Healing Workshop
Description
Trauma-Informed Living: Understanding People Through the Nervous System is a one-day healing workshop at Rooted Holistic Center in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. It is a training for people who work with people: nurses, teachers, parents, yoga instructors, therapists, caregivers, police officers, social workers, community leaders, and anyone who wants to understand others through the nervous system rather than through judgment. It is led by Jennie Claire, a yoga teacher and the leader of Rooted Holistic Center.
What to Expect
The day is built around one question: why do people shut down, lash out, freeze, fawn, dissociate, or withdraw? Over a full day, from 9 to 5, the training works through a trauma-informed understanding of behavior and what to do with it. Topics include:
- what trauma actually is and how it changes the brain
- the seven trauma responses
- what dysregulation looks like in real time
- how trauma shapes relationships
- emotional survivorship
- trauma-informed communication
- how to support someone without triggering them
- nervous system tools you can use right away
The aim is practical. You leave with a new way of reading the people around you, and with tools for your own regulation as well as for the people you care for or serve.
This is not a certification. It is described as a new lens for how you move through the world, so it suits both professionals and people who simply want to understand a family member, a student, a client or themselves more clearly.
About Jennie Claire
Jennie is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), Reiki Master, Certified Mindfulness Instructor, Thai Massage Therapist and Acupressure Therapist. She came to yoga in the late 1990s, at a time when she had lost herself in her early twenties, and she describes it as her path back home: a way to learn who she was, to root down in faith, trust and love for herself, and to return to her breath.
Her own history shapes her teaching. She is a survivor of stroke, sexual assault, violence and addiction, and she speaks of finding beauty in healing and in letting go. She believes yoga, meditation and a holistic lifestyle can send the body into healing from the inside out. In her words, yoga is "planting roots as firm as the trees," and you can always re-root and rise.
Jennie leads Rooted Holistic Center, an LGBTQ+ owned 501(c)(3) studio founded in 2020. The center offers trauma-informed, neuro-somatic programs that aim to create a personalized recovery path.
