Shamanic Journey
Description
The Shamanic Journey is a weekend shamanic course offered in person at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, California, and by live stream for those who join from elsewhere. It is taught through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a school for consciousness studies, and led by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D. It suits people who want to study shamanic practice within an established school, whether they can come to the East Bay or prefer to take part from home.
What to Expect
The course runs over two consecutive days, a Saturday and a Sunday, with each day running from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Foundation of the Sacred Stream offers the course several times a year, and the same weekend format is used each time.
Those who attend in person gather at the Sacred Stream Center. Live stream participants join by video conference at the same set times and take part in the class as it happens, rather than watching a recording. The Foundation also teaches a hybrid version of The Shamanic Journey at other times of the year, with pre-recorded video lectures combined with live video meetings. This listing is the in-person and live stream weekend.
About Isa Gucciardi
Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., is the Founding Director of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a non-profit school for consciousness studies in Berkeley, founded in 2002. She is the creator of Depth Hypnosis, a therapeutic model, and the author of Coming to Peace.
Her work grew from an early concern with death and grief. She spent most of her early years in other countries before moving to the United States as a teenager, and she was struck by how little people around her wanted to talk about death. Reading Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's On Death and Dying in the early seventies came as a relief. Years of volunteering in hospice settings, including the Zen Hospice Project, led her to a view she still holds: everyone grieves in their own way, and the most helpful thing is often to sit quietly and offer a non-judgmental space.
The Setting
The Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley is the home of the Foundation's in-person teaching. It also hosts the school's other gatherings, such as drum circles at the solstices and equinoxes, sound healing meditations and longer trainings. For students who cannot travel, the live stream carries the weekend to wherever they are.
