[0:01] Hi everybody. Thank you all so much for
[0:04] being here. It's um it's a really big
[0:08] honor to be here with y'all and I
[0:13] haven't actually had
[0:15] uh a lot of opportunity to participate
[0:19] with y'all this summer because I've been
[0:22] having a lot of house guests,
[0:26] which has been good, but it's also been
[0:28] exhausting because I've been um
[0:32] I've been hosting and there's just been
[0:34] a lot of big changes in our um the
[0:38] dynamics of our household.
[0:41] I've still been keeping up on my
[0:43] personal practice. I just haven't been
[0:45] able to participate with y'all and I've
[0:47] missed you all very very much.
[0:50] My name is Tempe Lundrobe,
[0:55] which I got that name from Garchin
[0:58] Rimpushe. So my name is actually Kchak
[1:01] Tempe Lundrub which means spontaneously
[1:06] accomplished the medicine of the three
[1:09] jewels which sounds real fancy but I'm
[1:13] just the I'm just uh like anyone of
[1:16] anybody else.
[1:19] My pronouns are he, they, and I am on
[1:24] the ancestral grounds of the Squawksen
[1:29] Island people and the Nquali people
[1:34] here in Olympia, Washington.
[1:38] I've been practicing medicine Buddha
[1:43] for a long time. I can't tell you
[1:46] honestly how many years I've been
[1:49] practicing this, but it's been uh close
[1:53] to
[1:54] 20.
[1:56] I've been participating in the with
[1:58] llama for the last four years as much as
[2:02] I can.
[2:05] One of the things that I love about the
[2:08] medicine Buddha practice is the mantra
[2:11] itself.
[2:13] When we get into
[2:16] doing the actual medicine Buddha
[2:18] practice,
[2:19] we're going to use the language
[2:22] of the mantra in Tibetan and we're going
[2:26] to say be
[2:29] three times [laughter]
[2:32] and that's a that's actually a pretty
[2:35] big deal, right?
[2:38] So my my journey into
[2:41] dharma
[2:44] came
[2:46] as a result of
[2:49] being very unwell. I was very sick and I
[2:53] was struggling with a lot of
[2:55] unhousedness.
[2:59] I was unhoused for nine years and I had
[3:02] a lot of untreated mental health
[3:05] obstacles and untreated substance use
[3:09] disorder.
[3:12] And as a result of that, I fell into a
[3:16] variety of dark places.
[3:21] When I was able to eventually
[3:26] attain some sense of sobriety, it was
[3:29] due to the support that I found in a
[3:33] 12step community.
[3:36] And that 12step community
[3:40] taught me a very simple
[3:43] concept
[3:45] that if I stayed in this triangle
[3:49] of recovery, unity, and service,
[3:54] I would be able to get 24 hours sober.
[3:58] But if I left that triangle, my chances
[4:00] of relapsing would be very large. So I
[4:04] did everything I could to stay in this
[4:06] triangle.
[4:09] And as a result of that, I had a
[4:12] spiritual experience
[4:14] where I I realized that to recover means
[4:18] to return to our natural state and our
[4:21] natural state is the Buddha.
[4:24] And so actually happens to be our
[4:27] natural state also. Sobriety,
[4:32] the Buddha and recovery have a lot in
[4:35] common. There's a lot of overlap.
[4:38] And that the dharma teaches that there
[4:40] is a a co-emergence of all phenomena.
[4:44] That everything's connected. Nothing
[4:46] exists independently from everything
[4:48] else. Everything's united.
[4:52] So we have Buddha and Dharma as recovery
[4:56] and unity.
[4:58] And then the song
[5:02] which is all beings without exception
[5:06] to whom we are of service to. So we have
[5:10] recovery, unity and service
[5:13] as the three jewels.
[5:16] So I stayed in this refuge right to
[5:20] become a Buddhist. The difference
[5:22] between Buddhists and non Buddhists is
[5:24] that Buddhists take refuge vows. I am a
[5:27] Buddhist. So I took refuge vows in the
[5:30] three jewels. I take refuge in the three
[5:32] jewels. But before I took refuge in the
[5:35] three jewels, I took refuge in the
[5:39] triangle
[5:41] thousands of times a day so that I could
[5:43] get 24 hours sober.
