Description
Unravel is a Scaravelli-inspired yoga workshop in Bristol, led by Caroline Reid of Caroline Reid Yoga. It is a slow, spacious morning for anyone who wants to deepen their connection with the body through movement and breath. It suits people with a practice of their own, long-term students and yoga teachers.
The morning takes place at Wild Goose Space in St Werburghs, Bristol. Groups are small, around eight people, so there is plenty of room for individual help.
What to Expect
The session runs from 10am to 1pm. The pace is unhurried, and the invitation is to slow right down. Scaravelli-inspired yoga is often described in the words of Sandra Sabatini: "no technique to refer to, only an expansion of awareness and a reduction of effort." The work here follows that spirit, with attention given to sensation rather than to achieving a shape.
Students describe Caroline's teaching as gentle and exploratory. One says the emphasis is on focusing on sensation while entering a pose and staying in it, so that you "arrive at it" in an organic way rather than holding it through muscular effort. Another describes a style that asks you to be playful, to take responsibility for being present in your body, and to treat each asana as a process of enquiry. Caroline is also known for using touch to guide people toward releasing tension, and for finding ways into postures when injury or stiffness gets in the way. With only about eight people in the room, that individual attention is a real part of the morning.
Past participants have called it "a really interesting and freeing experience", and one yoga teacher said she had rarely felt her body soften in the same way.
About Caroline Reid
Caroline Reid teaches yoga from Knowle, Bristol, through Caroline Reid Yoga. Alongside these Saturday workshops she runs regular Tuesday morning and evening classes, as terms and as drop-ins. Students speak of her warmth, her humour and her lack of ego or performance, and several say their practice changed through working with her. One reports that a longstanding ankle problem improved and that he manages stress better.
The Setting
Wild Goose Space is in St Werburghs, Bristol, BS2 9YP. The workshop is held in person.
Before You Go
This is a workshop for people who already have some yoga experience, whether a personal practice, years as a student or a teaching background. Because the sessions are small and individual, you can expect to be supported in working with your own limitations, including stiffness or injury.
