Karma, Inner State and Why Helping Others Drains You

Preethaji

A viewer in a recent question-and-answer session posted by the channel Sri Preethaji & Sri Krishnaji describes something many sincere people quietly carry. They want to reach out to others, and afterward they feel emptied. For a year and a half, they say, every attempt to extend a helping hand has left their body drained of energy, and the methods they have tried have helped only a little. Sri Krishnaji's reply, part of an eleven-minute exchange published in October 2026, does not offer a technique. It locates the exhaustion in the state of mind behind the helping, and then widens the frame into a larger teaching about karma, inner transformation and whether awakening makes a person's life harder. This piece works through that teaching: why effortless help is a signal of inner health, how the speaker describes karma as a law rather than a punishment, and what he says happens to hardship when a person's spiritual life deepens.

Read · 8 sections

Why does helping other people leave you exhausted?

The viewer's problem is specific. They want to help, but their body goes flat afterward. Sri Krishnaji's first move is to turn the question back on itself. The answer, he says, is already in the way it was asked.

"The answer is in your question. The more methods you try to use even to gain your energy or do this, the more energy you will lose and the more weaker you'll become." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, Sri Preethaji & Sri Krishnaji channel, October 2026, opening segment)

The argument rests on a distinction between effort and enjoyment. Helping, in his account, can be one of two very different experiences. In one, it is effortless, enjoyable and joyful. In the other, it becomes work, and the work is mostly mental. He turns the viewer's own worries into a list and reads it back to them.

"Will this person reciprocate? Will this person be grateful? Will this person appreciate me? There's a lot that's going on in your mind and that is tiring you." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 1:19)

This is the core of his diagnosis. The tiredness does not come from the act of giving. It comes from the running commentary that accompanies it: a ledger being kept, a silent audit of whether the gesture will be returned or whether the helper will be "used and forgotten." He names the feeling directly, asking whether the viewer is "being exploited," and says that this constant calculation is what drains them. The viewer is not loving the act, and so the act costs them.

A practical reading of this, which is an interpretation rather than a quotation from the speaker, is that the helper is paying twice: once in the effort of the task, and again in the anxiety about how it will be received. Removing the second payment is the part that, in his telling, makes the first one feel light.

What is the "law" of helping, and why does Sri Krishnaji call it unfailing?

Alongside the diagnosis comes a claim that works like a principle. Sri Krishnaji says that when you help someone, the return does not depend on that person's response. Even if the other person never reciprocates, the helper receives something.

"When you help someone, that person, even if that person doesn't reciprocate or do things, you will always have that blessing in your life. And that blessing will always come and help you in some form or the other." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 2:49)

He presents this as a law and adds, "This law you can never go wrong with." The phrasing matters. It moves the viewer's attention from the other person's gratitude, which they cannot control, to the helper's own state, which they can. If the blessing is understood to arrive regardless, the reason to keep score begins to dissolve.

His prescription is inward. "You need to heal your hurt," he says, and the heart will awaken. Awakening, in this framing, is what turns helping into connection rather than a transaction. The more the heart opens, the more effortless the giving becomes. This is a different kind of advice from "set boundaries" or "pace yourself." It treats the exhaustion as a symptom of an unhealed inner wound rather than as a scheduling problem.

Is karma a punishment that gets heavier as you grow spiritually?

A second questioner, Michael, asks a more unsettling question. As a person awakens and becomes, in his words, "the light unto the world," will the negative karma from the past grow larger too, surfacing for them to work on? And if compassion and intelligence draw them back into old patterns, should they release what no longer serves them or deepen their compassion?

Sri Krishnaji begins with an analogy that he returns to more than once. Karma, he says, is a law, like the law of gravity.

"Karma is a law. Okay? Uh like law of gravity... You jump up in Malaysia, you'll fall down. I jump up here, I'll also fall down." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 4:26)

The point of the comparison is that a law does not make exceptions for the faithful or the unfaithful. It is impersonal. He then describes karma as layered: personal karma from this life, karma from past lives, the karma of one's parents and ancestors, the karma of humanity, and the karma of nations. It flows into a life in many forms. For one person, negative karma shows up as health trouble; for another, as money trouble; for a third, as strain in relationships.

Here the speaker makes a distinction that is easy to miss. Karma, he says, "cannot be escaped." What changes with awakening is not whether it arrives but how hard it lands. He calls this a gift: a seeker does not escape negative karma so much as experience it with far less impact.

