] of who we are those unconscious

[4:37] programs. So, it's so much easier to

[4:39] forget than to remember because it's the

[4:42] majority of who we are, you know, after

[4:44] a certain point in our life. So,

[4:45] changing that process, the overcoming

[4:48] process of that same self, somehow

[4:52] begins to produce effects in people's

[4:54] lives, and that's that's kind of the

[4:55] exciting part about being a creator of

[4:58] your life. Yeah, my experience from

[5:00] doing your meditations, I mean, I've

[5:01] done them almost every morning for the

[5:03] last

[5:04] 40 days, and I've noticed a giant state

[5:08] change in in how I'm starting my day,

[5:11] and also the awareness of when martyrdom

[5:15] or victimhood or like that kind of stuff

[5:17] is coming up, and I don't like the

[5:18] feelings that come with it now that I've

[5:20] had this taste, I guess, of now I'm

[5:23] living in this more state of bliss, and

[5:25] I'm curious what your work and your

[5:26] research has shown in your experience.

[5:29] I'm 44, and you know, I didn't know that

[5:31] there was this like the pandemic kind of

[5:34] magnified a state of victimization or

[5:37] martyrdom within me that I didn't

[5:39] realize was still there. Like I have

[5:41] these tools, I have a

[5:43] but being as as inspired and also as

[5:46] intentional as I've been through your

[5:48] work and through reading your book,

[5:50] I am noticing a massive change. So, I'm

[5:52] curious what I'm exper- like I'm

[5:53] experiencing this physiologically and

[5:56] mentally, but what's actually going on

[5:58] in that change or transformation? There

[6:00] are

[6:01] many, many people in our community that

[6:03] during the pandemic didn't see the

[6:06] circumstances from a state of being a

[6:08] victim. They started new careers.

[6:10] Yeah. They learned a ton of new things.

[6:12] They practiced a bunch of new things.

[6:13] They got better at something. For them,

[6:16] it was really instrumental. And that's

[6:17] the person who who sees possibility when

[6:20] when nobody else actually sees it. If

[6:22] you're really interested in making

[6:26] certain changes in yourself and in your

[6:28] life,

[6:29] when you practice then

[6:31] thinking different ways, and and if you

[6:34] say, "What do I want to believe in?"

[6:36] Well, the process of just closing your

[6:38] eyes and with intention and attention,

[6:42] remind yourself that you want to think

[6:44] this way. You keep doing that, you'll

[6:46] you'll start thinking that way. If you

[6:47] start rehearsing in your mind how you're

[6:49] going to be with your co-worker, how

[6:51] you're going to be with your different

[6:53] circumstances or people in your life,

[6:54] and you you rehearse the act of how you

[6:57] could evolve your experience, the act of

[6:59] rehearsing is changing your brain. It's

[7:01] It's installing circuitry to look like

[7:03] you've already experienced it. When you

[7:05] say, "God, I'm so tired of feeling

[7:07] frustrated. I'm so tired of feeling

[7:09] unhappy. I'm so tired of feeling

[7:11] unworthy.

[7:12] Um how do I want to feel?" And you start

[7:16] creating those feelings

[7:18] independent of any reliance on your

[7:21] external word world. No one's making you

[7:24] feel that way. You're actually making

[7:25] yourself feel that way.

[7:26] You start doing that enough times, and

[7:28] you're going to start feeling that way.

[7:29] You're going to start you're going to

[7:31] start becoming that person. So, when

[7:32] that occurs, if a person immerses

[7:35] themselves in the process for 7 days, we

[7:38] our data shows

[7:39] that that in 7 days, if you think

[7:41] differently, if you make different

[7:43] choices, you do different things, you

[7:44] create different experiences, and you

[7:46] feel new emotions,

[7:48] you are going to be a different person.

[7:50] Your biology is going to suggest, before

[7:53] your life even changes, your biology is

[7:56] going to suggest in 7 days that your

[7:58] body's literally believing it's living

[8:00] in a whole new reality. Keep that up for

[8:02] an extended period of time, that starts

[8:05] feeling a lot better than feeling some

[8:06] of the other the emotions that people

[8:09] typically feel, and you notice the

[8:11] distinction between when you're there

[8:12] and when you're not.

[8:13] So true. The studious person goes, "This

[8:16] This is God, this is so familiar. This

[8:19] is so me, old me. I don't want to be

[8:21] that. I'm going to get back to feeling

[8:22] this feeling. I'm actually making myself

[8:24] happy." Then something weird happens cuz

[8:27] you're no longer waiting for your life

[8:29] to change to feel happy. You're actually

[8:31] creating happiness independent of what's

[8:33] going on in your life. Watch out what

[8:35] happens in your world cuz your world

[8:37] begins to change in these

[8:39] wonderful and mysterious and

[8:40] synchronistic ways because

[8:43] that's the effect of your changing

[8:44] energy, and nobody changes in their life

[8:46] until they change, right? Nothing can

[8:49] possibly change in their life until they

[8:51] change.

[8:52] And so, we teach people the model of

[8:54] change so that that exact thing happens

[8:57] just like for you. You start noticing

[8:59] feeling your you're not feeling that way

[9:01] any longer, and you don't like it, and

[9:03] you want to go back to feeling that way.

[9:05] When people are feel whole and happy for

[9:08] for no reason, they they want less, and

[9:11] they rely on less on other people to

[9:13] make them feel happy. They can actually

[9:15] feel happy on their own, and nobody's

[9:17] nobody's making them feel happy when

[9:19] they do this. They're actually making

[9:21] themselves happy. It's It's a There's a

[9:23] freedom that takes place with that.

[9:25] Staying there then is the mastery. So,

[9:28] you could have a great meditation. You

[9:30] can fire and wire those circuits in your

[9:32] brain till they become a new belief. You

[9:34] can rehearse how you're going to be in

[9:35] your life. You're going to feel those

[9:37] the feelings and those emotions, but

[9:41] when you get done with your meditation,

[9:43] you go back to the old personality, you

[9:45] still you default. The question is, how

[9:47] many times do you have to forget Mhm.

[9:50] until you stop forgetting and start

[9:52] remembering? That's the real moment of

[9:54] change. 95% of those hardwired thoughts

[9:57] or beliefs

[9:59] or perceptions, those

[10:01] unconscious habits or behaviors or those

[10:03] automatic emotional responses, that 95%

[10:07] is the identity that we have to overcome

[10:09] in order to become that new person.

[10:11] And you got to start really getting

[10:13] conscious of those unconscious thoughts,

[10:15] so conscious of them that you don't go

[10:17] unconscious.

[10:18] Become so aware of how you speak, so

[10:21] conscious of how you're acting that you

[10:23] catch yourself in the act of default and

[10:26] you

[10:26] begin to change that, you know.

[10:28] And and you got to look, "Oh God, how do

[10:30] What do I feel every day?

[10:32] What is it What do If I look at how I

[10:35] feel every day,

[10:36] do I really want to feel this way?" And

[10:38] the more conscious you become of those

[10:40] feelings,

[10:41] the less unconscious you'll go in your

[10:43] waking day, and that's the unlearning

[10:45] process. And that's where people usually

[10:47] give up because they think they're doing

[10:49] their meditations wrong, and they're

[10:52] actually doing it right. They're They're

[10:53] coming up against the automatic self

[10:55] that really the program self, the

[10:57] unconscious self that that they

[10:59] literally have to change. And so if they

[11:01] if they stick around long enough to

[11:04] decide that they no longer want to think

[11:06] that way or act that way or feel that

[11:08] way,

[11:09] the discomfort that's created from that

[11:11] process is a biological change that

[11:13] takes place in the body.

[11:15] The body's starving from its normal

[11:17] chemistry. It's not firing and wiring

[11:19] the same circuits. You're not signaling

[11:21] the same genes. The body's leaving known

[11:23] and familiar territory. And this is

[11:26] where most people say, "I can't

[11:27] meditate. It doesn't feel right." But

[11:29] then and we know that if you actually

[11:31] sit in that and you ask yourself, "Is

[11:34] there something on the other side of

[11:35] that?" That's when the brain changes the

[11:37] most.

