Shamanic Feng Shui: Reading Your Home as a Living Energy Field

The Shift Network
The Shift Network

Greetings, and welcome to a livestream that opens with a confession of delight. The founder and president of The Shift Network, introducing the hour, says that when he hears the phrase "shamanic feng shui," he lights up, because two lineages with very different histories are about to meet. His guest is Davina MacKail, a feng shui master, shamanic teacher, Hay House author and former nurse who has spent decades treating the home as something far more than furniture and floor plans. Her proposition is simple to state and hard to shake: a house is a responsive, living energy field, and it reflects back the patterns of the people who live inside it. Across the broadcast she traced her path from a childhood spent around the dying, through a near-death crisis on the highest road in the world, to the training that made her a feng shui practitioner. She then laid out the working vocabulary of her approach, which includes the front door as the mouth of qi, clutter as stalled energy, and the body as an instrument for reading a room. Finally she guided viewers through a journey to their own threshold. This piece unpacks those ideas for readers who did not watch, and explains why the practice asks more of us than a weekend of rearranging.

Where does a feng shui teacher's path begin?

MacKail did not set out to become a shamanic practitioner. By her own account, neither feng shui nor shamanism was on the career curriculum at school. She grew up in a residential home for elderly people run by her grandparents, and she saw people at the end of their lives in distress long before she had words for what she was witnessing. That early exposure left her with a question she has returned to for decades, which she put plainly in the livestream: "there has to be a better way to die than this and there has to be a better way to live if this is it."

Her adult life looked conventional for a while. She trained as a nurse, completed a degree, worked in a PR company and ran a radio station. Then, around her Saturn return at 28, she set out with a friend on a seven-month journey through several countries and ended up hitchhiking to Tibet along the highest road in the world. The trip nearly ended her. She describes severe altitude sickness, hallucinations and an out-of-body experience, at a time when, as she put it, nobody knew where she and her friend were, because there were no mobile phones. Her framing of that episode is the key to everything that follows. At about the three-minute mark she said, "from a shamanic perspective, that whole near-death experience is one of those unlooked for initiation paths." Shamanic traditions across many cultures treat illness, crisis and visionary states as thresholds that change a person's relationship to the world, and MacKail describes her own life after Tibet in exactly those terms. Things "just started to happen differently," and she came to understand her life through what she calls a spirit perspective.

How did a call-center job lead to feng shui training?

The next thread runs through business and then a bleak chapter. MacKail set up a telecoms company in Hong Kong, working in partnership with a Chinese firm. When business faltered, that partner sent a feng shui master to look at the situation, and MacKail noticed that something shifted. She wanted to learn more, but as she recalled, no master of the tradition was eager to teach "some white blonde young girl" the secrets of the craft.

Back in the UK, she found herself in a call center in Leeds, in a job she describes as miserable. A panic button connected to the local police station, the view was tarmac and barbed wire, and she had been brought in to replace someone else. At the low point she read a magazine article about feng shui, and it led her to the first school of feng shui set up in the United Kingdom. She became one of its first students. The training that followed was unusual because there was no Western lineage to draw on. As she explained, the school's founder had to look around the world for practitioners who could be flown in to teach, so the education was eclectic by necessity. Her first apprenticeship lasted five years, and during that period she met her first Peruvian feng shui teacher. That encounter opened the door to a much longer relationship with the Andean world.

What happens when feng shui and shamanism meet?

MacKail has since done several long-term plant medicine apprenticeships. She has worked with Q'ero practitioners in the high Andes and with Puma, the Peruvian teacher she describes as a very well-known figure. She recalled working with his grandfather decades ago, and she says she has been taking pilgrims to Peru with Puma and his family for the last 25 years. Her account of the two traditions is one of the most useful lines in the hour, because it resolves a question many newcomers ask. She said, "They are two languages that converge from a different perspective into the same conversation."

In practice this means her feng shui is not only about compass directions, element charts and the placement of furniture. It is about relationship. The question she asks of a home is not only "what is the energy doing?" but "what is my experience in relation to it?" That shift in stance, from classifying a space to relating to it, is what the shamanic lens adds.

Why would your home mirror your unconscious self?

MacKail's starting point is the body. In her words, "for me, the body is the first temple." The home, she says, is the next level of that temple. It is the place where we shut the door on the world and behave in the ways we keep private, which makes it, in her view, the place where our most intimate and unconscious selves are most honestly expressed. She told the audience that over the last 30 years she has observed how a person's home is "an absolute direct mirror" of their unconscious self.

This is the core claim, and it is worth taking seriously as a practice rather than a slogan. If a home is a mirror, then its clutter, its worn surfaces and its unfinished projects are not random. They are information. A hallway full of unsorted boxes may point to deferred decisions. A room no one enjoys may point to a part of life that has been shut away. The point is not to diagnose yourself from your sofa. It is to notice what the rooms are telling you, then ask what in your life is asking for attention in the same way.

What is the mouth of qi, and why does the front door matter?

The front door is the centerpiece of the livestream's most practical teaching. MacKail's guided experience, which she calls "The Arrival — A Journey to the Mouth of Qi," takes participants to the threshold of their home as a way of meeting its energy directly. Around the 48-minute mark she turned to the entrance and to every threshold point in the house, emphasizing that these are where the home takes in the world and where the world takes in the home.

Thresholds carry special weight in many traditions because they are the points of exchange. Energy comes in, and it leaves. A door that sticks, a light that flickers, a mat that is worn through or a pile of shoes that blocks the way all alter the quality of that exchange. MacKail's approach invites you to stand at the door, notice what you feel as you approach, and treat the entrance as the first conversation you have with the space each day. Her message is that the front door is not just an architectural feature. It is where you practice arrival, in both senses of the word.

How do clutter, objects and worn things reveal stuck energy?

The livestream was concrete about objects. MacKail asked viewers to look at things that seem ordinary: statues placed in certain positions, paintwork that is peeling, objects that feel dilapidated, and the bags of unwanted items waiting in a garage. Around the 32-minute mark she describes how these details can signal a space that feels tired or stalled, and she frames them not as moral failings but as signals. A cracked object or faded wall is a message that something needs care or release.

Her emphasis on small, responsive changes is the most encouraging part of the teaching. Around the 36-minute mark she observed that people often assume they must undertake huge renovations to shift a space, but that many changes can be made far more simply, "rather than the big enormous renovations." Moving an object, clearing one corner, repairing one surface or removing one bag can alter how a room feels. The goal is responsiveness, not perfection. The house is a living field, and it changes when you change your relationship to it.

The hour also included a practice focused on clutter, which MacKail introduced at about the 54-minute mark as a meditation exercise. The lesson is that clearing physical space can open a corresponding depth of inner space, and that both happen through attention.

How do you read a room with your body?

One of the most accessible tools MacKail offers is somatic. Around the 22-minute mark she pointed out that when you walk into a space, you can notice whether your stomach clenches or relaxes. That bodily response is data about the field you have entered. It is not a verdict on decor; it is a reading of how the room meets you. Because the body is the first temple, its signals become the first measure of whether a space supports you.

This is also why her approach works well as a self-guided practice. You do not need to memorize a compass or a list of symbols to begin. You need to walk through your home slowly, pause at each threshold, notice what your body does, and then decide on one intentional shift. The livestream asked viewers to identify exactly that: one change they could make.

Where to go from here

The most useful next step is the one MacKail built into her hour: a direct, experiential encounter with your own home. Start with the front door. Stand there before you enter, notice your breath and the sensation in your stomach, and ask what the threshold is telling you. Then walk the rest of the house, paying attention to clutter, worn surfaces, and rooms you avoid. Choose one intentional shift and make it, however small. Repeat the practice after a week to see what has changed in both the room and in you.

Two further points are worth holding. First, the teaching is rooted in a lived lineage that combines feng shui training, a near-death initiation, and long apprenticeship in Andean plant medicine traditions. Its authority comes from practice, not theory alone. Second, the host announced a follow-up program with MacKail focused on the energy, symbolism and spirit of the home, for viewers who want to go deeper than a single hour. Whatever path you take, the central invitation is the same one that runs through the whole livestream: treat your home as something that can answer you, and listen differently.

[0:10] Well, greetings everyone and welcome to

[0:12] a truly special and fascinating online

[0:15] event today. It's called Discover

[0:16] Shamanic Fenue. Reveal where energy is

[0:19] stuck and create greater flow in your

[0:21] space and life through seven stages of

[0:23] alchemy. My name is Steven Dyn. I'm the

[0:26] founder and president of the Shift

[0:27] Network and I love to discover new

[0:30] perspectives, deeper perspectives on how

[0:32] we can live a sacred life in alignment

[0:35] with the larger currents of energy and

[0:37] potential that we have access to. We're

[0:40] going to get to explore a very unique

[0:42] perspective on Fenuee and this ancient

[0:45] art and how it can apply in your life

[0:47] today with a remarkable teacher. Her

[0:49] name is Deina McCale. She's a uh fenue

[0:53] master, shamanic teacher, co-founder of

[0:55] nw.co

[0:57] as well as a Hay House author and we are

[1:00] very excited that Deavine is going to

[1:01] take us on this journey into the

[1:02] shamanic fin. We're going to get a very

[1:04] practical application today. And if you

[1:07] want to go further and really work with

[1:09] the energy, symbolism, and spirit of

[1:11] your space, we have a brand new program

[1:12] with her coming up all on shimonic fenue

[1:15] you'll hear about later in the hour. So

[1:17] with that said, Deina, thanks so much

[1:18] for joining today. I'm absolutely

[1:20] delighted to be here, Stephen. Thank you

[1:22] for inviting me. In fact, I'm very

[1:23] excited to share this with you. Yeah, I

[1:26] just know the power of it. That's why.

