Guided Meditation to Empower Yourself: Resonance and Choice

Bentinho Massaro
Bentinho Massaro
Aug 20, 2015
10 min read
Watch · 7

A guided meditation can sound like a soft-focus lullaby, but the fifteen-minute recording Bentinho Massaro posted in August 2015 works more like a set of instructions for a whole life. It opens with a breath, a hand laid over the heart, and an invitation to love yourself, which he describes as "surprisingly easy." From there it moves through one sustained argument: that your consciousness is unaffected by circumstance, that what you vibrate at is what you draw toward you, and that your feelings are a guidance system you can learn to trust. Delivered in a cadence that returns to its key lines the way a band returns to a vamp under a soloist, it asks listeners to stop living for other people's approval and start living, in his words, "as you want to live." What follows explains the ideas inside the recording, how the practice is built, and why its repetition is part of the point, for readers who have not pressed play.

What is this meditation actually asking you to do?

Start with the physical instructions, because the recording does. Massaro asks you to take a deep breath, close your eyes if that feels right, and settle. He is explicit that you should not try to hold on to anything he says: "Don't try to remember anything that I said. Just come back into the space of ever-present intuitive clarity." That line sets the frame. The session is not a lesson to be memorized. It is a state to be entered.

The first move is a gesture. Place your left hand on your heart, he says, "with a sense of self-love, with a sense of appreciation for the very fact that you're here." Around the two-minute mark he gives the sequence in a single breath: feel "some degree of love for yourself," let it increase, let it radiate into the heart center, spread it through the body, and then extend it into "your mental body." Think of it as a slow crescendo built from a single held note. The practice does not begin with a problem to solve. It begins with warmth and widens outward from there.

Why does appreciating the whole life come before fixing it?

The most distinctive move in the middle of the recording is the instruction to appreciate everything, including the parts you would rather not have. Massaro asks you to "appreciate all the struggle that you've created and attracted to yourself and the fact that you're still here showing up." He names the texture of it directly: "The bitter sweetness of it all."

Then he widens the frame to what he calls simultaneity. At about 3:27 he says: "The simultaneity of all that you've ever experienced, past, future, present, alternate selves, this cell." The idea is that you are not a single timeline moving in one direction. You are a soul expressing itself in many ways at once, and the meditation asks you to hold all of those expressions in view together rather than sorting them into good and bad. In musical terms, it is a little like hearing every instrument in the arrangement at the same moment instead of following only the lead line. The recording's phrase for this is "the simultaneity of different kinds of songs and realities interweaving."

The practical implication is that appreciation is not a reward you earn after the difficult parts are gone. It is the stance from which you engage them. That is a demanding idea, and the recording does not pretend otherwise. It describes the challenge and the invitation of each moment in the same breath.

What does it mean that consciousness is "unaffected"?

This is the philosophical center of the piece. Around 4:23 Massaro describes awareness as "absolutely free and unaffected, undisturbed," and gives the reason: "because it knows it has the power to define this moment in the best possible way." He then uses a spatial image. You are "like the space that holds all these parallel realities," and every appearance "is just beaming through you."

The image of space is doing precise work. A room does not become angry because a voice is raised in it. A stage does not change because the lighting does. By placing the listener in the position of the space rather than the events, the recording suggests that circumstance can be experienced without being taken on as identity. He draws the conclusion explicitly: "You will be free from circumstance. You will be guided by resonance." Whether or not a listener accepts the metaphysics, the instruction is concrete. Notice the difference between the event and your response to it, and remember that the response is the part you can shape.

Is this really about what you attract, or what you send out?

The recording makes a careful distinction that is easy to skim past. Massaro states it plainly: "What you vibrate as is what you will attract. But you don't care that much about what you attract. You care about what you send out because that is who you are."

That shifts the emphasis from outcomes to expression. The "control panel," as he calls it, is not a list of things you want to receive. It is your current state of being, the frequency you are broadcasting moment to moment. This is where the popular language of attraction gets reoriented. The goal is not to manipulate events but to become the kind of person whose state is coherent with what you value. The meditation keeps returning to words like "resonance," "frequency," and "state of being" for this reason. Resonance is what happens when something is tuned to what is already vibrating nearby, and the recording's argument is that you can tune yourself deliberately.

How does the emotional guidance system work?

Here the recording becomes most practical. Feelings, in this framing, are information. The clearest passage comes around 9:57: "Do not waste your consciousness on things that do not feel good. That is your emotional guidance system kicking in, letting you know you're focusing down the wrong line of sight."

The implication is that discomfort is not a moral failing. It is a signal that your attention has drifted into a line of thought that is not expanding your life or your soul. Massaro lists the reasons directly: it is not helping anything, not helping anyone, not expanding your theme, not extracting the most benefit from your life. The alternative he proposes is simple and demanding. "What you desire is to feel good. It's to feel epic... to feel amazing all the time and you can do this more and more."

