Spiritual Gathering
Description
The Spring Equinox Drum Circle is a one-hour spiritual gathering at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, California, held in the early evening to mark the turning of the season. It is offered both in person and by live stream, so people in the Berkeley and San Francisco Bay Area can sit together in the room, and others can take part from wherever they are.
The center is the home of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a non-profit school for consciousness studies founded in 2002 by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D. The drum circle is one of a yearly cycle of seasonal gatherings there, with a circle for each solstice and equinox, and it suits anyone drawn to shamanic drumming, community ritual, or marking the turn of the year with others.
What to Expect
The circle runs from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. As an equinox gathering, it belongs to the time of year when day and night are in balance, and the hour is shaped around that moment of the wheel of the year.
You can take part in two ways: in person at the Sacred Stream Center, or live by video from home. The same hour is shared across both.
About Isa Gucciardi
Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., is the Founding Director of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, the non-profit school for consciousness studies in Berkeley that she started in 2002. She is the creator of Depth Hypnosis, a therapeutic model, and the author of Coming to Peace.
Her path into this work began early. She spent most of her early years in other countries before moving to the United States as a teenager, and she was struck by how little people around her wanted to talk about death. Reading Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's On Death and Dying in the early seventies came as a relief. Years of volunteering in hospice settings, including the Zen Hospice Project, led her to a view she still holds: everyone grieves in their own way, and the most helpful thing is often to sit quietly and offer a non-judgmental space.
The Setting
The in-person circle takes place at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, California, the foundation's home for workshops, trainings and seasonal gatherings. Those who join online do so through the live stream.
Before You Go
Because the circle is offered both in person and live stream, you can choose whichever suits you. Registering brings an automatically generated confirmation email with further information. If it does not arrive, check your spam or junk folder. Class and event times can occasionally change because of unforeseen circumstances, so it is worth reading that confirmation carefully.
