Where This Album Sits in Malte Marten's Arc

Malte Marten describes himself as a handpan player at his core. His path began in 2014 with a video of the duo Hang Massive, after which he sold the beatmaking and DJ equipment he owned to buy his first handpan. He played on the streets of Berlin, toured from 2015 to 2020 with his former duo Yatao, and began his solo project in 2021.

Healing Frequencies 2 was released on November 11, 2025, and it is the most ambitious release in his catalogue: thirty tracks, set against the eight of Path to Inner Peace and the twelve of Roots of Hope. It arrived in a year crowded with frequency-tagged singles, and it sits two weeks before Venturis, his most recent album. Think of it less as a statement piece and more as a long room he has built for you to stay in.

Sonic Character

The handpan carries nearly everything here. The materials list no other instruments or vocalists on his releases, so this is a handpan-centred record rather than a band or ensemble arrangement. Expect round, resonant tones, long sustains and gradual shifts rather than melodic hooks or verse-chorus structures.

Pacing is slow and deliberate. His background as a beatmaker and DJ may explain the rhythmic patience that feels built rather than improvised: the patterns hold steady while the feeling moves around them. The mood is contemplative, in line with how his YouTube channel describes the music: music to relax and release. Stillness, not display, is the organising idea.

With thirty tracks, the album works as an environment more than a sequence of events. That is its strength for long sessions and its risk for anyone who wants varied song structures.

Tracks and Listening Strategy

I am not going to name individual tracks from this album, because the available materials do not list its track titles, and a guide that guessed would mislead you. What can be said honestly is how to approach thirty tracks of this kind.

Start at the beginning and let one stretch run. The album is built for continuity, so the first several tracks will tell you whether its pace suits you.

Notice the frequency-style framing. His catalogue leans on titles tagged 777 Hz, 999 Hz and 1111 Hz, and this album's name belongs to that family. It is a stylistic choice, and the clearest signature of his output. Treat the labels as an invitation to a mood, not as scientific claims.

Listen for the small changes. Where the music offers no hook, the interest lives in shifts of register, density and rhythmic emphasis. Those are the moments that land.

If you want a shorter test of the same mood before committing, the single Healing Frequency (999 Hz) is a one-track listen, and Calm Whispers (999 Hz), released May 23, 2025, suggests a quieter, more inward character.

Place in Its Tradition

The materials name no formal tradition for Malte Marten, and this guide assigns none. The most accurate frame is the modern handpan lineage that begins with the Hang, the instrument whose video set his path in motion. Within it he works as a player-teacher: the Yatao duo co-founded the YataoShop for people taking their first steps with the instrument, and workshops and retreats grew from it.

His teaching, the Malte Marten Method, centres on accessing deep feelings and expressing them musically rather than only playing notes. He says he teaches from experience, not from rules. That makes his lineage personal and practice-based rather than doctrinal, and Healing Frequencies 2 reflects it: it is music made for feeling, not for demonstrating technique.

Who This Lands Hardest For

This album rewards listeners who already know what the handpan sounds like in his hands. It suits someone who wants a long, uninterrupted stretch of calm: a person winding down after a hard stretch, someone seeking rest, or someone who needs an unobtrusive sound while working or reflecting. He has said that what moves him most is hearing that his music helped people through personal challenges and brought clarity, and this is the record that best fits that purpose.

It is not for everyone. Listeners wanting high-BPM electronic music, driving grooves or dance-floor energy will find it too slow and open-ended. Those who prefer varied song structures may find thirty tracks repetitive. And anyone who expects the frequency labels to be scientifically verified may find the framing overstated.

If you are new to him, begin with Path to Inner Peace, an eight-track album that gives a clear picture of his sound in one sitting, then move to Roots of Hope. Come to this one when the sound is familiar.

A Close Listening Recommendation

Play it in the evening, with nothing else competing for your attention. Headphones will bring out the sustain and decay of each tone, which is where much of the detail lives. Give the first ten minutes without checking your phone, and let the pacing reset your own.

Because it runs thirty tracks, you do not need to hear it in one go. Treat it as a long session when you have time, or dip in for shorter stretches. For meditation, rest or a cooldown, the slow tempo is a natural fit. The materials do not designate any tracks for yoga or ceremony, so any ritual pairing is your own reading; if you plan to build a practice around it, check his guidance first.

You can find the album on Spotify and Apple Music, and his site, maltemarten.com, lists his courses and retreats.