[11:38] That's when the body changes the most.

[11:40] And

[11:41] and we now know that when you

[11:44] do this enough times, in 7 days there's

[11:47] so many biological changes that take

[11:49] place

[11:50] in the person that begin to cause a lot

[11:54] of

[11:55] growth and repair in their in their

[11:56] physical bodies. I'm curious, uh why is

[11:59] it that as humans we default to this

[12:02] fear-based thinking? Like when I think

[12:04] about the practice of in the meditation

[12:06] where I, you know, bring in a a

[12:08] heightened emotion like gratitude or

[12:10] love, why is it that that has to be

[12:12] programmed versus like why can't I just

[12:15] figure out if I want to program fear or

[12:17] not? I'd like to just stay in the state

[12:19] of love, and I do recognize that through

[12:21] the practice of the meditations that has

[12:23] now occurred.

[12:25] And why

[12:26] do I after all the work go backwards? Is

[12:29] there like more healing that needs to

[12:31] occur? I'm curious about that. Yeah, I

[12:33] don't know I don't know if I would call

[12:35] it healing.

[12:37] It's so hard-wired in us as a species

[12:39] that's lived in survival for

[12:42] for so many thousands of years. And

[12:45] in survival, you know, fear is really

[12:47] adaptive.

[12:48] If you want to survive, that chemical

[12:50] rush is telling you that there's danger

[12:52] or there's a threat.

[12:54] And to run from that danger or stay off

[12:57] and face the conflict, you know, that

[12:59] was kind of the model of of survival of

[13:02] the fittest. So when we perceive the

[13:04] problems and challenges in our life and

[13:06] it evokes fear, right? Like and because

[13:09] we don't think we can control it or we

[13:11] can't predict it or it looks like things

[13:13] could get worse.

[13:14] That's what turns on that primitive

[13:16] nervous system that puts you in a state

[13:18] of alarm, in a state of arousal. And

[13:21] we're just been bred for thousands of

[13:24] years to to live in survival. And turns

[13:27] out that when we we live in those states

[13:29] for extended periods of time,

[13:32] it has biological felt effects on the

[13:34] health of the body. But

[13:36] but to the person, the arousal then

[13:38] becomes something stimulating.

[13:40] So without knowing it, they they start

[13:44] relying on the response to stimulate

[13:46] their body, to to keep it awake, to keep

[13:48] it alive. And then they can think about

[13:50] their problems in the same exact way and

[13:53] produce that arousal and keep the body

[13:55] in a state of a you know, state of

[13:57] emergency.

[13:59] Turns out it gets a little addictive

[14:00] after a while. And and then we start

[14:02] using the people and problems in our

[14:04] life to reaffirm that addiction to that

[14:06] emotion. And we're addicted to the a

[14:09] life a miserable life we don't even

[14:11] like, you know. And and that's why

[14:13] change becomes so hard because that

[14:15] becomes the known, that becomes the

[14:17] familiar. And you're always

[14:19] you know, we anticipating the next

[14:20] moment, but that's a default. It's

[14:22] hard-wired in the human being because

[14:25] survival was adaptive at one point. But

[14:27] fast forward to now and and the

[14:30] conditions and are no longer T-Rex

[14:33] chasing you. They're just a little bit

[14:34] more complex.

[14:36] And it requires a lot of uncertainty and

[14:38] a lot of unpredictability, and that's

[14:40] exactly what creates the hormones of

[14:42] stress. So

[14:44] our response to the environment has to

[14:45] change. And that's what we practice

[14:47] doing it because

[14:49] when you're no longer responding to the

[14:51] same conditions in the same emotional

[14:53] way, I think when you master your

[14:55] emotions, you master your creations. You

[14:58] Things start to change in your life. But

[15:01] it goes against thousands of years of of

[15:04] programming to feel love. You know, you

[15:06] just don't open your heart in the

[15:07] jungle. It's just not You just can't

[15:10] trust all the time, you know. You better

[15:12] get prepared for the worst thing that

[15:13] could happen in your life because it it

[15:15] happened and it could happen again, and

[15:17] you better

[15:18] get ready for that.

[15:19] And so we do this automatically because

[15:22] that's 200 years ago, 300 years ago it

[15:25] wasn't easy being human.

[15:27] So there's a there's a lot of adaptive

[15:30] mechanisms for survival. And and the

[15:32] world is changing. And we can't face

[15:35] those um

[15:37] problems that or challenges in our life

[15:39] in the same level of consciousness.

[15:41] So we discovered that that if you really

[15:43] truly start mastering those

[15:46] survival emotions that are fear or anger

[15:49] or hostility or violence

[15:51] or pain or suffering or guilt or shame,

[15:55] you start practicing mastering those

[15:58] emotions, there's significant changes in

[16:01] in people's health. And if they can

[16:03] begin to change trade those emotions for

[16:06] elevated emotions. And if they can do

[16:08] this really well, and we

[16:10] we work on people getting into that

[16:12] state where they can relax in their

[16:14] heart.

[16:14] Mhm. If they can literally work with

[16:16] their body and get beyond the arousal

[16:18] and the frustrations, and and they just

[16:20] keep sticking with it, energy naturally

[16:23] moves to the heart. When the moment that

[16:24] happens, the heart literally sends a

[16:27] very profound signal to the brain. It's

[16:29] informing the brain it's it's a great

[16:33] time to create. That state of being

[16:35] relaxed in the heart and awake in the

[16:37] brain

[16:38] is actually the formula we discovered

[16:40] when the person really can do some

[16:42] really cool things. You want to get

[16:44] really good at doing it with our eyes

[16:47] closed

[16:49] that we can start doing it with our eyes

[16:50] open.

[16:51] And that's when you begin to show the

[16:53] world there's another way of living

[16:55] instead of unconscious, you know,

[16:57] stressed out and living in a program.

[16:59] Yeah, I don't think we often consider

[17:02] the impact of staying in the old state.

[17:05] I am constantly going from one thing to

[17:08] the next, you know. I live a busy life,

[17:10] and I'm often grabbing my nutrition on

[17:12] the go. And I, like you, I'm guessing,

[17:15] want to eat lots of greens. I want to

[17:17] crush greens all day long. I don't want

[17:20] to take the time to make a salad or do a

[17:22] juicing and have to deal with all that

[17:24] mess. And so Organifi's Green Juice has

[17:27] really been the answer for me. It's

[17:28] super simple. It just takes 30 seconds

[17:30] to prep. You got no shopping, no

[17:32] chopping, no juicing, no blending. You

[17:35] just add water, you mix it up, and you

[17:37] drink it up, and you let your body soak

[17:39] in the benefits. And they've recently

[17:41] just made their flavors superpowered

[17:44] with crisp green apple, which I love,

[17:46] and also mint. So it has 11 superfoods,

[17:50] all of which are 100% organic. It has

[17:52] 600 mg of clinically proven ashwagandha,

[17:55] which is an adaptogen that helps support

[17:57] a healthy response to stress, chlorella,

[18:00] moringa, spirulina, turmeric, and more.

[18:03] All of which work together in a sweet

[18:05] symphony of incredible energy-boosting

[18:08] and detoxing benefits. If you're looking

[18:10] for an easy, delicious, and

[18:12] cost-effective way to get your greens,

[18:14] go to organifi.com/createthelove.

[18:17] That is o r g a n i f

[18:20] i.com/createthelove,

[18:23] and you save 20% off this green juice as

[18:26] well as all of Organifi's products.

