Description
This introduction to Zen meditation is a one-day workshop for newcomers to Zen, held at the Auckland Zen Centre in Onehunga, Auckland. It is the centre's entry point to its style of Zen practice, and it is also recommended for people who have meditated elsewhere and want a solid grounding in how this community sits.
What to Expect
The workshop runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It is offered five times a year at the Onehunga zendo, and numbers are capped at 20 so that everyone has plenty of chances to ask questions and receive individual advice. The small group keeps the day personal: you are not left to work things out alone.
The Place
The workshop takes place at the Auckland Zen Centre, 52 Princes Street, Onehunga, Auckland. The zendo is the hall where the centre holds its regular sittings and ceremonies.
Before You Go
No previous Zen experience is needed. The workshop is designed for beginners, though people who have practiced in other traditions or places are encouraged to attend as well, since it introduces the centre's own approach.
Completing the workshop also opens the door to further practice. Everyone who has done it is welcome to take part in any of the centre's sittings and ceremonies.
Places are limited, and registration is done through an online form. The centre's Workshop webpage has more detailed information about the day.
