Malte Marten
Concert
Description
Malte Marten brings his Healing Frequencies Tour to Kastel in Istanbul, Turkey, for the first of two nights. It is a handpan concert for anyone who wants an evening of live, unhurried music: listeners who know his recordings from falling asleep, working or meditating to them, and people new to the instrument who are curious what a handpan sounds like in a room.
Malte plays handpan with his trio. Conrado Molina joins on percussion and voice, and Bummela on multiple instruments. The concert is built around a simple idea: for a couple of hours the outside world gets a little quieter, with no pressure, no rush and nowhere else to be.
What to Expect
The evening lasts about two hours. On the tour, shows usually start at 8 pm, with doors opening around 75 minutes earlier, though the exact times are shown on your ticket.
The handpan leads, and the trio gives it a rich, spacious sound that feels intimate even in a large room. The show is shaped from beginning to end. The music, the silences between pieces and the stories Malte shares are all part of one flowing experience, rather than a string of separate songs. The aim is to bring you out of the noise for a while, so you can slow down, feel deeply and leave with a little more space inside. All venues on the tour are seated.
About Malte Marten
Malte Marten is a handpan artist and composer whose music has reached millions of listeners around the world. His path began in 2014, when he saw a video of the duo Hang Massive. He sold the music equipment he owned as a beatmaker and DJ to buy his first handpan, and later played on the streets of Berlin.
From 2015 to 2020 he toured with his former duo, Yatao. Teaching became a passion alongside performing, and the two gave workshops and retreats and co-founded a shop for people taking their first steps with the instrument. In 2021 the duo's project ended and Malte began his solo work, funding his first solo studio album through crowdfunding. His videos on Instagram and YouTube have since reached listeners worldwide. He says what moves him most is hearing that his music has helped people through personal challenges.
The Trio
Conrado Molina plays percussion and sings. Bummela is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. Alongside Malte's handpan, their parts shape the sound and pacing of the whole evening.
Before You Go
No experience with the handpan or with meditation is needed. A handpan is a steel instrument played with the hands, with a warm sound rich in overtones, a little like bells, and it is easy to simply listen to.
Child tickets are available for ages 12 and up, and wheelchair spaces can be arranged with the organizers when booking. This is the first of two consecutive nights at Kastel, so if one evening is full, the other may suit you.
The Artist
Malte Marten describes himself as a handpan player at his core, and as a musician, teacher and visionary. His path began in 2014, when he came across a video of the duo Hang…
