Is EarthSpirit Centre accessible if I have mobility needs?

The centre has a dedicated Accessibility page covering its site and facilities, so read it before booking. If you need specific adaptations, such as ground-floor rooms or step-free access to the teaching space, contact the centre directly. The listing does not give those details.

Who is Voyage of the Soul likely to suit, and who might find it difficult?

Given Matthews's focus on soul journeys, the afterlife and Celtic and shamanic traditions, it will suit people interested in myth, ancestral work, death and the Otherworld. It may be less suitable if you want a purely practical or secular workshop. If you are recently bereaved and unsure whether the material is right for you, ask the organisers about the content beforehand.

Description

Voyage of the Soul is an advanced shamanic course led by Caitlin Matthews at the EarthSpirit Centre in Compton Dundon, Somerset. It is a residential gathering for people who already have grounding in shamanic practice and want to work at a deeper level with a long-standing teacher in the field.

The course takes place in the Main Centre at EarthSpirit, a retreat venue in the Somerset countryside that hosts shamanism trainings, breathwork, yoga and other contemplative gatherings through the year. Caitlin Matthews appears there as group leader, and her work at the centre runs as a progression. Voyage of the Soul is the advanced course, while Midwifing the Soul is her intermediate shamanic course, held at the centre's Little Earth building.

Before You Go

This is billed as an advanced shamanic course, so it suits those who have already studied or practised shamanism, ideally with some experience of Caitlin Matthews' earlier courses. If you are newer to the path, the intermediate course Midwifing the Soul is the natural step before this one.

For questions about the programme, what to bring or how the days are structured, the course is run through Caitlin Matthews' own teaching organisation, Hallowquest, which holds the detailed information for participants.

FAQs

Caitlin Matthews is a British author and teacher working in the Celtic, shamanic and Western mystery traditions. Two of her books relate to the event's theme: Singing the Soul Back Home, on soul-retrieval and Celtic shamanic practice, and The Celtic Book of the Dead, on death and the Otherworld journey. Reading either is optional. Check the event listing for the exact programme before deciding.

It takes place at EarthSpirit Centre in Compton Dundon, Somerset, in the Somerset Levels countryside. The centre describes itself as set in the ancient Somerset Levels. Other retreats there visit Glastonbury sites such as the Tor, Chalice Well and the White Spring, so the area is clearly within reach. The centre's Getting Here page has directions and transport details.

EarthSpirit runs two spaces, the Main Centre and Little Earth, each with its own facilities, accommodation, catering and price guide pages. The event listing should say which space or whether the whole centre is used. Check this before booking so you look at the right accommodation and prices.

EarthSpirit publishes separate Price Guides for the Main Centre and for Little Earth. These cover venue and accommodation costs. Workshop fees are usually set by the organiser, so confirm on the event listing or by contacting the centre what is included in your ticket.
