Wellness Retreat
Description
The Rest & Thrive Retreat is the signature wellness retreat at Bliss & Stars, a small off-grid retreat centre in the Cederberg, near Clanwilliam in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is open to everyone and brings together mindfulness practice, breathwork, guided stargazing and plenty of real rest. Numbers are kept to ten guests at most, so the days stay quiet and unhurried.
What to Expect
Over four days, the retreat moves through a simple mix of practices rather than a packed programme. Mindfulness practice sets the tone, teaching you to settle into the present moment and stay there. Breathwork gives the body a way to let go of tension and tiredness. Rest is treated as part of the work, not a gap between activities, so there is room to sleep, wander, sit or do very little.
In the evenings the valley's dark skies take over. The Cederberg is known for some of the darkest night skies on Earth, and guided stargazing is part of the retreat, so the day ends outdoors under the stars.
There is no Wi-Fi at Bliss & Stars. That is deliberate. With the signal gone and the group small, attention has somewhere to settle, and most guests find the pace of the days changes within the first day or so.
The Setting
Bliss & Stars sits in the Cederberg wilderness, a remote mountain valley in the Western Cape. The centre describes itself as off-grid, and each of its retreats shares the same valley, from silent retreats to astronomy weeks, couples retreats and cooking retreats. Rest & Thrive is the one that holds the essentials together: stillness, breath, sky and sleep.
Because the group never exceeds ten, the place feels more like a gathering of guests at a private home in the mountains than a large retreat venue. The valley is quiet, and the nights are dark.
Before You Go
Rest & Thrive is open to everyone, and nothing in the retreat asks for previous meditation or breathwork experience. It suits anyone who is tired, overstimulated or simply ready to stop for a few days, and who is comfortable being without a phone signal or internet connection.
Rooms are offered on a sharing basis. Plan for a remote, off-grid location with cool, clear nights, and bring what you need for a few days of quiet outdoor living. If you want the whole valley to yourself, Bliss & Stars also designs private retreats for individuals, couples and small groups on their own terms.