[18:29] One of the things that you said, and I I

[18:31] might not get the words exactly right,

[18:32] but in your book that really struck me

[18:35] was that essentially a human can't stay

[18:37] suspended in that level of stress, in

[18:40] that level of uncertainty for a period

[18:43] of time without it having an impact on

[18:44] my health. And I I was mountain biking

[18:46] as I was listening to your book, and I

[18:49] was thinking to myself, "Man, what genes

[18:51] have I turned on with this heightened

[18:54] level of fear and and things?" And then

[18:56] what you said about evolution and

[18:58] fearing for life and all those things

[19:00] that have have come, you know, maybe

[19:01] more front and center. And I watch the

[19:03] news more. I never watched the news

[19:05] before. And all of a sudden I was like

[19:06] on Twitter learning things that were

[19:08] just I can tell now, based on what

[19:10] you're saying, that I was addicted to

[19:12] the sort of rush I was getting. Even

[19:14] though I wasn't feeling great after, I

[19:17] had also then had this awareness just

[19:18] through the way that you framed things,

[19:21] that if I turn them on,

[19:24] then I can turn them off. And if I turn

[19:26] those off, I can turn other ones on. So

[19:29] can you maybe speak to

[19:31] what is the cost that it has on the

[19:33] human system? And then like what is

[19:35] possible from

[19:37] this work? And because I feel like I'm

[19:40] feeling the effects of it, and I want

[19:42] other people to recognize too what they

[19:44] can change in their lives and their

[19:45] circumstances. When we live in that

[19:47] state of stress and we live in that

[19:49] state of survival, and we switch on that

[19:52] primitive nervous system, we're

[19:53] mobilizing enormous amounts of energy to

[19:57] prepare for that danger or threat so you

[19:59] can run, fight, or hide and it's really

[20:01] adaptive as I said when you're being

[20:03] chased by T-Rex.

[20:06] But stress is when your brain and body

[20:08] are knocked out of homeostasis. Stress

[20:10] is when your brain and body are knocked

[20:12] out of balance. There's an innate

[20:14] mechanism to return the body back into

[20:17] balance and homeostasis and that's

[20:19] called health, right?

[20:20] Mhm.

[20:21] But when the body's out of balance and

[20:22] it's mobilizing all of its resources,

[20:25] that state of imbalance then is really

[20:28] to help it to survive in those

[20:30] conditions and it needs all the energy

[20:31] that it can possibly get. So it works

[20:34] really well. Problem is is that if

[20:37] you're reacting to a co-worker

[20:40] or the traffic or the news, you're

[20:43] putting on that same system and that

[20:45] arousal becomes addictive, right? So

[20:48] and then we rely on those things to make

[20:50] us feel more of those emotions and

[20:52] become subconscious, it becomes it

[20:54] becomes conditioned.

[20:56] And you can think about the problems in

[20:58] your life and do the exact same thing.

[21:00] You can turn on that same system and

[21:03] and the long-term effects of living in

[21:05] that state of emergency

[21:08] down regulates and creates disease. It's

[21:10] a scientific fact. The body can't live

[21:12] in that state of emergency all the time.

[21:14] It burns out. And if you're thinking

[21:16] about your problems, then

[21:18] it means then that your thoughts can

[21:21] make you sick, you know, literally and

[21:23] that's that's the outcome. So, is it

[21:26] possible then if your thoughts can make

[21:27] you sick, your thoughts can make you

[21:29] well?

[21:30] And that's exactly what our research

[21:32] shows.

[21:33] You keep thinking the same way, you keep

[21:35] making the same choices, you keep doing

[21:37] the same things, you keep having the

[21:39] same experiences and reacting to the

[21:41] same conditions with the same emotions,

[21:43] for the most part your genes and your

[21:45] brain and everything is going to stay

[21:46] the same in your blood values cuz you're

[21:49] the same. So then, the process of

[21:51] thinking differently, making different

[21:53] choices, doing different things,

[21:54] creating different experiences, and

[21:56] feeling different emotions, if you do

[21:58] that for 7 days,

[22:00] you have significant changes that take

[22:02] place on a cellular level on your brain

[22:05] and in just about every part of your

[22:07] biology because you're you're you're

[22:09] making those changes.

[22:11] Our discoveries really have to do with

[22:14] showing people that their nervous system

[22:17] is

[22:18] the greatest pharmacy

[22:20] in the world that it that it makes

[22:22] chemicals that work better than any

[22:24] drug. We can say that with with such

[22:27] certainty when a person moves into into

[22:30] into these states.

[22:32] The practical part of it all the time is

[22:35] is the daily practice.

[22:37] People in our work that do this work,

[22:39] they do it really because

[22:41] they understand what they're doing and

[22:43] why they're doing it. And when you

[22:45] combine the what and the why, the how

[22:47] tends to get easier. So as they go

[22:49] through this transformation of daily cuz

[22:51] it's it sounds to me like this requires

[22:53] that level of responsibility. Like a

[22:56] level of responsibility to say

[22:58] no longer am I going to just let my

[23:00] circumstances and my health be what they

[23:02] are.

[23:03] I'm actually going to take active steps

[23:06] and change and that

[23:07] I love what you said about the nervous

[23:09] system being sort of the greatest

[23:12] pharmacy because I don't think we know

[23:14] the power of

[23:17] our bodies, the power of our health, the

[23:18] power of coherence. Yeah. Well, that's a

[23:21] great question because the people who

[23:23] are living in stress or living in

[23:24] survival, as they try to control and

[23:27] predict everything that takes place in

[23:29] their life, every person, every object,

[23:31] every circumstance has a neurological

[23:33] network in the brain and the arousal of

[23:35] the stress hormones

[23:37] shifts our attention very quickly to all

[23:39] these elements in our lives and our

[23:40] brains literally start firing out of

[23:42] order. They start firing

[23:44] like a lightning storm in the clouds

[23:46] very incoherently and networks of

[23:48] neurons start working separately from

[23:50] one another. They compartmentalize.

[23:52] When the brain is incoherent, we're

[23:54] incoherent. When the brain isn't working

[23:55] right, we're not working right. The

[23:57] heart, which is now pumping an enormous

[23:59] amount of blood against a closed system,

[24:02] the the arteries aren't

[24:04] you're not running, you're not fighting.

[24:06] So the pressure against the heart causes

[24:09] the heart to beat very incoherently.

[24:12] Mhm. And in that state, energy goes down

[24:14] in the heart. Incoherence creates a loss

[24:17] of energy both in the heart and the

[24:18] brain. So that kind of dysregulation

[24:22] that takes place in the nervous system

[24:25] begins to send very incoherent messages

[24:27] through the autonomic nervous system to

[24:29] all the cells and tissues and organs in

[24:31] the body and the brain is now

[24:33] really overfocused. You know, when

[24:35] you're under stress, you're really

[24:37] thinking a lot. You're thinking about

[24:38] the same thing over and over again. It's

[24:40] looping. And that looping actually

[24:42] within that emotional state is actually

[24:43] driving your brain to become more and

[24:45] more analytical and moving into very

[24:47] high brainwave states.

[24:50] You're narrowing your focus on something

[24:52] and that's what we do when

[24:54] the arousal of stress causes us to

[24:55] pinpoint our focus on a person, on a

[24:58] circumstance, on a problem, a thought,

[24:59] whatever it is. That that cycle then is

[25:02] continuously causing the body to move

[25:04] out of balance just because

[25:06] the brain and the heart are sending

[25:08] signals to the body that are

[25:10] that the cells don't understand. It's

[25:11] not coherent. That's autonomic

[25:14] dysregulation. We discovered that when

[25:16] you do something really cool, you

[25:18] you go from a narrow focus on something

[25:22] that's known or something that's

[25:24] material and you broaden your focus. You

[25:27] expand your focus and you focus on

[25:29] nothing. You're focusing on the

[25:31] immaterial on on instead of everything

[25:34] that you know, the unknown.

[25:36] The act of broadening your focus

[25:38] starts to cause the brain to fire

[25:41] in greater levels of coherence, in

[25:43] greater levels of of order. When your

[25:45] brain's coherent, you're more coherent.

[25:47] And so the networks that were firing

[25:50] incoherently

[25:51] out of order start to synchronize. They

[25:53] start to unify. They start to move in a

[25:56] cadence, in a rhythm and they're moving

[25:58] at the same frequency and they start

[26:00] exchanging the same information and the

[26:02] brain starts getting more whole.

[26:04] And that feels really good to the

[26:07] autonomic nervous system.