[1:28] >> Yeah. Well, one of the things I always

[1:30] find um that excites me personally is

[1:32] that when you get cross-pollination

[1:33] between different lineages. So, when you

[1:34] I see the term shamanic funue, I just

[1:37] kind of light up like, oh, that's going

[1:38] to be some inter an interesting marriage

[1:41] of two different kind of lineages and

[1:43] perspectives. And so I want to first

[1:45] just ask a little bit about your journey

[1:47] into uh fenue and then also this kind of

[1:50] more unique shamanic fenue angle that

[1:52] we're going to be talking about today.

[1:55] >> Yes. Well, I have to admit neither funue

[1:58] or shamanism was on the uh career

[2:01] curriculum when I was at school. So it

[2:03] definitely had to find me in life. I

[2:05] wasn't going to I wouldn't have known

[2:07] what to look for if I was going out to

[2:09] find it. So I had quite I mean I grew up

[2:12] in a psycho geriatric old people's home

[2:14] run by my grandparents

[2:17] and that's quite an interesting um

[2:19] childhood for any child and I I saw

[2:23] people at the end of their lives in a

[2:25] very distressed state at a very young

[2:27] age before I really understood what that

[2:29] was and I'm mentioning that because that

[2:31] question of there has to be a better way

[2:33] to die than this and there has to be a

[2:35] better way to live if this is it you

[2:38] know and I saw that at the beginning of

[2:40] life already the end. That kind of

[2:42] question has really informed my journey

[2:44] but because as I said there I grew up in

[2:47] a very conventional life that did not

[2:49] have those terms for alternative health

[2:52] things in those those times and it

[2:55] wasn't really till my Saturn returned 28

[2:57] years old that um so I you know I

[2:59] trained as a nurse I did a degree I

[3:01] worked in a PR company ran a radio

[3:03] station all these very sort of normal

[3:05] kind of normal jobs and then in my

[3:08] Saturn return I went on this adventure

[3:10] with a friend and we traveled for seven

[3:14] months in all sorts of places around the

[3:16] world and I actually ended up

[3:17] hitchhiking to Tibet along the highest

[3:19] road in the world from

[3:21] >> That's bold.

[3:22] >> Yeah, it was very bold. Um in 199 before

[3:25] mobile phones so really nobody knew

[3:27] where we were and as an ex- nurse I was

[3:30] quite paranoid about like right if we

[3:32] get altitude sickness we got to go down

[3:34] and of course there was no real down.

[3:36] And it was this very slow, long incline

[3:39] with just the odd yak here and there.

[3:41] And I got horrendous altitude sickness.

[3:44] I mean, the worst I've ever had to the

[3:46] point where I really was out of body

[3:48] experience, hallucinating. Didn't know

[3:50] if I would survive that or anything. And

[3:52] of course, from a shamanic perspective,

[3:54] that whole near-death experience is one

[3:56] of those unlooked for initiation paths.

[4:00] And so that really was the beginning of

[4:03] the shift.

[4:04] things just started to happen

[4:06] differently in my life after that. I

[4:08] understood my life differently and the

[4:10] sort of spirit perspective and that kind

[4:12] of coincided when I got back to the UK.

[4:14] I was back in the telecoms industry and

[4:17] I actually set up a telecoms company in

[4:19] Hong Kong and that's where I first got

[4:21] introduced to Funue because we'd had we

[4:24] were in partnership with a Chinese

[4:25] company and they sent a fune master in

[4:28] because business wasn't that great and

[4:29] it really shifted something and I was

[4:31] like wow that's really interesting. I

[4:33] want to know more about that. But of

[4:35] course, no fune master wants to teach

[4:37] some white blonde young girl how their,

[4:40] you know, secrets of their ways in those

[4:42] days. Came back to the UK and I was

[4:44] actually in a very miserable scenario a

[4:47] couple of years later working in a call

[4:49] center in Meanwood Road in Leeds. I had

[4:52] a panic button to the police station,

[4:54] looked out on tarmac, barbed wire

[4:56] fences. Nobody really wanted me there

[4:58] because I'd been shipped in to take over

[5:00] from somebody else. It was miserable. Um

[5:03] really really like the worst fune and I

[5:06] can remember I don't even know what it

[5:08] was some magazine or something and I

[5:09] remember reading an article about fun. I

[5:12] was like, "Oh, that's interesting. I

[5:14] found that in ch, you know, maybe." And

[5:15] I followed it up and it actually led to

[5:18] the first school that was set up in the

[5:20] UK, um, funue school international

[5:24] and I ended up being one of their very

[5:26] first students and the rest as they say

[5:28] is history and it was actually through

[5:30] fun that funue training because there

[5:32] were no teachers. There was nobody to

[5:34] ship in or bring in. There was no kind

[5:36] of western lineage of this tradition. So

[5:39] we had to or the woman that set that

[5:41] school up really had to look all over

[5:42] the world to find people to fly in and

[5:45] train us and as a result it was a very

[5:47] eclectic training. So I actually met my

[5:50] first Peruvian fune teacher during my

[5:53] fune training during those years and

[5:56] then that led to a very long shamanic um

[5:59] journey. That first apprenticeship was

[6:01] five years. Then I've done various other

[6:04] long-term plant medicine

[6:06] apprenticeships. Um, I've worked off

[6:08] with the Kerro up in the high Andes and

[6:10] of course I've worked with Puma who I

[6:11] know is a f very popular factor.

[6:15] >> Yeah, I met his grand I mean I was I'm

[6:16] old enough to have actually worked with

[6:18] his grandfather way back when.

[6:20] >> Oh wow.

[6:20] >> I I actually know Papa Kai and

[6:22] Dondestario and all of you know those

[6:24] wisdom keepers and I've been taking

[6:26] pilgrims um to Peru with Puma and his

[6:29] family for the last 25 years. Ah, I love

[6:32] that.

[6:32] >> That's kind of so for me, yes, shamanic

[6:36] fune,

[6:37] they they're not two separate paths.

[6:41] They are two languages that converge

[6:43] from a different perspective into the

[6:45] same conversation. I think

[6:47] >> I love that. Well, I love all the

[6:48] lineages uh that influence you and uh

[6:51] and the overlap. So let's talk about a

[6:53] little bit the worldview of funue

[6:55] because I think it's so common in the

[6:57] west for people on a holistic path of

[6:59] healing development to really focus on

[7:00] our own energetic systems and largely

[7:03] neglect what's happening around us in

[7:05] terms of the environment and maybe share

[7:07] a little bit about how energetic fields

[7:10] work both kind of from the personal

[7:12] extending out into the environment and

[7:14] how that we can sort of work with that

[7:15] in a more um hot spread.

[7:17] It's an interesting one, isn't it?

[7:19] Because like for me, the body is the

[7:20] first temple. You know, we have to look

[7:22] after our physical body, but we're not

[7:24] terribly good at it always. And the

[7:26] thing that houses our body in there is

[7:28] our home. It's [snorts] like the next

[7:31] level of that physical temple. And so I

[7:35] see and I see because our home is also

[7:38] where we generally feel safe to express

[7:42] ourselves. It's where we can shut the

[7:44] door on the world and flop out or, you

[7:47] know, do what we do behind closed doors

[7:49] and nobody knows about it. So, it's

[7:50] actually where we truly express our

[7:52] unconscious, more intimate selves, but

[7:55] we don't always get that. And so, I have

[7:58] observed over the last 30 years how

[8:00] people's homes are an absolute direct

[8:03] mirror of their unconscious selves and

[8:05] they just don't see it. to the way we

[8:07] place our furniture, the objects, the

[8:09] symbolisms, the metaphors, how we choose

[8:11] to live, the flow around our homes,

[8:13] everything speaks volumes about who we

[8:15] are, how we relate to others, what we're

[8:18] working on, where we're stuck, and what

[8:20] we can transform. So, for me, it's it is

[8:23] a little bit like reverse therapy. So,

[8:26] we can work on the internal, but it can

[8:27] take years or we can actually learn the

[8:30] language of fune, and it is a language.

[8:32] And when you get to learn the precision

[8:35] of that language, we can really work

[8:37] with our home and see it in a new way,

[8:38] make changes on the external, which will

[8:40] still bring up those internal shifts,

[8:43] but it's often quicker and faster for

[8:44] the transformation. [clears throat]

[8:47] >> You know, as you're speaking, I was

[8:48] thinking a little bit about some of the

[8:49] Peruvian shamanic traditions and how

[8:52] important the messa can be for like sort

[8:55] of like almost like the microcosm for

[8:56] the macrocosm. So, if you want to shift

[8:58] something out of life, you shift it on

[8:59] your altar first. And and so it's kind

[9:02] of like turning your home into a giant

[9:04] altar. Really?

