Why You Ignore Your Inner Warning, and How to Hear It

Baron Baptiste
Baron Baptiste

From The Baron Baptiste Show

Watch · 6

Almost everyone has a version of the same memory: the job offer that felt wrong from the first interview, the relationship where a small voice said not this one, the afternoon you were told not to go out and went anyway. In the episode "Your Inner Warning Is Never Wrong. Here's Why You Still Ignore It," published November 3, 2026, Baron Baptiste opens with exactly that scene: a path you knew not to walk down, a partnership you should not have entered, and the reflection afterward in which all the signs suddenly look obvious. His guest, David, argues that the warning was never the problem. The problem is that most people are living so reactively, pushed by outside pressure and their own survival impulses, that the signal never reaches them. What follows is a close reading of that conversation, which treats premonition not as mysticism but as a practice of honesty, and the pause as the skill that makes it audible.

What happens in the moment you ignore a warning?

Baptiste frames the problem as a familiar sequence. You feel an inner seeing or inner knowing about a person or situation. You step over it. Then, in his words, "you end up in a mess." Hindsight does the rest: "All the signs were right there."

David gives the sequence a body. As a 17- or 18-year-old surfer, he was warned not to go into the water on a particular day. He went anyway. "I almost drowned," he says in the episode, and what followed was not a lesson he could take lightly. He lay on the beach and made a declaration that he did not want to live that way anymore. He describes himself at the time as accident-prone, and he wonders aloud whether he had been receiving other premonitions and warnings he was not paying attention to.

"I was warned not to go surfing on this particular day and sure enough I told that warning system, I don't care what you have to say."

— David, on The Baron Baptiste Show, episode 165 (published November 3, 2026), 2:45 in the episode

The structure of that story matters more than the drama. The warning arrived, the body registered it, and an override happened in the space between knowing and acting. Most of us do not have an ocean to make the stakes obvious, so the override is quieter, and it compounds.

Why do we override our own intuition?

The episode's central diagnosis is that we are not disconnected from our intuition by accident. We are pulled away from it by pressure. David uses the image of a sailboat: raise the sail, and the wind of outside life starts pushing you around. "The world becomes our map," he says. People, places, needs, desires, and the things we do not want begin to tell us who we are and what we can and cannot do. In the important moments when attention matters most, the internal warning system is simply out of earshot.

Baptiste and David separate two kinds of energy that drive this override. One is survival energy, which feels like urgency: you have to act, you have to fix things, you have to go. The other is over-ambitious energy, the pull toward the opportunity that looks too good to question. Both feel like motion. Both push past the flag that said stop. Baptiste's description is precise: when we are "operating from pressure, internal pressure," we get into a "got to go, got to do something" posture. We are, whether or not we know it, living reactively to whatever is pushing us, and in that state we "don't have access to our inner center."

The episode also suggests that the override is not a character flaw so much as a default. Reactive living is how most people move through the day, and the inner signal is the first thing sacrificed to keep up.

What is the power of the pause?

If reactivity is the problem, the remedy the conversation keeps returning to is the pause. David describes it as a deliberate stop: "just stop, you know, drop in, drop into your body, get connected to reality, get in your center." He is careful about what the pause does and does not mean. It is not a decision to withdraw from life. It is the moment in which you realize you do not have to act on every thought, feeling, or impulse.

That pause produces a kind of freedom, and the freedom produces options. Where reactivity gives you one path, the centered state lets you see alternatives. Sometimes the alternative is simply to decline: "don't go that way. Don't engage or interact with that person or situation." This is the practical payoff of the premonition. The warning is information, and the pause is what allows you to receive it before the momentum of a choice has already carried you past it.

David also makes a point about learning. People can learn wisdom through failure and desperation, the way the surfer did. Or they can learn through inspiration, from what he calls "that inner spirit, that inner guidance that has you avoid things." The second route is gentler, and it does not require you to crash first. "You don't have to necessarily learn through experience," David says. "You can also stop and trust there's something there."

Why does sitting still feel so threatening?

