Description
Offering to the Spiritual Guide (OSG) is a chanted prayer practice and guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa, held online by Kadampa Meditation Center Austin. It is part of the Kadampa Buddhist tradition and is practiced in conjunction with Highest Yoga Tantra. Anyone drawn to devotional Buddhist chanting and meditation can take part from home.
What to Expect
The heart of this practice is relying upon the Spiritual Guide. Within that single practice sit the essential teachings of the stages of the path (Lamrim) and of training the mind (Lojong), along with both the generation and completion stages of Highest Yoga Tantra. It is a compact form of the whole path, practiced through prayer and meditation rather than discussion.
The practice includes a tsog offering, a traditional ritual offering made as part of the session.
The gathering runs from 6:30 pm to 8:15 pm, about an hour and three-quarters, and takes place as a virtual event. Because it is a chanted prayer practice, expect a structured liturgy that is recited and meditated upon together, not an open-format kirtan.
Before You Go
Since the event is held online, you can join from wherever you are. The practice draws on Highest Yoga Tantra, so those who are new to this style of Kadampa practice may wish to contact Kadampa Meditation Center Austin beforehand to ask about preparation or about how the session is conducted.
