Qi Gong for Letting Go: Day 1 of a Six-Day Breath Practice

Lee Holden's livestream on Day 1 of his free autumn Qi Gong challenge does something most fitness broadcasts never attempt: it stops before the first movement and asks the audience to take stock. Streaming live from a studio in Santa Cruz, California, with co-host Skip Kelly on hand, Holden walks viewers through a breath-centered routine built around one question, what are you ready to let go of? His answer draws on the Chinese medical idea that autumn is Metal Season, a time when nature sheds what it no longer needs. What follows is less a workout than a reset: a way to notice where you are, release accumulated tension, and make room for what comes next.

Why does a Qi Gong challenge begin with a check-in?

Before any movement, Holden asks viewers to locate themselves. He reminds them that a journey needs a starting point, and that the starting point is the present moment. Around the 8:45 mark he invites people to "take a deep breath," let their arms fall to their sides, and do a quick scan of their bodies, hearts, emotions, and thinking. He asks for a number, a rating of overall energy, and a single word for their state.

The instruction is simple, but it sets the tone for everything after it. Holden frames Qi Gong as an inner journey, "a reorientation where you get to focus inward on your own internal energy." The number and the word are not meant to be graded. They are a baseline, so that by the end of the session viewers can notice what has shifted. He tells the audience that the goal of the practice is to move toward being "happier, healthier, more vibrant, more vital, and more fulfilled," and that the only place to begin that movement is where you already are.

Viewers were invited to type their numbers into the chat, and Holden asked them to notice lingering emotions too: excitement about the challenge, stress about life, a low mood, a lift of happiness. Naming these without judging them is part of the groundwork for letting them go.

Who is Lee Holden, and how did he end up in Mantak Chia's orbit?

Skip Kelly, who joined Holden as co-host, introduced him with a backstory that frames the teacher's lineage. Kelly described his own background as a corrective exercise specialist for Olympic and professional athletes, and said that his role for the challenge was to help people get the most out of Holden's practices so that the work becomes part of daily life.

The more striking story came next. Kelly said that in the 1980s a teacher named Mantak Chia was bringing Eastern practices and philosophies to the West, and that he was criticized for it, with some people believing the material was secret or that the world was not ready for it. Kelly said Chia went ahead anyway. Holden, he told viewers, was 19 and a student at UC Berkeley when he saw a poster announcing a Chia event. With no money for the ticket, Holden contacted Chia's team and offered to work for them in exchange for admission. That exchange, Kelly said, began a long relationship that eventually took Holden to Thailand to study directly under Chia, and led to a ghostwritten book.

Kelly also cited Holden's own bestselling book, Ready, Set, Slow, and said that Holden's PBS specials had reached the homes of more than 50 million people. Those figures come from Kelly's introduction, not from independent verification, and they are worth reading as part of the framing the challenge chose for itself. What the story does explain is the emphasis on slowness and breath that runs through this routine.

What does Metal Season have to do with letting go?

The challenge's central idea comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine's seasonal framework. The challenge materials describe autumn as Metal Season, and they present it as the time to release what has built up over the year, strengthen resilience, and prepare for what follows. The logic is ecological. Holden makes the point in the livestream by pointing at the season itself: in fall, leaves let go. "Nature doesn't cling and hold on," he says. The practice asks people to take that cue.

This is why the first day centers on breath. Holden tells viewers that the routine "is going to have a lot of breath work," and he links the season to the act of exhaling. The Day 1 theme, "Connecting to Breath: We Are One with Nature," puts that relationship at the center. A breath in is an intake; a breath out is a release. Holden describes using the exhale to move energy along the body's meridians, the channels that Qi Gong and Chinese medicine treat as pathways for vital energy. The exhale is where tension is let go, and the inhale is where the body takes in what it needs.

The routine was filmed, Holden said, in a redwood forest near Santa Cruz, a place he had also used for PBS shows in 2004 and returned to last month. He wants the setting to come through the screen. The point is that nature is not just a backdrop. It is the model for the practice.

Why empty the cup before you fill it?

The most useful image in the livestream is Holden's cup. He describes a cup holding a little murky water. If you pour fresh water into it without emptying it first, you simply have a full cup of murky water. "Before we bring in new energy, we want to let go of old energy," he says. The analogy turns letting go from an abstract wish into a sequence: release first, then receive.

Holden is specific about what might need releasing. It could be physical, such as tension or tightness in the neck and shoulders. It could be energetic, such as other people's energy that has settled on you. It could be emotional or mental. The challenge treats all of these as things the body holds, and the Qi Gong sequence is designed to give them somewhere to go. The practice doesn't ask you to fix them. It asks you to notice them, breathe them out, and see what remains.

That is also why the check-in matters. You cannot empty a cup you have not looked into. The number and word you gave at the start are the first look.

What does the routine actually look like, and why move so slowly?

Kelly described the daily practices as 20 to 25 minute routines, and the livestream shows the movement vocabulary. Viewers are guided to bend the knees and lengthen the spine, to let the chin settle toward the chest, and to take the arms through a series of rising and falling motions synchronized with the breath. Holden refers to acupressure points in the hands and along the body, and at one point he names a movement he calls "pulling down the sky," which he asks the group to sense in their own internal life as they breathe. He also draws attention to the flow of energy, asking participants to notice what changes in their bodies as they move.

The pace is the most counterintuitive instruction. Holden tells viewers, "We're going to move really slow." Many people arrive at exercise with a push-harder mindset, and Holden's answer is to do the opposite. Slowness gives the breath time to lead, and it lets attention stay on the body rather than the count. In a practice built around letting go, speed is a way of holding on.

Holden also says the routine can be done standing or seated, at whatever pace the body allows. That flexibility matters for a challenge that is meant to be repeatable. A practice that only works in ideal conditions is hard to return to. A practice that works from a chair, on a tired day, or during a stressful week is one you can keep.

What makes this different from a typical wellness challenge?

The structure is open about its intention. Kelly outlined the prizes, including a year of membership for the most supportive participant and a year for the person with the highest energy, with a grand prize of lifetime membership and a 30-minute online session with Holden. Those incentives are part of the challenge's design, and they are described as such. The practice itself is what Holden keeps returning to. Every routine is anchored to a single intention, and every intention is anchored to the season.

There is also a quiet argument underneath the whole session. Holden says the world needs better energy, and that people need tools to discharge stress and tightness and "activate the healing power in our own bodies." He frames Qi Gong as one of those tools, not a cure. The claim is modest: that a daily practice of breath, slow movement, and attention can help people notice what they carry and release some of it.

Where to go from here

The livestream was the opening of a six-day agenda, with Day 2 on the exhale and later days on refining what stays and what goes. The challenge ran from Sunday, October 4 through Friday, October 9, 2026, with lessons delivered inside a learning platform. You can read more about the program and its registration at holdenqigong.com/qi-challenge-2026. If you did not join live, the Day 1 routine still works as a standalone practice: do the check-in, empty the cup with a few slow exhales, and move with the breath at whatever pace your body allows. Then notice the number again at the end. That comparison is the lesson.