Can spiritual growth really reduce the impact of a financial loss?

To make the point concrete, Sri Krishnaji offers a hypothetical and then a personal account. Imagine an unenlightened person facing a million-dollar loss. A person who begins to take the spiritual path seriously, practicing tapas and becoming a passionate seeker, would, in his view, lose far less, perhaps around a hundred thousand dollars. The reason is that they stop being governed by fear and move with the flow of life.

Then he describes a case he says he has witnessed.

"I have seen personally a million-dollar loss happens, but the person is so passionate about enlightenment, the loss has come, but there is no suffering, applies the teaching, lives the teaching." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 6:38)

He says the same person went on to make a profit of about $4 million within the following 72 hours, which he describes as four times the original loss. This is the speaker's own account, offered as testimony rather than as something a viewer can verify from the video, and it should be read as such. What the account does illustrate is his central thesis: the loss is treated as karma arriving, and the response, which he calls non-suffering, is what he thinks changes the outcome.

He draws a larger conclusion from this. "Only and only spiritual growth can make you escape negative karma," he says, and he links the process to conduct. As a person grows spiritually, their actions become more compassionate and kind, which in his view generates good karma. He adds that the benefit extends to family and future generations.

Does becoming more spiritually aware mean more problems?

The teaching anticipates a natural objection. If awakening brings karma to the surface, does a deeper spiritual life simply mean a harder life? Sri Krishnaji says no, and he rejects the premise outright.

"There is no principle like you become more God realized, more problems come in life. Then you don't need to become God realized." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 7:49)

He separates the path from circumstances. Self-realization and God-realization are described as a path. What happens outside is something else, and the inner state, in his words, "has a great influence to change it." The distinction is important. It does not promise that difficulty disappears on schedule. It claims that the way a person stands in relation to difficulty is the variable that matters most.

He describes how this works in ordinary life. Much of what unsettles people, he suggests, comes from feeling unfulfilled and finding no meaning or purpose. Questions pile up because the inner ground is unsteady. As a person moves along the path, he says, those questions tend to fall away, because the person begins to have answers. He describes his own life in those terms: fully present, enjoying what he does, with the outer world appearing "more beautiful and more beautiful."

What should you do when debt and fear take over?

The final portion of the excerpt turns to the most painful version of the question. A questioner describes heavy financial pressure, with debt weighing on them, and asks for guidance. Sri Krishnaji's answer is brief in the portion available: "You must not live in fear."

"You must not live in fear." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 11:19)

The answer ties back to everything before it. In his framework, fear is the mechanism through which karma becomes heavy: it fuels the ledger, the calculation and the sense of being exploited. He also connects any hoped-for miracle to the seeker's own part in the process, suggesting the seeker has responsibilities of their own. The excerpt available here does not carry the full answer, so a reader should not assume more specific steps than the speaker stated in the portion shown.

Why does the teaching claim to come from lived experience?

Near the end of this section of the Q&A, Sri Krishnaji makes an explicit claim about the source of the teaching. It is not a borrowed doctrine, he says, but drawn from experience.

"Whatever Shri Preetaji and I are teaching you, it is from our life. It is not from some book... It is what it has the experiences of our life, the way our life unfolds for us from these enlightened states." (Sri Krishnaji, Q&A, October 2026, around 9:36)

Whether a viewer accepts the account of the $4 million recovery or the layered model of karma, the stance is consistent. The speaker is offering a way of relating to life that he presents as tested by his own life and by people he says he has known for years. Readers can weigh that claim on its own terms.

Where to go from here

This teaching is best read as a set of questions to bring to your own life, not as a checklist. A few places to start:

  • Notice the running commentary when you help. Are you asking whether the person will reciprocate, be grateful, or appreciate you? Sri Krishnaji identifies those thoughts as the part that tires you.
  • Ask what hurt sits underneath the exhaustion. His remedy is to heal that hurt so the heart can awaken, rather than to add another technique.
  • Separate outer circumstances from inner state. He argues that spiritual growth does not automatically bring more problems, and that your inner state has real influence over how events land.
  • Return to the full video if you want the complete answers, especially to the debt question, since the portion discussed here ends before the full guidance is given.

The strongest idea across the exchange is simple to state and hard to practice: the weight of giving and the weight of hardship both depend less on what happens to you than on what you carry while it happens.