[26:09] At the same time, if the person's not

[26:11] thinking thoughts that are making them

[26:13] feel angry or frustrated or happy,

[26:16] unhappy, or they're not remembering

[26:18] experiences that make them feel bad or

[26:20] feel or guilty or feel depressed,

[26:23] and they're not thinking about anything

[26:25] else that has to do with their identity,

[26:28] energy naturally starts to move into the

[26:30] heart. When the person starts feeling

[26:32] energy in the heart, they start really

[26:33] falling in love with the moment. That

[26:36] movement of energy is moving exactly

[26:38] where it should move, where where

[26:40] polarities and opposites start to

[26:42] produce more wholeness and the person

[26:44] starts feeling more whole.

[26:46] We see this over and over again in our

[26:48] scans. That feeling of being feeling

[26:50] that feeling and getting relaxed into

[26:52] that feeling

[26:53] actually sends more energy to the brain.

[26:55] So the person becomes relaxed in their

[26:58] heart and awake in the brain and that's

[27:00] much better than stressed out,

[27:01] unconscious, and in a program. So

[27:03] it turns out you can teach people to do

[27:05] that and they can get really, really,

[27:07] really good at it. And when they get

[27:08] really, really good at it, the response

[27:11] to the environment is no longer

[27:12] weakening the organism.

[27:14] Mhm. It's not causing the organism to

[27:17] break down.

[27:18] The person then all of a sudden starts

[27:20] saying, "My my goodness, I'm I'm feeling

[27:23] this feeling

[27:25] and if I'm not reacting and responding

[27:27] in the same way, I want to continue to

[27:29] feel this feeling." And and it becomes

[27:31] something that becomes more of a habit

[27:34] or a skill. The chemistry that's

[27:36] produced as a result of that is it's

[27:39] changing gene expression. Wow. It's

[27:41] changing thousands of different

[27:43] metabolites in the body and it's making

[27:46] a pharmacy of chemicals. Now a drug

[27:48] study is about 18 to 25%

[27:51] cause and effect, causality. You know,

[27:53] the cause is produced about 25% of the

[27:56] times. The data that we've discovered

[27:59] suggests that between 75 and 85% of the

[28:03] people

[28:04] that are participating in this are

[28:05] producing those same pharmacy of

[28:07] chemicals that are working better

[28:10] than any pharmaceutical because a

[28:12] pharmaceutical only works in 25% and

[28:14] there's this rich resource of

[28:18] natural pharmaceuticals that cause the

[28:21] body to become super immune

[28:24] to all kinds of viruses and bacteria.

[28:26] And I'm talking about all kinds of

[28:28] viruses. The plasma of the of those

[28:32] people who

[28:33] who actually do this properly,

[28:35] put in the presence of a cancer cell,

[28:38] shuts the mitochondrial function in the

[28:40] cancer cell down by 70%.

[28:43] Now that's taking all the energy out of

[28:45] the cancer cell. Now it can't multiply

[28:48] and it can't move as well.

[28:49] It has effects on the immune system. It

[28:52] has effects on all kinds of thousands of

[28:55] metabolites that suggest the body is

[28:58] actually in a in a healthier

[28:59] environment. So it's an exciting time to

[29:02] see when people change the changes that

[29:04] take place in their biology. And and if

[29:06] you know that and you sit down to do the

[29:09] meditation because you know that, it

[29:11] turns out you'll get a greater outcome.

[29:13] I love that it's you're putting science

[29:16] to sort of the miraculous, which is

[29:18] really it's just so neat and and to show

[29:21] people what's possible. And I'm curious

[29:23] in your retreats, what

[29:24] what have you seen? Like what I I I know

[29:27] from reading your book that I've just

[29:28] been like

[29:30] you know, of what's possible. Speaking

[29:33] really transparently,

[29:34] in the last year to I I never thought in

[29:38] my life that I would be seeing what I'm

[29:41] seeing as a result of a person's ability

[29:44] to overcome themselves

[29:46] and to connect this to this invisible

[29:48] field of frequency or energy that that

[29:51] somehow informs the body in a very short

[29:54] amount of time. I never thought I would

[29:56] see. We had at one event we had two

[29:59] people that were blind.

[30:02] Now, this is a stretch for a lot of

[30:04] people.

[30:04] By the end of that event they were

[30:06] seeing. I mean, just the odds of one

[30:08] person

[30:10] having that experience is one in

[30:12] billions. And now you have two at the

[30:14] same event, you know, this is

[30:15] Amazing. And and it's so important

[30:17] because when they stand on the stage and

[30:19] they tell their story, it's changing

[30:21] people's consciousness. Like I would

[30:23] never think that I would see that like

[30:26] that. Two in you know, two in one event,

[30:28] one would would be a surprise.

[30:30] The people in the audience are become

[30:32] conscious of the four-minute mile. Like

[30:34] oh my god, somebody did that that

[30:36] actually broke through. It's a

[30:37] possibility now and they believe in

[30:40] possibility a little bit more and belief

[30:42] has a strong effect on the outcomes that

[30:45] we see. Disbelief also has the similar

[30:49] outcomes, but it's always the same,

[30:50] right? So so the person who was in a

[30:53] wheelchair with muscular dystrophy, I

[30:56] mean,

[30:57] and I know and I've I've studied health

[31:00] care for over 30 years and you just

[31:03] never see someone with muscular

[31:05] dystrophy

[31:07] ever change. And if you research it or

[31:10] Google it or whatever, you're going to

[31:11] see the very first line say there's

[31:13] there is no cure, right? And here's a

[31:15] kid

[31:17] that just had one moment and he's he's

[31:20] standing up out of his wheelchair, he's

[31:22] on his feet.

[31:24] He's moving from side to side and he's

[31:26] talking and the way he's talking is

[31:29] so contagious because you're sharing his

[31:33] his the joy of his experience. He He the

[31:35] way he's

[31:36] what he's doing.

[31:38] People with ALS um that had a lot of

[31:41] paralysis and loss of motor function

[31:44] getting up on their own again, getting

[31:46] in a wheelchairs again, and feeding

[31:48] themselves again.

[31:49] Parkinson's disease, you know, uh

[31:52] dramatic changes in in tension tremors

[31:55] and and you know, facial paralysis and

[31:59] pain and tremors, all those things are

[32:01] changing. We We've had people numerous

[32:03] people now with and this is a was a

[32:06] change in my own personal belief with

[32:08] stage four cancers where they the cancer

[32:12] metastasizes to bones.

[32:14] Yeah. To livers uh to other organs.

[32:17] Their reversal of the cancer literally

[32:21] changes their bone structure. There's no

[32:23] evidence of the you know, the eating

[32:25] away of the bone any longer. There's the

[32:27] tumor is gone in the liver, in the lung

[32:31] and

[32:32] in the abdominal organs.

[32:34] I mean, we look at this from a research

[32:36] perspective and and we're

[32:39] blown away and and and

[32:42] that's so cool because the evidence that

[32:44] we're seeing in the science where we're

[32:46] seeing the plasma of advanced meditators

[32:50] actually taking the energy out of the

[32:52] cancer cells.

[32:54] The fundamental question is where is

[32:55] that information coming from? The

[32:57] person's not changing their diet,

[32:59] they're not taking a drug, they're not

[33:03] eating anything differently. The

[33:05] information that is being transmitted on

[33:08] that blood is coming from within them.

[33:11] Now, that's exactly where it's coming

[33:13] from.

[33:14] People say, "Oh my god, do you are you

[33:16] saying that meditation can actually help

[33:19] cancer?" And or cause a resistance to a

[33:22] virus and change the Alzheimer's gene. I

[33:24] say, "No, no, actually I'm not saying

[33:26] that. The data is actually saying that."

[33:29] And that's the data if the data is

[33:30] saying that, it's a it's a change in

[33:32] consciousness.

[33:34] And I want people to see the data and

[33:36] our data is really really compelling.

[33:39] And listen to those testimonies of

[33:41] people. I watched some of those

[33:42] testimonies maybe 10 times in a row. I'm

[33:46] kidding you because I'm I just cannot

[33:48] believe what I'm seeing.

