Exploring the Enneagram with Luz Tamarit, Krotona Institute, Ojai

Exploring the Enneagram is an evening workshop on the Enneagram of Personality Types, led by Luz Tamarit at the Krotona Institute of Theosophy in Ojai, California. It is part of the Institute's Second Tuesday series and suits anyone curious about the Enneagram as a tool for self-understanding, whether they are new to it or already walking a spiritual path and looking for another way to observe themselves.

What to Expect

The evening runs from 7 to 8:30 pm and offers an introduction to the Enneagram as a modern synthesis of several ancient wisdom traditions. Luz Tamarit presents the history of the system. The person who originally put it together was Oscar Ichazo, who founded the Arica School as a vehicle for passing on the knowledge he had received. He taught in Chile in the late 1960s and early 1970s, then moved to the United States, where he lived until his death in 2020. The Traditional Enneagram dates to the early 1960s, when Ichazo first began teaching it, while the philosophy behind it reaches back into antiquity.

From there the focus turns to the personality types themselves. Each type points to the chief features of our inner landscape. The aim is to help participants see how they might move toward a more integrated way of being, once they have observed themselves honestly and are willing to look at what lies beyond personality, or what the teaching calls the false self. The guiding idea is that self-understanding comes before transformation, and that knowledge of the Enneagram types can be a worthwhile addition to a spiritual path.

Luz María Tamarit was born in Valencia, Spain. She has been a student of Theosophy for many years and is a past president of Logia España in Los Angeles, California. She now lives at the Krotona Institute of Theosophy in Ojai, where she serves as guesthouse manager and as a library volunteer.

The Setting

Krotona Institute of Theosophy is in Ojai, California, and the Institute offers a regular calendar of talks, workshops and weekend programs rooted in the Theosophical tradition. This evening is held in the Second Tuesday series. You can attend in person at Krotona or join by Zoom, which makes it open to those who live far from Ojai.

Before You Go

No prior knowledge of the Enneagram is required; the session begins with its origins and basic framework. Attendance is by donation, and contributions are appreciated. Registration is made through the Krotona Institute.