[5:47] And what I what I experienced was that
[5:50] the the Buddha is inside of all of us,
[5:53] right? Our true nature, our natural
[5:55] state is inside of all of us. It's in
[5:58] our heart center. It lives there. It's
[6:00] like a cave that it meditates in all the
[6:03] time. It never leaves.
[6:06] So the Buddha is in our is in our
[6:09] hearts, right? In our minds. It is our
[6:14] mind.
[6:15] And the dharma
[6:19] is the truth, right? It's the unity of
[6:22] all things. So if we speak truth, if we
[6:26] speak what unites us, then we speak
[6:30] dharma.
[6:31] We have wise speech. And the song
[6:36] the song are reflections. We're all
[6:40] reflections of each other. So it has
[6:42] this this bodily component in our head
[6:48] where we reflect off of each other, good
[6:51] and bad.
[6:54] So I
[6:56] I started to recognize not only the
[6:59] overlap between the three jewels and the
[7:01] triangle of recovery, unity and service,
[7:06] but then I started to use the mantra of
[7:09] medicine Buddha to actually remove the
[7:12] obstacles that inhibited me from
[7:17] having clarity
[7:20] in my own heart, in my own throat, and
[7:23] in my own body.
[7:26] So with each bacon day, I would just
[7:28] release whatever it was that was
[7:31] obstructing me from having clarity in my
[7:36] in my heart, in my throat, and in my
[7:38] head. Right?
[7:40] And there's there's a really big part of
[7:43] 12step recovery where we surrender to
[7:48] God.
[7:50] And and a lot of people get caught up on
[7:52] that
[7:54] and I want to just explain it like this
[7:57] in the language of Buddhism or or a
[8:00] language of Buddhism. If I am giving my
[8:05] if I'm holding on to things internally,
[8:08] this is what I think I know. This is
[8:10] these are my emotions. I'm holding on to
[8:12] them, right?
[8:15] And this is my external world. This is
[8:18] uh my car, my my clothes, my um
[8:22] apartment, whatever, right? This is my
[8:24] external world, internal and external.
[8:27] If I surrender it to God, right? That's
[8:32] one way of of becoming non-attached to
[8:35] things. Now, I'm no longer grasping
[8:37] because I just gave it away. Or I can
[8:40] simply practice non-attachment
[8:44] and I can just let go. I don't have to
[8:47] let go to anything. I don't have to box
[8:49] this up. I don't have to put it in a
[8:51] container. I don't have to label it with
[8:53] words. I don't have to do anything other
[8:55] than just let go. Either way, it yields
[8:58] the exact same result. So, if I
[9:02] surrender to something or if I simply
[9:07] practice non-attachment,
[9:10] I yield the exact same result. And the
[9:13] Buddha taught that non-attachment was
[9:17] the primary
[9:20] cause for
[9:23] not experiencing suffering anymore.
[9:25] Attachment was the root of suffering.
[9:27] Non-attachment released us from that
[9:30] suffering.
[9:32] So
[9:34] when we get to this to this position of
[9:38] just letting go or surrender
[9:41] that's actually what I do internally
[9:45] with my heart
[9:49] with the with my throat
[9:52] with my head but not in that order. I
[9:56] actually start in my head and I just let
[10:00] go of all the tension that I'm feeling
[10:02] in my body with the first beck. I just
[10:05] feel wherever I'm holding tightness in
[10:07] the body around the jaw, my spine, my
[10:11] hips, whatever. And I just
[10:14] let go of it. I just relax and allow it
[10:18] to become released.
[10:20] And then
[10:22] on the second bacon day, I think about
[10:25] all the things that I'm holding on to,
[10:28] like the us versus them mentalities, the
[10:31] people I'm I'm pointing fingers at and
[10:34] judging, and all the ways that I think
[10:36] that I'm different than people, all the
[10:39] stuff that inhibits me from having
[10:41] clarity, from having unity. And when I
[10:45] feel those things,
[10:48] I just let go of them or surrender them
[10:52] or offer them or whatever it is. You
[10:54] just want to release the tension and
[10:58] allow it to
[11:01] go wherever the heck it wants, but not
[11:04] in your
[11:06] relationship with body and speech and
[11:10] mind.
[11:11] And then the the third the maha beckons
[11:14] e whatever is inhibiting my ability to
[11:19] just have an open mind to to love
[11:23] whatever I'm I'm everything I think I
[11:25] know.