[33:50] Yeah. That's profound.

[33:52] I want to remember that. It's It's

[33:53] powerful to to see the and we've cancer

[33:56] researchers and doctors stand on the

[33:59] stage that were serious health

[34:02] conditions and their health conditions

[34:04] are gone. They They got They understood

[34:05] it. The science made sense to them. So

[34:07] the application made sense. You know,

[34:09] people in wheelchairs

[34:11] numerous people with spinal cord

[34:12] injuries or strokes walking normally.

[34:15] They just just They're out of their

[34:17] wheelchairs. Some of them are running

[34:19] now.

[34:20] They're in a completely

[34:22] new body. Then some level they're in a

[34:24] completely new life, you know, and

[34:26] they're not in the same future they that

[34:29] they were headed to. They're in this

[34:31] this whole new future and and the

[34:33] importance of a person standing on the

[34:35] stage

[34:36] to finalize this question as and do

[34:38] testimony

[34:40] and and tell their story.

[34:42] Uh there's nothing like a great story.

[34:45] And they don't look vegan, they don't

[34:48] look gluten-free, they don't look young,

[34:50] they don't look buffed, they don't

[34:53] they don't look like they're any any

[34:55] different than anybody else. And it's a

[34:58] great way

[35:00] for people to realize that this person

[35:03] is an example of truth, right? And

[35:04] that's the four-minute mile.

[35:07] And then uh people do do the best with

[35:09] what they only know is is possible. And

[35:12] if they don't know that healing is is

[35:14] possible, they'll make the same choice.

[35:15] Now all of a sudden it's in the tribe,

[35:17] you know, it's in the culture. It's the

[35:19] people are aware of this and

[35:21] and consciousness is awareness and

[35:23] and awareness is energy and frequency.

[35:25] You change your awareness, you change

[35:27] your energy.

[35:28] And that's so the collective now becomes

[35:30] aware of another possibility in an all

[35:32] week long events

[35:34] it's very common that once one person

[35:37] gets up and tells the story of

[35:39] how they healed themselves of whatever

[35:42] health condition that they had

[35:44] somehow and the once it's in the

[35:45] collective it starts happening

[35:48] a whole lot more and just like an

[35:50] infection can spread a disease

[35:52] in the community health and wellness

[35:54] starts become as an as infectious as

[35:56] disease and I've seen things this year

[35:58] that that has truly blown my mind where

[36:02] where people were making those dramatic

[36:04] changes in their health. Wow. I'm

[36:07] curious what is that like to facilitate?

[36:10] Like what is it when you look back at

[36:12] like the birth of your work to where

[36:13] things are today and and even the birth

[36:15] of your life. But to be here today and

[36:18] be part of that, I'm just like that must

[36:21] feel so profound to be part of. I think

[36:24] a lot of us get into things because we

[36:27] want to either create or we want to

[36:28] discover, right? And

[36:30] and discovering like

[36:33] like seeing some of these things as

[36:35] possible, you know, I mean, the research

[36:38] calls that we have that we're shaking

[36:39] our heads, you know. We're shaking our

[36:42] heads going like

[36:45] oh my god, that this is actually the

[36:47] truth. Like this is the truth. For me

[36:50] personally, when we look at

[36:52] those type of outcomes, it's hard to go

[36:55] back to business as usual.

[36:56] Yeah, I bet.

[36:57] And the conversations that we we have

[37:00] now with reputable scientists and and

[37:03] researchers, when they see our data then

[37:05] they say

[37:07] that's 7 days.

[37:09] 7 days.

[37:11] 7 days we're seeing these dramatic

[37:15] changes in 84% of the population in 7

[37:18] days. You don't see a drug do that,

[37:20] right? Drug study it's never 7 days.

[37:24] It's It's

[37:25] months, you know, and you're seeing and

[37:27] the efficacy is so high.

[37:29] The conversations that we're having now

[37:31] are are more about possibility because

[37:33] the data is speaking. It's the data

[37:35] that's saying it. You and you can't and

[37:37] you can't deny the data. And when our

[37:39] scientists do the studies five different

[37:41] ways, I'm so excited because I just know

[37:44] they're just they're really getting

[37:46] ready to change a belief because every

[37:48] every way they run it, it turns out the

[37:51] same. They're going, "Oh my god, this is

[37:53] actually this is actually the truth." So

[37:56] making your own pharmacy of chemicals

[37:59] and sitting down, here's the cool part,

[38:01] sitting down and assigning meaning

[38:05] to the act of doing it. Like

[38:06] understanding what you're doing

[38:08] and understanding why you're doing it,

[38:11] the how actually gets easier and you

[38:13] produce greater outcomes. So we use the

[38:15] constant reminder of the science and the

[38:18] and the information. So the what and the

[38:20] why makes the how more more

[38:22] instrumental. The person's going to get

[38:24] greater results out of it and that's

[38:25] what our data uh actually suggests. I

[38:28] can say now with so much more certainty

[38:31] that that this is not pseudoscience. I

[38:34] could say that. I guess that I can't

[38:36] It's no longer oh, that's just

[38:37] pseudoscience. We can't say that any

[38:38] longer. It's science and our scientists

[38:40] really that are

[38:42] that are doing the researcher, they're

[38:45] the ones that are they're changing their

[38:46] belief. And and when they when they

[38:48] start a lecture and they call it

[38:50] evolution of the species,

[38:52] that's a big huge, you know, a huge sign

[38:55] that they're that something great is

[38:56] happening. You know, when you see a

[38:58] scientist in the last line of his

[39:01] presentation with all these volcano maps

[39:03] and all these uh statistics say um you

[39:07] are what you think, you know, you know,

[39:08] that's the last line. You're you're

[39:10] you're you're in shock. So science is

[39:12] changing now because we're changing the

[39:14] science, which is super cool. When I

[39:16] think I used to be a pharmaceutical rep

[39:18] for almost 14 years. And when I started

[39:22] to learn about relationships and emotion

[39:24] and the effect on the body and

[39:25] inflammation,

[39:26] I was just like that's not the way. Like

[39:29] I couldn't stay in that work anymore.

[39:31] And the more I'm exposed to your work

[39:34] and experience it,

[39:36] I feel that. Like I feel that difference

[39:38] and you know, when you talk about these

[39:40] transformations that I mean, I know lots

[39:42] of people who've been to your retreats

[39:45] and

[39:46] one friend said that she found

[39:48] psilocybin without taking psilocybin and

[39:51] I thought that's

[39:52] pretty profound. I just I like the way

[39:55] you articulate just that the new self

[39:57] doesn't have is am I saying that right?

[39:59] Like the new self doesn't have the thing

[40:02] that they might be suffering with or or

[40:03] the

[40:05] like it's a pattern of all the other

[40:06] parts, right? Sure. So, let me just say

[40:08] this before we move to that. We just had

[40:10] a great conversation with our

[40:12] neuroscience team at UCSD and they were

[40:15] looking at 20 fMRI studies that we did

[40:18] 10 on advanced meditators, 10 on novice

[40:21] meditators.

[40:22] The scientist said, "I want you to know

[40:24] that in that transcendental experience

[40:27] that the person's having, their brain is

[40:29] looking like it's on psilocybin." That's

[40:32] exactly what they said. So, it is

[40:33] accurate. It was an accurate experience.

[40:36] Because the brain actually that's

[40:38] through certain latent systems when it

[40:40] switches on actually makes derivatives

[40:43] of melatonin that work exactly like

[40:46] those pharmaceuticals. That's why those

[40:48] receptors are there and that creates the

[40:50] transcendental moment, you know, that's

[40:52] what creates this super lucid moment.