[0:03] >> Uh the answer is in your question. The

[0:04] more methods you try to use even to gain

[0:07] your energy or do this, the more energy

[0:10] you will lose and the more weaker you'll

[0:12] become. The more your heart can awaken,

[0:14] the more connected you can feel, the

[0:15] more effortless it'll become. When

[0:17] you're helping the other, it is

[0:19] effortless. It is enjoyable. It is

[0:21] joyful.

[0:23] When you help someone,

[0:25] that person, even if that person doesn't

[0:27] reciprocate or do things,

[0:29] you will always have that blessing in

[0:31] your life.

[0:32] >> Shri Krishna Namaste.

[0:33] >> Namaste.

[0:35] >> I'm

[0:36] Taiwan. And I personally had the problem

[0:39] that I suffered from the past 1 and 1/2

[0:42] year. I don't know why my and that that

[0:45] make me refrain my from connecting to

[0:47] people because even though I want to

[0:50] extend my helpful hand to people. And

[0:53] after that, my body will become it's

[0:56] energetically and vitality drain out.

[1:00] And I actually try a lot of method, but

[1:03] the help are limited. So I really hope

[1:06] that you can give me some guidance to

[1:08] solve this kind of problem. Thank you.

[1:10] >> Yes. So you're putting in a lot of

[1:13] effort

[1:14] to help the other.

[1:16] So it is not a process of enjoyment.

[1:19] It is not a process of joy, you know?

[1:22] There's a lot of thought process, lot of

[1:24] noise in your mind going on.

[1:27] Will this person

[1:29] reciprocate? Will this person be

[1:31] grateful? Will this person appreciate

[1:33] me? There's a lot that's going on in

[1:34] your mind and that is tiring you.

[1:37] That is making you exhausted.

[1:39] Uh making you lose all the energy

[1:41] because you're not loving it. You're not

[1:44] enjoying it. So there is no method. See,

[1:47] the answer is in your question. The more

[1:49] methods you try to use even to gain your

[1:51] energy or do this, the more

[1:55] energy you will lose and the more weaker

[1:57] you'll become.

[1:58] So, what needs to happen to you is a

[2:00] true awakening in your heart. A true

[2:03] awakening to connection.

[2:05] Where when you're helping the other, it

[2:07] is effortless.

[2:09] It has It is enjoyable. It is joyful.

[2:12] Which means you're actually not

[2:15] expecting anything in return

[2:17] obsessively. Right now, you're

[2:19] continuously thinking,

[2:20] "Will I get back something in return or

[2:22] will this person use me and forget me,

[2:24] you know? Am I being exploited?" So, in

[2:27] that you're losing a lot of energy.

[2:31] Um

[2:32] but understand one thing, that this is

[2:34] again a law. When you help someone,

[2:37] that person, even if that person doesn't

[2:39] reciprocate or do things,

[2:41] you will always have that blessing in

[2:43] your life.

[2:44] And that blessing will always come and

[2:46] help you in some form or the other.

[2:49] So, have that's a law. Okay? This law

[2:52] you can never go wrong with. So,

[2:53] understand that. From that

[2:55] understanding, if you want to help, do

[2:57] it effortlessly.

[2:59] And the more

[3:02] your heart can awaken, the more

[3:03] connected you can feel, the more

[3:04] effortless it'll become. So, you need to

[3:06] heal your hurt. You need to heal.

[3:10] So, heal and your heart will awaken.

[3:14] >> Hello, dear Sri Krishna ji.

[3:16] >> Hello. Namaste.

[3:19] >> My name is Michael.

[3:21] >> Yes, Michael.

[3:22] >> I've got a question.

[3:24] Um say as you awaken deeper into the

[3:27] divine field of consciousness,

[3:30] and automatically you become uh

[3:33] the light unto the world. That's what

[3:35] you wish and that's who do you are.

[3:38] Will the negative karma coming in plain

[3:42] that you had in the past

[3:44] become bigger as well, surface

[3:47] for you to learn or for you to work on?

[3:51] Yeah, that's my first question.

[3:53] And second question,

[3:55] and because of that, all of your

[3:56] compassion and intelligence,

[3:59] you realize you're drawn yourself back

[4:01] into these old patterns.

[4:03] Um and then manifesting it into your

[4:06] physical reality.

[4:08] What is your advice

[4:10] if you are in this situation? Like

[4:13] do you let that go and destroy the the

[4:16] thing that no longer serve your purpose,

[4:19] or do you embrace deeper compassion and

[4:22] intelligence? Thank you.

[4:24] >> Okay. See, for the first part of your

[4:26] question, I want you all to understand,

[4:28] and Michael understand that karma is a

[4:30] law.