[11:28] I have to set it aside or release it so
[11:32] that I can have a open mind. So I can
[11:34] have a new experience. So I can get out
[11:37] of my way and allow the character that I
[11:41] play or my ego to stop being a
[11:44] tyrannical dictator
[11:48] and to start being a character that is
[11:52] of service to to the SA to all beings
[11:56] without exception because we can't get
[11:59] free for selfish reasons. I can't get
[12:02] free because I want to get free.
[12:05] That's selfishness. It's self-grasping.
[12:07] So the only way to experience freedom,
[12:10] the only way to experience liberation is
[12:12] to get free so that I can be of the
[12:16] highest benefit for all beings without
[12:19] exception. So I can be of service to the
[12:22] to my full potential. Right?
[12:25] So we're just we're using the mantra to
[12:29] release everything we hold in our body
[12:31] to release everything that we hold that
[12:34] divides us to release everything that we
[12:37] think we know so that we can have an
[12:38] open mind because the open mind is the
[12:41] Buddha,
[12:43] right? That's the Buddha. You're a
[12:46] Buddha. Yes, you are. You're you're a
[12:49] Buddha. And um
[12:52] I'm a Buddha and so is everybody else.
[12:54] But we we uh hid it underneath
[12:57] everything we think we know. And it's
[12:59] not necessarily our fault. There's a lot
[13:01] of social conditioning that goes into
[13:03] it. We're really taught to be selfish
[13:05] and to obscure the Buddha. But but
[13:08] regardless, the the Buddha's inside of
[13:10] all of us, right? And we can get there
[13:12] through this practice. This practice the
[13:15] the three beckons practice of medicine
[13:19] Buddha is a gift from medicine Buddha
[13:21] and it contains all the ingredients in
[13:24] order for people to experience
[13:26] liberation. It's a gift. We don't need
[13:30] to be initiated. We don't need to to be
[13:33] we don't need to identify as Buddhists
[13:35] or or yogis or tantras or whatever.
[13:38] Anybody can do medicine Buddha practice.
[13:40] this medicine Buddha practice this
[13:42] mantra without an empowerment without
[13:44] anything and it holds the keys to
[13:49] liberation it's contained within it
[13:52] anybody can potentially experience
[13:54] liberation through this practice and I
[13:57] think that that's really beautiful
[14:00] but we can't experience liberation if
[14:02] we're doing it for ourselves
[14:04] and we can't experience liberation if we
[14:07] want to right because that's attachment.
[14:11] So, we have to really relax and uh let
[14:15] go of all this stuff. That's the trick,
[14:17] right? While the Buddha
[14:21] while the Buddha was traveling around
[14:24] and learning everything he could,
[14:27] experiencing homelessness, he had he had
[14:29] many different gurus. He learned from
[14:31] all these different uh traditions and
[14:33] people of all genders. And um
[14:38] he he could experience all sorts of
[14:41] phenomena
[14:43] but he could never sustain freedom and
[14:46] liberation for long periods of time
[14:48] because he was looking for it. He was
[14:50] attached to the idea of freedom,
[14:52] liberation, um enlightenment, right? A
[14:55] lot of people sort of um sometimes even
[15:00] like fetishize this idea of
[15:02] enlightenment, right? like it's like
[15:04] it's somewhere far away.
[15:07] It's uh something unattainable.
[15:10] And when we do that, we we inhibit
[15:14] ourselves. We limit ourselves
[15:17] and we create uh duality. If lightment
[15:20] if enlightenment is not inside of you
[15:22] right now and it's somewhere else, we
[15:25] have this we have this dualistic
[15:26] perception and that's going to really
[15:29] cause a lot of uh difficulties because
[15:33] From ignorance, we form attachments.
[15:35] Attachments to things like
[15:37] enlightenment. And then we get
[15:39] aversions. Aversions to things that seem
[15:42] to inhibit our ability to experience
[15:44] enlightenment.
[15:47] So while the Buddha was
[15:50] traveling around and meditating and
[15:52] learning all these different traditions,
[15:54] he was able to tap into
[15:57] infinite consciousness, right? He could
[15:59] get beyond everything he thought he
[16:01] knew. He could set aside everything he
[16:03] thought he knew. He could he could enter
[16:06] infinite consciousness, recognize
[16:08] infinite consciousness in all phenomena
[16:11] around him, including himself, and he
[16:13] could stay in that recognition.