[40:55] Yeah, that's it. And so, when they are

[40:58] making these changes, when they're going

[40:59] from like in your 7-day retreat, they're

[41:02] experiencing

[41:04] the meditations, the change of way of

[41:05] being and they're also with people. So,

[41:07] it almost seems like there's this

[41:09] tension of in in a beautiful tension in

[41:12] the way that

[41:13] am I using the right words? It's almost

[41:15] like I'm I'm experiencing sovereignty

[41:17] but also unity at the same time. Like

[41:20] Yeah, yeah. So, there's a transformation

[41:22] that takes place in the week longs

[41:23] that's really evident. It's a person

[41:26] overcoming themselves. And and when you

[41:28] sit past that point where you normally

[41:31] quit, that's when the brain really

[41:33] begins to change the most. That's when

[41:35] you're stepping out of the known into

[41:37] the unknown and that's what that's what

[41:39] creates plasticity in the brain. There's

[41:41] there's there's going to be a

[41:42] fundamental change that takes place.

[41:45] In our week long events, we we stretch

[41:47] people a little bit further where they

[41:50] like to go. What's on the other side of

[41:52] the thought I can't?

[41:54] What's on the other side of the thought

[41:55] I'm too old? What's on the other side of

[41:57] the thought it's my mother's fault, my

[41:59] father's fault? What if we just keep

[42:01] going past those thoughts, keep going

[42:03] past those emotions and and behaviors?

[42:07] In the 7-day process that we do, the

[42:10] first couple days is that overcoming

[42:12] process and disentangling from those

[42:14] programs. It takes an enormous amount of

[42:16] energy and it takes an enormous amount

[42:18] of awareness and if you give people

[42:20] things to do while they're going through

[42:22] that change from the old self to the new

[42:25] self

[42:26] and you give them some things to

[42:28] practice, it accelerates the process.

[42:31] After a certain point in the collective

[42:33] in the community,

[42:34] the individual becomes a representation

[42:37] of the whole.

[42:38] So, you start seeing people

[42:41] all of a sudden heal from feeling a

[42:43] certain way and now they're feeling

[42:45] another way. When they start feeling

[42:46] another way than the way they feel in in

[42:50] the same familiar way, their body is so

[42:53] objective

[42:55] that it does not know the difference

[42:56] between the experience in their life

[42:59] that could be creating that emotion and

[43:01] the emotion that person is just feeling

[43:03] just by changing themselves.

[43:05] The body's actually believing

[43:07] genetically that it's living in a

[43:08] different world and and genes regulate

[43:11] because the environment signals the gene

[43:13] and the end product of an experience in

[43:15] the environment is an emotion. We're

[43:17] actually signaling genes ahead of their

[43:19] environment and that's what's actually

[43:21] beginning to make their biological

[43:23] changes.

[43:24] Without a doubt, when that occurs,

[43:26] there's all kinds of great changes that

[43:27] take place in the person's immune system

[43:30] and just about every other endocrine

[43:32] system in their body.

[43:33] If the person now is behaving

[43:37] in a different way, there's behavior

[43:39] dependent genes

[43:41] that make very significant changes to

[43:43] the person's biology.

[43:45] If the person has gotten past I can't,

[43:48] it's too hard, it's my mother's fault,

[43:50] I'll never change, what's wrong with me

[43:52] and they just no longer were firing and

[43:55] wiring those thoughts and they began to

[43:58] fire and wire new thoughts and when it's

[44:00] the hardest it matters the most if they

[44:02] stuck around long enough to go through

[44:04] that transformative process, energy

[44:06] naturally moves into the heart. We've

[44:07] measured this enormous amount of times

[44:10] and people start falling in love with

[44:11] life again. They start seeing beauty in

[44:13] all things.

[44:15] The heart informs the brain in a very

[44:16] short amount of time. The brain goes

[44:18] into an elevated gamma brain wave state.

[44:21] Now, the person's literally relaxed in

[44:23] their heart. They're awake. They're

[44:25] actually conscious instead of

[44:26] unconscious and in a program

[44:29] and they're more relaxed into the

[44:30] present moment. The biological changes

[44:33] that take place as result of that over

[44:35] time become more and more permanent for

[44:37] the person. So,

[44:39] the person who's no longer thinking the

[44:41] same way, acting the same way and

[44:42] feeling the same way, the disease exists

[44:44] in the other person that was thinking

[44:46] that way, acting that way and feeling

[44:48] that way because their biology is

[44:50] actually the same. They just became

[44:52] somebody else and it's the overcoming

[44:54] process in that 7-day retreat that

[44:58] actually creates the becoming process

[45:00] and and there's just so many wonderful

[45:03] biological changes that take place in

[45:05] the brain, the heart, the genes, the

[45:08] blood, in the microbiome and in just

[45:11] about every system in the body. I mean,

[45:13] it makes so much sense if you change

[45:15] your state. What I think is really

[45:17] fascinating is the correlation to like

[45:20] you're already experiencing a future

[45:22] that doesn't yet exist but exists maybe

[45:25] in another

[45:26] time or dimension or whatever, you know,

[45:28] and I'm I'm curious your thoughts

[45:30] because I know a lot of people who are

[45:32] exploring this work too talk about

[45:34] feeling more connected. Like my friends

[45:36] when they came back from the retreat

[45:38] were saying like they just felt more

[45:39] connected to their intuition and you

[45:42] know, some using the words like the

[45:43] divine and I think that's such a

[45:45] fascinating exploration. Like all of it

[45:47] challenges way we think conventional

[45:49] science works, the way we think

[45:52] What do you think about that correlation

[45:53] to divine, to intuition, that kind of

[45:56] stuff? I think that we are innately

[45:59] intuitive. I think that when energy

[46:02] moves into the heart and we know how to

[46:05] help people do that, the brain thinks

[46:07] but the heart knows. Mhm. When the heart

[46:09] starts informing the brain of

[46:12] information, it it comes across

[46:15] as more like a knowingness. And it's we

[46:18] discover that when you can practice and

[46:19] we do this synchronizing your heart to

[46:21] the brain

[46:22] and we practice this over and over

[46:24] again,

[46:25] if the heart and the brain are in the

[46:27] same energy, the same frequency, they

[46:29] can exchange information. Now, the

[46:31] information that the person is getting

[46:33] is

[46:34] is precognitive and it's very relevant

[46:37] to them.

[46:38] It's not coming from a social media

[46:40] feed, it's not coming from the news,

[46:41] it's not coming from

[46:43] a device, it's actually coming from

[46:45] within them and I don't know about you

[46:47] but there's a whole lot of information

[46:49] I'm starting to question in reality and

[46:52] I think it's so important to practice

[46:54] this process because

[46:56] the intuition is actually the heart

[46:58] saying, "Here's a little help." And and

[47:01] we see what happens when people do this

[47:03] really well. Their heart speaks to them

[47:05] and I don't know how else to say that

[47:06] but they know. They know exactly what

[47:09] they need to do and it's it's very

[47:11] relevant to them and they would never

[47:13] tell you what to do. They just got the

[47:15] information of what they know they need

[47:17] to do, you know, and

[47:19] and then it gets cool because when

[47:21] energy makes it to the heart, our

[47:23] prosocial networks switch on in our

[47:25] brain

[47:27] and we tend to move closer to one

[47:29] another, we tend to bond a little bit

[47:31] more

[47:32] and we have a greater appreciation for

[47:34] whatever is in front of us. That's what

[47:35] it that's what it creates. We're more

[47:37] present in the moment. And I think

[47:39] that's what creates community.

[47:41] And that community is more prone to be

[47:44] kind to one another, to be more caring

[47:46] for one another, to inform one another

[47:49] in the right way, to support one

[47:51] another, to honor one another, to heal

[47:54] one another and in really to shine for

[47:57] for one another so so the community can

[47:59] see what's possible and they can shine

[48:01] more. So, that that kind of community of

[48:04] collective networks that come together,

[48:06] we measure

[48:08] the outcome of the collective networks

[48:10] in the state of brain and heart

[48:11] coherence and we do healings on other

[48:14] people and when we do those healings on

[48:16] other people,

[48:18] we have random event generators in the

[48:20] room to see

[48:22] if the collective network can cause a

[48:25] computer generated programmed machine

[48:29] that behaves like you're you're tossing

[48:31] a coin to all of a sudden act very very

[48:35] differently. Somehow, there's a

[48:37] collective network that's beginning to

[48:40] produce a change in three-dimensional

[48:42] reality and in and that's we're finding

[48:45] out it's it's not the number

[48:47] people.

