Spiritual Retreat
Description
La Maison Retreat in Beaumont La Ferrière, in the Nièvre region of France, is a silent meditation retreat built around meditative self-inquiry. It is led by the meditation teacher Mukesh Gupta and open to anyone who feels drawn to live and work from a deeper ground of presence, whatever their gender, faith, culture or background. Its unifying theme is the Living Flame of Silence.
The retreat takes place at La Maison twice a year, once in spring and once in early autumn, and each gathering carries its own fragrance. It belongs to a wider series of meditative gatherings across Europe, Canada and India that bring together international groups of Fellow Travellers. Each spring and autumn stay runs for five days.
What to Expect
The retreat is an invitation into a gentle space where a deeper source of Being can awaken, one that moves beyond the confines of fear and the restless ego-mind. The days follow a harmonious rhythm rather than a crowded program, made up of:
- meditative self-inquiry
- quiet dialogues
- selected readings from J. Krishnamurti's teachings
- small group explorations
- silent sittings
- contemplative walks in nature
The spirit of the time together echoes something Krishnamurti said about retreats: that it is good to go away and stop the routine, not only the routine of outward existence but the routine the mind establishes for its own safety and convenience. When the heart is open, he said, reality can come, and the whisperings of our own prejudices and noises are no longer heard.