[16:16] But he still wasn't free, right? He
[16:19] recognized the infinite spaciousness,
[16:24] right? that everything has this infinite
[16:31] spaceelike quality to it.
[16:35] And he recognized space, felt no
[16:38] suffering while he was within this
[16:40] recognition,
[16:42] but
[16:44] still wasn't free, still wasn't
[16:46] liberated.
[16:48] He had to come back to the human
[16:50] experience.
[16:53] And he also experienced nothingness. And
[16:56] nothingness I like to I like to work
[16:58] with nothingness as no thingness,
[17:01] right? Like a thought is a thing. An
[17:03] emotion is a thing. So we're sitting and
[17:06] we're not experiencing
[17:08] the the analytical mind. The thoughts
[17:12] have settled.
[17:14] mind itself is is spacious,
[17:18] open,
[17:19] beyond words which are things.
[17:23] He experienced that but he still wasn't
[17:25] free because he had to come back to the
[17:28] human condition.
[17:31] And he also experienced the phenomena
[17:33] that everything neither is or is not
[17:35] what it seems and everything both is not
[17:40] and is what it seems.
[17:45] But even in that he still wasn't able to
[17:48] get free right so he just stopped he
[17:51] just gave up his idea of ever being free
[17:56] of ever achieving liberation from
[18:00] suffering and he accepted the human
[18:03] condition. He accepted that ignorance
[18:07] was a part of our experience. That
[18:09] attachment is a part of our experience.
[18:11] That aversion is a part of our
[18:12] experience
[18:14] and that actually from our our ignorance
[18:18] is is actually a neurotic expression of
[18:22] mind itself.
[18:24] that just as uh some sorrow and nirvana
[18:28] may be two sides of the same coin,
[18:32] ignorance and the Buddha nature may be
[18:34] two sides of the same coin.
[18:37] And that our attachment
[18:43] is actually
[18:45] manifested as a
[18:47] critical component to our empathy and
[18:51] our attach and our compassion.
[18:55] If I'm at a recovery meeting and a drug
[18:58] addict walks in and they're shaking and
[19:00] they're miserable and they're sweaty and
[19:02] they can hardly talk and they're scared
[19:04] and they don't want to talk to anybody,
[19:06] I have nothing but compassion for that
[19:08] person because I know exactly what it's
[19:11] like to be that person because I I am
[19:14] that person and I was that person and
[19:18] because of my attachment to substances.
[19:22] Now that's the source of my compassion
[19:25] for that person. Without my attachment,
[19:27] I actually don't have all this
[19:29] compassion.
[19:31] So attachment actually is a very
[19:33] necessary component because without my
[19:35] relationship to attachment, I don't have
[19:38] the same capacity to express empathy and
[19:41] compassion for others. And the same
[19:44] thing with uh with resentment, aversion.
[19:49] I
[19:51] all of my resentments are are reflected
[19:55] in the SA, right?
[19:58] I'm attached to the dharma
[20:01] and I'm ignorant of the Buddha nature
[20:03] within me
[20:06] and that's my relationship with
[20:07] neurosis.
[20:09] That's where I'm at. That's my that's my
[20:12] relationship with neurosis.
[20:14] And just as
[20:17] those things are vital and sacred parts
[20:21] of the human experience,
[20:25] they are also
[20:30] the exact same coin
[20:32] as
[20:35] liberation
[20:36] as the Buddha, the dharma and the sa.
[20:38] Ignorance, attachment and aversion are
[20:41] not different than the Buddha, the
[20:43] dharma and the sa.
[20:46] Even the three times if we look at the
[20:48] three times we we go into the past. I'm
[20:51] attached to the past.
[20:53] Remember the good old days, remember
[20:54] when things were were cool. I am averse
[20:58] to the present. I do not like the
[21:00] present. I want to be distracted from
[21:01] the present. I need to be entertained. I
[21:03] don't care what it is. I just want to
[21:06] not have to deal with life on life's
[21:08] terms. I'm adverse to my current time
[21:10] experience and I'm very ignorant of the
[21:12] future. I have no idea what the future's
[21:15] going to be like.
[21:17] So, we have the three times, right? We
[21:19] have our subconscious that's creating
[21:22] the
[21:24] reality that we're in. We have our
[21:26] conscious which is sustaining and
[21:29] preserving our current time experience.