[3:23] of our team who will be uh co-hosting

[3:26] this chi challenge today with Lee. And

[3:28] that new member is uh a gentleman named

[3:32] Skip Kelly. So, joining Lee Holden to

[3:34] co-host today uh and the first couple

[3:37] days of our chi challenge is, as I said,

[3:39] my new friend Skip. And Skip comes from

[3:41] a background as a corrective exercise

[3:44] specialist for Olympic and professional

[3:46] athletes. And then after that, he hosted

[3:49] live healing movement uh events around

[3:51] the world. And now he's here with one

[3:53] goal, and that goal is to help each of

[3:56] you get the most out of Olden Chiang's

[3:58] practices. So, this challenge actually

[4:00] becomes part of your daily life. Uh so

[4:03] that's what we're working towards. So

[4:05] everyone uh without further ado uh

[4:08] please join me in welcoming Skip Kelly.

[4:13] Hello. Hello. Welcome everybody. I'd

[4:16] like to see some hands. Can everyone

[4:17] hear me? Just checking in. Just waving

[4:20] all from around the world. So good to

[4:22] see you all here. Welcome in. Welcome

[4:24] in. I'm going to be bringing up the

[4:25] master of ceremonies very soon here and

[4:28] wanted to cover a couple things before

[4:30] he comes up. So, number one, this is day

[4:32] one of our six-day challenge. So,

[4:34] today's Sunday. We're going to go all

[4:36] the way through to next Friday with

[4:38] these 20 to 25 minute routines that are

[4:40] going to make you feel so, so good. And

[4:43] I'll let Lee explain that in a few

[4:45] minutes here. There's going to be

[4:46] prizes. So, for those of you that are

[4:48] here throughout, there's going to be

[4:49] most supportive, which is actually going

[4:51] to get a year of our membership. There's

[4:54] going to be bestqi, which means energy.

[4:56] So, highest energy person is also going

[4:58] to get a year of our membership. And

[5:00] then there's going to be the grand

[5:01] prize. Now, this person is going to be

[5:04] extra special with so much goodqi that

[5:07] they're going to get a lifetime

[5:08] membership with us and a private 30

[5:11] minute one- on-one session online with

[5:14] Lee Holden himself. So, before I bring

[5:17] Lee up, I want to give you a little

[5:18] backstory into why he's so incredible

[5:20] and why we are all so grateful to have

[5:23] him here. Way back, there was this

[5:25] legendary person named Monta Chia. Maybe

[5:28] some of you have heard of him, maybe

[5:30] some of you haven't. And back in the

[5:32] 1980s, he was bringing these Eastern

[5:34] practices and philosophies that Lee

[5:37] brings to the world now from the Eastern

[5:39] world to the Western world. And he was

[5:41] actually shunned for it. A lot of people

[5:42] didn't think he should do that or they

[5:44] think that he was bringing secrets that

[5:46] shouldn't be shared or the world wasn't

[5:48] ready for, but he said no. Actually, a

[5:50] lot similar to Bruce Lee. Lee mentioned

[5:52] to me, interesting that Bruce Lee and

[5:54] Lee Holden is here with us today. So he

[5:57] was bringing these practices over and it

[5:59] was very rebellious of him but he's

[6:01] changed the world and changed so many of

[6:03] our lives by bringing these things over.

[6:05] And so when Lee Holden was just 19 years

[6:07] old at UC Berkeley he saw this poster on

[6:10] the wall. Montchia was coming and he was

[6:13] going to be here tomorrow for an event

[6:14] but he had no money to pay for the

[6:16] event. So he got in touch with Monttok's

[6:18] team and said I will work for you so I

[6:20] can go to this event. And that began a

[6:23] long relationship where Lee would

[6:25] eventually go to Thailand to study

[6:27] directly under Montalk and end up

[6:29] ghostwriting a book with him. And now

[6:32] Lee even has his own bestselling book,

[6:34] Ready, Set, Slow, right here behind me.

[6:36] And so we are so gifted to have Lee

[6:39] Holden who studied with one of the

[6:40] greatest ever and since then has

[6:42] actually traveled the whole world

[6:44] teaching and studying under great

[6:46] masters like in his show on Gaia

[6:47] Superhum teaching PBS specials that were

[6:50] in the homes of more than 50 million

[6:52] people. So without any further ado, I

[6:55] want to bring on the legendary Lee

[6:57] Holden to guide us in day one of the

[6:59] 6day challenge. Lee, come on up.

[7:03] So so grateful to have Lee here in

[7:05] studio with us live. So Lee, can you

[7:08] walk us through what we should be

[7:10] preparing for as we get into today's chi

[7:12] challenge and the movement practice?

[7:14] >> Absolutely. Thanks for that, Skip. Oh my

[7:16] god, it's so great to be here, you guys.

[7:18] So good to see everybody. Uh we are here

[7:20] in the um Santa Cruz Chiang studio. Can

[7:24] you feel the vibe in here?

[7:25] >> Oh, such a good vibe.

[7:26] >> Good good chi, huh? And that's what we

[7:28] want to do. We want to bring this good

[7:29] energy to you guys because when I look

[7:32] out in the world, I think the world

[7:34] needs better energy. The world needs

[7:35] some good energy. Needs to know those

[7:38] tools and resources on how to like

[7:40] discharge, let go of stress, tension,

[7:43] tightness, and and really activate the

[7:45] healing power in our own bodies. And so

[7:48] today, what I want to do, I want to

[7:50] start off with a little check-in because

[7:51] you're about to do a routine. And I'm

[7:53] very proud of these routines because we

[7:55] went back to the original places where I

[7:58] filmed PBS shows in 2004. We went to

[8:01] this beautiful redwood forest in Nine

[8:03] Marks here in Santa Cruz, California.

[8:06] And we went back there um last month and

[8:08] filmed these for you because it's it's

[8:10] one of my favorite places. Speaking of

[8:12] good energy, it just it'll come through

[8:13] the screen and you're just going to be

[8:14] like, "Wow, this canyon is so

[8:17] beautiful." And when you bring nature

[8:19] into your own life, you're going to just

[8:21] feel better. So, why don't we do a

[8:23] check-in? Let's just check in. I want

[8:25] you to just notice how you're feeling.

[8:29] It's like um you know, sometimes we look

[8:31] on a map and we say like here's where I

[8:33] am and here's where I want to go. And

[8:35] so, right now, before we do the movement

[8:38] practice, I want you to get a a sense of

[8:41] where am I now? So, how are you feeling

[8:45] in your bodies? How are you feeling in

[8:48] your heart? How you feeling emotionally?

[8:50] how you're feeling mentally. Just why

[8:52] don't you just take a deep breath? Just

[8:53] relax your arms down to your side and

[8:55] just do a check on check-in.

