Description
This yoga retreat in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, is held at Tattvaa Yogashala, a registered yoga school in Swarg Ashram near Ram Jhula. It suits practitioners who want to study in the town long associated with yoga, within a school that teaches Ashtanga, Pranayama and Yoga Nidra. The school lists several retreat formats, so it helps to decide which practice you want to focus on before you apply.
What to Expect
Tattvaa Yogashala offers retreats built around different practices: Ashtanga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Yoga and Healing, and Sound Healing. Each follows its own tradition. Ashtanga is the dynamic, breath-linked style the school connects to Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Pranayama retreats centre on breathing practice, and Yoga Nidra retreats on guided, deep rest.
The school describes its teaching as authentic and its setting as an ashram. Exact daily timings and the length of each retreat vary by programme and date block, so confirm them with the school when you apply.
The Teachers
The school names a number of teachers on its team. Yogi Kamal Singh is the founder of Tattvaa Yogashala. Sunil Sharma Ji teaches Pranayama and meditation. Swami Omkarananda is listed for psychokinesis and psychic healing, and Yogi Upendra Ji is described as a highly qualified yoga teacher. The school does not say which of them leads this particular retreat, so ask which teachers are assigned to your dates.
The School and Setting
Tattvaa Yogashala is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, with RYS 200 and RYS 300 designations and an E-RYT 500 teacher credential noted. It has been teaching for 26 years and carries strong ratings from past students.
Guests can choose between two kinds of accommodation on the application form, where the programme allows it:
- Private room: a room for one guest.
- Couple sharing: a shared room for two guests.
Getting to Rishikesh is straightforward:
- By air: fly from Delhi to Dehradun Airport (DED), then take a taxi of about 45 minutes to the school.
- By road: a private taxi from Delhi takes 5 to 6 hours and suits late arrivals or heavy luggage.
- By train: take a train from Delhi to Haridwar (4 to 5 hours), then a taxi of about 30 minutes to Swarg Ashram.
Before You Go
Applying takes about two minutes and needs no payment or card details. The school usually replies by email and WhatsApp within 48 hours. Many date blocks are already fully booked, so check availability before making travel plans. An early bird discount of 10% is offered to those who enrol three months before the start date.
Airport pickup can be arranged, but it is charged separately from the retreat fee and is not included.
