Rising Appalachia with Paper Wings

Rising Appalachia with Paper Wings at Napa Music Hall is a folk concert in Napa, California, for anyone drawn to roots music with a conscience. It suits listeners who love Appalachian string-band sounds, Southern soul and layered vocal harmony, and who like their live music tied to community and care for the earth. Rising Appalachia, the sister duo of Leah Song and Chloe Smith, headlines, with Paper Wings on the bill.

What to Expect

This is an evening of live music in a concert hall setting. Rising Appalachia is known for weaving fiddle, banjo, guitar, upright bass and close vocal harmonies into songs that draw on gospel, work songs and mountain ballads, alongside international roots influences. Their sound carries the traditions of the American South while speaking to social justice, environmental activism and cultural preservation.

Expect a show shaped by that outlook rather than by polish alone. The duo has long placed itself within the Slow Music Movement, a philosophy that favors sustainable touring and a more rooted relationship between musicians and the communities they visit.

About Rising Appalachia

Rising Appalachia is a folk duo founded by sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith in the early 2000s. Raised in Atlanta and steeped in the musical traditions of the American South, they built their reputation on a blend of Southern soul, Appalachian string-band music and international roots music.

What sets them apart from the mainstream Americana revival is the explicit place they give to social justice themes, traditional medicine practices, and partnerships with Indigenous and immigrant communities. Their music is as much about connection and cultural memory as it is about performance.

The Setting

The concert takes place at Napa Music Hall in Napa, in California's wine country. It is a live music venue, so the evening is built around listening, singing along and sharing a room with others who came for the same sound.

Getting Involved

Rising Appalachia runs a street team for this tour. Volunteers print and put up flyers at favorite local spots such as yoga studios, coffee shops and colleges. In return, they receive tickets to the show for themselves and a few friends. Those interested are invited to write to the street team with their name, age and the city where they live, and instructions follow from there.