[4:31] Okay?

[4:33] Uh like law of gravity. Now, law of

[4:36] gravity, uh is it different for you and

[4:38] different for me?

[4:41] No, right? It's the same.

[4:43] You jump up in Malaysia, you'll fall

[4:45] down. I jump up here, I'll also fall

[4:46] down.

[4:47] You don't fly off to moon when you jump.

[4:51] So, it's the same. So, understand that

[4:54] karma is a law. The entire human race,

[4:57] all of us are governed by our karma.

[5:01] There are many karmas. It's your

[5:02] personal life karma,

[5:04] your past life karma, you have your

[5:06] parents karma, you have your ancestors

[5:08] karma,

[5:09] you have your humanity's karma, you have

[5:12] nations' karma. So many different forms

[5:15] of karma that that flows into one's

[5:17] life.

[5:19] Now,

[5:21] karma cannot be escaped.

[5:23] Uh for some, negative karma will

[5:25] manifest as health problem, for some,

[5:27] financial problem, for some,

[5:29] relationship problem. For each, it

[5:31] manifests itself in a very different

[5:33] form.

[5:36] But when you become awakened, and as you

[5:39] move towards the path of enlightenment,

[5:42] you have this great gift of

[5:47] not escaping your negative karma, but

[5:49] rather

[5:51] having a very less impact of the

[5:53] negative karma.

[5:55] So, which means let us say that

[5:59] if you are unenlightened and you were

[6:01] supposed to make a million-dollar loss

[6:05] and you started your journey in forward

[6:07] and you start your journey in tapas and

[6:09] you become a passionate enlightened

[6:10] seeker truly.

[6:12] Because as you become your as you become

[6:14] an enlightened seeker, you will

[6:17] you will really not bother about these

[6:18] things. You are going to be with the

[6:20] flow of life, with the flow of divine,

[6:22] with the flow of the universal

[6:23] intelligence. So, you are actually

[6:24] moving away from fear everything. So,

[6:28] which means karma will weaken. So,

[6:30] instead of a million dollars loss, you

[6:32] will end up making probably a hundred

[6:34] thousand loss.

[6:36] In some cases,

[6:38] >> [snorts]

[6:38] >> I have seen personally

[6:40] a million-dollar a million-dollar loss

[6:42] happens,

[6:44] but the person is so passionate about

[6:46] enlightenment, the loss has come, but

[6:48] there is no suffering, applies the

[6:50] teaching, lives the teaching.

[6:53] I have seen that person make in the next

[6:55] 72 hours $4 [snorts] million profit.

[6:59] Four times.

[7:01] So, understand that when you are moving

[7:04] when you are evolving spiritually,

[7:06] when you are moving towards

[7:07] enlightenment,

[7:09] you can escape

[7:11] a large part of negative karma that is

[7:15] coming your way.

[7:16] Only and only

[7:18] spiritual growth

[7:20] can make you escape negative karma.

[7:24] Also,

[7:25] as you grow spiritually,

[7:28] your actions will become more beautiful.

[7:30] Your actions will become more

[7:31] compassionate, more kinder, which means

[7:35] you will also start

[7:37] gaining more and more good karma.

[7:40] Which means your family, your next

[7:42] generations will all take the blessings.

[7:46] So, enlightenment is the only solution.

[7:49] Now, there is no principle like you

[7:52] become more God realized, more problems

[7:54] come in life. Then you don't need to

[7:55] become God realized.

[7:59] If you If the understanding is if I

[8:00] become more God realized, I'll have more

[8:03] challenges in my life, then you don't

[8:05] need to become God realized, right?

[8:08] So, there's nothing like that.

[8:10] Understand that, okay?

[8:12] God realization, self-realization,

[8:16] it's a path.

[8:18] What is happening outside is something

[8:21] else.

[8:22] Now, what is happening outside, your

[8:24] state has a great influence to change

[8:26] it.

[8:28] So, when you are in an enlightened

[8:30] state, as you are moving towards

[8:31] enlightenment, first of all, understand

[8:34] anything that you do, you will not get

[8:35] dissolution with.

[8:37] You are right now getting dissolution

[8:39] with because

[8:40] you are not fulfilled.

[8:42] You are finding no meaning. You're

[8:44] finding no purpose. That is why these

[8:46] questions are coming to you.

