Yoga Retreat
Description
This is a yoga retreat with Soul Shala at Bab Zouina, a retreat venue on the Route de l'Ourika in Morocco. Yoga is the heart of Bab Zouina, and retreats here run throughout the year, each one designed around its teacher and its style. It suits anyone who wants a week of yoga practice in Morocco with teaching, accommodation and meals taken care of in one place.
What to Expect
Bab Zouina works with a range of teachers across many traditions, including Ashtanga, Flow, Hatha, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Kundalini, Sivananda and Yin. Each retreat is led by its own teacher or team, so the character of the week, from the pace of practice to the workshops, follows the person guiding it. Some retreats add excursions or other activities, and the retreat brochure for each one gives the specifics.
Bab Zouina also hosts Teacher Training courses with qualified teachers, generally following the Yoga Alliance framework.
Depending on the retreat, guests book either directly with the teacher or through Bab Zouina.
The Teachers at Bab Zouina
Several teachers are introduced on the venue's pages. Here are some of them.
Adélaïde Klarwein is a transpersonal psychotherapist who has accompanied people on paths of inner change for many years. She trained as a Sivananda Yoga teacher, has practised Iyengar Yoga weekly for more than seven years, and draws on the Institute of Integral Yoga. She teaches gentle, meditative Hatha classes anchored in the breath, shaped by intensive Vipassana practice and by the teachings of Mooji in the Advaita Vedanta lineage. She also offers AromaYoga workshops that combine essential oils with yoga postures.
Ahlam Khafi is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher who began with Hot Yoga in 2010 and later added Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa flow, Aerial Yoga and Ashtanga. She completed a 200-hour teacher training in Nepal and has taught across Morocco since 2019, from the beaches of Essaouira to the dunes of Dakhla and retreat centres such as Bab Zouina.
Ahlam Tsouli is a choreographer, dancer, actress and teacher, certified in 500 hours of Hatha Yoga and 200 hours of Ashtanga Yoga, and a certified laughter yoga instructor. She was a sprinter on the Moroccan national athletics team before turning to classical, traditional and Sufi dances of the Maghreb.
Aisha Azzaoui found yoga in 2007 and trained in Natha Yoga, in the tradition of the Nathas Yogis of Kashmir, and then at Samasti Yoga School in Bali in Yin, Hatha and Vinyasa. She teaches at studios in Casablanca and organises wellness days that combine yoga, meditation and hiking.
Alex of YogaRaha is a Yoga Alliance registered 500-hour teacher. She did her 200-hour training at the Soma Yoga Institute in Hawaii in 2014 and completed 500 hours in Rishikesh, India, in 2018, adding yoga philosophy, meditation, yin and pranayama. She has practised in more than twelve countries.
Akal Anand teaches Kundalini Yoga, a path she found after a meeting with a Kundalini teacher in Casablanca who invited her to sing the mantra ong namo guru dev namo.