[8:58] Here's where I am. Here's where I'm

[9:00] starting from. The moment is always

[9:03] where we're starting from. And Chiang is

[9:05] a journey that's going to take you to

[9:07] new destinations. And those new

[9:09] destinations in Chiang, happier,

[9:12] healthier, more vibrant, more vital, and

[9:16] more fulfilled. That's the goal of the

[9:18] practice.

[9:20] Good. And why don't you just give

[9:22] yourself a number? Like if you had an

[9:24] overall number of your energy right now,

[9:27] what would it be?

[9:30] And if you just gave a word of your

[9:34] state, what kind of state would you be

[9:37] in?

[9:40] Good. So maybe in the chat, why don't

[9:42] you guys put your number and maybe

[9:44] notice any um notice any emotions that

[9:47] might be lingering. Are you feeling

[9:49] excited about the challenge? Are you

[9:51] feeling a little stressed out about

[9:52] life? Are you feeling a little down? Are

[9:54] you feeling a little happy? Whatever

[9:57] you're feeling, you could also put that

[10:00] into the chat and we'll notice that as

[10:02] you do your chiong practice, it is an

[10:04] inner journey. It is a reorientation

[10:07] where you get to focus inward on your

[10:10] own internal energy. And that is a

[10:13] magical practice. And then today's

[10:16] challenge and through the six days is

[10:18] the art of letting go.

[10:20] >> Yes.

[10:20] >> What should we be thinking about as we

[10:22] go through this movement practice?

[10:24] >> Yeah, this is such a great question

[10:27] because each practice can have an

[10:29] intention and you're bringing

[10:31] [clears throat] behind that intention a

[10:33] lot of energy and power. [clears throat]

[10:36] Excuse me. So the art of letting go, it

[10:41] happens to coincide with the season of

[10:43] fall.

[10:44] Fall in nature, things are letting go.

[10:48] You look at the leaves, they're like,

[10:49] "Ah." Nature doesn't cling and hold on.

[10:53] In fall, we focus on breath. And so,

[10:55] this routine is going to have a lot of

[10:57] breath work. It's going to talk about in

[11:00] order to bring forth your best energy or

[11:03] to acquire new chi, you got to let go of

[11:06] something, right? And we'll talk about

[11:09] the emptying of the cup. So if you have

[11:11] a cup that's just got a little murky

[11:13] water in it and then you poured new

[11:16] water into it, you got a cup full of

[11:18] murky water. So first before we bring in

[11:22] new energy, we want to let go of old

[11:24] energy. And this letting go, and I think

[11:27] we can all think of some things that we

[11:28] want to let go of. It could just be

[11:31] tension or tightness in the neck and

[11:33] shoulders. It could be other people's

[11:35] energy that maybe you've taken on. It

[11:38] can be mental stress. And we're just

[11:40] going to have the intention of letting

[11:42] go. Not just to let go for letting go's

[11:45] sake, but to make space for you to be

[11:48] able to fill up with new energy. So the

[11:52] intention is at the end of letting go,

[11:54] what do you want to bring in? What state

[11:57] do you want to be in? How could having

[12:00] more energy and less stress really

[12:03] impact your everyday living?

[12:06] >> Absolutely beautiful. So what is the

[12:08] thing that you would like to call into

[12:10] your life as we go through this letting

[12:12] go of tension as we let go of stress as

[12:15] we let go of potentially the chaos of

[12:19] our lives through this movement practice

[12:21] and welcome in order welcome in joy

[12:24] welcome in pleasure in our bodies what

[12:26] is the thing that you would like to call

[12:27] in so just in the chat if there was a

[12:30] word or there was a statement and it

[12:31] could be anything you know it could be I

[12:34] would love for my six-year-old's temper

[12:35] tantrum to calm down for them to embrace

[12:38] me with love.

[12:39] >> It [clears throat] could be, I would

[12:40] love the skies to clear and have a

[12:42] beautiful sunny day today.

[12:44] >> What is the thing that you would love to

[12:45] call in with this new space that's

[12:47] opening for today?

[12:49] >> And so, we'll let you massage on that

[12:52] and figure out what is the thing you

[12:53] were going to call in. You have to be

[12:54] very intentional as we open up space.

[12:57] You want to make sure you're allowing

[12:58] the right things into your life because

[13:00] with space, there is more for you.

[13:04] >> I love this idea of intention. You know

[13:05] the word intention in Chinese uh that we

[13:08] use especially in chiong practice is e

[13:11] which means mind, eye and heart. So your

[13:15] heart, your emotion, your the way in

[13:17] which you imagine that's the eye, the

[13:19] imagination and the attentiveness. So

[13:23] having an intention when you do these

[13:25] practices really brings a lot of power

[13:27] behind those intentions. So

[13:30] >> it's perfect.

[13:31] >> And as they're doing that, let's talk

[13:33] about a couple of the movements today.

[13:35] So, what I've noticed a lot seeing Lee

[13:37] work and hearing him speak is that these

[13:39] movements just seem somewhat random.

[13:41] They feel great, but I always wonder

[13:43] why.

[13:44] >> And so, there were a couple movements

[13:45] you were showing me earlier. Can you

[13:47] help them explain so that when they go

[13:48] into it, they understand a little bit

[13:50] more about why the magic of these

[13:52] movements exists.

[13:53] >> Yeah. And we're talking about letting

[13:54] go. So, we're going to talk specifically

[13:56] about the lungs. And one of the first

[13:58] things we're going to do is learn some

[13:59] pressure points. lungs one and two right

[14:02] here under your collar bone. So if you

[14:05] feel your collar bone and just come

[14:06] across, do you feel where it dips into

[14:08] your shoulder? And then you come down

[14:11] and then just massage those points. Now

[14:14] these points are great for the immune

[14:16] system. They're also great for energy.

[14:20] They they're said to transform sadness

[14:22] and depression or heavy energy into

[14:26] inspiration and lightness and abundance.

[14:28] And so these points are really good for

[14:30] both the physical body but also for our

[14:32] emotions. And when these points get

[14:34] tight, if you notice that these points

[14:36] are closed, the shoulders round and you

[14:39] stack tension in your neck and

[14:40] shoulders. Does anybody have tension in

[14:43] their neck and shoulders out there? No.

[14:45] Nobody does.

[14:46] >> Yep.

[14:46] >> Anybody?

[14:47] >> Anybody? So these points are really good

[14:50] for lots of things and they're called

[14:52] the alarm points. If they're sore, it's

[14:55] an alarm that you need to pay attention

[14:57] that you need to work on your energy,

[14:59] especially on your immune system. So,

[15:01] you can press them and kind of get a

[15:02] gauge of how much energy, how's my

[15:04] energy doing? So, we're going to be

[15:06] working on these points, tapping on

[15:08] them,

[15:10] opening them up, and then we're going to

[15:11] be doing some exercises that will really

[15:13] help to open those points like this

[15:16] movement soaring crane. Because when you

[15:19] go like this, that lung point, that

[15:22] first point opens all the way to the

[15:24] last point. The lung meridian has nine

[15:27] points on it and goes all the way to

[15:28] your thumb. And so you'll see that we'll

[15:30] even touch and hold the end of the

[15:32] meridian as we exhale. And even

[15:36] movements like spinal cord breathing

[15:37] where we're moving the spine, notice

[15:39] that when we do this, you're opening

[15:41] those lung points. So a lot of movements

[15:43] open these points. And so we'll start

[15:45] with learning those points and then

[15:48] getting the nervous system into balance,

[15:50] moving from sympathetic, which is fight

[15:54] or flight or stress mode, into

[15:55] parasympathetic, which is relaxation

[15:59] mode. So I always say we should each and

[16:01] every day have a little mini vacation.

