Description
This free yoga and mindfulness class takes place monthly at the Lilly-Washington Public Library in Lilly, Pennsylvania. It is led by Rachel Allen of YogaSong and centers on wellness, mindfulness and community. People of varying abilities are welcome, so it suits newcomers as well as those with an established practice.
The class runs for one hour in the evening, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. It is part of a recurring series, which makes it an easy way to build a regular yoga and mindfulness habit close to home.
What to Expect
This is a community yoga class held in a public library, with an emphasis on gentle, inclusive practice and on being present together. The focus is wellness and mindfulness, and the room is open to different bodies and levels of experience.
Rachel's classes are generally theme-based, drawing on yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. The page for this particular class describes its focus as wellness, mindfulness and community, so the specific shape of each evening may vary from month to month.
About Rachel Allen
Rachel Allen is a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer, Reiki Master and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher who works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and is based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, serving the greater Pittsburgh region and working with individuals and organizations virtually.
Her work merges music, yoga and community, and is aimed at creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities. Music is at the heart of her offerings. Beyond yoga, she leads community singing and sound healing, using chant, mantra and free movement. Some of the pieces are her own compositions, and others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.
The Setting
The class is held at the Lilly-Washington Public Library, at 101 Memorial Drive, Suite 2, in Lilly, Pennsylvania. A library is a quiet, familiar community space, and it lends the evening an unhurried, neighborly feel.
Before You Go
Please feel free to bring a yoga mat or towel and any props you use. A limited number of mats and props are available at the library, so if you have your own, bringing them is a good idea. Calling the library ahead to RSVP is requested.
The class is free. The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance 1889 Foundation Creative Health Impact Grant.
