Description
Winter Solstice - The Sacred Pause is a two-hour sound meditation held at Wisdom House Retreat & Conference Center in Litchfield, Connecticut. It is for anyone who wants to mark the longest night of the year with rest, stillness and the warmth of sound. The session is led by Jeanine Chayka, a sound healing practitioner and meditation guide, and takes place on a morning in the middle of December, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
What to Expect
The solstice is treated here as a threshold: the longest night, and an invitation into deep rest, introspection and inner nourishment. Winter asks for slowness and reflection, for the quiet rebuilding of strength beneath the surface. The morning is shaped around that idea of a sacred pause, a season of cocooning and listening inward, and of tending the inner flame that will guide the next cycle of growth.
Sound is the heart of the practice. In the coldest, darkest months, a sound meditation offers a sanctuary of warmth and resonance. The vibrations are meant to soften the body, calm the mind and support emotional replenishment. Jeanine describes the frequencies as an internal hearth, steady, soothing and restorative, helping participants reconnect with their inner wisdom and prepare for renewal.
Her sessions combine guided meditation with the sounds of crystal and Himalayan bowls, drums, chimes and other vibrational instruments. The aim is to activate the relaxation response, so the mind calms, the body relaxes and the nervous system finds balance.