[16:03] And this routine, I think you're going

[16:04] to be like, I feel like I just went on

[16:07] vacation because now your energy is

[16:09] balanced. We're nice and relaxed and

[16:12] we're resourced to have the best day.

[16:14] >> Absolutely wonderful. And with that,

[16:16] we'd love to get into the practice. So,

[16:18] find somewhere comfortable. Most of this

[16:20] practice is standing. You can do some of

[16:22] it sitting if you have to, but I'd

[16:24] recommend getting it standing. Uh we'd

[16:26] love to see all your faces on camera if

[16:28] you can. It's totally okay if you can't

[16:30] because then we get to really feel your

[16:32] chi, understand your vibe, and then we

[16:34] might be able to to help you after the

[16:36] class today and kind of talk through

[16:38] some more things. We're going to break

[16:39] down a couple more movements and we'll

[16:40] talk about what's going to be happening

[16:42] tomorrow in class which today we're

[16:45] streaming on Zoom and YouTube. So, shout

[16:48] out to all the YouTubers out there.

[16:49] Tomorrow you're going to need to be

[16:51] signed up for theqi challenge and we're

[16:53] going to be posting it in the circle

[16:55] community and it's also going to be here

[16:57] on Zoom and Vimeo. And for those of you

[17:00] that haven't seen already, we do have a

[17:02] VIP option. We've decided to make it a

[17:04] dollar which is going to give you a

[17:06] month of our membership. So, classes

[17:08] like this streamed live from this studio

[17:10] with Lee three days a week. We'll talk

[17:12] about it more, but enjoy today's

[17:14] routine.

[17:16] Thank you everybody. See you in a little

[17:17] bit.

[17:19] Thank you so much for that. I will now

[17:21] go ahead and start our routine. It'll go

[17:23] for about 21 minutes. To our video team,

[17:26] I will go ahead and screen share in just

[17:28] a moment, aka right now.

[17:52] Welcome everybody. Welcome to the chi

[17:54] challenge. I am so excited for you guys.

[18:07] [music]

[18:10] Welcome everybody. Welcome to the chi

[18:12] challenge. I am so excited for you guys

[18:16] to be cultivating your chi. What do you

[18:17] think of this location? Beautiful,

[18:20] right? Chiong started by mirroring the

[18:23] movements of nature. So, I thought,

[18:24] let's get out into nature. Let's do

[18:26] these practices out here. Let's get the

[18:28] cheese circulating. And it just reminds

[18:30] me of the study in hospital rooms. When

[18:33] they put nature pictures up, people heal

[18:36] faster. So, even if you're home and

[18:39] you're watching this beautiful scenery,

[18:41] the chi will flow. your mind, your body

[18:44] will cultivate and develop that healing

[18:46] power even faster. And that's what chi

[18:49] and chi cultivation is all about.

[18:51] Preventing problems from arising before

[18:54] they even start. So I want to challenge

[18:57] you, try to do these routines for the

[18:59] next five days and get your chi

[19:01] circulating. See how good you can feel

[19:04] with these exercises. So this particular

[19:08] challenge is about letting go. It's

[19:09] about letting go of old energy and

[19:12] bringing in new energy. Chiang, the art

[19:15] of effortless power. So, let's get

[19:18] started with some breathing. Put your

[19:20] hands on your belly.

[19:22] Breath is life force energy. Breath is

[19:25] chi. So, the better you breathe, the

[19:27] more energy we're going to cultivate.

[19:30] What is a really good breath? Well, it

[19:33] starts in the belly. That means your

[19:35] diaphragm is moving up and down. All the

[19:37] internal organs are getting massaged. So

[19:40] when you inhale, allow the belly to

[19:42] expand.

[19:44] So inhale and exhale.

[19:54] And then breathe in and out through your

[19:55] nose. Try to take a full deep breath. So

[20:00] inhale a little bit deeper, exhale a

[20:02] little bit longer.

[20:12] When you bring your breath to your

[20:14] center, you truly become centered. The

[20:18] energy out of your head drops down. Feel

[20:20] your feet on the floor. Feel the breath

[20:23] coming in and out through the nose. And

[20:26] we just have a moment of mindfulness.

[20:36] Good. Now, bend your knees and let's do

[20:39] some spinal cord breathing. So, we're

[20:41] going to inhale, open the chest, take a

[20:43] nice deep breath, and look up. Exhale,

[20:46] round the back.

[20:49] And let's get all the joints in the

[20:51] spine moving. Round the back. Tuck the

[20:53] tailbone under. Chin comes down towards

[20:56] the chest. Your knees stay bent the

[20:59] whole time. Just slight bend to the

[21:01] knees and feel all the joints in your

[21:05] spine moving and articulating.

[21:09] Exhale and round the back.

[21:12] Take a nice deep breath. Open the chest.

[21:17] And we mentioned something. We mentioned

[21:19] mindfulness.

[21:21] And this practice is mindfulness in

[21:23] motion. So feel the movement of your

[21:26] spine. If you want, close your eyes and

[21:29] sense the movement of the spine. Where

[21:31] there's movement, she circulates.

[21:43] Feel the front of your spine. Feel the

[21:46] back of your spine.

[21:49] And slow deep breathing helps to reset

[21:52] your nervous system.

[21:54] It helps to regulate the nervous system

[21:56] which transforms stress into vitality.

[22:01] Nice slow movement, nice slow breathing.

[22:07] This one is all about bringing youthful

[22:09] vitality into your spine

[22:20] and relax. Relax.

[22:24] Great. This routine is going to focus on

[22:26] breath and bringing moreqi and life

[22:29] force energy through your breathing

[22:30] right here under your collar bone. These

[22:32] are lung meridian points. So lung one

[22:35] and two, these acupressure points right

[22:37] here are excellent for strengthening the

[22:40] breath, improving immune function, and

[22:43] strengthening the whole respiratory

[22:45] system. So feel your collar bone just

[22:47] come across the collar bone right here.

[22:49] And then feel where it dips into the

[22:51] shoulder and just come down a little bit

[22:52] and massage.

[22:54] Fingers pressing and circling these

[22:57] points. Look for a tender spot. Take a

[22:59] deep breath.

[23:07] Good. And then tap on those points.