He pairs this with an instruction to clear house. Around 8:18 he says: "Let go of everybody else that ever taught you anything that did not feel good and not feel amazing. Replace your whole canvas. Replace your mind with only that which you wish to perceive right now." This is a strong claim, and listeners should hold it with the same discernment they bring to any teacher, including this one. The recording itself invites that scrutiny, since it presents itself as an exercise in choosing what you let in. Read as a practice rather than a verdict, the instruction asks you to examine which inherited ideas actually feel like yours.

Why does the recording keep repeating itself?

Anyone who has sat with a good groove knows that repetition is not the same as stasis. Around 9:03 Massaro delivers the central refrain three times in a row: "If I can do it, any one of you can do this. If I can do this, any one of you can do this. If I can do this, any one of you can do this." Each pass is a little more insistent, the way a vocalist re-enters a hook until the room has taken it up.

The content of the refrain is an argument from sameness. "We live by the same mechanisms. We live according to the same laws. We live according to the same nature." If the laws are shared, the claim goes, then nothing about this practice requires special status. That is the heart of the recording's democratic tone, and it is worth noticing how it sits alongside Massaro's self-description on his platform as offering a "non-dogmatic style." The refrain is an invitation to test the principle, not to take it on authority.

The recording also builds toward a kind of lift. By about 8:52 he is describing the endpoint: "the bitter will disappear and the sweet will turn into ecstasy. And you will become Mr. and Mrs. Ecstasy." It is a playful phrase, and it is meant to be. The meditation wants you to finish it smiling.

Where does service fit into a practice of self-empowerment?

The recording is clear about sequence. Its instruction is to lift for yourself first, with the hope of service later. Massaro puts it this way: "Lift for yourself so that you may actually maybe one day be of service to other people." Around 9:30 he returns to the idea of lifting "for your resonance" and following your excitement, language that keeps the attention on inner coherence rather than external obligation.

The video description frames the wider teaching in the same three-part way: Self-Realization, Self-Actualization, and Service to Others. This meditation sits mostly in the first two. Its claim is that service is not a duty that drains you but an overflow of a state you have already cultivated. That is a reasonable reading, and it is also the view you can test against your own experience over time.

How might you use this at home?

The recording rewards being approached as a form, not just a listen. You might begin with the left hand on the heart and the breath, then do what Massaro describes: let a degree of self-love grow and move outward. Next, bring to mind one difficulty you have been carrying and try the recording's move of appreciating it as part of the whole, rather than as an enemy to defeat. Finally, notice what your feelings are telling you about where your attention has gone. The recording is not asking you to force positivity. It is asking you to listen to the guidance you already have, and to choose, as deliberately as you can, the line of sight you want to live from.

As with any piece of music, the effect depends on how you play it. Some listeners will find the refrain uplifting and others will find it insistent. Both responses are information.

Where to go from here

If this recording opened a door, the video description points to a wider body of work. Bentinho Massaro's teachings on Self-Realization, Self-Actualization, and Service to Others are offered through Massaro University, an online community with a free tier of daily content and a bi-weekly live session where members can ask questions directly. The school's own page, at https://www.bentinhomassaro.com/massarouniversity, describes the membership options and the free app. Start with the recording again, slowly, and notice which lines return to you during the day.

[0:20] Take a deep breath. And I recommend you

[0:22] close your eyes unless you strongly feel

[0:25] more resonant with opening your eyes.

[0:27] That's fine, too.

[0:31] Just be completely in your own space. Be

[0:33] completely relaxed. Allow this weekend

[0:35] to assimilate

[0:39] to settle for a minute

[0:44] so that a informationfree

[0:46] intuitive clarity can be here with you

[0:49] now.

[0:51] You will remember and take from this

[0:52] retreat whatever you need to remember

[0:54] and integrate that is already done for

[0:56] you. Don't worry about missing out.

[0:59] Don't try to remember anything that I

[1:01] said. Just come back

[1:04] into the space of everpresent

[1:08] intuitive clarity.

[1:14] And take a few deep breaths as you relax

[1:16] your body and you relax your mind.

[1:21] [Music]

[1:39] And just start by placing your left hand

[1:42] on your heart

[1:46] with a sense of self-love, with a sense

[1:48] of appreciation for the very fact that

[1:51] you're here for the spark that brought

[1:53] you here that you paid attention to, for

[1:56] the willingness to show up for your

[1:58] life, for what makes sense to you, for

[2:00] what's important, for why you are here.

[2:04] And thank yourselves so much for

[2:06] appreciating the preciousness of this

[2:08] brave human existence whose only purpose

[2:11] is to express and explore

[2:14] the one infinite creator in as unique

[2:17] and epic

[2:19] a way as I can.

[2:23] [Music]

[2:27] Love yourself. It's not that hard.

[2:34] In fact, it's surprisingly easy.

[2:37] [Music]

[2:39] Just take a deep breath and feel some

[2:42] degree of love for yourself.

[2:46] And just let that increase. Let that

[2:48] radiate into your heart center. And from

[2:51] there, spread throughout all of your

[2:53] body.

[2:55] And from your body, spread into your

[2:57] mind, your mental body.

