Description
Vibrations of Love is a community kirtan evening of Bhakti chanting in the geodesic yoga dome at Nectar Yoga on Bowen Island, BC. It is led by Jack, Soorya, Matthew and Deviki, members of a local Bhakti band who take turns leading the songs. It suits anyone drawn to devotional chanting, whether you have sung kirtan for years or have never chanted before.
What to Expect
The evening runs two hours, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It begins with grounding breathwork and mindfulness to settle the room before the first chant. From there the group eases into call-and-response mantra practice: a leader sings a line and everyone answers.
Most mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga, known for its vibrational and meditative qualities. Some are sung in other sacred languages from around the world. Between each chant there is a stretch of silence for reflection and integration, so the music has room to settle.
Participation is always optional. You can sing, listen, meditate, or move as the music inspires you. Because the band members rotate through the leading, each song carries a different energy. This is a Bowen Community-led gathering, rooted in Bhakti yoga and the Sanskrit mantra tradition.
Your Hosts
Jack, Soorya, Matthew and Deviki are the Bhakti band members who lead this community kirtan on Bowen Island. They share the leading in turn, each bringing a distinct voice and presence to the songs they guide.
The Setting
The gathering takes place in the Geodesic Yoga Dome at Nectar Yoga, a yoga retreat on Bowen Island, British Columbia. On arrival, follow the signs to the dome.
Parking is limited, so carpooling is highly recommended. There is one washroom, located inside the Onyx Lodge, and guests are encouraged to use it before arriving at the dome.
Before You Go
No previous chanting experience is needed, only an open heart. The practice is open to beginners and to people with long experience in kirtan or mantra.
Yoga props are provided, including backjacks and bolsters, and a limited number of chairs are available for those who prefer to sit that way. Children of all ages are welcome when accompanied by a guardian.
A sliding scale donation option is offered when booking. Come as you are, settle in, and let the sound of mantra and the pauses of silence carry the evening.