[21:32] And then we have the future which is
[21:34] destroying our present time experience
[21:37] constantly propelling it into the
[21:39] future. So we have these three
[21:43] three manifestations of subconscious
[21:46] conscious and and dreamlike conscious
[21:48] which are creation, preservation and
[21:50] destruction which are not different than
[21:54] ignorance, attachment and aversion and
[21:56] are not different than the Buddha, the
[21:58] Dharma and the SA.
[22:02] And we're we're clarifying all of this
[22:04] stuff when we're doing the the mantra,
[22:08] when we're moving through our body,
[22:10] speech, and mind with the mantra. Beckon
[22:11] say beck and say, maha beckons, right?
[22:14] We're we're just releasing everything.
[22:17] We don't even have to know what I'm
[22:19] talking about or even be able to relate
[22:21] to it because ultimately everything that
[22:23] we're going to be doing is just letting
[22:26] go of all of this, right? We're just
[22:28] going to be letting go of all of this.
[22:32] So when the when the Buddha gave up some
[22:34] idea of a human experience that was free
[22:36] from neurosis and realized that you know
[22:39] enlightenment wasn't anywhere else. It
[22:42] was not on top of some mystical crystal
[22:45] mountain with rainbows
[22:48] that it was just right here right now.
[22:50] Regardless of the situation, even if the
[22:52] situation sucks, even if it's suffering,
[22:55] even if it's just pain, misery,
[22:58] unbearable,
[23:00] that's it. That's what it is. It doesn't
[23:02] have to feel spiritual or blissful. It
[23:04] doesn't even have to feel good.
[23:09] And when he stopped looking for it
[23:11] everywhere else, he experienced
[23:14] non-attachment. He was no longer
[23:16] attached to the idea of of that. So
[23:22] he let go. He truly surrendered.
[23:27] And as a result of that true surrender,
[23:31] he experienced this overwhelming
[23:34] confidence
[23:36] in the Buddha
[23:39] within him, right?
[23:43] He recognized the Buddha in him through
[23:46] surrender, through himself. And by doing
[23:50] so, he got risen up out of the dungeons
[23:53] of samsara, out of the gutters of
[23:56] society
[23:58] because the Buddha nature was in him and
[24:00] he had primortial
[24:02] confidence. Right? People say it's the
[24:05] lion's roar. It's like primordial
[24:08] confidence.
[24:10] and he experienced equinimity
[24:13] because the funny thing is that
[24:14] everybody has the Buddha nature.
[24:16] Everything does. It doesn't make us
[24:18] special.
[24:20] Everything has it. So when he
[24:23] experienced non-attachment and he
[24:25] experienced confidence and he
[24:27] experienced equinimity,
[24:29] he was actually experiencing the three
[24:32] jewels within himself. The Buddha is a
[24:34] result of non-attachment. So he tapped
[24:37] into his own Buddha nature. The
[24:39] confidence comes from the dharma. So
[24:42] when he got that confidence, he got
[24:44] confidence in the dharma. And when he
[24:46] experienced equinimity, equality, he
[24:48] experienced equinimity, equality with
[24:50] the SA. He found the three jewels within
[24:54] himself.
[24:56] That's how he experienced liberation and
[24:58] enlightenment. And he was able to be
[25:00] still.
[25:02] And stillness was the last of the Janna.
[25:07] He could just be still in that
[25:10] one moment at a time, one day at a time
[25:12] just for today. Be here now. Right?
[25:18] That's what he did.
[25:20] And um
[25:23] this has a lot of overlap with with high
[25:27] Buddhist teachings
[25:30] and
[25:32] non-attachment, letting go, recognizing
[25:34] the Buddha nature and all phenomena.
[25:36] When you recognize it in all phenomena,
[25:38] including yourself, you have
[25:40] onepointedness
[25:42] because all you're looking at, all you
[25:43] recognize is the Buddha nature. So you
[25:45] have onepointed focus, right?
[25:48] onepointedness is a is a is a very
[25:51] important yoga. It's also the view
[25:56] and confidence in the Buddha nature
[25:58] within yourself and the dharma within
[26:00] yourself.
[26:02] Now you're not projecting outwards. Now
[26:05] you're finding what you need within. So
[26:07] you have the yoga of non-projection
[26:10] which is a really big deal.
[26:14] And anything that distracts us from
[26:18] this recognition and this state of
[26:20] non-projection, anything that distracts
[26:22] us, we simply return
[26:25] to that recognition, to that
[26:26] non-projection.