[9:05] >> It is. And actually, I think in historic

[9:08] terms, I think the first temple um

[9:11] historically was about 12t by 15t. So

[9:14] the size of somebody's home, a room. And

[9:17] it is for me it's about turning your

[9:19] home into a sacred space. Because when

[9:22] you create a sacred space that you live

[9:24] in, your whole life starts to become

[9:26] sacred. You take better care of

[9:28] yourself. you take better care of your

[9:30] loved ones. Everything has an ongoing

[9:32] knock-on effect and benefit from this

[9:34] alchemical process of working with home.

[9:37] So, it's exactly like the mesa, the

[9:39] external messa is a reflection of your

[9:41] internal self. So is your home. And it's

[9:43] interesting, isn't it? Because Maslov's

[9:44] hierarchy of needs. Home is right down

[9:47] the bottom. You know, it's like under

[9:49] security and safety, it's like this is

[9:51] just the base level, right? And then

[9:53] everything else we're aspiring to above

[9:55] that. But if we actually look after that

[9:57] base level and set that strong

[9:59] foundation, it actually brings in a much

[10:03] more powerful um foundational force for

[10:07] your life to really get those shifts and

[10:09] changes.

[10:10] >> So I want to ask you a question that

[10:11] sort of bridges a little bit between the

[10:13] shamanic and the funue. So so what I

[10:15] understand of a lot of fun, you're just

[10:16] optimizing the energy. So you're sort of

[10:18] like for benefit, for success, for

[10:21] thriving, all that. And a lot of the

[10:22] shamanic perspective there's qualities

[10:24] of death and rebirth of having to go

[10:26] through deep initiatory processes to

[10:28] sort of actualize shed layers of oursel.

[10:31] Do do you sort of integrate pieces of

[10:33] that kind of more of the shamanic in

[10:36] initiatory energy into the home then?

[10:39] >> So what how I see it? So funue has a

[10:42] language. It kind of brings if you like

[10:43] a little bit like the science. It brings

[10:45] the maps and the precision and sometimes

[10:48] the calculations and the language of it.

[10:50] But what the shamanic element does is

[10:53] it's much older. It's much deeper. And I

[10:55] believe the foundations of fune were

[10:57] equally shamanic. We might call it

[10:59] funue, but really there is a shamanic

[11:01] basis to it ultimately. So the shamanic

[11:04] aspect is that land there's a spirit of

[11:07] place. Every land has a diva, a a a

[11:11] living energy that we embody. We may

[11:14] build our four walls and containers on

[11:16] top of it, but the land underneath your

[11:18] home, even if it's a new build, has a

[11:20] much deeper energy. What's your

[11:22] relationship with that? What's your

[11:23] relationship with the form of the

[11:25] landscape and the architecture from

[11:27] which you live inside? All of these

[11:29] inform this conversation. So, it's like

[11:32] they they interweave with one another

[11:34] and one gives rise to the other and the

[11:37] other gives rise to the other. So, they

[11:38] are very interweaved. So I think what I

[11:41] would say the fundamental difference is

[11:43] that funue gives this precise languaging

[11:46] to our metaphors, our archetypes. It

[11:49] allows us to see ourselves through the

[11:51] eyes of our home where the fune teaches

[11:54] us how to create your home as a living

[11:57] ally that it's not a pile of inanimate

[11:59] bricks and mortar which I really do not

[12:01] think of my home. We we a lot of us do

[12:03] think like that but it's a living

[12:05] breathing entity and when we are in

[12:07] right relationship with it then things

[12:10] really can transform in our lives in a

[12:11] very positive way and yes it's working

[12:14] with theqi and funue is all about the

[12:17] chi flow and there are two types in

[12:19] terms of funue there's the shen chi

[12:21] which is the beneficial free flowing

[12:23] healthy chi that we wish to encourage

[12:25] and cultivate and then there's the shi

[12:28] which is that more negative chi that

[12:30] gets stuck and stag stagnant and causes

[12:32] us issues and arguments and problems in

[12:35] life. And so we're working with those,

[12:36] but they can be done through placement,

[12:38] through color, through form, but they

[12:40] can also be done through relationship

[12:42] with the land energies like, you know,

[12:44] what are the plants growing in your

[12:45] garden? Where are your guardian spirits

[12:47] living? Have you ever spoken to your

[12:49] land, said hello, you know, said hello

[12:52] to your home even? I mean, I do actually

[12:54] speak to my home every single day, you

[12:56] know, just how you doing? Hello, how are

[12:59] you? And it's really building because

[13:01] then as I say rather than just something

[13:03] where we come home, dump our stuff, you

[13:06] know, and leave the house again in the

[13:08] next morning, it becomes a responsive

[13:10] field that really starts to nurture and

[13:13] feed us and inform us about things. And

[13:15] so we get a deep vitality from being in

[13:18] relationship with both the land energies

[13:20] and the form within our space.

[13:23] >> I love that. So you're really providing

[13:24] the widest context of the land, the

[13:26] lineage, and then how does that sculpt

[13:29] the sort of the more of the living

[13:31] intelligence of the the house as as a as

[13:34] a support

[13:35] >> for us? And also, you know, it sounds

[13:37] like really there is a kind of

[13:38] intelligent presence that that you can

[13:41] connect with very much like shamanic

[13:43] traditions.

[13:45] >> So um so when you start a diagnosis of

[13:48] of a particular space or where do where

[13:50] do you start then? you start from that

[13:52] widest context and then kind of work

[13:53] inwards or from the person out.

[13:56] >> So, we need to look when we're starting

[13:57] with a diagnosis for a client, it's

[13:59] really important that we look at what

[14:01] they bought into. So, they've bought a

[14:03] new home because history repeats. So, we

[14:06] have these blueprints and we all have an

[14:08] innate understanding of this. We know it

[14:10] even though we might not have a language

[14:11] for it. So, for example, I notice or you

[14:14] may notice that um a shop or a business

[14:17] in your street constantly seems to go

[14:19] bankrupt. It doesn't matter what

[14:21] business goes in there. It could be a

[14:22] toy shop, a sweet shop, a car showroom,

[14:24] and then six months later it seems to

[14:26] have gone bust again because it holds a

[14:29] blueprint of bankruptcy. And until that

[14:31] has changed and shifted and we can work

[14:34] with that, then that will continue to be

[14:36] its history. So for example, it's the

[14:38] Chinese in funue terms we call it

[14:40] predecessory. So what's the predecessor

[14:42] you've bought into? Did you buy your

[14:45] home from someone that has gone bankrupt

[14:47] or got divorced or died in that home?

[14:50] These are all things that can be solved,

[14:52] but it's good to know that because then

[14:54] you might start to repeat that. I mean,

[14:56] I've endlessly gone to clients houses

[14:59] where, you know, they've ended up

[15:01] splitting up and then you find out that

[15:03] the last two previous owners of that

[15:05] house had also left that home because

[15:07] there was a divorce in

[15:09] process, for example. So, and then you

[15:12] look at the form what's called in um

[15:15] fune terms armchair funue. You look at

[15:17] the landscape form. How does that

[15:18] property sit in the landscape? What's

[15:21] around it? Is it near a church that's

[15:23] going to bring in a lot of yin um

[15:25] energy? I can remember one house of a

[15:28] client I went to see um many years ago.

[15:31] And literally I went into her living

[15:33] room there was only her. She lived on

[15:35] her own and in her living room she had

[15:37] this enormous like about 12 14 chairs

[15:40] all set up around um the thing and I

[15:43] just said, "Wow, do you have lots of

[15:45] visitors or do you run events or small

[15:47] groups in there?" "No," she said, "No, I

[15:48] don't really have anyone around." And

[15:50] then I just happened to notice I glanced

[15:52] out the window and realized that we were

[15:54] actually on the same level as the

[15:56] headstones in the graveyard. And it's

[15:58] almost like all these chairs were set up

[16:00] for the spirits. They were all having

[16:02] their own com flab in her living room.

[16:04] [laughter]

[16:05] >> A little spot of tea with the local

[16:07] ghosts.

[16:07] >> Yeah, exactly. And it can be really that

[16:10] literal at times. Um, in terms of that

[16:13] conversation and then so you start at

[16:15] the outer and you work more into the

[16:18] inner and then you will go room by room,

[16:20] you know, what do you want your

[16:21] relationship to look like, etc., etc.

[16:24] And we have a particular map of

[16:26] particular areas that relate to these

[16:28] areas and we can see what symbolically

[16:30] is represented there.

[16:32] >> Well, I know we don't have time to go

[16:33] into all of them, but maybe like how

[16:35] about we I know we're going to do a bit

[16:37] of an experiential around the front

[16:38] entrance area. So maybe share a little

[16:40] bit about how we can understand the

[16:42] front entrance within this larger

[16:44] context of energies.

[16:45] >> Yes. I mean, so so what I wanted to give

[16:48] people today is a real sense because

[16:50] there's a lot and there's a lot of

[16:52] language and there's a lot of new terms,

[16:54] but our front door is, you know, if

[16:56] we're going out to work, we're probably

[16:58] coming in and out of that front door

[16:59] twice a day every day. And a threshold

[17:02] point, something that connects you

[17:04] between two energies. So an inside

[17:05] energy and an outside energy, right?