The conversation reaches for a line attributed to the seventeenth-century philosopher Blaise Pascal: the problems of humanity stem from our inability to sit quietly in a room alone. Baptiste calls this a huge summary of the problems of human experience, and he observes how readily people escape the pause. Get in the car and turn on the radio. Get home and find another distraction. Pick up the phone.

Baptiste then raises the spiritual dimension of the same idea, quoting a teaching he attributes to "the greatest teacher that ever lived": "be still and know that I am God," and separately, "know the truth and it shall make you free." He turns the second line into a question about epistemology. If truth is always handed to you by the environment, by the people around you, by influencers, how can you know what truth is at all? Without an inner gauge, you are simply taking your cues from outside.

"Well here's the question how do you know the truth if you're constantly having it input by the external and environment by the people around you by the influencers what how do you know what truth is to begin with unless you have an inner gauge."

— Baron Baptiste, on The Baron Baptiste Show, episode 165 (published November 3, 2026), around 7:21

David's answer is that stillness is confrontational. Sitting still exposes the busyness, the noise in the mind, and what he calls polluted or toxic energy when we are operating from stress and reactivity. Most people avoid that exposure, and that avoidance is precisely why the signal goes unheard. To reach the inner truth, you have to be willing to be confronted by it. You get quiet, you practice, you hand the matter over to God or a higher power, and you stay with what is actually going on inside you. Only then do the "inner signals" and "inner promptings" begin to show up clearly enough to trust.

How do you build the habit of listening to small signals?

The episode's most practical line may be this one: "if you can't deal powerfully with the small things then forget about the big things." Baptiste returns to it several times. Premonitions are not reserved for dramatic crises. They show up in small moments of hesitation, in a conversation that feels off, in a commitment that feels heavy before it is signed. Learning to hear those small signals is how the large ones become legible.

Baptiste suggests that each small truth you act on builds on the last. Listening becomes a habit. Trust accumulates. The pause becomes less of an effort and more of a reflex, and the inner gauge he describes becomes steadier in the face of noise. None of this requires you to abandon the world. It requires you to stop letting the world be the only source of direction.

"Thoughts come and go. Emotions come and go. Moods come and go. But, there's something that's timeless and changeless within all of us."

— David, on The Baron Baptiste Show, episode 165 (published November 3, 2026), around 9:37 in the episode

That distinction is the quiet center of the episode. Thoughts, emotions, and moods are weather. They pass through, and reactive living treats each passing front as a command. The warning voice belongs to something steadier, a changeless center that does not panic. When you learn to tell the weather from the ground beneath it, you stop mistaking every gust for a directive.

What does this look like in practice?

The episode does not prescribe a formula, and it is wise to resist treating its ideas as one. But its logic suggests a sequence that many people can test in their own lives. First, notice when you are living reactively: a rush of urgency, a sense that you have to act now. Second, take a pause, even a short one, and drop into the body. Third, ask whether there is a flag you have been stepping over, the small sense that something is off, and name it honestly. Fourth, give yourself permission not to act on every impulse. Finally, notice what options open up once you are no longer pushed.

Honesty is the thread that runs through all of this. Baptiste and David describe the work as a practice of honesty: refusing the comfort of denial and allowing yourself to be confronted by what is true. That is uncomfortable. It is also, by the conversation's account, the only route to a life aligned with what you actually sense.

Where to go from here

If this conversation resonated, the most useful next step is to watch the full episode of The Baron Baptiste Show, "Your Inner Warning Is Never Wrong. Here's Why You Still Ignore It," published November 3, 2026, and listen for the moments where David and Baptiste describe their own overrides. Then keep a simple log for a week: each time you feel a flag, write down what it was, what you did, and what happened afterward. Patterns tend to show up quickly. Finally, try the pause once a day, not as an escape from the world but as a brief return to the center the episode calls timeless and changeless. The warning was never wrong. The practice is learning to hear it while there is still time to choose differently.

[0:01] Welcome to the show. I'm Baron Baptiste.

[0:04] Welcome and today we want to talk about

[0:07] premonitions.

