Kirtan with Jaya Lakshmi and Mx Puja Singh

Jaya Lakshmi began leading kirtan and writing devotional songs on the guitar, harmonium and piano in the early 1990′s shortly after receiving harinam initiation from Srila Govinda Maharaj, a spiritual teacher of bhakti (devotion) from West Bengal, India. As a singer/songwriter she is known for her authentic and deep devotional spirit as well as playing an important part in establishing kirtan and mantra music in the west. Her angelic voice and loving presence opens the heart in a way that brings the listener into a state of harmony and bliss.

She was a founding member of the groundbreaking tribal-trance band Lost at Last and toured with them for years before going on to record her kirtan and mantra music as a solo artist on Sequoia Records. Later she collaborated with Ananda Das on albums for Sounds True and Spirit Voyage. She has also been active in combining Kirtan and mantra with Electronic Dance Music, a synthesis she calls Kirtronica. https://jayalakshmimusic.com/home

Mx Puja Singh aka Puja Singh Titchkosky (they/them) is a queer, nonbinary trans, Indian Canadian, singer, songwriter, producer and yoga/meditation/music teacher based in Los Angeles, California (born in Vancouver, BC). Their work focuses on helping people tune into the power of the universe, slow down, practice presence and find their unique voice in order to more fully and joyfully express themselves in any and all areas of their life.

Coming from an Indian background (Punjabi Sikh) and being deeply in love with India from a young age, Puja is constantly learning more about their own lineage and the practices and traditions that come from this beautiful land and culture. They practice/teach Kirtan (Indian devotional singing) and study Indian classical music (rāga sangīt) with Sri Subhashish Mukhopadyay (a topmost exponent of the kotali gharana). *Mx (pronounced mix) is a gender neutral prefix used in the same way as Ms, Mrs or Mr. https://www.mxpujasingh.com/

We regret that Girish, previously announced as an artist for this date, will unable to perform. A family member is seriously ill and needs his care and attention. We look forward to scheduling a concert with Girish in Los Angeles in 2025.