[26:30] And that's meditation. Meditation is
[26:32] just as much a practice of returning
[26:36] to the flow or the way as it is a
[26:39] practice of remaining in the flow or in
[26:41] the way for as long as we can.
[26:45] And equinimity with with all phenomena,
[26:50] all things are equal. That's the yoga of
[26:53] one taste,
[26:55] right? And if we treat all phenomena as
[26:58] they are the Buddha nature within them
[27:02] and not the neurosis which they may be
[27:04] expressing
[27:05] that's conduct
[27:08] so we have view meditation and conduct
[27:12] as the Buddha the dharma and the sa we
[27:17] also have the yoga of onepointedness the
[27:21] yoga of non-projection and the yoga of
[27:24] one taste. through equality and
[27:27] equinimity as the Buddha, the Dharma and
[27:30] the Sa and all that is left after that
[27:34] is to rest in non-meditation
[27:38] in stillness
[27:40] to just be
[27:43] here
[27:44] in the moment with an open mind that
[27:48] loves being able to speak the truth and
[27:53] to be able to be in our bodies
[27:57] and feel safe
[28:01] and comfortable.
[28:04] That's it. And we we do that by doing
[28:07] this mantra, right? By just letting go,
[28:11] letting go, letting go. We experience
[28:14] the four yogas,
[28:17] right? Of onepointedness,
[28:19] non-projection, one taste, and
[28:22] stillness. And we experience the four
[28:25] words or the three words of view,
[28:29] meditation, and conduct simply by
[28:33] releasing everything that inhibits our
[28:37] ability to express the Buddha, the
[28:41] Dharma, and the Sa from within
[28:43] ourselves, to find it within ourselves.
[28:50] It's pretty beautiful.
[28:52] It's it's it's beautiful and uh it's our
[28:56] birthright because we exist
[29:00] and
[29:01] without any expectations.
[29:04] You know, it's not like we're going to
[29:06] get free
[29:09] because we do this practice right now.
[29:12] We shouldn't expect anything.
[29:15] But this practice contains all the
[29:17] ingredients
[29:19] necessary in order us to experience
[29:22] freedom.
[29:24] And may this practice be a cause for
[29:27] more freedom and less suffering in this
[29:32] world.
[29:37] All right,
[29:40] let's start doing the mantra.
[29:45] Eric, will you please post the
[29:49] San Kino Soha mantra?
[29:55] Omen.
[29:57] Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
[30:00] So, we're going to we're going to start
[30:01] the practice by by saying
[30:07] uh this mantra meno.
[30:12] So,
[30:14] Medicine Buddha, I pray that you now I
[30:17] pray that you now and look upon me now.
[30:21] I pray that you know and look upon me
[30:23] now.
[30:24] My ability to read has been compromised.
[30:28] Okay, I'm just lighting a little bit of
[30:30] this awesome medicine Buddha incense for
[30:33] the people and uh
[30:38] I hope that uh it brings massive amounts
[30:42] of benefit to all beings.
[30:46] Let's start the mantra.
[30:55] know.
[30:59] So high.
[31:08] Oh
[31:13] no.
[31:19] So
[31:27] oh
[31:32] no.
[31:39] So [singing]
[31:47] I noticed that there is um in the chat
[31:53] prayers
[31:54] um already and I rejoice. Thank you for
[31:56] posting them. I forgot to mention that
[31:59] there is a prayer document. So if
[32:01] anybody would like to add prayers to the
[32:04] prayer document, we will all pray for
[32:07] whatever is posted in the prayer
[32:09] document after we do this uh the mantra
[32:12] practice. So please feel free to do that
[32:17] and I will if that's happening for a few
[32:21] minutes I'll just do like a short guide
[32:24] meditation into the mantra practice for
[32:27] anybody who's currently typing.
[32:32] The first step
[32:34] is always to ground ourselves.
[32:40] We want to recognize the chair
[32:44] or the seat in which we are on as an
[32:48] extension of the earth beneath us.
[32:53] And we want the earth
[32:58] to be our source
[33:01] of support
[33:03] and stability
[33:06] throughout this entire practice.
[33:21] Do not try to feel any way.
[33:26] Do not deny any way that you are
[33:27] feeling.
[33:32] Our experience should be authentic.
