Description
Compassion + Awareness Sangha with Jess is an online meditation group for anyone who wants to cultivate compassion and awareness and bring that practice into daily life. It is led by Jessica Morey, a meditation teacher, and meets over Zoom on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The teaching is rooted in the Sustainable Compassion Training practices of John Makransky.
What to Expect
Each session runs about an hour and fifteen minutes, from 5:00 to 6:15 pm Eastern. A typical meeting includes a guided meditation followed by discussion, with the emphasis on how to integrate practice into everyday life. Each month the group dedicates time to a specific theme or practice.
The group is currently working slowly through How Compassion Works by John Makransky and Paul Condon. The pace is much gentler than the summer book group, so there is more room to spend time with each practice the book presents.
Jessica also brings in practices and teachings from her own training in other lineages and with other teachers, including somatic meditation, Vajrayana Buddhism and Insight Meditation. Time is set aside for questions and discussion, and you are invited to bring any question about your meditation practice or how to apply it in your life.
Drop-ins are welcome when you can make it. Coming regularly is encouraged, so that the group gets to know each other and Jessica can get to know your practice and support it better.
About Jessica Morey
Jessica Morey is a meditation teacher and contemplative coach with three decades of practice. She began meditating as a teenager on retreats at the Insight Meditation Society and graduated from the IMS teacher training program in 2021. She has been leading meditation retreats since 2009.
Her core practice is Insight Meditation, with primary training in the Burmese Vipassana tradition (Mahasi style). Since 2013 she has also studied intensively within Tibetan Vajrayana traditions, including with John Makransky, Dr. Dan Brown and Dr. Reggie Ray. Her approach draws on psychological insight and skillful communication, and on training in Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Needs-Based Communication and attachment-based healing, including Ideal Parent Figure work. Her teaching brings playfulness and care to the work of integrating meditation into relationships and everyday life.
Before You Go
The sangha takes place online, so all you need is a way to join by Zoom. Registration provides the link. No prior experience with a particular tradition is listed as a requirement, and the invitation to bring questions about your practice makes it open to people at different points on the path.