[17:08] That's called a threshold point. And it

[17:10] changes state. So how you are outside is

[17:12] different from how you are inside. So

[17:15] this crossing point is a hugely powerful

[17:17] point. It's like why people meditate at

[17:19] dawn and dusk. Those those liinal what I

[17:22] call the liinal spaces between one state

[17:25] and between dark and light. They have a

[17:28] particular magic. There's you know

[17:29] shamanically we always love the liinal

[17:31] spaces between dawn and dusk as well

[17:33] between the edges of places. So the same

[17:35] thing around the entrance but our front

[17:38] door is where all of our opportunities

[17:40] come. So your visitors, your friends,

[17:42] your family, you your post, um hopefully

[17:46] large checks, anything is all going to

[17:48] come through that front door. So what

[17:50] are you inviting the flow ofqi into your

[17:53] home or are you blocking those

[17:54] opportunities and keeping them out? And

[17:56] it's interesting, isn't it, that

[17:58] entrance as in entrance to our home is

[18:01] one way. But then that word is also

[18:03] entrance as to be captivated as to be

[18:08] entranced and be mu. And of course uh

[18:10] entrance is a spell. So [clears throat]

[18:13] every time you move

[18:14] >> spellcasting

[18:15] >> yeah every time you move in and out you

[18:18] are unconsciously spellcasting yourself

[18:20] whether you're conscious of it or aware

[18:22] of it or not. So the experiential

[18:24] practice is to bring that awareness to

[18:26] the four so you have an understanding of

[18:29] what you're spelling yourself with each

[18:30] day. I have a kind of specific question

[18:33] around that. So like our house as an

[18:35] example is that we primarily are coming

[18:37] in out of the garage because we we live

[18:39] kind of out in the country. We generally

[18:40] drive in and out of the garage. So does

[18:42] that affect the energy of the house when

[18:43] you're sort of

[18:44] >> when you're primarily not using the

[18:46] front door?

[18:47] >> Yeah. So for example, so probably if

[18:50] you're do you keep your gar um your car

[18:52] in the garage?

[18:53] >> Yes.

[18:54] >> Yeah. So, you've got a very yang energy

[18:56] coming in there because I mean is there

[18:58] I mean I I have to ask these other

[19:00] questions to really get down to the

[19:01] nitty-gritty here, Stephen. So, um do

[19:04] you have any clutter in your garage or

[19:05] is it just your car?

[19:07] >> Uh there's clutter. Um I'm I'm more the

[19:09] declutterer. Um my wife is the clutterer

[19:12] and so I and the kids. Uh so I I'm

[19:15] tending to be fighting an uphill battle

[19:17] against clutter.

[19:18] >> So and what and where what do you come

[19:20] into if you come through the garage

[19:21] door? What's the room you come into?

[19:22] >> It's a pantry. Uh, so there's kind of

[19:24] more food and kind of dry goods and

[19:27] stuff.

[19:27] >> So it would be an interesting little

[19:29] experiment. So what you're doing is

[19:30] you're bringing a very yang energy in.

[19:32] So you probably drive home into the

[19:34] garage and then come out into the

[19:35] pantry.

[19:36] >> So you might find that just on a simple

[19:39] level that a lot of your opportunity so

[19:42] there's quite an aggressive energy

[19:44] coming in. So there's not necessarily

[19:46] that slowing down before you kind of get

[19:48] into your house. And maybe the first

[19:50] thing you often want to do when you get

[19:51] home is eat. [laughter] If you're going

[19:53] through the pantry, listen to that.

[19:56] >> Yeah. Often coming home to cook or get a

[19:58] meal.

[19:58] >> Aggressive eating. Aggressive eating.

[20:01] [laughter]

[20:01] >> Yeah. Or wanting a snack on the way in.

[20:03] I'm just going to say that. So if your

[20:06] front your main entrance that was

[20:08] designed architecturally designed in

[20:09] that house is not used, you might find

[20:12] that this chi in your home is quite slow

[20:15] and that your opportunities are often

[20:16] outside the home and not necessarily in

[20:18] the home. Like when you have visitors,

[20:21] do your visitors come through the main

[20:22] entrance or through the garage too?

[20:24] >> Through the main entrance.

[20:25] >> Yeah, exactly. So there's a different

[20:27] chi flow. So you're separate. So then

[20:29] you separate your personal chi from the

[20:32] chi you're in relationship with in terms

[20:34] of friends and family and things like

[20:36] that. So you will just notice subtle

[20:37] differences there.

[20:39] >> It's yeah fascinating perspective. So I

[20:41] don't want to go too far down my own

[20:42] personal course. I thought it might be

[20:44] interesting for others as well.

[20:47] >> Interesting. And so, um, so what are the

[20:50] some of the things that you want to do

[20:51] to, I mean, I know you're going to do a

[20:53] bit of a guided process here so we can

[20:55] visualize, but what are some of the

[20:57] things that start to uplift and make

[20:59] that threshold uh, gateway sort of more

[21:02] aligned with

[21:04] >> I mean, I I kind I would love can we I

[21:06] would really love to go into that after

[21:08] people have had the chance to go into

[21:10] why don't we do that

[21:11] >> simply because otherwise I'm going to

[21:13] give too much away and people will be

[21:15] looking for that in the meditation.

[21:18] rather than getting that really clean

[21:19] field. And then we can talk about that

[21:21] afterwards. That would be wonderful.

[21:22] >> Let's go ahead and do it then and then

[21:24] we can talk a little bit more

[21:24] afterwards.

[21:26] >> So, I'm gonna lead you into this,

[21:28] Stephen, because I'd love you to do it

[21:29] with us just so that we can get a little

[21:31] bit more insight into your front door.

[21:33] [laughter]

[21:34] [gasps] So, I'm just going to invite you

[21:36] to close your eyes

[21:40] and just take three breaths in through

[21:42] the crown of the head and exhaling

[21:44] through the soles of the feet.

[21:49] Just coming into quiet, settled presence

[21:52] inside the body.

[21:56] And find yourself outside your home.

[22:00] You're up the street a little way in

[22:03] your neighborhood somewhere.

[22:07] And you're going to walk home as if for

[22:09] the very first time. You've never been

[22:11] to this house before. You know the way.

[22:14] You know the address.

[22:18] Take yourself back to that first moment.

[22:23] And just notice as you turn around now

[22:25] and start to walk back towards your

[22:27] home,

[22:30] how you're feeling about coming home.

[22:34] Just notice how you feel inside. Whether

[22:37] your stomach clenches or relaxes,

[22:40] shoulders lift or drop.

[22:44] Any thoughts about your neighborhood,

[22:47] the sounds, the smells of where your

[22:50] house is or home is situated.

[22:55] And as you approach your front door now,

[22:57] as if for the first time,

[23:00] just pause and look all around your

[23:03] front entrance.

[23:06] Is your home easy to find?

[23:11] Is the paintwork clean?

[23:15] Are there any plants around the front

[23:17] door? Are they alive and thriving?

[23:22] Any cracks?

[23:25] Working doorbell?

[23:30] And now just open the door.

[23:34] Walk inside your home, closing the door

[23:37] behind you. And just pause.

[23:41] How does it feel to be home?

[23:48] And if you could give that feeling now a

[23:50] number between 1 and 10. One being not

[23:53] so great, 10 being fabulous. First

[23:56] number,

[23:58] not the number you'd like it to be, but

[24:00] the number it actually is.

[24:05] And just pause and look around this

[24:07] entrance,

[24:09] this spell [music] you're casting on

[24:11] yourself every day.

[24:13] Just stay in the hallway, the entrance,

[24:15] and look around and just notice what's

[24:18] there. Coats and shoes, clutter, post,

[24:22] unopened.

[24:24] Is it dark or light? Cold or warm?

[24:31] And if there was one thing, just one

[24:34] thing

[24:37] that immediately

[24:39] your attention wishes to move right now.

[24:44] Something you'd like to change or add.

[24:46] Maybe add a light or clear some coats or

[24:51] shoes or

[24:53] a box out of the pathway. And in your

[24:56] mind,

[24:58] just do that now.

[25:00] Just clear or add or make that change

[25:04] that ever kept whatever came to mind in

[25:06] that moment

[25:12] and see the change complete.

[25:15] And now that you've made that change,

[25:18] just tune in briefly to that feeling

[25:20] [music] again.

[25:24] Now you've made that change and can see

[25:26] it. What number between one being not so

[25:29] great and 10 being fabulous would your

[25:32] house give you now.

[25:37] Just noticing if they're different

[25:40] and then thanking your house for its

[25:42] information and just wriggling your toes

[25:45] and fingers and coming back into this

[25:47] room with me now.

[25:51] So, welcome back everybody.

[25:54] And I hope that journey was [music]

[25:56] revelatory in some ways. And Stephen, I

[25:58] would love to ask you if you noticed any

[26:01] difference between those numbers or

[26:03] anything revealed itself to you in that

[26:05] little journey.

[26:06] >> Yeah. Well, I I mean, so I started our

[26:10] our entrance is quite grand. It's like

[26:12] and very beautiful. So we enter in and

[26:14] there's kind of like, you know, almost

[26:15] it's like a 20 foot high ceiling and on

[26:18] the other side and there's like it's all

[26:19] windows. So you're kind of looking out

[26:20] over this beautiful valley.

[26:22] So, it's it's very beautiful um in

[26:25] general, but what we have is like we've

[26:26] got kind of an overflowing rack of coats

[26:29] and shoes, a lot mostly the kids stuff.

[26:32] And um and so I'm always like I'm more

[26:35] averse to clutter and and so I was like

[26:38] I would just move that into the probably

[26:40] into the the pantry which has a bunch of

[26:42] u potential space for it. And uh and

[26:45] then I also just noticed there's like

[26:47] one originally as like a nursing chair.