[33:36] Doesn't have to be spiritual.
[33:38] Doesn't have to be blissful.
[33:40] Doesn't have to feel good.
[33:45] We just want it to be honest.
[33:48] If we're happy, that's okay.
[33:53] If we're sad,
[33:55] that's okay.
[34:01] The second step
[34:03] is to allow ourselves to relax as deeply
[34:06] as possible
[34:09] while staying alert.
[34:13] Notice if there's any tension in the
[34:14] body,
[34:17] around the jaw,
[34:20] around the eyes,
[34:22] and our neck,
[34:25] along the entire spine,
[34:29] and our chest and our shoulders and our
[34:33] belly and our hips
[34:37] and our knees.
[34:40] If there's any tension in the body,
[34:44] simply allow it to be relaxed to your
[34:48] best ability
[34:51] and release that tension.
[34:57] The third step is to give rise
[35:01] to an altruistic intention.
[35:07] Recognize that just as you have a
[35:09] sincere desire to be happy and free from
[35:13] suffering,
[35:14] so too do all beings,
[35:18] plant, animal, human,
[35:21] have a desire to be happy and free from
[35:24] suffering.
[35:27] Even the most harmful
[35:30] people in our lives would not behave in
[35:33] such unskillful manners
[35:36] if they were happy and free from
[35:38] suffering.
[35:41] So we give rise
[35:44] to an altruistic aspiration.
[35:49] May all beings
[35:52] be safe from internal and external
[35:57] dangers.
[36:01] May all beings be well in body, speech,
[36:07] and mind.
[36:11] May all beings be liberated
[36:15] from suffering.
[36:21] The fourth step is to simply stay with
[36:23] the breath.
[36:26] We want to become very familiar with our
[36:28] breath.
[36:30] Mind is an infinite ocean.
[36:35] Our body is like a boat and our breath
[36:39] is the boat's anchor.
[36:41] It keeps us surfaced on the rise and the
[36:45] fall of our breathing in
[36:48] and our breathing out.
[36:52] We simply stay with the breath over and
[36:55] over again and again and again.
[37:10] As we stay with the breath, thoughts,
[37:14] emotions,
[37:16] memories of all types will arise.
[37:21] And the way we skillfully deal with
[37:23] these arising
[37:26] thoughts, emotions, and memories
[37:30] is that we gently
[37:33] and kindly
[37:35] return our point of focus
[37:39] to our breath
[37:41] without judging ourselves.
[38:11] Every time we notice that our mind has
[38:14] been distracted from the breath
[38:18] and we are able to return
[38:21] our point of focus to the breath,
[38:25] it is a huge success. success.
[38:29] It is not a weakness.
[38:32] It is not failure.
[38:37] Returning
[38:39] our point of focus to the sensation of
[38:41] breath strengthens our relationship with
[38:45] mindfulness and concentration.
[38:51] It is a
[38:53] opportunity.
[38:58] It is not a weakness.
[39:09] Meditation is just as much the practice
[39:13] of returning
[39:15] to the flow.
[39:19] as it is a practice of remaining
[39:23] in the flow.
[39:29] So we'll sit like this my friends
[39:32] for 2 minutes
[39:36] and then we will begin to roll the
[39:38] mantra together.
[40:23] I'd like to encourage you all
[40:26] as we roll the mantra
[40:32] to practice
[40:34] letting go of whatever it is you're
[40:38] holding on to
[40:40] inside of your head with the first
[40:43] Bacon.
[40:47] I'd also like to encourage you to let go
[40:51] of whatever it is that's causing
[40:56] obstruction
[40:57] or difficulty in the throat and the neck
[41:01] area,
[41:04] but the second beckons it.
[41:08] And I'd like to encourage you to let go
[41:11] of
[41:13] everything that you think you know
[41:17] with the third
[41:19] maha
[41:21] beck from within your heart center. When
[41:25] we say maha beck
[41:28] just let go of everything or completely
[41:31] surrender to whatever higher power or
[41:34] concept of love that you hold.
[41:43] With that we will begin to roll the
[41:47] mantra.
[42:08] So
[42:10] high
[42:19] be
[42:24] my beans.
[42:35] So
[42:44] be
[42:50] M
[42:57] [singing]
[42:58] got so
[43:08] bey.
