Journey Inn — Maiden Rock, United States
A 33-acre eco-retreat and boutique inn in Wisconsin's Driftless Region
Journey Inn sits on 33 acres of forest, prairie and bluff country in Wisconsin's Driftless Region. It is three miles from the Mississippi River at Lake Pepin and about an hour from St Paul, Minnesota.
The place began with a leap. Jenn and Brett, married twenty-five years, left the city and the home and community they had spent more than twenty years building. They had stepped out of their car onto this land and felt its peaceful energy. Their story page describes a blended family raised around camping trips, bonfires and loud gatherings, and the wish to make a home where people feel welcome. The stated mission is to care for people well.
Lodging is deliberately small: four Inn rooms (Forest, Flora Fauna, Celestial and River) and a private two-bedroom Cottage with a wood stove and a full kitchen. The Inn is adult-only, while the Cottage is pet-friendly and welcomes children ten and older. Inn stays include a four- to five-course farm-to-table breakfast, sauna access and the property's groomed trails.
The Forest Spa draws on Nordic wellness traditions, with an outdoor sauna, a Japanese soaking tub, a relaxation lounge and guided forest bathing. Retreats are limited to twelve guests. They include a winter series called The Seasons Within, yoga weekends, a March Solstice retreat with sound healing led by Leah Buysse, and a Valentine's couples weekend. Jeannine Myrvik, LCSW, also leads a limited number of therapeutic retreats focused on the Enneagram, self-compassion and grief support. Outside leaders can host their own gatherings, with room for up to 14 overnight guests in beds.