[8:48] But as you move in the journey of

[8:49] enlightenment, all these questions will

[8:51] disappear because

[8:53] you will have answers for all the

[8:54] questions. You will never ever be

[8:56] dissolution. So, I, for example, I'm

[8:59] never dissolution.

[9:02] I am fully present to all of you.

[9:04] I enjoy what I'm doing, and many of them

[9:06] know you for many years.

[9:09] And my God realization grows every day.

[9:13] And

[9:14] I go deeper and deeper in enlightened

[9:16] state.

[9:17] And I also see that the external world

[9:20] for me is only becoming more beautiful

[9:22] and more beautiful. So, that is why

[9:24] whatever Shri Preetaji and I are

[9:26] teaching you, it is from our life.

[9:29] It is not from some book of or some some

[9:31] other course or anything like that.

[9:33] It is what it has the experiences of our

[9:36] our life, the way our life unfolds for

[9:39] us from these enlightened states.

[9:43] This is the gift that we're giving all

[9:45] of you.

[9:46] What we are having, we want you all to

[9:49] have. This great extraordinary life in

[9:52] every aspect.

[9:54] So,

[9:55] yeah, that's the vision.

[9:58] >> Thank you so very much, Sri Krishnaji.

[10:00] >> Yes.

[10:01] >> Namaste, Sri Krishnaji.

[10:03] Uh after the COVID, I invested in one

[10:07] school, but I lost a lot of money. So, I

[10:09] have been a very stressful state. I feel

[10:13] a lot of pressure because my debt my

[10:15] debt, and also I have a lot of fear. I

[10:18] think it's karma re- related, but I'm

[10:21] not able to identify the source of that.

[10:24] I feel it's something very deep. Uh

[10:27] would you help me? Would you guide me,

[10:28] Sri Krishnaji? Thank you so much.

[10:32] >> See, definitely, uh

[10:34] it could be your karma.

[10:36] Definitely.

[10:38] Or it could be

[10:40] the state. You could have been in a

[10:42] suffering state when you invested, and

[10:46] you did not look into the details. It

[10:47] could have been a very great No, you

[10:49] could have been very greedy after the

[10:50] investment, did not look into the

[10:51] details, and you invested and it could

[10:52] be a wrong investment.

[10:54] But, yes, karma is definitely playing a

[10:57] role. You don't need to look at the root

[10:59] of karma. That you don't need to go to.

[11:02] That is not the solution for your

[11:04] problem.

[11:05] You have to understand the principle

[11:09] that if you want a miracle to happen in

[11:11] your life, and if you want to

[11:13] have this problem solved,

[11:16] then you must not live in stress.

[11:19] >> [snorts]

[11:19] >> You must not live in fear.

[11:22] Because when you come out of the stress

[11:23] and fear,

[11:25] the divine will take over.

[11:27] The universal intelligence will take

[11:28] over, and a miracle will happen, and you

[11:31] will come out of this problem. Today I

[11:33] will anyway bless you. I will bless you

[11:35] that this problem solves for you

[11:37] and that your life becomes beautiful.

[11:39] I'll bless you. But from your part, make

[11:42] sure

[11:43] to become free of your stress and fear.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Sri Krishnaji says the drain usually comes from the mental commentary running alongside the help, such as wondering whether the person will reciprocate, be grateful, or appreciate you. He argues that when helping is done with joy and without that constant calculation, it becomes effortless rather than exhausting.
In this Q&A, Sri Krishnaji says karma cannot be escaped, but spiritual growth lessens its impact rather than increasing it. He rejects the idea that becoming more God-realized means more problems, and says the inner state has a strong influence on how outer challenges are experienced.
He means karma is impersonal and applies to everyone equally, just as gravity does. He describes it as layered, including personal, past-life, ancestral, humanity-wide and national karma, which shows up differently for each person as health, financial or relationship difficulty.
Sri Krishnaji claims that a seeker who becomes passionate about the spiritual path would experience a much smaller loss, and he describes a personal example of a million-dollar loss followed by a large recovery. This is his own account, not something verifiable from the video, but it illustrates his view that the response to loss shapes its outcome.
In the portion of the Q&A available, his core answer is 'You must not live in fear.' He ties fear to the mental calculation that makes karma feel heavier, and he links any hoped-for miracle to the seeker's own part in the process. The full guidance continues beyond the excerpt.
Sri Krishnaji suggests healing the hurt beneath the need for return so the heart can awaken, which makes giving feel connected rather than transactional. He also says that help given this way always returns as a blessing in some form, regardless of whether the other person reciprocates.