[23:10] Let's activate the energy. When you tap

[23:12] on the body, it's like doing self

[23:15] acupressure. A self-healing treatment

[23:17] wakes up the body's energy.

[23:21] Very good. Let's do the other side. Feel

[23:23] the collar bone come across where it

[23:25] dips in. Then just come a little bit

[23:27] below and massage. Feeling for any

[23:30] tender spots.

[23:32] Lots of good acupressure points right in

[23:34] this area. Take a deep breath.

[23:42] And then go ahead tap on those points.

[23:50] Very nice. Come back to spinal cord

[23:52] breathing. And now feel the breath just

[23:54] pour in. Feel those points nice and

[23:56] open. Inhale.

[23:58] Round the back. Exhale.

[24:02] And a deep breath. Inhale.

[24:07] Exhale. Breath squeezes out. Stale

[24:09] energy releases. And then new energy

[24:12] pours in.

[24:15] and exhale old energy out

[24:19] and a deep breath.

[24:22] So the movement of the body helps the

[24:25] breathing mechanism.

[24:28] Fresh energy in

[24:31] stale energy out

[24:34] and relax. And relax. Good. Knock on

[24:37] those points once again.

[24:40] Let's open them up.

[24:43] Good. Great points to strengthen the

[24:46] immune system, to keep your body strong.

[24:50] Other side.

[24:57] Wonderful. Now, bring your fingertips

[24:59] together with the thumbs and just

[25:01] lightly put the hands on those points.

[25:03] You don't have to press, just very

[25:04] lightly. Right here. And we're going to

[25:05] do a movement called rooster spreads the

[25:08] feathers. And we're going to inhale.

[25:10] We're going to come up. Elbows up

[25:11] towards the sky.

[25:13] Exhale. You come down. Sink your chest.

[25:17] And inhale coming up. Circle around.

[25:21] Exhale down.

[25:24] Nice and slow. Deep breathing.

[25:27] And just notice the theme here. We're

[25:28] synchronizing the breath with the

[25:31] movement.

[25:33] Exhale down

[25:35] and inhale up.

[25:38] Mobilizing your shoulder joints. Leaving

[25:41] and releasing tension out of the

[25:43] shoulders, upper back, and neck.

[26:00] Good. And notice the breath with this

[26:03] movement here. When we come down, stale

[26:05] energy goes out. As we come up, new

[26:08] energy pours in.

[26:26] And let's go the other direction. Circle

[26:29] forward. Come down. Elbows go back and

[26:32] around.

[26:34] Exhale down. Inhale. While we come up,

[26:40] exhale down. Mobilize the shoulder

[26:42] joints.

[26:43] Release tension right between your

[26:45] shoulder blades and help the shoulders

[26:48] become more mobile. The shoulders are

[26:51] the most flexible joint in the body. And

[26:55] movements like this, we call them oiling

[26:57] the joints. So, we're here. We're oiling

[26:59] the shoulder joints.

[27:02] Inhale, we come up.

[27:05] Exhale down.

[27:23] Good. Deep breath coming up.

[27:27] Exhale down.

[27:30] And now this part of the body is nice

[27:32] and loosened up. Nice and warmed up.

[27:35] Let's do just a little bit of a stretch.

[27:37] Let's spread the feathers. Let's just

[27:39] take the hands like this. Push down.

[27:41] Now, your lung meridian, it starts here.

[27:44] Goes down the inside of the arm all the

[27:46] way to the thumb. So, as you press down,

[27:49] push your thumb down and away from you

[27:51] just a little bit more. Tuck your chin

[27:54] back and in. And you should feel the

[27:55] engagement of this line of tension.

[27:58] Yeah, feel that. Now, deepen that

[28:01] stretch. Go ear towards the shoulder.

[28:05] And then roll the head

[28:08] little bit back and roll the head

[28:11] forward. Stretch it out.

[28:14] Now, as you stretch, breathe into it.

[28:17] And when you breathe deep, as you're

[28:19] stretching, you send a message to the

[28:21] body. Relax. Release tension, tightness.

[28:26] Clear out any emotional stress held in

[28:29] the muscles of the upper back, neck, and

[28:30] shoulders.

[28:38] Nice and slow,

[28:41] gentle movement. Don't push into the

[28:43] stretch. Do it with relaxation.

[28:50] Chin to the chest. Come down and across.

[28:55] Ear to the shoulder. Slowly roll the

[28:58] head back

[29:00] and forth across the shoulder. Nice and

[29:03] slow.

[29:04] Gentle movement.

[29:07] Push down through the thumbs.

[29:32] And this helps to clear

[29:35] lines of tension, those areas where we

[29:38] chronically hold emotional stress in the

[29:41] muscles.

[29:48] Wonderful. Chin to the chest. Relax. Go

[29:51] ahead and just shake it out. Shake out

[29:53] the hands.

[29:55] Shake out those meridians.

[30:00] Arms down to the sh sides. And just

[30:02] shake.

[30:06] Good. When you bring your hands down to

[30:08] your sides, I want you to notice that

[30:10] there's some activation in the energy.

[30:11] We opened up these points. We opened up

[30:14] the meridian line. See if you feel a

[30:16] little buzzing and tingling in the arms

[30:18] and hands.

[30:20] Feel a little buzzing and tingling. That

[30:22] is your life force energy. When it

[30:24] becomes active, it starts a healing

[30:26] effect within your whole entire system.

[30:29] Slow deep breath through the nose. Feel

[30:32] the energy in the body. Feel the

[30:34] relaxation in your mind.

[30:39] Now bring the hands up and imagine they

[30:42] fill up with white light. Bright white

[30:45] light.

[30:47] And then from here, we're just going to

[30:48] take that energy, bring them right over

[30:50] the lungs, and imagine this bright white

[30:54] light from your hands filling up your

[30:55] lungs.

[30:57] The lungs are the first place whereq

[31:00] chi, life force energy enters your body.

[31:03] Bright white light sending it from the

[31:05] hands into the lungs.

[31:08] Slow breathing through the nose.

[31:21] And now take the hands out in front of

[31:24] you and then inhale. This is called

[31:26] soaring crane. We're going to go like

[31:27] this. Inhale open. Touch first finger

[31:30] thumb. Remember that's the lung

[31:32] meridian. Exhale.

[31:36] And a deep breath. Inhale.

[31:42] Exhale. Soaring crane. We're going into

[31:45] the flowing movements now. Nice slow

[31:47] rhythmic movement. Synchronize with your

[31:50] breath.

[31:56] So here take the chi bring it in

[32:00] and then touch first finger of thumb.

[32:02] Keep the chi within. Even though the

[32:04] breath goes out,

[32:07] healing energy pours in.

[32:10] Retain that healing energy. Let it

[32:12] circulate within you. Old breath goes

[32:14] out

[32:16] and inhale the hands open.

[32:20] Exhale. Touch first finger. Thumb.

[32:24] Bring the arms. Hands just a little bit

[32:26] lower. Taking the chi into the middle

[32:28] parts of the lungs.

[32:31] Exhale.

