Sydney Chant Tribute: Surrender, Remembrance, and Love

Some recordings don't need a backstory to land. Nearly eight minutes of a community singing one short song over and over, with no spoken introduction and no captions explaining who is being honored, can still pull a viewer into a room they never stood in. "Celebrating Jo Vaani," posted by the Mantrafy with Edo channel, is that kind of document: a tribute assembled from video of a gathering in Sydney on September 24, 2015, where, according to the channel's own description, hundreds of people sang, cried, danced, and laughed for one beloved figure. The video gives us the song and the sound of the room. It does not give us a biography, and this article will not pretend otherwise.

What does the video actually show?

The footage opens on music before any voice arrives. At about 18 seconds the words begin: "Thank you for the love you've given me." From there the tribute settles into a short set of lines, each repeated until the phrase stops feeling like lyrics and starts feeling like breath. The channel's description, which is the only context the video offers, calls the event "a beautiful way to celebrate our Angel," describes the crowd as joining "in song, tears, dance and laughter," and credits Gary Gorow and Nick Fogs with putting the videos together. It also names the honoree in devotional terms: "Jo is love. Jo is Joy. Jai Jo Ma!"

That is all the material says about who Jo is, and it is worth being plain about that. The video is a gift to someone the makers love, not an explainer for strangers. A reader arriving cold will hear devotion without a map. The useful question is what that devotion sounds like when a crowd sings it together.

What are the words asking the singers to remember?

The lyric is built on three moves: gratitude, surrender, and remembrance. The gratitude is direct. "Thank you for this love. Thank you. Thank you for this love," the group sings, a line that returns again and again. The surrender comes next, and it is the emotional hinge of the piece. Around 100 seconds the call goes up: "Surrender. Surrender to this love." It is answered and repeated, and the phrasing gives the room a way to let go together rather than individually.

Then comes remembrance, which is the most striking choice. At about 116 seconds the group sings, "Remember, remember all this love," and later, at around 132 seconds, "Now I see that you remember me." The lyric turns the tribute inward. It is not only the crowd saying they love Jo; it is an invitation to recall a love that was already there, and to be recalled in return. The structure suggests the song is less a eulogy than a reminder, sung in the present tense.

"Remember, remember all this love." (sung by the group, about 116 seconds into the video)

Why does a repeated chant do what a speech can't?

Repetition is the craft here, and it is doing serious work. A spoken eulogy has to build toward a point and then land it. A chant, by contrast, stays in one emotional place and lets the listener sink into it. The lines come back until they are no longer about one moment in one hall; they become something a person can carry out the door. That is why the video's most affecting stretch is not its high point but its middle, where the lyric has been sung so many times that the words soften and only the pulse remains.

The closing passage makes this explicit. At about 228 seconds the group moves into "May all beings be happy and free." It is one of the oldest and most widely shared blessings in contemplative traditions, a lovingkindness phrase whose purpose is to widen the circle of care beyond a single person. Here it becomes the outward turn of the tribute: after the intimate "thank you" and the "remember me," the song opens the circle to everyone in the room, and beyond.

"May all beings be happy and free." (sung by the group, about 228 seconds into the video)

Between roughly 335 and 385 seconds, the singing breaks into a looser chant built on syllables that sound like "Suki no" and "babu." The transcript cannot resolve those syllables reliably, and this article will not guess at their meaning. What is audible is the shift in texture: a call-and-response feel, the room answering the leader's phrases rather than reading lyrics. That is how many sung traditions move a crowd from listening to participating, and it is the moment the video feels most like a live gathering rather than a recording of one.

What does the view count tell us?

The video has been viewed 129,595 times since it was posted in September 2015. For a homemade tribute stitched from footage shot by people in the room, that is a quiet kind of reach. It suggests the song found listeners who were not in Sydney that day and had no connection to the honoree, and who still responded to the refrain. Whatever Jo meant to the people on that floor, the recording carries the feeling of it to strangers.

Where to go from here

If this video moved you, the most useful thing is to sit with the song rather than try to decode every reference. Listen once for the gratitude, once for the surrender, and once for the place where the group turns outward to "all beings." Notice how the same few lines change weight as they repeat. If you want to know more about the person being celebrated, the video itself will not tell you; the channel description and the people who assembled the footage are the only sources it names. Treat the recording as what it is: a community singing its love for someone, preserved long enough for the rest of us to hear it.

Preguntas Frecuentes

It is a community tribute recorded at a gathering in Sydney on September 24, 2015, where hundreds of people sang, danced, and wept together for a beloved figure. The video is built on a short sung refrain about gratitude, surrender, and remembrance, with no spoken biography of the honoree.
According to the channel's description, the celebration took place in Sydney on September 24, 2015. The video was posted to YouTube on the same date, and the footage was assembled by Gary Gorow and Nick Fogs.
The phrase is a lovingkindness blessing that widens care from one person to everyone. In this tribute it appears near the end, at about 228 seconds, turning the song outward from the honoree to the whole room and beyond.
Repetition lets a group settle into a feeling rather than follow an argument. As the lines return, they stop sounding like words on a page and start working like breath, so the listener can let go together instead of tracking a narrative.
The video's description uses 'Jai Jo Ma!' as a shout of devotion alongside 'Jo is love. Jo is Joy.' The video itself does not explain the phrase, so its precise meaning is not stated in the source material.
The video does not give a biography. The description calls Jo 'our Angel' and 'our beloved,' and describes the tribute as an offering from friends, but it does not say what Jo did or where Jo taught.
