Yoga Teacher Training
Description
The 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Nepal is an intensive, thirty-day yoga teacher training at Tattvaa Yogashala Nepal in Pokhara, in the Gandaki region. It is taught in English and built around the intermediate series of Ashtanga yoga, with classical yoga philosophy and Tibetan Buddhist meditation woven through. It suits graduates of a 200-hour teacher training who want to deepen their practice and their teaching.
What to Expect
The days are full. Classes run at least nine hours daily, and full attendance is required. A standard day at the shala begins with pranayama, meditation and mantra chanting from 06:30 to 08:00, followed by Ashtanga asana practice from 08:30 to 10:15, taught either Mysore style or as a led class. Between 10:30 and 12:00 there is breakfast, brunch, free time or study.
Midday is for theory. From 12:00 to 13:30 the lectures cover yoga principles, philosophy and the Yoga Sutras. After Yoga Nidra, rest and free time, the afternoon holds a workshop, study or guest lectures, then 16:00 to 18:00 for asana practice, the art of adjustment and body alignment. Dinner is at 18:30. The evening closes with silence meditation from 20:30 to 21:30, and then mauna, a period of silence that lasts until 06:00.
The syllabus covers the Primary and Intermediate series of Ashtanga asanas, along with a long list of breathing techniques, among them Kapalabhati, Nadi Shodhana, Bhastrika, Ujjayi and Bhramari. Theory and philosophy include the history and schools of yoga, the Yoga Sutras, Samkhya and Vedanta, the koshas, chakras and kundalini, an introduction to the Bhagavad Gita, Ayurveda, anatomy, yoga therapy and kriyas. Pranayama is practised at around 800 metres above sea level. Teaching skills include adjustments, alignment, props and modifications for students with injuries or limitations, and building safe sequences for all levels.
Completing the course earns a course completion certificate, which allows you to register as RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance USA.
The Setting
The training takes place in Pokhara, beside Phewa Lake. Optional trekking and excursions around Pokhara and the lake are available for free time.
Accommodation is a shared room for two, included in the course fee. A private room is mentioned as an option. Two meals are served daily, with a snack and tea each day. Airport pickup from Pokhara Airport can be arranged separately for NPR 800.
Before You Go
This is an intermediate-level course. It is meant for those who have completed a 200-hour teacher training, ideally a Primary series Ashtanga course from a school registered with Yoga Alliance USA. If you are new to Ashtanga, the school recommends starting with its 200-hour course. Expect a demanding schedule, and arrive physically and mentally prepared.
Included are instruction across the full 300-hour syllabus, shared accommodation, two meals daily, a daily snack with tea, and the completion certificate.
Not included are international airfare and domestic flights within Nepal, airport pickup, the Nepal visa fee (payable on arrival in cash) and travel insurance. The school strongly recommends insurance, since fees are non-refundable.
