Meditation Retreat
Description
A New Year's meditation retreat at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, California, offered both in person and by live stream. It is a single morning-into-afternoon session, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, for anyone who would like to begin the year with a few hours of meditation, whether in the room or from home. The center is the home of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, founded by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D.
What to Expect
The retreat runs three hours, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, which makes it easy to fit around a holiday weekend. It is a meditation retreat held at the start of the new year, and you can choose how to take part: come to the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, or tune in by live stream.
In the Sacred Stream's live stream format, the session is taught live by video conference. Participants join at the set time, so those online are with the teacher and the group as it happens, not watching a recording.
About Isa Gucciardi
Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., is the Founding Director of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a non-profit school for consciousness studies in Berkeley that she founded in 2002. She created Depth Hypnosis, a therapeutic model, and wrote the book Coming to Peace.
Her path into this work began early. She spent most of her early years in other countries before moving to the United States as a teenager, and she was struck by how little people around her wanted to talk about death. Reading Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's On Death and Dying in the early seventies came as a relief. Years of volunteering in hospice settings, including the Zen Hospice Project, led her to a view she still holds: everyone grieves in their own way, and the most helpful thing is often to sit quietly and offer a non-judgmental space.
The Setting
The in-person gathering takes place at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley, California, the center of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream's teaching and community life. Those joining remotely can do so from anywhere with a video connection.