[0:09] Have you ever walked down a path and you

[0:11] knew not to go down that path or you got

[0:14] into some kind of relationship or

[0:16] partnership in work? You should not hire

[0:18] that person. You hire them or you

[0:20] shouldn't work for that person.

[0:22] And then you go down. You ignore, you

[0:24] step over your that that premonition,

[0:26] that inner seeing, that inner knowing.

[0:29] And then you end up in a mess. And then

[0:30] you look back, you reflect and you're

[0:32] like, "You know what? All the signs were

[0:35] right there."

[0:37] I didn't trust it. Didn't trust myself.

[0:40] Didn't trust

[0:41] higher guidance.

[0:43] Didn't trust that inner intuitive

[0:45] knowing.

[0:47] Well, we're going to talk about that

[0:48] today. David, welcome, my friend.

[0:52] What about premonitions? Love to hear

[0:54] it.

[0:55] >> Well, Baron, first of all, great to be

[0:57] here. Always better when I'm with you,

[0:59] my friend.

[1:02] Now, premonitions, look, I've had them

[1:03] and we've all had them.

[1:06] And whether we want to admit it or not,

[1:10] have you ever heard yourself say, "Why

[1:12] didn't I listen to myself?"

[1:15] Well, I think a lot of people are very

[1:17] disconnected

[1:19] from

[1:20] themselves.

[1:22] And one of the things that we wanted to

[1:25] get into is this question about taking

[1:27] the pause.

[1:29] We are we are allowing ourselves to be

[1:32] pressured through life.

[1:35] And it's almost like a sailboat. We put

[1:37] our sail up and all of a sudden the

[1:38] things of life just start pushing us

[1:39] around.

[1:41] And if we allow ourselves to be subject

[1:44] to the strongest influence

[1:46] outside of us,

[1:48] that influence on the inside, that quiet

[1:50] knowing of things, that warning system

[1:53] that we have built into us,

[1:56] we we miss it. We we go right

[1:59] past it. It right over our head. Somehow

[2:03] we are distracted or we are, let's say,

[2:06] out of balance

[2:08] so that we are not taking our cues from

[2:12] our deeper self. We're taking the the

[2:14] world's direction. The world becomes our

[2:17] map. People, places, things, needs,

[2:21] desires, things we don't want all start

[2:23] to tell us who we are, what we can and

[2:25] cannot do.

[2:27] And then in those important moments when

[2:29] we really need to pay attention like I

[2:32] when I was a young it was surfer, 17, 18

[2:35] years old I was warned not to go surfing

[2:38] on this particular day and sure enough I

[2:40] told that warning system, I don't care

[2:43] what you have to say.

[2:45] >> Kind of knowing a premonition.

[2:47] >> Yeah.

[2:48] >> I paid the price. Don't go out in the

[2:49] water today. I paid the price.

[2:50] >> Yeah.

[2:51] What happened? Was it Was it ugly?

[2:53] >> I almost drowned.

[2:55] >> Yeah. Yeah.

[2:56] >> And I laid on the beach and I looked up

[2:58] into the heavens

[3:00] and I made a declaration. I said, I

[3:02] don't want to live this way anymore. I'd

[3:03] rather be dead.

[3:05] Because I it was just I was

[3:07] accident-prone. There was all these

[3:08] things that were happening to me. Maybe

[3:10] I was having all these other

[3:11] premonitions, warnings

[3:13] and I wasn't paying attention. So.

[3:15] >> Yeah.

[3:16] Yeah, it's interesting. What I'm hearing

[3:18] is are we operating out of pressure?

[3:21] External pressure and internal reactive

[3:25] survival kind of energy pressure.

[3:29] And we're skipping over those inner

[3:31] things.

[3:33] Those inner intuitive hits.

[3:36] Those inner warnings. Our conscience or

[3:39] something that's out to protect us

[3:42] as well, right? And I think it's part of

[3:44] you know, as we develop wisdom in life,

[3:47] as we're given wisdom inner wisdom

[3:50] you kind of I mean there's there's

[3:52] learning from your mistakes, right?

[3:54] Like, okay, I'm not going to do that

[3:56] again. And the warning signs, all the

[3:58] flags were there.

[4:00] But then you can learn through failure.