[32:35] Inhale.

[32:51] Good. Inhale. Take that energy in.

[32:54] Exhale. Old energy releases.

[33:00] And the research is out. The better you

[33:03] breathe, the longer you live.

[33:07] Longevity is directly related to lung

[33:10] capacity and breath.

[33:14] So work the breathing here. Inhale.

[33:16] Hands a little bit lower.

[33:24] Inhale. Open.

[33:27] Exhale. Hands down to the sides. Check

[33:31] in with yourself. Notice how you're

[33:32] feeling. Feel your breath. Notice the

[33:36] quality of energy in your mind.

[33:39] Calm, clear energy in the mind. This

[33:41] buzzing, tingling energy in your body.

[33:47] Good. Now, let's just float the arms up.

[33:48] This is called flying. Arms up by the

[33:51] shoulders and then float the arms down.

[33:54] Getting very relaxed. Flows are about

[33:58] lightness and relaxation.

[34:01] Very light in the upper back, neck, and

[34:03] shoulders. Remember, Chiang was called

[34:07] the art of effortless power.

[34:10] And I think we all need more moments to

[34:13] be effortless. And when you're

[34:15] effortless, it feels like you're on

[34:17] vacation.

[34:18] No stress, no worries. Get light in your

[34:21] body. Get light in your mind.

[34:24] Like a regal bird soaring through the

[34:27] air.

[34:28] Go ahead and just close your eyes.

[34:30] Imagine that you're a big, beautiful

[34:31] bird.

[34:34] and that you have perspective and

[34:36] clarity

[34:38] and problems, worries, concerns are way

[34:41] below you.

[34:43] Slow it down just a little bit. Inhale,

[34:46] float the arms up. Exhale, float the

[34:48] arms down.

[34:55] Feel

[35:01] the air moving through your fingers and

[35:04] going across your arms. Let your mind

[35:06] drop into the present moment

[35:10] and let your body relax into the flow.

[35:29] Wonderful. Now just take your hands all

[35:32] the way up over your head.

[35:35] and exhale, float your hands down. This

[35:39] is called pulling down the sky.

[35:42] And I want you to just be open and

[35:44] receptive to take in the kind and

[35:46] quality of energy that you might need

[35:49] for the rest of your day.

[35:52] Bring it in. Bring in more healing

[35:54] energy.

[35:56] Bring in more mental clarity,

[35:58] more relaxation.

[36:01] Be open and receptive.

[36:09] Energy is all around you.

[36:13] Take it in.

[36:16] Deep breath. Inhale.

[36:19] Exhale. Float the hands down.

[36:35] Bring the hands down. Notice how your

[36:39] body feels. It's good to check in with

[36:41] ourselves.

[36:44] Feel the energy and remember you are

[36:48] energy. Sense your own internal life

[36:51] force energy circulating through the

[36:54] body.

[36:58] Good. Little review. Just float the

[37:00] hands up. Soaring crane. Inhale.

[37:05] Exhale. Can you go a little bit softer?

[37:09] Little bit slower.

[37:19] Soaring crane.

[37:22] You get the theme here. The birds. The

[37:25] birds relate to the lungs and the

[37:28] breath.

[37:29] Lightness and levity. Feel light in your

[37:32] mind and in your body. Hands down and a

[37:36] little flying.

[37:38] Go a little bit slower with a little

[37:40] more relaxation.

[37:56] and take flying right into pulling down

[37:58] the sky. Inhale

[38:01] and exhale.

[38:05] Draw in the kind of energy that you

[38:07] need. Bring in abundance. Bring in

[38:11] healing.

[38:13] Bring in vitality.

[38:24] Take that all in right over your lower

[38:28] abdomen.

[38:30] And we've come full circle. We return to

[38:32] the center. Now breathe slow and deep. A

[38:36] little slower than you can even think.

[38:38] Just slow, relaxed breathing right into

[38:41] your lower abdomen.

[38:44] Feel

[38:46] that sense of both being relaxed and

[38:49] energized. Relaxation in the mind, peace

[38:52] and tranquility in the mind,

[38:55] vitality, energy, vibrancy in your body.

[39:12] and bring your hands down to your sides.

[39:15] Relax.

[39:16] Wonderful. I hope you enjoyed that. Stay

[39:20] tuned for the next chi challenge

[39:22] workout. Letting go, releasing, and

[39:25] clearing. We're still going to be

[39:26] working with the breath and cultivating

[39:28] that life force energy. Hope you enjoy

[39:30] that. Take the flow and all that energy

[39:33] into the rest of your day.

[39:45] Hello everybody. Um, I just wanted to

[39:47] break down because we were doing this

[39:49] motion in the background with you, the

[39:50] flying motion, and I wanted Lee to

[39:53] explain a little bit more about why that

[39:55] motion feels so good. Like, what is it

[39:57] about doing that? And so many of you did

[39:59] it so beautifully. I saw these

[40:00] incredible curling and he was pointing

[40:03] out a couple regular students and how

[40:05] how beautiful the practice was. But Lee,

[40:07] break down that movement for us. What's

[40:08] happening?

[40:09] >> Yeah. Didn't they look great?

[40:10] >> They looked amazing.

[40:11] >> Just watching you guys, I I felt more

[40:12] relaxed. Ah, and whenever you go slow,

[40:15] you can see the a lot of this routine

[40:17] was about flow and getting into flow

[40:20] state because flow movements are so

[40:22] different than any other workout. You

[40:24] don't see people at the gym going, I'm

[40:26] just moving these weights with

[40:27] relaxation. And it's one of the it's the

[40:31] workout that feels the best in your

[40:33] body. And it's because of exercises like

[40:35] flying that you were talking about. When

[40:37] you're doing the flying exercise, when

[40:39] you're moving slowly with relaxation,

[40:41] your yin and yang energy is going to be

[40:43] in balance. You're moving, but you're

[40:45] moving with relaxation. And this is like

[40:48] watching a sunset. You just feel, ah,

[40:51] that's great. I'm moving. I'm actually

[40:53] getting the benefits of movement, but

[40:55] I'm also getting the benefits of

[40:57] meditation all in one exercise. Now

[40:59] flying this movement is about expanding

[41:03] your horizons and about creating more

[41:06] perspective because the mind often gets

[41:09] locked into habitual thinking. And

[41:11] [snorts] this way we get to open our

[41:13] horizons and go what's possible? What's

[41:17] possible in my mind and body? What's

[41:19] possible for this body to help

[41:21] self-regulate and create more healing?

[41:23] What's possible in my life that I can

[41:26] create? Sometimes we need to elevate

[41:28] above and get some perspective. So

[41:30] expanding the horizons, getting into the

[41:33] flow, and you might notice that there's

[41:35] a little springy quality in the legs

[41:37] when you're doing this movement, a

[41:38] little rise and fall. So it's not just

[41:40] the arms moving. If you notice, it's not

[41:42] just like this, right? It's a it's a

[41:46] flow that the whole body is

[41:48] participating in. And as we go through

[41:50] the challenge, you're going to get more

[41:51] flowy. You're gonna get more relaxed

[41:53] because your body needs to get trained

[41:56] to move with relaxation. And this is one

[41:58] of the best things you could do for

[42:00] overall health and energy and vitality.