[26:49] It's kind of like a rocking chair that's

[26:50] in the kind of living room sitting area

[26:52] that that sort of it's just not as nice

[26:55] as the rest of the things. And I was

[26:57] like, "Oh, get rid of that." And and um

[27:00] and just just generally just making

[27:02] everything in that first. There's a few

[27:04] things that have kind of gotten beaten

[27:05] beaten up by the kids over the

[27:06] [laughter] time.

[27:08] >> So it just sort of feels like it could

[27:10] go for I started more like an eight and

[27:11] that could some of those thing

[27:12] improvements would kind of go up. The

[27:15] one thing that was I also wasn't just

[27:16] sure about was we have these two like

[27:19] giant Balines statues that we got on our

[27:21] honeymoon. And one of them is sort of

[27:23] like this very tough kind of defender

[27:26] burly kind of and then the other one's

[27:28] kind of this delicate flowing um

[27:30] goddessy woman. And so and so they're on

[27:34] either side of the entrance and they

[27:36] weigh about three 400 lb each. And so we

[27:39] um you know we got those and I I think

[27:41] they're really cool but I also was like

[27:42] what does that do to the energy

[27:44] [laughter]

[27:45] >> and so and so I had a question mark

[27:47] around that. So first so the other

[27:49] changes seem like fairly easy but more

[27:51] of like a eight to a nine and then but

[27:53] there's like maybe something around

[27:54] those giant statues that that needs to

[27:57] >> one one of the and that actually brings

[27:59] on to something else which is slightly

[28:01] we'll go further into things like this

[28:03] in the course. The one thing with those

[28:05] two statues, in some ways, they're great

[28:07] because they're both the yin and the

[28:08] yang. They're the masculine and the

[28:10] feminine the way you describe them. So,

[28:12] you've got that heavy yang energy and

[28:13] then you've got that light beautiful yin

[28:15] energy, but they do not if you've got

[28:18] them either side of the door, you are

[28:20] splitting them

[28:22] >> and you are separating. So then what's

[28:24] the relationship between the two? So if

[28:27] you like and it's interesting that you

[28:29] brought them on your honeymoon and so it

[28:31] they're a symbol of the your marriage

[28:33] and your togetherness and the

[28:35] complimentary opposites that you and

[28:37] your wife are. So I would have those two

[28:40] statues. They can be near the front

[28:42] entrance but I'd have them in

[28:44] relationship to each other like so I see

[28:46] this you get this a lot

[28:48] >> almost like turn and look at each other

[28:49] a bit.

[28:49] >> Yeah. Like so even on the same side like

[28:52] and actually just do it in a different

[28:54] arrangement. So you see this on mantle

[28:57] pieces and people are always like they

[28:59] want to separate everything and then you

[29:01] find this splitting energy of they'll

[29:04] split them and have the two candlesticks

[29:06] on either side of the lamp, right? And

[29:08] actually if you do pairings on one end,

[29:11] they can be different objects, two pairs

[29:12] of candles, two statues of something

[29:14] else, you still get the symmetry, but

[29:16] then the two items are in relationship

[29:18] to each other and that brings more

[29:20] relationship and coherence within the

[29:23] home itself. Oh, that's

[29:25] >> I'm not saying that you're separate from

[29:27] your partner, but if you want to get

[29:29] more intimacy, then I would definitely

[29:31] bring those into relationship with one

[29:33] another. So, and the other thing that I

[29:36] feel, and this might be just something

[29:38] to reflect on, I'm sorry we are going to

[29:39] make this [laughter] personal now

[29:40] because you've given me too much

[29:42] information, Steve. It's great.

[29:43] >> We're down the rabbit hole now.

[29:45] [laughter]

[29:46] Um, but you talk about this wonderful

[29:49] grand entrance with this beautiful view

[29:51] over the valley, this wonderful

[29:53] entrance, and yet it's not the entrance

[29:54] you use. So, you don't entrance yourself

[29:57] with your own bought grandeur every day.

[30:00] You come in through the pantry.

[30:02] >> Yeah.

[30:03] >> Through the back door. It's almost like

[30:04] you It's like I wonder how much you own

[30:07] that grandeur.

[30:09] >> That's I think that's very very well

[30:11] put. I I would say that I can tend

[30:13] towards being a worker be at home and

[30:14] just like

[30:16] >> you know

[30:17] >> handling housework yard all that kind of

[30:20] rather than being

[30:21] >> stuff that takes place in the garage

[30:23] around the back and through the pantry.

[30:25] >> So maybe change by coming through your

[30:28] front grand entrance. It sounds

[30:30] >> I mean it's not the it's not the fastest

[30:32] way to get in and out but it is

[30:33] interesting in terms of the entrance

[30:35] effect of like sort of

[30:37] >> bringing in that sort of grandeur and

[30:39] >> Exactly. Yeah.

[30:41] >> And the view of the valley which sounds

[30:42] wonderful, sounds really great form

[30:44] funue. So when we're looking at our

[30:45] homes in terms of you asked before that

[30:48] um journey to explain um to viewers

[30:52] about what things so basically you want

[30:54] to be able to find your home. So is it

[30:56] well labeled? You know can you see the

[30:58] name or is it all covered over in plant

[31:01] material? Is there a working doorbell?

[31:03] Can opportunities reach you? Can you you

[31:05] know [clears throat] does the knocker

[31:06] work? Is it rusty or is it clean? Is the

[31:10] paintwork peeling? You know, all these

[31:11] very practical things really make a

[31:13] difference. Is there

[31:14] >> Yeah, we had we had we have very high

[31:15] ceilings and for a while I I just hadn't

[31:17] gotten to the co there was a bunch of

[31:18] cobwebs up there and so I finally got

[31:20] like a pressure washer to kind of knock

[31:22] those out of there.

[31:23] >> And so yeah, so all of those things make

[31:25] a difference

[31:26] >> and being able to open the door fully so

[31:28] there's nothing stuck behind it, no

[31:29] clutter behind the door. So your your

[31:32] intu intuitive sort of hit of I really

[31:35] want to move those coats and shoes

[31:37] especially where most of them aren't

[31:38] mostly probably used anymore if they're

[31:40] near the front door and you will use the

[31:42] back door right is um to clear those out

[31:45] of the way and make that clean and tidy

[31:48] and so there's a good flow because you

[31:50] want that entrance. You know this is the

[31:52] [snorts]

[31:53] inb breath and the outreath. You don't

[31:54] you can't breathe in fully if your nose

[31:56] is blocked or your mouth is blocked.

[31:58] It's the same thing. That front door,

[32:00] that entrance is the mouth of chi. It's

[32:02] where that first initial rush of the

[32:05] outside meets the inside. And that's so

[32:07] important.

[32:08] >> So, I'm really hoping that people will

[32:10] have got a genuine experience um as you

[32:13] did just in a few minutes of what the

[32:15] potential of understanding this um

[32:18] shamanic funue can give you.

[32:20] >> So, I imagine that each person got their

[32:23] own set of messages or insights. So is

[32:26] there are there ways to sort of think

[32:27] about prioritizing what's going to have

[32:29] the most beneficial effect or what do

[32:31] what do you do first because some things

[32:32] might be

[32:33] >> well depend more investment of time

[32:36] money.

[32:36] >> Yeah I mean obviously everything starts

[32:38] with intent. So what's your intention?

[32:41] So, if you're thinking of you're stuck

[32:43] in your life and there's like gosh, I've

[32:45] got no opportunities, um, not much is

[32:48] happening, doesn't seem much movement,

[32:50] everything seems a bit stuck, then I

[32:52] would definitely go to the front door

[32:54] and go, "Right, what can I move? What

[32:56] can I brighten up here? What can I

[32:58] rejuvenate? What can I clear out and get

[33:00] rid of? What can I fix that's broken?"

[33:02] That immediately is going to start the

[33:05] flow of opportunities coming in. it will

[33:07] start the increase because what we're

[33:10] always trying to do in a home and that's

[33:11] another thing that your home perhaps has

[33:14] a slight issue with is we're trying to

[33:17] encourage the sheni we talked about that

[33:19] earlier this wonderful nourishing

[33:20] beneficial chi to come in and circulate

[33:23] and chi has a number of different

[33:24] properties and ways of moving which as I

[33:27] say we'll go further into really

[33:28] understanding that during the course but

[33:31] it circulates and spirals around a space

[33:34] and it nourishes the inhabitants Now, if

[33:36] you open your front door and you're

[33:38] immediately looking out to the valley at

[33:39] the back, you may well be losing a lot

[33:41] of that chi because it's rushing through

[33:43] your house too fast.

[33:45] >> And it might be that those statues, I

[33:48] can't see the placement without seeing a

[33:49] photo or something like that, but it

[33:51] could well be that those statues you

[33:52] have are actually creating a slowing

[33:55] down of that cheese so that it gets to

[33:56] meander through other areas of the home

[33:59] without dissipating straight out of the

[34:01] back door. And that's one thing for

[34:03] people to really be aware of. What's the

[34:05] first thing when they open their front

[34:06] door? What's the first thing that I rest

[34:08] on? What's that? Because that's again

[34:11] another part of that spelling that's

[34:13] there every day. It's sort of telling

[34:16] you what you're focused on if you like.