[4:02] You can learn through desperation.

[4:05] Or you can learn from, you know,

[4:07] inspiration. From that inner spirit,

[4:10] that inner guidance that

[4:13] has you avoid things. You don't have to

[4:14] necessarily learn through experience.

[4:16] You can also

[4:17] you stop and and trust there's something

[4:20] there. But when we're operating from

[4:23] pressure, internal pressure,

[4:26] you know, we get into this got to go,

[4:28] got to do something, you know, got to

[4:29] got to you know, act, got to like fix

[4:32] things. It's all this survival reactive

[4:35] energy. And then we've got the outer

[4:36] pressures.

[4:38] And if we're in a reaction,

[4:41] whether we know it or not, it's in the

[4:42] background, but we're living reactively

[4:45] to pressure.

[4:47] We don't have access to our inner

[4:49] center.

[4:50] And we almost have it like, you know, we

[4:53] have to act, or we have to do something.

[4:56] But there's something about knowing that

[5:00] you don't have to act on every thought,

[5:02] every feeling, every impulse.

[5:05] And there's a power in the pause.

[5:08] To just stop,

[5:10] you know, drop in, drop into your body,

[5:12] get connected to reality,

[5:15] get

[5:15] get in your center.

[5:18] Then in that space there's freedom. And

[5:20] in that freedom you see alternative

[5:23] options, alternative choices.

[5:26] And what's right there is don't go that

[5:29] way. Don't engage or interact or or with

[5:33] that a person or a situation.

[5:37] But it's like we gloss over when we're

[5:39] living reactively,

[5:41] we're not connected to that inner

[5:42] center.

[5:44] You take a look at your life,

[5:46] relationships, situations

[5:49] in life when you you knew not to go

[5:52] there. There was something right there,

[5:55] flagged, and you skipped over that. And

[5:58] there was something survival energy or

[6:01] over-ambitious

[6:02] energy that had you go there,

[6:06] and then you find yourself in a mess and

[6:08] you're like when you look back it's like

[6:11] I had these hits these intuitive hits I

[6:14] just threw them aside.

[6:18] Blaise Pascal has got some good stuff

[6:21] yeah.

[6:21] >> The philosopher Blaise Pascal said all

[6:24] of humanity's problems stem from man's

[6:26] inability to sit quietly in a room

[6:29] alone. That that's a huge summary

[6:34] of the problems of human experience

[6:36] because and and I think that by and

[6:38] large much of it is absolutely true that

[6:42] most people avoid the silence they avoid

[6:47] the pause

[6:48] and you know the minute you get in your

[6:50] car you flip on the radio or whatever it

[6:52] is you have.

[6:54] The minute you get home you've got some

[6:56] other distraction you're on the phone

[6:58] what

[6:59] there's a a million ways to escape from

[7:03] the pause.

[7:04] And so the question is is the pause a

[7:07] necessary component

[7:09] of psychic wellness human mental

[7:12] spiritual wellness and of course the

[7:14] answer is

[7:16] what the greatest teacher that ever

[7:17] lived said be be still and know that I

[7:19] am God but

[7:21] he said know the truth and it shall make

[7:23] you free. Well here's the question how

[7:25] do you know the truth if you're

[7:26] constantly having it input by the

[7:28] external and environment by the people

[7:31] around you by the influencers what how

[7:33] do you know what truth is to begin with

[7:36] unless you have an inner gauge an inner

[7:38] sense of things and I think we all have

[7:40] an inner sense of things and that

[7:43] also has to do with us learning to

[7:45] listen in the small things

[7:48] right?

[7:49] And if you start listening in the small

[7:51] things then the other things in life

[7:52] start to fall in line.

[7:54] >> Yeah.

[7:55] >> Yeah if you if you can't

[7:57] deal powerfully with the small things

[8:00] then forget about the big things. It's

[8:03] like to get to truth that inner truth

[8:07] that still small quiet, you know, voice

[8:10] of truth,

[8:12] and the cap- have the capacity to listen

[8:14] to it.

