In my early twenties, I met a teacher who would transform my life — Gabriel Perstyn. He wasn’t a celebrity or author. He was a carpenter by trade, but a master of energy, stillness, and embodied awareness.

A small group of us would gather in his backyard in San Francisco to study martial arts that transcended physical movement. What he shared was far beyond technique — it was the transmission of presence itself.

For over twenty years, until his passing, I studied with Gabriel and saw what true mastery looks like: humility, precision, and a quiet devotion to truth. He never sought attention. His teaching lived in silence.

Another enduring influence on my path is Professor Paramjeet Singh, my Kirtan teacher for more than two decades. He represents a deeply traditional lineage — teaching children and adults the sacred devotional music of India. He has no interest in fame or self-promotion, only in preserving the living spirit of Gurbani Kirtan, the ancient Sikh art of singing divine poetry.
