The Finite Mind's Pathto Experiencing the Infinite

Radhanath Swami

We live inside strict boundaries. Our bodies age. Our minds forget. Our time runs out. We measure ourselves against others and feel the weight of our smallness. Yet Radhanath Swami offers a radically different frame: the limits we feel are not the final truth. By the grace of something unlimited—what he calls the Paramatma, or the Divine—the finite can directly know the infinite.

How Does the Unlimited Become Known to the Limited?

The teaching rests on a paradox: material existence is inherently limited. The jiva, or individual soul, cannot by its own power expand beyond its nature. But Krishna—understood in this tradition as the unlimited source of all creation—possesses a power that transcends this law. That power is not distant or theoretical; it works through grace, through the willing opening of a finite being to something greater than itself.

What Radhanath Swami describes is not intellectual understanding but direct realization. The limited does not become unlimited. Rather, the finite consciousness recognizes and merges into an experience of infinity that was always present. This is the paradox: you do not grow large enough to touch the infinite. Instead, you step into its presence, and your ordinary sense of boundary dissolves.

This teaching draws from the Bhakti Vedanta tradition, where Krishna represents not a distant god but the source and sustainer of all existence. The path is not about acquiring something new but about removing the veils of identification with the small self—the ego, the body, the limited story we tell about who we are. Through practice, devotion, and grace, those veils thin. And in that thinning, the unlimited becomes knowable.

The implication is profound: your limitations are not your destiny. They are conditions within a larger field of possibility. The Divine does not ask you to transcend the human. It asks you to recognize that your humanity sits within something boundless, and to open to that reality with your whole being.

Where to go from here

Radhanath Swami's full teachings on the nature of consciousness, the role of grace, and the practices of devotion are explored in greater depth across his broader body of work. His teachings on Bhakti practice and the relationship between the finite self and infinite reality offer a complete framework for understanding and living this principle.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

The jiva is the individual soul or conscious being, inherently limited in its nature. The Paramatma is the unlimited, all-pervading Divine consciousness. According to this teaching, the jiva cannot expand beyond its limits through its own effort, but by grace can experience union with or direct knowledge of the unlimited Paramatma.
Radhanath Swami teaches that the unlimited power of Krishna (the Divine) has the capacity to make itself known to finite consciousness through grace. This is not intellectual understanding but a direct realization in which the boundaries of the small self dissolve and the infinite becomes experientially present.
No. The teaching is about recognizing that your humanity exists within a boundless field of existence. You do not become unlimited or lose your identity. Rather, you open to the presence of the unlimited that already surrounds and sustains you, and your sense of possibility expands beyond the boundaries you believed were fixed.