[8:16] To get to that truth, you have to go

[8:19] and be confronted by truth. So, if you

[8:22] be still,

[8:23] you you start getting quiet, and you

[8:25] practice, and you just surrendering,

[8:29] giving it over, handing it over to God,

[8:31] to

[8:32] you know, a higher power. Be with the

[8:34] truth of what what's actually going on

[8:37] with you. You know, we look at

[8:38] meditation, or as Blaise Pascal said,

[8:41] you know, all the problems in life are

[8:43] man's inability to sit still in a room.

[8:46] We don't like sitting still because it's

[8:48] it confronts us with truth of what all

[8:51] that busyness, all that noise in the

[8:53] mind, all that, you know, polluted

[8:56] energy, or toxicity, if you're operating

[8:59] out of stress, pressure, and reactivity,

[9:02] that's toxic, you know, the energy of

[9:04] disease.

[9:05] But, you have to be with that. You have

[9:06] to like just allow for that. Sit be

[9:10] confronted by that.

[9:11] To actually get to that inner

[9:15] truth, that that connectedness, where

[9:17] you you start getting these inner

[9:19] signals,

[9:21] these inner

[9:22] promptings,

[9:24] and then you trust them.

[9:26] So, by default, or just how it goes

[9:29] living reactively,

[9:31] we we trust the all our thoughts. We

[9:35] trust our emotions. We trus- And we're

[9:37] being thrown around. You know, thoughts

[9:39] come and go. Emotions come and go. Moods

[9:41] come and go.

[9:44] But, there's something that's timeless

[9:46] and changeless

[9:48] within all of us.

[9:50] I mean, it's always here.

[9:52] And it's like coming home.

[9:54] And it also protects us. It leads us.

[9:57] It's our leading spirit, our guiding

[10:00] leading light.

[10:03] >> Well, you said the word surrender.

[10:06] You know, most people

[10:09] don't trust themselves

[10:11] because they've made mistakes

[10:15] and there's a lingering sense that they

[10:18] need the outside world to continue to

[10:20] guide them

[10:22] because the trust that they have had at

[10:25] some point in their lives is is gone

[10:28] in their deeper sense of knowing, in

[10:30] their intuition.

[10:32] And so and surrender is a a sort of

[10:35] helplessness.

[10:37] And if you don't believe that there's

[10:38] something greater than your ability to

[10:41] figure things out

[10:43] you're going to end up in a world of

[10:45] hurt because there is something

[10:47] ourselves.

[10:49] If that makes sense.

[10:50] >> Yeah. Yeah, it comes down to trusting

[10:52] yourself and that higher self, the

[10:55] capital S self.

[10:58] Distinct from the lower case S

[11:00] self that is formed from the world, you

[11:03] could say.

[11:04] Human beings are story makers. It's why

[11:06] Jesus taught in parables and stories

[11:09] because he knew people had lived in in

[11:11] their minds and stories and parables and

[11:13] so it was a way of accessing their minds

[11:17] to a deeper place into their spirits.

[11:20] And we all live but you know, as as

[11:23] fallen human beings, you could say, or

[11:25] human beings that haven't grown within

[11:29] ourselves in a way to be able to

[11:31] distinguish for ourselves stories. So

[11:34] it's like the pause, when you really

[11:36] pause, you drop in

[11:39] you know, you stop, you see yourself in

[11:41] a story or you're in your head, you're

[11:43] all the the noise, the thoughts are

[11:45] churning

[11:46] you know, in the pause, you stop

[11:49] yeah, you drop into your body, you wake

[11:52] up and in that pause it separates

[11:56] reality

[11:58] from

[11:59] the story.

[12:01] You know, we often react to what we

[12:03] think

[12:04] just happened or is happening

[12:07] rather than what

[12:09] is actually happening.

[12:12] Does that register? Like communicate?

[12:14] like,

[12:15] do we react to what we think what we

[12:17] think in a story

[12:20] happened

[12:22] different than

[12:24] what actually happened.

[12:26] And when we get to just like, yeah, that

[12:27] person said something,

[12:30] we don't like it. They said something

[12:31] they shouldn't have said from our view

[12:33] in our story, or they didn't do

[12:35] something they should have done. And

[12:37] it's like right there we go into a

[12:39] story. But the pause, you sit, wait.