[42:03] And Freddy mentioned in the intro that

[42:05] I'm a [clears throat] bit of a nerd. So,

[42:06] let me explain one level deeper of the

[42:09] science of why this is so incredible.

[42:11] So, there's there's two components here.

[42:13] Number one, I don't know if you any of

[42:14] you have ever tried it, but when you're

[42:16] stressed or you're anxious or you're

[42:19] very high energy, what we would call a

[42:20] beta brain wave, you're, you know, just

[42:23] really in a productive mode, if you do

[42:25] anything at half the normal speed, your

[42:29] body can only regulate in that moment.

[42:32] It's actually the ultimate physical

[42:34] hack, if you will, to bring your body

[42:37] into a calmer state. So, you're going to

[42:39] the bathroom. I don't know how many of

[42:40] you ever tried this, but try to go to

[42:41] the bathroom at half speed. You walk to

[42:44] the bathroom, you go to wash your hands,

[42:47] you do it all at like a half speed. As a

[42:49] matter of fact, I used to play this game

[42:50] with kids

[42:51] >> where we would just call out like,

[42:52] "What's the speed we're going to do the

[42:53] next thing at?" And they think it's a

[42:55] game, but really I'm tricking them to

[42:56] get tired and just say, "Oh, we're going

[42:58] to play this game. Let's go 200%." And

[43:00] you walk really fast. Let's go 25% and

[43:03] walk at one quarter speed. And so it

[43:05] signals to your body that you're in a

[43:07] very safe environment. And so it

[43:10] overrides any thinking, any programming

[43:12] or habits by just telling your body,

[43:14] "We're going to move really slow." So

[43:17] that's one part of it. Now, the second

[43:18] part of it is really fascinating. We all

[43:20] have an electromagnetic field. We have

[43:23] an energy field within us and around us.

[43:26] And if you are a dog person, anybody

[43:28] here, dog people or cat people

[43:30] especially, they're super sensitive to

[43:32] this. and animals in general. Why is it

[43:34] when there's a bear, they tell you to

[43:35] get big? Yes, there is a visual

[43:38] component, but there's also an energy

[43:39] component to this. And so, if you're a

[43:41] dog or a cat person or you know how to

[43:43] interact with them, if you come up to a

[43:45] brand new dog you've never met and you

[43:46] do this and you walk towards them, they

[43:49] freak out. They're not interested in

[43:51] that person. So, you do the opposite and

[43:53] you get low and you crouch and you put

[43:55] your hand out and you cave your

[43:57] shoulders in and suddenly that body

[43:59] language cues to them, you are safe.

[44:01] this person is not a threat or you turn

[44:04] sideways. Dogs do this when they meet

[44:05] each other. Animals do this. If they're

[44:07] not a threat, they come sideways. So, if

[44:09] I was meeting Lee, I would do this

[44:11] rounded. And suddenly, it's a

[44:14] non-aggressive thing. I'm not going

[44:15] straight at him. And so, in this motion,

[44:18] you're opening up your energy. You're

[44:20] getting big energy. And so, what that

[44:23] allows is for that energy field to be

[44:26] projected, which in the in the case of

[44:28] calming your body, being more confident,

[44:30] it's extremely powerful. So Lee, can you

[44:32] lead us through an energy check-in

[44:34] before you had us check in? What's our

[44:36] energy level at? What's an emotion or a

[44:38] word we would associate with that?

[44:40] >> Yeah.

[44:40] >> Can you walk us through that now after

[44:41] this practice?

[44:42] >> Yeah, that's that's great. And and it's

[44:45] almost like we want to feel the

[44:47] transformation when you're working with

[44:49] energy. There's a transformation that

[44:51] happens. And so why don't you just hands

[44:53] down if you're sitting down, just palms

[44:55] in your lap and just go ahead and tune

[44:58] in and check in with your breathing.

[45:00] Just notice without even trying to

[45:02] change your breathing, just notice, am I

[45:04] breathing a little deeper, a little

[45:07] slower.

[45:09] And one of the best things you can do

[45:11] for health and longevity is breathe

[45:14] slower.

[45:15] And there's all kinds of research on how

[45:19] slow breathing is so good for so many

[45:22] different things. So if you just take a

[45:24] slow deep breath and then notice how is

[45:27] my energy now. Did my energy shift and

[45:30] change? I know it's just day one, but

[45:32] often we get really great results even

[45:35] just from one practice. And so at the

[45:38] beginning of class, we asked you to pick

[45:40] a number to describe your energy state.

[45:42] Why don't you just tune in what that

[45:44] number is now? Did it change? Did it

[45:47] move up a few points?

[45:49] You feel more balanced in your mind? Do

[45:51] you feel more relaxed, calm energy in

[45:55] your body?

[45:59] Great. And then also just think about

[46:01] what it is you want to create. Think

[46:03] about that intention because we did that

[46:06] flying exercise. We have a little bit

[46:08] more perspective. And I want you to tune

[46:11] in to what's possible.

[46:13] Let go of any self-doubt,

[46:16] any resistance, and just what's

[46:18] possible. I want you to tune into that

[46:21] intention of what it is you want to

[46:23] create over these next few days and even

[46:26] what is it you want to create in your

[46:28] life at this moment. If you looked at

[46:31] where do I want to go? Your mind and

[46:34] your intention is like a good GPS. It

[46:36] gives you direction on where you want to

[46:38] go. And if you have a good GPS, clear

[46:42] intention with enough fuel in the tank,

[46:45] enough chi, we get there. And so we're

[46:48] going to get you there over these few

[46:50] days and then continue getting you there

[46:53] with this beautiful practice. And as you

[46:56] continue to practice over a month or two

[46:59] months, your energy dramatically changes

[47:02] and transforms. And I've seen it over

[47:05] and over and over again. So I'm so glad

[47:08] you guys are here.

[47:09] >> Absolutely fantastic. So for those of

[47:12] you that are already signed up for the

[47:14] Chi Challenge, this is just day one.

[47:16] We're going to have day two through six

[47:17] coming up every day at the same time.

[47:20] You're going to find the link inside of

[47:21] Circle. And for those of you that

[47:23] haven't already, we do have a VIP offer.

[47:26] We're going to put the QR code up on the

[47:27] screen if you're not already there. We

[47:29] decided to make the VIP offer $1. It's

[47:33] $1 to sign up. You're going to get your

[47:35] first month of our membership where we

[47:38] do this live class three days a week

[47:40] here in the studio for those of you that

[47:42] haven't been a member before. And you're

[47:44] going to get the day and night chiong

[47:46] routines. Lee, can you walk us through

[47:48] what's so powerful about those?