[34:19] And noticing language.

[34:22] Um it's fascinating how people describe

[34:25] their homes. Like even you know like you

[34:27] know we often just say oh you know the

[34:30] rubbish in there. We you know we use it

[34:31] we have this in our language all the

[34:33] time. We say things about um like I was

[34:37] talking to somebody the other day and

[34:39] they described because I'd sent them

[34:41] something that I was doing for shift and

[34:43] like one of the bonuses and I just said,

[34:45] "Oh, have a look and see that." And they

[34:46] just said, "Oh my god, I've just come

[34:47] back and all my words that I use is

[34:50] dilapidated, old, tired, fed up.

[34:53] [laughter] I'm now going to have to go

[34:54] and paint everything and regenerate it."

[34:58] But they hadn't seen it until they saw

[35:00] it. And that is the beauty of this work.

[35:03] It gives you so many of those really big

[35:06] aha moments of being able to really see

[35:08] yourself very fully.

[35:10] >> So it sounds like also part of the way

[35:12] to approach it is this is a long time

[35:14] long-term energetic ROI because you do

[35:16] make the changes once and you're going

[35:17] to keep getting the benefits for years

[35:19] to come.

[35:19] >> Yeah, absolutely. You get a fantastic

[35:21] return of it. And the other thing, this

[35:22] is another thing that clients often say

[35:24] to me, "Oh, I had my fune done five

[35:26] years ago." It's just like, yeah, but

[35:28] chi is constantly moving. So for me

[35:31] shamanic funue apart from anything else

[35:34] it teaches us how to manage change

[35:37] >> because life is constantly mutating and

[35:40] our chi is constantly mutating and it

[35:42] will get stuck over time and clutter

[35:44] will accumulate because it does so this

[35:46] it can be but it's what I prefer is

[35:48] rather than the big enormous renovations

[35:51] it's the small daily funue that's what

[35:53] gets life to really flow and function

[35:55] well and that's what gets our lives to

[35:57] manifest so we get more of what we want

[35:59] and less of what we don't want because

[36:01] we have that daily flow and it could be

[36:03] a vase of flowers it could be just

[36:05] moving like for example I can give you I

[36:07] did it you see I do practice what I

[36:09] preach I did it for this call today

[36:11] because I'd had a very difficult couple

[36:14] of days my mom's not so well and I sort

[36:16] of wasn't quite in the head space and

[36:18] I'm like right I've got this call with

[36:20] Steven you know I really want to be able

[36:22] to talk about this is something I'm

[36:23] deeply passionate excited about so I

[36:25] thought I need to do a bit of funue for

[36:27] myself to kind of clear the fog of my

[36:29] mom and things like that. So I cleaned

[36:31] the windows off my room to get that new

[36:33] perspective because windows give us

[36:35] clarity. They give us a new view. They

[36:37] give us a fresh perspective. So just

[36:39] doing that changed my internal chi to be

[36:42] prepared for this. So these are the ways

[36:44] we can work with it really easily on a

[36:45] daily basis.

[36:47] >> I [clears throat] love that. I know you

[36:49] um we don't have time here to go into

[36:50] all the different rooms in the house,

[36:51] but maybe it might be helpful just have

[36:53] a little bit of a high level of like

[36:55] what are the different areas of the

[36:56] home, how are they affecting you

[36:58] energetically? And so so we start to

[37:00] like why working with different areas

[37:01] might have a different benefit.

[37:03] >> So we've talked about the mouth of chi

[37:06] that's the main entrance the flow coming

[37:08] in. So the hallways are like the

[37:09] arteries like the blood flow in the body

[37:11] there the arteries. So can the chi move

[37:14] through your home? Is there a natural

[37:15] flow or is it difficult or is it

[37:18] blocked? Are there doors that don't open

[37:19] clutter etc etc. So kitchen tends to be

[37:22] the heart of the home. It's where we get

[37:24] nourished and nurtured. So, does your

[37:26] kitchen look is there a place that you

[37:28] can eat as a family? Is um does it look

[37:31] healthy and hygienic? Is your back to

[37:34] the door like when you're cooking which

[37:36] makes you feel unsafe because you can't

[37:38] see who's coming in and then that in

[37:40] slight insecurity will go into the food

[37:42] things of that nature. Your living room

[37:44] is where you live. So, how is your

[37:47] living is that needs to be a little bit

[37:48] more yang. Is it very still and quiet in

[37:50] the room that's never used or only used

[37:52] for the best guests? Or do you actually

[37:54] entertain there? And is it lively and

[37:57] giving you that excitement of life? Our

[38:00] bedrooms are our most intimate

[38:02] expression. So, it's where we get rest

[38:04] and nurture and our intimate expression.

[38:07] So, I always like to think of um

[38:09] bedrooms a little bit sort of more like

[38:12] budoiresque, shall we say? That's always

[38:15] where you want to veer veer towards, not

[38:18] have the ironing board and the pile of

[38:19] ironing at the back or your office and

[38:22] your work desk. And then of course,

[38:24] bathrooms are those intimate spaces

[38:26] where we purify and cleanse. Um, so that

[38:30] kind of and the attic tends to be the

[38:32] future, the basement tends to be the

[38:34] past. So what are you keeping in your

[38:35] future and what are you not dealing with

[38:37] in your past for example?

[38:40] And what are some of the um so you have

[38:42] the the negative chi that can um sort of

[38:44] bog things down. What are some of the

[38:46] kind of highle things to kind of look

[38:47] out for in the house?

[38:48] >> Yeah. So I mean obviously we from the

[38:51] traumatic point of view going into the

[38:53] deeper land energies. It could be

[38:55] something actually to do with the land

[38:56] that needs shifting and that we need to

[38:58] go a little bit deeper in the course.

[39:01] just obvious things to look out for.

[39:03] Cracks, broken items, cobwebs, dark

[39:06] corners, um, light bulb, you know, like

[39:10] these are this is what I mean about

[39:12] chief. So, every day you come in, you go

[39:14] to switch the light, and of course, you

[39:16] haven't changed the bulb. And it's a

[39:18] really subtle little thing. This is this

[39:20] is the difference to how we have vital

[39:22] chi and lower chi. So each time I come

[39:25] in and I turn that switch and I've

[39:27] forgotten to change the light bulb, my

[39:28] chi just very subtly just drops a little

[39:30] bit. Oh damn. And you just lower your

[39:34] frequency a little bit. Well, you sort

[39:36] those things and you mend those little

[39:38] annoying things that you know where the

[39:40] latch doesn't quite fit or the door

[39:42] drawer doesn't quite open or you have to

[39:44] fight, you know, get those things fixed,

[39:46] things start to flow easier. It's these

[39:48] little things make a huge difference in

[39:50] in your [clears throat] relationship.

[39:52] really really great insights and I think

[39:54] it can all of us are just having

[39:56] different things spark of like oh yeah

[39:57] we we've got this big chandel or kind of

[39:59] a circular chandelier and it has like I

[40:02] don't know 40 bulbs in it and there's

[40:04] always ones dropping out and you have to

[40:06] kind of lower from the ceiling and get

[40:08] and so sometimes it's like three or four

[40:10] light bulbs back before it's changed and

[40:13] so it's just like oh interesting how

[40:15] that could be affecting things and so

[40:17] >> really really fascinating

[40:18] >> where where beams cut across thing like

[40:21] I went to um a house, a client that have

[40:24] got probate issue and literally walk in

[40:27] the front door, there's a beam that

[40:29] literally cuts the house in two and then

[40:31] the house has been designed so there are

[40:34] literally two parts to the house and

[40:36] they don't join and so it splits in two.

[40:39] The the relationship split up and of

[40:42] course they're really struggling to sell

[40:44] because it doesn't work for families

[40:45] because there's no kind of continuity of

[40:48] that home for example, things like that.

[40:50] this this you know this is that's why I

[40:52] love it. I get very passionate about it

[40:53] because it's like the gift that keeps on

[40:55] giving for me

[40:56] >> and I I have quite a sort of um

[40:59] >> I've just never got bored with funray or

[41:01] shaman. It's just like there is so much

[41:04] depth and richness and ongoing

[41:06] conversation and my real mission is just

[41:08] to teach people the language of this so

[41:11] they can do it for themselves forever

[41:12] because it I think we're living in very

[41:15] difficult times. I don't think anyone

[41:17] can sort [laughter] of ignore what's

[41:19] going out on the 3D world right now and

[41:22] it can be very destabilizing and

[41:24] disempowering at times. And when we work

[41:26] with the alchemy of our home, this this

[41:28] this place that is here and we really

[41:30] work with creating this ally and this

[41:32] responsive field of energy that we're in

[41:34] relationship with, it really allows us

[41:36] to take our power back.

[41:38] >> Love that.

[41:39] >> You know, encourages us to work with

[41:41] ourselves.

[41:43] >> I love that. Well, let's [clears throat]

[41:44] talk about your upcoming course in more

[41:46] detail because it's an amazing way to do

[41:47] that and really get this distillate of

[41:49] all the study that you've done and uh

[41:51] there's a beautiful way of illuminating

[41:53] the core patterns. So, um so Deina has

[41:56] agreed to teach this brand new course

[41:57] for shift. It's called shamanic funue.

[42:00] Read the energy, symbolism, and spirit

[42:02] of your space to create a home that

[42:04] supports who you're becoming. You can

[42:06] find it at the URL shamanic

[42:07] funuecourse.com.