[48:48] It's not the amount of energy cuz you

[48:50] could have a lot of energy and a lot of

[48:52] people that could be entropic.

[48:54] It's the most coherent collective group

[48:57] and

[48:58] that's what begins to change

[49:00] consciousness. So, we're we're studying

[49:02] all of these things and how they're all

[49:04] related and trying to piece models

[49:06] together to teach it better. So, if you

[49:08] get a group of like

[49:11] I think you were referring in the fMRI

[49:14] study of of like advanced meditators. If

[49:16] you get a group of advanced meditators

[49:18] together, you can impact the machine.

[49:21] Exactly. One you don't have to be

[49:23] advanced meditator. In fact,

[49:25] our data shows that if you came to a

[49:27] week long event and you just blew off

[49:29] the preliminary prerequisites to come,

[49:32] we don't we don't recommend this but if

[49:34] you show up and you go all in

[49:36] at the end of the at the end of the 7

[49:38] days, you're going to be changed.

[49:39] There's absolutely no doubt about it.

[49:41] What do you notice when people go from

[49:43] these advanced retreats? So, they've

[49:44] they're now in their new self, and then

[49:47] they go back to their old lives. You

[49:49] know, I I would imagine a lot of people

[49:51] cuz I know in witnessing and being part

[49:53] of people's transformations, that they

[49:56] want to be able to go back to their old

[49:58] lives and keep them or or like preserve

[50:00] the relationship or do whatever, and

[50:02] it's it's almost like everything has to

[50:04] change and will change. But, what do you

[50:06] notice in in your experience from I

[50:08] mean, you've worked with thousands and

[50:10] thousands of people. Yeah, well, it's

[50:12] it's there's there's so many variations

[50:14] of that. Some people show up in their

[50:16] life and they're no longer telling their

[50:17] spouse that they need to change. Okay.

[50:20] All of a sudden, they're just happy and

[50:22] they see their the spouse sees that

[50:23] they're really genuinely happy.

[50:26] And they want to be happy again with

[50:27] them, you know? So, that that's a that's

[50:30] a teaching without words, right? I mean,

[50:32] you're not you're not telling anybody to

[50:34] change or being the example to change.

[50:35] So,

[50:36] we see that happen. We see people that

[50:38] heal from really really serious health

[50:41] conditions where they reverse the health

[50:42] condition, and then they return back

[50:45] into their life and their health

[50:46] condition comes back within any 6 months

[50:49] to a year because they return back to

[50:51] the same person. They stopped changing

[50:54] their state of being.

[50:55] And the response to the environment

[50:57] emotionally was signaling the same gene

[50:59] in the same way, and and for some of

[51:01] them, their health condition came back

[51:03] in a really short amount of time because

[51:05] that's how it's had had been programmed

[51:07] and and they had all the changes that

[51:09] took place.

[51:10] Something amazing really begins to

[51:12] happen now because now

[51:14] you realize that if you created the

[51:17] condition, then you uncreated and you

[51:19] recreated again, you got to can't say

[51:20] I'm a failure any longer. You got to say

[51:22] I got to do it again. And she she did it

[51:24] again or some of them have done it again

[51:26] and reversed the condition again. Now,

[51:28] it's it's a once is an incident, twice

[51:30] is a coincidence. And And And what they

[51:33] did really well is they didn't say I'm

[51:34] going to do really great meditation. I'm

[51:37] going to be relaxed in my heart and

[51:38] awake in my brain. I'm going to get up

[51:40] feeling differently than when I started.

[51:41] I'm going to really connect and I'm

[51:43] going to get my brain and heart

[51:44] coherent, all that stuff. And then you

[51:45] spend the rest of your day reacting and

[51:48] responding to all the people in your

[51:49] life in the same way. You got 1 hour

[51:52] going against 15 hours.

[51:54] Your health condition will heal a little

[51:56] bit, um but it won't heal to the degree

[51:59] that that you want. You may sleep be

[52:01] sleeping better. You may have less pain,

[52:04] less anxiety. You may be feeling some

[52:06] subjective things, but they go for their

[52:08] scans and they go for their X-rays and

[52:10] and they go for their blood tests, and

[52:12] it's if it's still the same, they don't

[52:15] say that it didn't work. They say,

[52:18] "There's something about me that I still

[52:19] have to change in order for this health

[52:20] condition to change." They're not doing

[52:22] the meditations

[52:23] to heal. They're doing the meditations

[52:25] to change so that they can heal. So, now

[52:28] it gets really really It gets really

[52:29] practical now. Cuz then they now have to

[52:32] really do exactly what we've been

[52:33] saying. They got to say, "Okay, you

[52:34] can't think this way. You you just

[52:36] cannot act Today, you cannot act like

[52:38] that. You cannot That's the old person.

[52:41] You can't feel this way. You feel this

[52:42] way, you're signaling same genes and

[52:44] you're going to go back to the same

[52:45] person. And that can't be 16 hours

[52:47] against 1 hour. I got to change this. I

[52:50] got to stay in the state. So, then how

[52:52] am I going to think? Let me remind

[52:53] myself. How am I going to act? I'm going

[52:55] to review it. I'm going to rehearse it.

[52:56] The act of mental rehearsal installs a

[52:58] circuit in the brain to look like you

[53:00] did it. You got hardware there now. How

[53:02] do I have to feel every day today to

[53:03] keep those genes signaled on? Okay, now,

[53:06] let me just practice feeling this Keep

[53:08] bringing it up. If I have to bring it up

[53:10] 100 times in a row so I can bring it up

[53:12] on my own whenever I need to. That's how

[53:14] good I want to get at it. Then I would

[53:16] be signaling new genes in new ways, and

[53:18] genes make proteins, and proteins

[53:20] are the expression of health in my body.

[53:23] So, it's the expression of life. So, I'm

[53:25] going to stay in this state. No person,

[53:27] no condition, no circumstance in my life

[53:29] is going to remove me from it. If I can

[53:31] stay there for a period of time, now I

[53:34] have a little bit more time where I'm

[53:36] being that new person, that new

[53:38] personality,

[53:39] instead of that old one. So, then it

[53:41] gets super practical. And people do the

[53:43] I I I discovered people that really face

[53:45] chronic health conditions and reverse

[53:47] them, uh they do their meditations to

[53:50] change. They don't do their meditations

[53:51] to heal. They understand that if they

[53:53] change, they will heal.

[53:55] You know? And then there's people who do

[53:56] their meditations with chronic health

[53:58] conditions

[53:59] that do them two and three times

[54:02] a day, not because they think the more

[54:04] they do their meditations, the more they

[54:05] should heal.

[54:07] They just stop believing. And And when

[54:09] they stop believing, they will return

[54:11] back to the same feelings and the same

[54:12] thoughts.

[54:14] They go back into the meditation, change

[54:16] the way they felt and the way they

[54:17] thought, and they could believe in that

[54:18] future. They get up believing in that

[54:20] future again.

[54:21] They're doing their meditations to stay

[54:23] in that belief.

[54:24] And sooner or later, of course, the

[54:26] outcome appears in their life. So, it

[54:28] becomes super practical. And then there

[54:30] are people that have an interaction with

[54:32] energy and frequency, and they connect,

[54:35] and their brain goes into these elevated

[54:37] super aroused gamma brainwave patterns

[54:40] that are

[54:41] hundreds of standards of deviations

[54:43] outside of normal. They're connecting to

[54:46] energy, and the arousal is not fear,

[54:47] it's not pain, it's not aggression. The

[54:49] arousal is bliss.

[54:51] And the person's

[54:52] out of entire autonomic nervous system

[54:54] is now regulating to a whole lot of

[54:57] order.

[54:58] And it's a very very high state of

[55:00] energy.

[55:01] And every cell in the body is getting

[55:03] informed with a different frequency. And

[55:05] we see a biological upgrade that takes

[55:07] place in that person's body

[55:08] instantaneously. I mean,

[55:11] there's the eczema. Now, it's gone. Wow.