[47:50] >> Well, yeah. And the day and night chiong

[47:51] routines aren't just routines. They are

[47:53] a whole entire workshop. And we want,

[47:56] you know, I love when people can really

[47:57] own their mornings and own their

[47:59] evenings because these are really

[48:01] important times. So, we have a workshop,

[48:04] a full workshop called Rise and Align.

[48:08] It's basically to start your day with

[48:11] more energy. So, there's tips and tricks

[48:14] and workouts and routines and

[48:16] meditations. It's a three-hour workshop

[48:18] on the morning so that you can, you

[48:21] know, we say in Chiang, start your day

[48:22] with a lightning flash of vitality.

[48:25] >> Ah, lightning flash of vitality in the

[48:26] morning. Really important. And then in

[48:29] the evening, we want to calm you and

[48:32] relax so that you sleep really well.

[48:34] Because when you sleep really well, what

[48:36] happens? You wake up with more energy.

[48:38] And then this cycle just starts to

[48:40] continue to really empower and create

[48:43] healing and all kinds of things happen

[48:46] that are really wonderful. So we give

[48:47] those two workshops both the morning and

[48:51] the evening. Rest and restore rise and

[48:53] align.

[48:54] >> It's [snorts] uh I might even say it's

[48:55] better than a cup of coffee for the

[48:57] morning. Yeah.

[48:58] >> Absolutely. [clears throat] Yeah.

[48:59] >> It's a bold statement. You don't have to

[49:01] quit your coffee, but it pairs nicely

[49:04] with a cup of coffee.

[49:05] >> Yes. So, I'm going to give you about 15

[49:07] seconds of the QR code up on the screen

[49:09] here if you're not already VIP.

[49:16] And so, there it is. If you're not

[49:19] already VIP, we decided to make it a

[49:21] dollar. So, it was just a no-brainer to

[49:23] give back. Gives you the first month of

[49:25] the membership where you're going to

[49:26] participate in classes like this up to

[49:28] three days a week. I think one day a

[49:30] week is totally incredible. If you can

[49:32] do two days a week, it really starts to

[49:34] enliven your energy. And three days a

[49:36] week, you're an absolute champion. And

[49:38] your energy, your chi is just going to

[49:41] be awesome all of the time. Because

[49:43] ultimately, it comes down to habits and

[49:45] a regular practice. As with anything in

[49:47] life, when you decide to start eating

[49:50] better, it impacts everything. And the

[49:52] same is true of this chi practice.

[49:55] Consider it a nutrient to a large

[49:56] extent. Doing this is going to help you

[49:59] with good energy. And so with that, I

[50:02] want to have Lee preview just a moment

[50:04] of one exercise for tomorrow's class and

[50:08] go a little bit deeper with us so we can

[50:09] really understand and respect this

[50:11] incredible motion in tomorrow's class.

[50:13] So Lee, can you walk us through the the

[50:14] movement?

[50:15] >> Absolutely.

[50:16] Tomorrow, so you saw a lot of lung

[50:18] meridian stuff today and these certain

[50:21] movements. So tomorrow we're going to

[50:23] continue and there's a movement in here

[50:25] that's going to work with spiraling

[50:27] energy. And whenever you look at nature,

[50:30] you're going to see nature spiraling,

[50:31] whether it's trees or water or waves.

[50:36] And so the movement of tomorrow,

[50:38] especially in the flow, is going to be

[50:40] great bear swims in the ocean. You like

[50:42] that name?

[50:43] >> That's hilarious. It's awesome.

[50:44] >> Great bear swims it. I don't know. We

[50:46] didn't see any great bears swimming in

[50:47] the stream there in Santa Cruz, but

[50:49] great bear swims in the ocean. It's

[50:51] going to be again for the lung meridian.

[50:54] You're going to spiral right through the

[50:56] lung meridian.

[50:58] sinking the chest, expanding the chest,

[51:01] lung meridian goes to the thumb. So you

[51:03] see this spiraling movement of the hands

[51:07] synchronized with breathing.

[51:09] And there's going to be a bunch of

[51:10] movements that work with spirals,

[51:14] deep breathing and slow flowing

[51:17] movements.

[51:19] How's that feel? Feels good already,

[51:20] huh?

[51:21] >> Incredible. I love the spiraling of the

[51:23] hands. It's such a great motion. And so

[51:25] for those of you in VIP, totally welcome

[51:27] you to tune in to the nighttime and the

[51:29] morning routine before tomorrow's

[51:31] workshop. And with that, we're so

[51:33] grateful that you're here. It's so

[51:35] exciting to have so many people

[51:37] participating in this good energy

[51:39] challenge, this chi challenge with us.

[51:41] Lee, any last words to let them go into

[51:43] their beautiful day?

[51:44] >> Yeah, I think like I said at at the end

[51:46] there, take that energy into the rest of

[51:49] your day because it's not only just

[51:51] about your practice, it's about your

[51:53] life. Chi living, energy living. So just

[51:57] living at that next frequency, that

[51:59] higher vibration where we're moving with

[52:02] more relaxation in our bodies, more

[52:04] circulating energy, a calmer, clearer

[52:06] mind, and a much more open heart. And so

[52:09] we'll see you in practice tomorrow.

[52:11] >> Yep. Amazing. Thank you so much

[52:13] everybody.

[52:14] >> Thank you so much for being here.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Art of Letting Go is a free six-day Qi Gong challenge led by Lee Holden, running from Sunday, October 4 through Friday, October 9, 2026. Its daily practices are built around the autumn theme of release, with breath work and gentle movement that can be done standing or seated. Each day's routine runs roughly 20 to 25 minutes, according to co-host Skip Kelly.
In Qi Gong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is described as Metal Season, a time associated with shedding what has accumulated. The challenge materials present it as the moment to release tension, strengthen resilience, and make space for what comes next. Holden links the idea to nature, noting that in fall leaves let go and nature doesn't cling.
Holden uses the image of a cup with murky water: if you pour new water into it without emptying it, you just have a full cup of murky water. The lesson is that you should release old energy, tension, or emotional residue before trying to bring in new energy. The practice begins with a check-in so you can see what you are carrying before you let it go.
No. Holden says the practice can be done standing or seated, from wherever you are, at whatever pace your body allows. The emphasis on slow movement and breath is designed to keep the practice accessible.
Co-host Skip Kelly described the daily routines as 20 to 25 minute practices. The sessions combine breath work with slow, sequenced movements like bending the knees, lengthening the spine, and synchronizing arm motions with the inhale and exhale.
Lee Holden is a Qi Gong teacher whose early path included studying under Mantak Chia in Thailand, according to co-host Skip Kelly's introduction. Kelly also said Holden wrote the bestselling book Ready, Set, Slow and that his PBS specials reached more than 50 million homes. Those figures are as Kelly stated them on the livestream.
In Holden's Day 1 teaching, the exhale is the release and the inhale is the intake. He describes using the exhale to move energy along the body's meridians while letting tension go. The challenge treats breath as the most direct way to practice letting go in the body.