[43:21] God
[43:31] be
[43:35] [singing]
[43:45] So
[43:54] be
[43:57] Be
[44:00] M
[44:07] got so
[44:18] begg. Be
[44:30] >> [singing]
[44:32] >> So
[44:37] they are
[44:44] bey. [singing]
[44:50] for
[44:53] [singing]
[45:06] be
[45:15] so much. [singing]
[45:18] So
[45:26] beans
[45:29] beh [singing]
[45:42] A
[45:47] home beans. [singing]
[46:00] [singing]
[46:13] Beckon
[46:22] got so
[46:32] [singing]
[46:38] >> [singing]
[46:44] >> So
[46:51] be
[46:55] [singing]
[47:01] sold.
[47:04] So,
[47:08] [singing]
[47:14] be [singing]
[47:17] honest.
[47:34] Be
[47:36] ma.
[47:38] [singing]
[47:53] [singing]
[48:02] So
[48:11] be
[48:30] Home beha.
[49:08] Om bech.
[49:15] [singing]
[49:25] [singing]
[49:31] Beckon
[49:34] behind. [singing]
[49:40] [singing]
[49:59] So
[50:08] be
[50:23] home.
[50:27] >> [singing]
[50:35] >> Got so
[50:39] [singing]
[50:47] we please get the prayer document
[50:50] posted. Thank you so much.

[59:10] and give rise to this altruistic
[59:13] intention.
[59:18] May this practice

[1:05:11] >> So

[1:07:28] times for the benefit
[1:07:31] of Llama Rod Owens and for everyone on
[1:07:36] Llama Owens's team.
[1:07:51] >> [singing]
[1:07:59] >> So

[1:08:30] [singing]
[1:08:46] so

[1:08:56] all right
[1:08:59] may all be auspicious.
[1:09:02] Thank you everybody for your practice.
[1:09:05] Thank you all for this opportunity.
[1:09:09] I take refuge in you all.
[1:09:13] Let's dedicate the merit with Shanti
[1:09:17] Devas.
[1:09:20] We're gonna read this
[1:09:23] three times.
[1:09:27] Let's begin.
[1:09:30] May I be a protector to those without
[1:09:33] protection,
[1:09:34] a leader for those who journey, and a
[1:09:38] boat, a bridge, a passage for those
[1:09:42] desiring the further shore.
[1:09:45] May the pain of every living creature be
[1:09:48] completely cleared away.
[1:09:51] May I be the doctor and the medicine and
[1:09:54] may I be the nurse for all sick beings
[1:09:58] in the world until everyone is healed.
[1:10:03] Just like space and the great elements
[1:10:07] such as earth, may I always support the
[1:10:10] life of all the boundless creatures.
[1:10:15] And until they pass beyond pain,
[1:10:18] may I also be the source of life for all
[1:10:22] the realms of varied beings that reach
[1:10:25] unto the ends of space.
[1:10:30] May I be a protector to those without
[1:10:33] protection,
[1:10:35] a leader for those who journey, and a
[1:10:38] boat, a bridge, a passage for those
[1:10:41] desiring the farther shore. May the pain
[1:10:44] of every living creature be completely
[1:10:47] cleared away. And may I be the doctor
[1:10:51] and the medicine. And may I be the nurse
[1:10:55] for all sick beings in the world until
[1:10:58] everyone is healed.
[1:11:00] Just like space and the great elements
[1:11:04] such as earth. May I always support the
[1:11:07] life of all the boundless creatures.
[1:11:11] And until they pass beyond pain, may I
[1:11:15] also be the source of life for all the
[1:11:18] realms of varied beings that reach unto
[1:11:22] the ends of space.
[1:11:26] May I be a protector to those without
[1:11:29] protection, a leader for those who
[1:11:32] journey, and a boat, a bridge, a passage
[1:11:37] for those desiring the further shore.
[1:11:40] May the pain of every living creature be
[1:11:44] completely cleared away. May I be the
[1:11:47] doctor and the medicine. And may I be
[1:11:51] the nurse for all sick beings in the
[1:11:54] world until everyone is healed.
[1:11:58] Just like space and the great elements
[1:12:02] such as Earth, may I always support the
[1:12:06] life of all the boundless creatures. And
[1:12:09] until they pass beyond pain, may I also
[1:12:13] be the source of life for all the realms
[1:12:16] of varied beings that reach unto the
[1:12:20] ends of space.
[1:12:27] Thank you all.