[12:43] They just said this.

[12:45] They just did this, or they didn't do

[12:47] that. Maybe we don't like what they did,

[12:49] but we're taking We're not giving over

[12:51] our peace. We're not giving over our

[12:53] freedom

[12:55] to some interaction or some situation.

[12:58] We're holding our peace.

[13:01] >> Pascal said something about that.

[13:04] He said, "People almost invariably

[13:06] arrive at their beliefs not on the basis

[13:09] of proof,

[13:10] but on the basis of what they find

[13:12] attractive." Now, look at our world

[13:13] today with all the influencers,

[13:16] and look at ourselves and realize that

[13:18] we are sort of superficially

[13:20] molded

[13:22] by appearances.

[13:25] And this is why the pause is so

[13:26] important. Going back to the pause,

[13:29] you know, there's that

[13:30] the Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know."

[13:34] But

[13:35] be still

[13:36] means to let go.

[13:38] Be still means don't try to figure

[13:40] things out. Be still means allow

[13:43] yourself to be shown. Now, if you're not

[13:45] allowing yourself to be shown, again, in

[13:47] the small things,

[13:49] the bigger things are going to elude

[13:50] you, and you're going to need and rely

[13:52] more and more upon so-called influencers

[13:55] and experts.

[13:57] >> Yeah. Yeah, good. It's like

[14:00] yeah, with the influencers and just

[14:02] social media in general, there's so much

[14:06] noise, input, right, inflow.

[14:09] And it's like, okay, maybe there's truth

[14:11] out there, but there's so much just

[14:14] noise, deception, there's just a sea of

[14:18] opinions.

[14:20] And it's like pretty soon our mind can't

[14:22] distinguish. If we're living reactively,

[14:24] our minds can't distinguish truth from,

[14:27] you know, you said fake news.

[14:30] But it's like to be able to, you know,

[14:32] pause

[14:35] it also transforms your relationship to

[14:37] time.

[14:39] When we stop, we pause, we drop in to

[14:42] reality, it's like we come home. We come

[14:44] home to our senses, we come home to our

[14:47] center,

[14:48] we come back into our true north

[14:50] alignment.

[14:52] And in that, there's there in that

[14:56] pause, there's

[14:58] a transformation

[14:59] in our relationship to time.

[15:02] Not everything requires an immediate

[15:04] action.

[15:06] Maybe it needs an action in a minute or

[15:08] two. Or maybe not right now, not this

[15:12] day.

[15:13] But there's something, you know, do I

[15:15] buy this thing?

[15:17] Wait, pause.

[15:19] You know, is it just emotional or

[15:20] enthusiastic or and then we spin into

[15:23] all the reasons why, you know, like

[15:24] pause.

[15:26] That's a different relationship to time.

[15:29] Do I say yes to this thing

[15:32] that someone's asking of me? Do I say

[15:34] yes?

[15:35] Pause and you discover, well, actually

[15:37] no. I My automatic pilot mind would say,

[15:40] yes, I'll do it and then you resent it

[15:42] later.

[15:43] But you get present and then in that

[15:45] moment you see, wait.

[15:47] No, I actually I'm I know for this and

[15:50] I'm willing to deal with the

[15:51] consequences of them getting upset with

[15:53] me or not liking me or, you know, not

[15:55] getting their approval, yada yada. Do I

[15:57] leave this relationship? Do I send this

[16:00] email? Do I, you know, take this

[16:03] opportunity?

[16:05] Pause.

[16:07] Yeah, transform your relationship to

[16:09] time

[16:11] through getting present to the here, the

[16:13] now,

[16:15] and come home to yourself and get a

[16:17] clarity. Like it it's developing a new

[16:20] kind of muscle.

[16:22] >> Mhm.

[16:23] I like that.

[16:25] Uh Pascal said something about truth. He

[16:27] said

[16:28] truth and this is several hundred years

[16:30] ago. Truth is so obscure in these times

[16:33] and falsehood so established

[16:36] that unless we love the truth, we cannot

[16:39] know it.

