Dr. Angele Close is a licensed clinical psychologist, Certified IFS Therapist, accredited motherhood coach and certified mindfulness meditation teacher. She also facilitates circles, and she is a mother of three. Her mindfulness certification came through Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield's two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program, and her coaching accreditation through the Mama Rising® Coaching Program.
For more than a decade she has helped women identify the blocks that keep them playing small, fearful and people-pleasing to the point of resentment and self-doubt. She has worked as a clinical psychologist in college counseling centers, family health teams and private practice. Her training includes Emotion-Focused Therapy and mindfulness-based, trauma-informed treatment. Her work is now deeply guided by Internal Family Systems (IFS), and she has worked directly with its creator, Dr. Richard Schwartz. She says she only invites clients to try exercises she has personally experienced and tested.
Angele holds a double honors degree in Psychology and Women's Studies from Carleton University, a master's in Counseling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, awarded in 2014.
Her focus is mothers who struggle with guilt, overwhelm, self-blame and silent resentment. She draws on matrescence, the transformation of identity that comes with becoming a mother, and on IFS as a map for understanding and healing. Her book, Unburdening Motherhood, is a step-by-step guide to the IFS healing process for moms. Her guided meditations are short practices meant to help busy mothers reset and breathe. On Insight Timer she describes her teaching as centered on nervous system regulation, softening self-criticism, and understanding the protective parts shaped by stress and past experience, through mindfulness, self-compassion and gentle emotional processing.
Worth Knowing
Dr. Angele Close is a clinical psychologist, Certified IFS Therapist, motherhood coach, and mindfulness meditation teacher whose work speaks directly to mothers navigating guilt, overwhelm, self-blame, and silent resentment in their daily lives. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and training in trauma-informed, mindfulness-based treatment, she brings clinical rigor to maternal psychology—moving beyond vague inspirational language to offer specific tools grounded in neuroscience and therapeutic lineage. Her 6 million Spotify followers and active presence on Insight Timer reflect a growing audience recognizing that motherhood's psychological burden deserves the same clinical attention we'd give any mental health crisis. Students and mothers seek her out because she doesn't frame motherhood as a spiritual awakening divorced from struggle; instead, she maps the protective mechanisms that unconsciously drive guilt and resentment, then offers practices to regulate the nervous system and soften the self-criticism that keeps mothers bound. She is the author of "Unburdening Motherhood," a step-by-step guide to using Internal Family Systems for maternal healing, and her guided meditations on platforms like Insight Timer are designed as practical resets for busy mothers—short, secular, and focused on actual nervous system regulation rather than aspirational transformation narratives.
