Spiritual Retreat
Description
Somewhere between the first quiet mantra of the morning and the last kirtan of the evening, the noise of ordinary life begins to soften. The Rooted in Bhakti Retreat at Govardhan Eco Village is a seven-day spiritual retreat in the countryside near Mumbai, India, built around daily kirtan, mantra meditation, yoga and the wisdom of the Bhakti tradition.
The retreat is led by Radhika Das, the London-born kirtan singer and mantra meditation leader, together with HH Radhanath Swami, yoga teacher Michael James Wong and friends. Govardhan Eco Village is described by the organizer as an award-winning eco-spiritual community, a peaceful and sacred setting where the teachings and culture of Bhakti come alive in an authentic way.
Whether you are new to Bhakti, travelling to India for the first time, or deepening a practice you already hold, this retreat is designed to support you at each step. It offers a shared journey with a community that grows, serves and supports one another throughout.
What to Expect
Each day follows a rhythm of devotion, nourishment and study:
- Japa meditation at 7:00 AM: a guided practice of quietly chanting sacred mantras, open to newcomers and experienced chanters alike.
- Breakfast at 8:00 AM: freshly cooked vegetarian or plant-based meals made on-site with sattvic ingredients and served in an open-air dining area. Meals can be catered to vegan and gluten-free guests, and you can share your dietary preferences once you sign up.
- Bhakti wisdom classes: sessions drawn from the Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and other Bhakti texts, guiding you toward a deeper understanding of yourself, the divine and your life's purpose.
- Kirtan in sacred settings: uplifting call-and-response chanting each day.
- Yoga asana with Michael James Wong: grounding movement that complements the contemplative practices.
- Guest facilitators: including HH Radhanath Swami, Kirtan experts and others, alongside time with the wider community.
About Radhika Das
Radhika Das is a London-born kirtan singer and mantra meditation leader who carries the devotional practice of Bhakti Yoga into contemporary spaces. Born Ravi and raised in London, he was drawn as a teenager into the company of monks and Bhakti practitioners, whose chanting and stillness stirred a longing he could not shake. Over more than a decade of practice, small gatherings have grown into mantra meditation nights in London, New York, Mumbai and beyond, where people of every faith and background come together to chant, sing and dance. Accompanied by a band of devoted musicians, he has shared kirtan at venues including the British Museum.
HH Radhanath Swami is a monk in the bhakti tradition who has spent over 50 years guiding people toward deeper purpose and supporting social initiatives through bhakti. He is a community builder, activist and New York Times bestselling author, whose message centres on cultivating a rich inner life of self-awareness and serving others with humility.
Michael James Wong is a yoga teacher whose classes balance form and feeling, function and philosophy. His background includes vinyasa, power yoga, vinyasa krama, hatha, Katonah, restorative, yin, breathwork and meditation.