[16:41] And man, there's that's a mouthful right

[16:42] there.

[16:44] Cuz because you see, the truth is an

[16:47] incremental thing. It's like how do you

[16:48] eat an elephant? One spoonful at a time.

[16:52] It's the same thing with truth. If you

[16:53] are going to have a meal of truth, you

[16:56] don't try to stuff it all in.

[16:58] Some people they'd like to go to events

[17:00] in which they get mega minister.

[17:05] They they want to have it all infused

[17:08] from the outside. They want it They want

[17:09] it injected.

[17:10] >> There's a kind of pressure.

[17:12] >> That that's right. They want to

[17:13] >> it's it's intended to capture your

[17:16] emotions.

[17:17] >> That's right.

[17:18] >> a compulsive

[17:19] decision in the moment. You'll act

[17:22] without Yeah.

[17:23] >> Like like like in your teaching.

[17:26] A person could do yoga one time and then

[17:28] they walk away with the aches and pains

[17:29] and sore muscles and so on. They've got

[17:31] to continue doing it in order for it to

[17:34] actually take effect. It's got to be a

[17:36] continuous thing. You can't just do it

[17:38] once.

[17:39] You You can't just do it on a you know,

[17:41] once a week. You You really need to

[17:43] integrate a practice of

[17:45] you know, good exercise, good habits.

[17:48] But truth also has to be exercised

[17:52] regularly. The The The pursuit of truth,

[17:55] the the the understanding of a of a

[17:58] single truth a day.

[18:00] It it's got to be continuous.

[18:03] And but if it isn't if maybe there's an

[18:06] aversion to truth. Maybe truth has hurt

[18:08] you. Maybe people have used it as a

[18:09] weapon to try to to try to beat you

[18:11] down.

[18:13] So

[18:14] yeah, we we've got to get to that point

[18:16] where we love truth in a true authentic

[18:19] way, in a real way so that we are open

[18:22] to truth all the time. So, we see truth

[18:24] in all kinds of different ways because

[18:26] there's so many different facets of

[18:27] truth.

[18:29] >> Yeah.

[18:29] >> And then each little truth you get

[18:31] accumulates into an a larger ability to

[18:34] know truth.

[18:36] >> Yeah.

[18:37] Yeah, you know, if I look at my life,

[18:39] you know, in a in in in the past when I

[18:42] was less seasoned in life, you know, I I

[18:45] I can look back and and and and even to

[18:48] this day here and there I'll have these

[18:49] experiences where there's just some kind

[18:52] of

[18:52] hyper energy or anxious energy,

[18:56] something.

[18:57] There's been, you know, times when I was

[18:59] younger I had a lot more of that kind of

[19:00] energy.

[19:03] Even though I knew to pause,

[19:07] I wouldn't do it because it was too

[19:09] painful.

[19:11] Because of what you're speaking to.

[19:13] Because when you pause, it's like again

[19:15] you're coming to some truth. It's like

[19:17] if I were to slow down and pause in that

[19:19] moment, I'd be confronted with this

[19:21] anxious energy I'm experiencing. Or if

[19:24] there's fear or if there's, you know,

[19:27] anger or there's something there that

[19:29] you don't actually want to experience

[19:32] about yourself.

[19:34] You won't pause.

[19:36] You won't then get come home to yourself

[19:39] in such a way that you can see clearly,

[19:42] come back to reality. But it's like it's

[19:44] a ring of fire, a ring the ring of fire

[19:47] you have to go through the fire of truth

[19:51] to get to the source

[19:53] of your

[19:55] creative energy, your creative power,

[19:57] your you know, your your guiding light.

[19:59] Again, that higher alignment.

[20:02] You know, the pause gives you your

[20:03] freedom back.

[20:05] And though getting to freedom, you may

[20:07] have to go through that ring of fire.

[20:09] And between what happens

[20:13] and what you do next,

[20:15] between those two places,

[20:18] there's a possibility

[20:20] of choice.

[20:24] To choose an alternative way. It's like

[20:26] so many times in my life when it just

[20:27] seemed things are this one way or this

[20:29] person's just that one way.