[42:10] It's there's no requirement for any

[42:11] background with funue. She's going to

[42:13] teach you the foundations and really

[42:15] help create a transformation in your

[42:17] home life and your relationship, the

[42:18] alchemical relationship with your home.

[42:20] So, um, Bevina, I'd love for you to

[42:22] share some of your intentions for what

[42:24] people come away with and let's go

[42:25] through a tour of the modules.

[42:27] >> Yeah. So, my intention, um, is really,

[42:30] if I said is giving you a tool for

[42:32] transformation, giving you a tool to

[42:34] manage change. So, like, you know, we

[42:38] call it, don't we? We say home is where

[42:40] the heart is. So it's like look around.

[42:43] Is your heart fully reflected in your

[42:45] space that you live in?

[42:47] You know, and how can we really get your

[42:49] heart to be fully expressed in the space

[42:51] around you? It can help with any kind of

[42:54] low energy block, stuck, stagnation,

[42:58] anything of that nature is fantastic for

[43:00] increasing your vitality, increasing

[43:02] your energy, giving you your power,

[43:05] changing your relationship with form.

[43:07] And for me, I truly believe that we can

[43:10] change the world one home at a time when

[43:12] we really understand this relationship.

[43:15] >> Well, let's figure let's show how. So,

[43:17] module one goes into alchemy state one,

[43:19] nego the dark, embrace your home as a

[43:21] living ally.

[43:23] >> Yeah. So, what everybody will in their

[43:25] bonus materials have got the prima

[43:27] materia, which is a wonderful field

[43:29] guide, takes you through your house,

[43:30] asks you all the relevant questions. So,

[43:32] you come to the course fully armed with

[43:34] everything ready. And every good

[43:36] alchemist needs to look at the prima

[43:38] material. You got to look at the base

[43:39] metals. You got to look at the base

[43:41] ingredients. And the one thing about um

[43:44] fune for me over the years I've just

[43:46] noticed that a lot of it is about

[43:48] observation. Maybe this is not about you

[43:51] know hanging windchimes all over your

[43:53] house or sticking toads in the corner

[43:55] with coins in their mouth. It's the

[43:56] complete opposite of that. If for me

[43:59] funue should be felt not seen. It's

[44:01] about those subtle movements and it

[44:03] could just be the change of an angle or

[44:06] something that allows the flow or the

[44:08] moving of a space but we have to observe

[44:11] and we have to look at it first. So this

[44:13] first the negrado we've got to look and

[44:16] sometimes it's a bit tough to face that

[44:18] reality like because we've not looked at

[44:20] it in that way and then suddenly it's

[44:22] like oh god I'm going to really have to

[44:23] face that pile of clutter in the corner.

[44:25] Yeah, but I've been trying to pretend it

[44:28] doesn't exist or you know, as you say,

[44:30] the broken bulbs in the chandelier. I

[44:32] really don't want to have to lower it

[44:33] down and deal with that or whatever. So,

[44:35] there can be that's the shadow in that

[44:37] sense, but from what I see, it's like

[44:39] looking at where the shi is. Where have

[44:41] you got the weeds, the broken, the

[44:44] problems? What area of your life is in?

[44:46] We start to learn the language of how

[44:48] we're going to um work with the

[44:49] transformation. And we're also going to

[44:51] look at how your home sits within the

[44:55] armchair or the command position of its

[44:57] environment because that's super

[44:58] important.

[45:00] >> Module two, alchemy stage two,

[45:02] calcination, the fire. Understand the

[45:04] psychology and spirit of clutter to

[45:06] release what is no longer true.

[45:08] >> Yeah, I I absolutely love clutter or the

[45:10] or the disposal of it at least anyway.

[45:13] And I get people excited by clutter.

[45:15] you'll be absolutely desperate to get

[45:17] those bin bags out by the end of this

[45:19] module. Right? And it's because again,

[45:22] it's understanding the psychology of it

[45:24] because clutter is not an organizational

[45:27] problem or a you know high ADHD problem

[45:30] or a mismanagement problem or buying

[45:32] too. It's entirely psychologically

[45:35] psychological and it's really about is

[45:39] it safe to let go? And that is something

[45:42] different for everybody. We all have

[45:44] different levels of fears, different

[45:45] levels of insecurities. So, it's really

[45:48] understanding and the fire of

[45:50] transformation of understanding the

[45:52] psychology of the clutter we hold on to.

[45:54] And remember, one person's clutter is

[45:56] another person's gift. So, clutter is

[45:59] needs a definition which we go into and

[46:01] really define that and get down into the

[46:03] weeds so that it's an easy simple

[46:06] process to move through.

[46:08] >> I need you around my house. [laughter]

[46:11] Module three, alchemy stage three,

[46:14] dissolution, the flood. Embrace rooms as

[46:16] archetypes to read the story they're

[46:17] telling about who you are.

[46:19] >> Yeah, this is we touched on this a

[46:21] little bit, but we're going to go into

[46:22] it in a much deeper level. Because the

[46:24] dissolution, the flood is again what

[46:26] does your bedroom reflect about you?

[46:27] What does your living room reflect, your

[46:29] kitchen, your bathroom? All these

[46:30] different things like the in dream

[46:33] symbolism um if we dream of a home, it's

[46:35] the mansion of the soul. And all these

[46:38] different areas have different

[46:40] associations and different ways of

[46:42] working. We'll also now start to look at

[46:44] the Bagwo and which is the fune map of

[46:47] where what relates to your health and

[46:49] where that shows up in your home and

[46:51] what rooms and things of that. So, we're

[46:53] now getting into the more nittygritty

[46:55] detail of that um precision and language

[46:58] that's going to really bring this to

[46:59] life for you.

[47:01] >> Module four, alchemy stage four,

[47:03] separation. Explore the thresholds,

[47:06] centers and powerpoints of your home to

[47:07] reveal stagnation and empower your life.

[47:10] >> Yeah. So this is very much um we need to

[47:15] now really be create thresholds. We've

[47:17] talked a little bit just in terms of

[47:18] entrance but every threshold point right

[47:22] and we can use I love thresholds the

[47:24] these liinal spaces. They are absolutely

[47:27] manifestation

[47:29] miracle moments and we can use them very

[47:32] very powerfully. So we can be in a state

[47:35] and being in an unresourced state and

[47:37] literally as I walk through this door

[47:38] I'm going to grow more. All sorts of

[47:41] things of this nature that we learn.

[47:43] Where is the powerpoint in your home?

[47:44] Where's the powerpoint in every room?

[47:46] Where's the focal point? What's the

[47:48] command position? How is your bed place

[47:50] for the best sleep? Is your office set

[47:52] up optimally? You know, how are you

[47:54] receiving visitors? All of these issues

[47:56] that we're really going to look at in

[47:57] that detailed way so that you learn the

[48:00] rules of how to be more empowered in the

[48:05] way that you articulate and are in

[48:07] relationship with your environment.

[48:09] [clears throat]

[48:09] >> Love it. Module five, alchemy stage

[48:12] five, conjunction. Harmonize your space

[48:14] and life through objects in symbolic

[48:16] placement.

[48:17] >> Yeah, this is where we get down into

[48:19] what is that object actually saying? You

[48:22] know, like you're maybe not getting on

[48:24] so well with your partner and then the

[48:26] picture at the end of your bed that you

[48:28] wake up every day is two ferocious

[48:31] tigers maybe tearing each other's throat

[48:33] out on a safari or something of that

[48:35] nature or a couple of extinct dinosaurs

[48:37] that you thought were great when you

[48:38] bought them. But you know what are they

[48:39] symbolizing and that's the first thing

[48:41] you see every morning when you wake up.

[48:43] It's really looking at what the art of

[48:46] placement, what are the colors you're

[48:47] using, what are the shapes. We're also

[48:49] going to go more into the five elements

[48:52] um in the Chinese things of how wood and

[48:54] metal and earth and fire all and water

[48:58] all work together and how we actually

[49:01] actualize those in the shape of our

[49:03] furniture in the colors we use in the

[49:06] objects that we place the lighting

[49:07] whether it's up lighting down lighting

[49:10] what you do with beams what you do with

[49:12] um difficult placements basically like

[49:16] if you're at the end of a T junction so

[49:18] you've got a lot of yang energy. What

[49:19] can you do to sort of help remedy that?

[49:21] So, we'll look at remedies within that

[49:23] module as well.

[49:25] >> Module six, alchemy stage six,

[49:27] fermentation, the quickening. Release

[49:30] old paradigms and anchor change through

[49:32] ritual resetting and repatterning your

[49:34] home.

[49:36] >> Yeah. So, for me, this brings in more of

[49:37] that shamanic element. I mean, all of it

[49:39] will bring in shamanic elements

[49:41] throughout the entire course, but for

[49:43] me, intention will change things. moving

[49:46] something will change something but

[49:48] ritual embodies it so that it's an

[49:51] ongoing life process and the ritual and

[49:55] the repatterning and literally learning

[49:57] to space clear also so that you could so

[49:59] if you've had like you might have funed

[50:01] your home to perfection in your eyes and

[50:03] then you have an argument and it upsets

[50:06] the energy so what do you do with that

[50:08] so during this module there's going to

[50:09] be lots of ways to limpia your home

[50:12] clear your home change the energy how

[50:15] you let the winds of change come working

[50:17] with the elements to rebalance it

[50:19] getting those earth energies really

[50:20] working with you getting more into that

[50:22] deep relationship through the rituals.

