Central Park is not just a park — it is one of the city's biggest event venues. With 843 acres of performance spaces, lawns, and historic structures, the park hosts hundreds of events from spring through fall.

SummerStage

The crown jewel of Central Park events. SummerStage presents over 100 free and benefit performances from June through September. The Rumsey Playfield stage hosts concerts, dance, spoken word, and film screenings. Lineups feature global superstars and emerging artists alike. Free shows are first-come, first-served — arrive early with a blanket.

Shakespeare in the Park

The Public Theater's beloved free Shakespeare productions at the Delacorte Theater run from late May through August. Getting tickets is a ritual: line up at the park on the day of the show, or enter the digital lottery. The experience of watching Shakespeare under the stars, with Belvedere Castle as a backdrop, is quintessentially New York.

The Great Lawn

Major concerts and events occasionally transform the Great Lawn into a massive outdoor venue. The New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera perform free concerts here each summer to crowds of 50,000 or more.

Year-Round Events

The park's event calendar extends beyond summer. Winter brings ice skating at Wollman Rink, fall features the marathon finish line and Halloween events, and spring offers cherry blossom festivals and Easter events.

Running & Fitness

The NYC Marathon finishes in the park, and smaller races happen throughout the year. Free yoga, tai chi, and fitness classes run on the Great Lawn from spring through fall.

Central Park events are one of the great equalizers of New York City. A free SummerStage concert on a warm evening, surrounded by tens of thousands of people who came for the same thing, is about as good as outdoor events get.