[20:32] And then I gave it some space, you know,

[20:33] the wisdom of time.

[20:36] Things you see things.

[20:38] And then it's like, wait. Now I see like

[20:41] all these alternative pathways, all

[20:43] these alternative ways to relate to that

[20:45] one person

[20:47] or that situation that seemed

[20:49] impossible. It seemed like there was no

[20:52] way out. It's, you know, I was stuck.

[20:54] Like

[20:56] but wait.

[20:57] There's actually always a lot of

[20:59] different ways, but it's accessing that

[21:02] inner looking. That inner eye that can

[21:05] see

[21:07] reality

[21:08] and the big picture. Yeah.

[21:12] >> One more thing here from Pascal.

[21:14] >> Yeah, and then we'll wrap up from here.

[21:16] >> And And this is on our topic again.

[21:18] He says, "Man's sensitivity to little

[21:22] things and insensitivity to the greatest

[21:25] are a sign of a strange disorder."

[21:29] You know, you know how you be sitting in

[21:31] traffic and you just you feel impatient

[21:33] because you want to go and get where

[21:34] you're going. And yet

[21:36] you know, you see the the homeless

[21:37] people walking on the street and the

[21:39] drug addicts bent over and we hear

[21:42] signs, you know, of we hear of wars and

[21:44] rumors of wars and we

[21:46] but we are so self-centered

[21:49] in the sense that the littlest

[21:52] things bother us. And he makes the point

[21:55] that these are signs of a strange

[21:56] disorder. It is

[21:58] that if we can start to free ourselves

[22:00] from narcissism, from self-focus

[22:03] the bigger picture comes into view.

[22:06] We start to see the meaning of our life

[22:09] in relationship to the whole.

[22:11] That's the secret of the pause.

[22:13] Getting quiet long enough to have things

[22:16] revealed to you. Things of deep value.

[22:19] >> Yeah. Yeah, it's good. All right. So,

[22:22] here's what I want you all to consider

[22:24] the next time you feel compelled

[22:27] to react

[22:29] to just go with that energy to defend

[22:32] yourself, to uh you know, send that

[22:35] text, make that purchase

[22:37] or rush into a decision

[22:40] just what if you paused?

[22:43] What if you stopped, dropped in

[22:46] wake up get connected, find your feet

[22:50] you know, not to withdraw

[22:53] but to come home to yourself.

[22:57] And to that place, that inner space of

[23:00] freedom

[23:01] where you can choose freely and from a a

[23:04] higher guidance beyond the senses.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

In this episode, Baron Baptiste describes premonitions as an inner seeing or inner knowing that flags a path, relationship, or job as one to avoid. You are likely ignoring one when you later look back and realize the signs were clearly present but you pushed past them. The guests frame this as a pattern of stepping over small signals before they become larger problems.
David argues that most people are living reactively, pushed by external pressure and internal survival or over-ambitious energy. In that state the inner signal gets drowned out, and the world becomes the map that tells us what to do. The override is less a deliberate choice than a default produced by constant pressure.
The pause is a deliberate moment to stop, drop into your body, and connect with your center instead of acting on the first impulse. David says it creates freedom, and that freedom reveals alternative options, including the option not to engage with a person or situation. It is not withdrawal from life but a way to receive your inner guidance before momentum carries you past it.
In the episode, the line is presented as Pascal's observation that humanity's problems stem from the inability to sit quietly in a room alone. Baptiste uses it to explain how people avoid silence through distraction, and to connect it to the spiritual value of stillness. The episode offers it as a paraphrase, so readers who want the exact wording should consult Pascal's own writings.
David suggests you can learn through inspiration, not only through failure or desperation. By stopping and trusting that there is something present, you can heed the inner guidance that helps you avoid things before experience forces the lesson. Practicing attention to small signals is the training ground for hearing larger ones.
Baptiste says that if you cannot deal powerfully with the small things, you will not be able to handle the big ones. Small moments of hesitation or unease are where the inner gauge is built, and each small truth you act on makes the next one easier to hear. Trust accumulates through this kind of consistent practice.