[55:13] There's the Parkinson's. It's gone.

[55:16] There's the

[55:18] metastatic carcinoma. It's gone. You

[55:20] know, it's There's the blindness. Now,

[55:22] the person's seeing. It's energy is

[55:24] informing matter. It's happening

[55:25] instantaneously. Those people

[55:27] tend to heal on a very permanent basis.

[55:31] It's It's a very profound experience for

[55:33] that person. They got a biological

[55:35] upgrade. And And it was their

[55:37] interaction with energy and frequency.

[55:38] And they

[55:40] a formula that we practice in getting to

[55:42] those states allows us to connect to

[55:44] that to that that invisible field. And

[55:46] And more and more people are doing it.

[55:48] And we When we get the blood of those

[55:50] people that have had that that that

[55:52] experience,

[55:53] we draw their blood based on their brain

[55:55] scan. There's information in that blood

[55:58] that wasn't there before that has such a

[56:01] dramatic effect on health and wholeness

[56:03] in the body. There's

[56:04] more coherence and and

[56:07] a better information. Yeah, I noticed

[56:08] Kylie, my partner, she was asking me I

[56:11] was saying, "Oh, man, I had like the

[56:12] most profound experience in the blessing

[56:14] of the energy centers meditation." That

[56:17] I whenever I do that one, it's like

[56:19] And she said, "What was it like?" I was

[56:21] like,

[56:22] "Well, it was kind of like having an

[56:23] orgasm."

[56:24] Like, it was it was like I was suspended

[56:26] between worlds, but I was just in a

[56:28] state of just like absolute peace.

[56:32] And you know, you were talking about how

[56:34] it becomes practical. And And I you

[56:36] know, I what I love about the scientific

[56:39] sort of background of it is that I

[56:41] really don't want to turn bad genes on.

[56:43] I want to turn good ones on. So, my

[56:45] motivation is like I actually want

[56:47] health and wholeness. And

[56:49] I want to feel like that. And if I can

[56:51] bring that feeling into my world and

[56:52] into my days and into my thoughts, cuz

[56:55] you know, it's the repetition that got

[56:57] me to the place of some negative

[56:58] thinking or whatever. I just need to

[57:00] repeat the positivity at the same level.

[57:03] And I have so much gratitude for the

[57:04] work you do. And And thank you so much

[57:06] for sharing so many of your insights

[57:08] today. And I I recommend that anyone

[57:10] listening, if you're feeling inspired to

[57:12] go check out your work. And And what are

[57:14] you working on now? I'm curious what you

[57:16] got coming up. Wow. Well, so

[57:20] let's see. I'll I'll give you a few

[57:21] things. Our research is just, you know,

[57:24] so so exciting. We're going to have an

[57:26] emphasis on cancer research in 2023.

[57:30] We've got great data already to suggest

[57:33] that it has profound effects on on all

[57:35] kinds of cancers. As I said, 84% of the

[57:38] plasma of those advanced meditators

[57:41] in in just about any type of cancer cell

[57:43] is reduced. So, so we know that we're

[57:46] we're bridging on a law. We we've done a

[57:48] ton of work

[57:50] on the microbiome now, and our data is

[57:52] really profound showing those changes in

[57:56] 7 days. We are going to be working more

[57:58] with functional MRI imagery and and

[58:01] looking closely closer at the effects of

[58:04] our coherence healings. Super exciting

[58:06] stuff. We're working with prisons. We're

[58:10] working with Navy SEALs now and and

[58:12] helping those folks. We've done studies

[58:14] with children in meditation, you know, a

[58:17] thousand young children between the age

[58:20] of 4 and 12, and the data is

[58:23] really really great. We're doing all

[58:25] kinds of different things. We're we're

[58:28] putting together a coalition of doctors

[58:31] and researchers and physicians that are

[58:32] interested in seeing what we're doing

[58:35] and being a part of you know, maybe some

[58:37] of more of the case histories and the

[58:39] research that we're we're doing. So, and

[58:41] then of course, you know, my my real

[58:43] real passion is just the the week-long

[58:46] events and the and the events follow-ups

[58:48] because

[58:49] you get 1,800 people in the room,

[58:51] everybody making that shift in the

[58:53] second day, and

[58:55] you see miracles. That's the cool part.

[58:57] And And being part of that for me is a

[58:59] great pleasure in life. So,

[59:01] So, yeah, so we're we're doing as much

[59:03] as we possibly can. Awesome. And you

[59:05] also have the program that I saw

[59:07] Inspire. Can you speak maybe more to

[59:09] that? Oh, sure. So, we do a particular

[59:11] breath called pulling the mind out of

[59:13] the body. And in in And we know based on

[59:15] our data, it's going to create

[59:17] more gamma brain waves in the brain.

[59:19] We've seen it. It's going to put more

[59:21] energy in the brain. And ultimately,

[59:23] it's going to cause your body to relax

[59:25] and at the same time for you to stay

[59:27] awake. So, we do this breath,

[59:29] and it's a very active breath. And so,

[59:31] we put together 10 songs from composers

[59:34] and artists that we work with. Some of

[59:36] them are original pieces.

[59:38] It's uh different rhythms, the way I do

[59:40] it, different instruction.

[59:43] And it's an opportunity for people to

[59:45] put together their own personal

[59:47] playlist. You know, some people may want

[59:48] to do two songs. Some people may want to

[59:50] do four or five.

[59:52] And then we we we got a uh

[59:54] an artist to design the the cover. You

[59:58] know, we did we did an original piece of

[1:00:00] art and we

[1:00:01] we time lapse the whole thing and and uh

[1:00:04] do a little little little live stream

[1:00:05] for that. So, um it's called Inspire

[1:00:08] Volume One. We have a Volume Two coming.

[1:00:10] But, it's just based on the request from

[1:00:12] people in our community that want to

[1:00:14] master the breath. And

[1:00:15] and uh when that energy reaches the

[1:00:17] brain, it is a kind of a euphoric

[1:00:19] feeling. So, it's uh

[1:00:21] it's something our our community really

[1:00:23] is into. Awesome. Yeah, thanks for

[1:00:25] sharing that. I noticed the breath is

[1:00:26] something that has taken practice for me

[1:00:28] to master and also the sort of

[1:00:31] when I do it, I can feel the opening

[1:00:33] from the perineum up to the top of the

[1:00:37] head, which is really it's powerful.

[1:00:38] Well, keep doing it. It keeps getting

[1:00:40] better. Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited

[1:00:42] to continue with the meditations. Uh and

[1:00:45] uh for people who want to find more of

[1:00:47] your work, we'll make sure that we link

[1:00:48] out your website. But, for the people

[1:00:49] listening, if you want to just share it

[1:00:51] and uh we'll we'll make sure that all

[1:00:53] the links to all the things you

[1:00:54] mentioned are in the show notes. Yeah,

[1:00:56] so my website is drjoedispenza.com.

[1:00:59] Perfect. And social platforms, all the

[1:01:01] same. And and uh we'll make sure we're

[1:01:03] linking them. Thank you so much for

[1:01:04] being here. I really appreciate you and

[1:01:06] your time. Thank you.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Dispenza argues that when a person feels emotionally and thinks in ways they believe they cannot control, the circumstance is effectively driving their state of being. He says that if you keep thinking, feeling and responding the same way, your life will stay the same, because you are the same. Changing those internal responses is the path to becoming the creator rather than the victim of your experience.
In the episode, Dispenza says every person, circumstance, place and object in your life is mapped neurologically in the brain, which makes the brain a repository of what you have learned and experienced. He calls the end products of those experiences emotions, which means familiar memories produce familiar feelings. This is why people often feel a reaction before they consciously decide on one.
Dispenza says yes, describing rehearsal as installing circuitry that makes the brain look as though it has already had the experience. He recommends imagining how you want to handle people and situations, and deliberately choosing the feelings you want rather than waiting for external events to produce them. Repetition, he says, is what turns a new feeling into a new default.