[50:25] >> Amazing module seven alchemy stage seven

[50:28] rubo the gold create a personal practice

[50:31] for a lifelong evolving relationship

[50:33] with your home

[50:34] >> which is exactly that basically Stephen

[50:36] it is finding that final goal because I

[50:39] want people to take this information way

[50:41] beyond these seven weeks because that's

[50:44] the real power of it. It's I I want to

[50:46] convey and teach a language and a way of

[50:49] viewing their homes that they will

[50:51] nobody will ever lose and they'll always

[50:53] feel empowered to be able to change the

[50:55] space. That's what it does. It gives you

[50:56] that personal empowerment. I think that

[50:58] is the greatest nugget. You're never

[51:00] lost for something to do. If you get

[51:02] stuck, you're going right, what can I

[51:04] shift? What needs moving? What what what

[51:06] am I where am I blocking myself? Where

[51:08] have I got to look to see how I can

[51:10] change this?

[51:12] It's a very empowering process and that

[51:14] really brings it all together and we get

[51:17] this and giving th those um ways of

[51:20] those uh processes for ongoing and what

[51:23] you can do on a weekly, monthly, yearly

[51:25] basis to keep the shifts going.

[51:28] >> Well, [snorts] what a uniquely

[51:29] empowering program. I personally am just

[51:31] fascinated by this and particularly like

[51:33] bringing the sort of the language and

[51:34] the intelligence of funue together with

[51:36] some of the shamatic perspectives on how

[51:38] this really becomes an inner alchemy

[51:40] with you and your home. Really cool

[51:42] Deina. So I'll share a little bit more

[51:44] about the practical. Again, it's at uh

[51:46] the elements of of the course. So

[51:48] there's seven 90-minute live sessions

[51:50] with Deina which includes time to do

[51:52] practices together. There's Q&A time.

[51:54] You also get recordings of every session

[51:56] so you can go back video and audio as

[51:58] well as transcripts. There are weekly

[52:00] practices and things you can do at your

[52:02] in your home every single week. Uh

[52:04] there's community group to support you

[52:06] and deepen your experience and also

[52:08] share your wins, insights, things that

[52:10] uh come up for you in the course.

[52:12] There'll also be small group time to

[52:14] connect with other participants. So

[52:16] again, there's more detail on all the

[52:18] modules at shamanicfueecourse.com.

[52:21] And uh and so in addition to those seven

[52:23] uh 90-minute modules, there's also going

[52:25] to be several bonuses that Deina has

[52:27] been generous in adding, there's a

[52:29] digital workbook and intro video called

[52:31] the Alchemy of Home Field Guide, a

[52:33] complete survey of the home you live in.

[52:35] Now, want to share more about that

[52:36] bonus?

[52:38] >> Um yes, this is the premium material um

[52:41] one. So that's going to give you it's a

[52:43] huge document, but it really takes you

[52:45] through asking questions. There's um

[52:48] periods of inquiry. It asks you very odd

[52:51] specific questions that will come out um

[52:54] in the course of really understanding

[52:56] what that language but making you look

[52:57] at your home with new eyes and really

[53:00] noticing what you will have walked past

[53:02] a hundred times and not seen before.

[53:05] >> That's bonus one. Then there's a second

[53:07] bonus. It's a PDF program and audio

[53:09] meditation. It's called the clutter

[53:11] clearing program. A complete practical

[53:13] method for releasing what you no longer

[53:14] love, use or need.

[53:17] In the course, we're talking about the

[53:18] psychology, but there's great practical

[53:22] strategies for clearing. So, once you

[53:24] understand the psychology and you're

[53:26] ready to let it go, this bonus will

[53:28] really come into its own because it will

[53:29] give you all the clearing strategies

[53:31] that really work to actually be able to

[53:33] let go of that clutter once and for all.

[53:37] >> Very cool. And then I love the last

[53:39] bonus, which is our special bonus for

[53:40] whoever signs up by midnight tonight,

[53:42] Pacific time. This is actually a video

[53:44] conversation with Deina and Puma um who

[53:47] we mentioned earlier who's the uh

[53:49] Peruvian shaman that we work with very

[53:51] extensively. It's called the spirits of

[53:53] place. Want to share more about that

[53:55] bonus with you and Puma?

[53:56] >> Yeah. Well, Puma and I have many because

[53:58] I I I mean, as I say, I've known Puma

[54:00] for a very long time and love him dearly

[54:02] and we have great conversations about

[54:04] all sorts of things. And, you know, I I

[54:06] love Puma because we we love to um agree

[54:09] and disagree at times on our different

[54:11] ways of perceiving nature, the universe,

[54:14] and everything. So, we're really talking

[54:15] about the different European um ways of

[54:19] seeing power of place as opposed to the

[54:21] Peruvian ways and where the correlations

[54:23] and the differences exist. It's a good

[54:25] conversation.

[54:27] >> Well, it's clearly going to be such an

[54:28] amazing program. I'm really excited to

[54:30] learn more and uh we've kept the

[54:32] investment very accessible. It's just

[54:34] three payments of $128 or you can save

[54:37] 10% when you pay in full with one

[54:38] payment of 3.49. The course is going to

[54:41] start October 27th and run Tuesdays at

[54:44] 9:00 a.m. Pacific, noon Eastern. And

[54:46] that works well for England and and uh

[54:48] Europe as well. And so, but even if you

[54:50] can't make those live times, you can

[54:52] still get the the value with the

[54:54] recordings, the transcripts, and the

[54:55] community. There's some great

[54:57] testimonials on the page about Deina's

[55:00] work. Her work goes far beyond the

[55:01] physical space. It it opens a depth of

[55:03] awareness. It supports real lasting

[55:05] change. Wisdom has guided me both

[55:07] personally and in my business. Amazing

[55:09] healer and gifted persons. There's some

[55:10] great testimonials about Dvina. And so

[55:12] you're in really good hands and you're

[55:14] going to get this powerful synthesis of

[55:17] funue and shamanic work and fused into

[55:20] how you can really have your home be an

[55:23] alchemical vessel for birthing you on

[55:25] the next level. So let's um so again

[55:29] it's all at uh shamanicfuncourse.com

[55:33] shamanicfuncourse.com

[55:35] and you get the special bonus with Deina

[55:37] and Puma when you sign up by midnight.

[55:40] So Deina, it's this truly been a

[55:43] fascinating hour. I've really loved it

[55:44] and I'm I'm thank you for the extra

[55:46] insights into my own particular home and

[55:48] I know others have feel blessed by

[55:50] today. So anything that's still on your

[55:51] heart that you want to share with folks

[55:52] who are considering doing the full

[55:54] course?

[55:55] I I just really my deep passion for

[56:00] sharing this and knowing that anyone

[56:04] that joins who is in any way feeling

[56:07] that their life is less than optimal

[56:10] right now will benefit from really

[56:13] learning this very intimate relationship

[56:15] with their land spirits with this new

[56:18] relationship with their home because it

[56:20] will give them a new relationship with

[56:21] their heart.

[56:23] I can't wait. [laughter]

[56:25] >> Love that. Well, great to meet you,

[56:27] Deina, and thank you so much for sharing

[56:28] your wisdom and insights. And thank you

[56:30] all for joining and look forward to see

[56:32] many of you in Deina's upcoming course,

[56:33] which again is at shamanicfuncourse.com

[56:36] and it's called shamanic funue. Read the

[56:39] energy, symbolism, and spirit of your

[56:41] space to create a home that supports who

[56:43] you're becoming.

[56:45] >> Thank you, Stephen. It's been an

[56:46] absolute pleasure, and I'm very much

[56:48] looking forward to teaching the course.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Shamanic feng shui combines the traditional Chinese practice of arranging space with a shamanic lens that treats the home as a responsive energy field in relationship with the person living there. In the livestream, Davina MacKail describes the home as a mirror of a person's unconscious self and uses experiential practices, not only classical rules, to read it.
In this teaching, the mouth of qi refers to the threshold, especially the front door, where energy enters and leaves a home. MacKail built a guided journey called 'The Arrival — A Journey to the Mouth of Qi' around this idea, asking participants to meet their home's energy at its entrance.
MacKail treats clutter, worn objects and peeling surfaces as signals of stalled or tired energy rather than moral failings. Clearing them is presented as a way to restore flow, and she linked physical clearing to a corresponding opening of inner space in a meditation she introduced during the hour.
No, according to MacKail. She said that people often assume they must do enormous renovations, but many shifts can be made simply by moving objects, clearing a corner, or repairing one surface. The aim is responsiveness rather than perfection.
MacKail suggests paying attention to your body as you enter a space. Noticing whether your stomach clenches or relaxes gives you a bodily reading of how the room meets you. Because she calls the body the first temple, she treats these physical signals as an early measure of whether a space supports you.
She describes them as two languages that converge from different perspectives into the same conversation. Her own path moved from feng shui training in the UK, which she began after reading a magazine article, to years of Andean plant medicine apprenticeships with Peruvian teachers.
She links her shamanic path to a near-death experience of severe altitude sickness while hitchhiking to Tibet around her Saturn return at 28. She describes it as an unlooked-for initiation, and says her understanding of life shifted from that point on.
