Description
The Many Moons Retreat brings the Irish-born musician Ajeet to Mahai Retreat in Mahahual, Quintana Roo, Mexico, for a week-long gathering on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is a music retreat for people who find their way into stillness through mantra, meditative song and the old stories that cultures carry. Fans of Ajeet's recordings, Kundalini Yoga practitioners and anyone drawn to a mantra and kirtan-style retreat by the sea will find a natural home in it.
About Ajeet
Ajeet is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter whose music moves from traditional Irish folk to mystical, meditative soundscapes. She draws on the folk traditions of her Irish background, and her band brings together musicians from Spain, Ireland and the United States. Many of her songs carry layers of folklore, dream images and myth. She has always loved story, especially the stories that cultures pass down.
Her first two albums were built around mantra. Sacred Waters holds music for Kundalini Yoga meditations, and At The Temple Door weaves songs and mantras with harmonies from Snatam Kaur. Darshan was recorded in Bali. Haseya, produced by Maneesh de Moor, takes its title from the Diné for "she rises". Shuniya and Indigo Sea followed, then the LUNAR EP, whose four songs follow the phases of the moon.
That attention to the moon's cycle gives some sense of the retreat's name. Ajeet's work has long moved between devotional chanting, folk song and atmospheric, dreamlike sound, and this retreat gathers people around that body of music in a single place, away from the pace of a festival or a touring concert.
The Setting
The retreat takes place at Mahai Retreat in Mahahual, a small coastal town in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Ajeet will be there as the teaching and musical presence of the gathering.