[3:01] And appreciate

[3:03] all the struggle that you've created and

[3:05] attracted to yourself

[3:08] and the fact that you're still here

[3:12] showing up

[3:14] [Music]

[3:22] and appreciate the fullness of this

[3:24] life. The bitter sweetness of it all.

[3:27] The simultaneity

[3:30] of all that you've ever experienced,

[3:31] past, future, present, alternate selves,

[3:34] this cell.

[3:37] [Music]

[3:38] Appreciate the full spectrum of who you

[3:40] are as a soul expressing yourself in so

[3:43] many ways simultaneously

[3:46] of which you are one extension of which

[3:48] you are one magnificent expression

[3:52] endowed with the true light of your

[3:54] spirit.

[4:00] the simultaneity of different kinds of

[4:02] songs

[4:05] and realities interweaving. And yet

[4:11] it is all coalescing right here right

[4:13] now. It's all happening inside your

[4:15] consciousness

[4:17] which is absolutely free and unaffected,

[4:21] undisturbed. Why? because it knows it

[4:23] has the power to to define this moment

[4:26] in the best possible way. And that is

[4:28] exactly what you're doing. You're making

[4:30] the most of this moment. You're not

[4:32] complaining about anything about

[4:34] yourself. You're taking this moment

[4:36] regardless of circumstance to appreciate

[4:39] the simultaneity of everything that

[4:41] there is.

[4:43] The fullness of that, the richness of

[4:45] that, the challenge of that, the

[4:47] invitations in that.

[4:50] [Music]

[4:54] And you love yourself for being able to

[4:57] perceive this far, this wide, to be this

[5:00] expanded already.

[5:06] And you can let everything just flow

[5:07] right through you. Every appearance is

[5:09] just beaming through you. You are like

[5:12] the space that holds all these parallel

[5:14] realities. And you feel so much love

[5:16] within this space for everything that

[5:18] occurs precisely because you realize

[5:20] you're unaffected.

[5:22] Precisely because you realize you are

[5:24] empowered to choose how you wish to

[5:27] perceive this moment. And if you

[5:29] perceive it in a holistic, loving way,

[5:31] you will feel amazing. You will feel

[5:34] amazing about whatever it is that

[5:36] occurs.

[5:37] You will be free from circumstance.

[5:40] You will be guided by resonance. And you

[5:43] will be empowered to focus only on your

[5:45] state of being,

[5:48] your state of frequency.

[5:50] What you vibrate as is what you will

[5:52] attract. But you don't care that much

[5:54] about what you attract. You care about

[5:56] what you send out because that is who

[5:58] you are. That is the statement that

[6:01] you're making. That is the control panel

[6:03] for living an epic life and for making

[6:06] the most of this precious, bittersweet,

[6:09] challenging yet invitational, highly

[6:12] invitational human experience.

[6:15] And what you take with you when you die

[6:17] and simultaneously already while you're

[6:19] living, what your soul consciousness is

[6:21] extracting from the experiences you

[6:23] attract to yourself is what matters.

[6:25] That's what lasts. That is what you take

[6:28] with you. That is why you are here. To

[6:31] accumulate more experience, to extract

[6:33] more benefit, wisdom, love, and balance

[6:36] to learn from the catalyst that is human

[6:39] experience. That is why you are here.

[6:41] And so you are naturally focused on

[6:43] emphasizing yourself as the state of

[6:45] being that you are as the definitions

[6:47] that you apply as the way that you see

[6:50] life on a daytoday moment to moment

[6:53] second to second basis.

[6:59] That is up to you. You are that

[7:01] powerful. It is up to you how you feel.

[7:04] It is up to you what you create. It is

[7:06] up to you how amazing you want this life

[7:08] to be. how outside of the box you want

[7:11] to create your existence here on earth.

[7:13] How much of an example of expansion you

[7:15] want this to be for all the rest of

[7:17] yourself so that you can merge with them

[7:20] in this inspirational state and grow not

[7:22] only as an individual but as a group

[7:24] consciousness and eventually even as a

[7:27] collective group consciousness.

[7:30] So know your power, know your freedom,

[7:32] know you are unaffected, know that you

[7:35] make the changes you want to make

[7:36] precisely because you can and only

[7:38] because you desire to do so.

[7:43] Whatever you desire is what the one

[7:45] infinite creator wants to see through

[7:46] your eyes. What you want to see in your

[7:49] life is what the one infinite creator

[7:50] wants to see for itself through your

[7:53] eyes.

[7:56] So start seeing as it wants to see.

[7:59] Start attracting what it wants to taste

[8:01] and experience and feel. Stop holding

[8:03] yourself back. Stop limiting yourself.

[8:07] Start expanding. Start stepping into

[8:09] your power. Let go of everybody else

[8:11] that ever taught you anything that did

[8:13] not feel good and not feel amazing.

[8:18] Replace your whole canvas. Replace your

[8:21] mind with only that which you wish to

[8:24] perceive right now. Be in complete

[8:26] resonance

[8:28] with this intuitive knowingness, this

[8:30] connectedness to your higher self. Be

[8:33] only in that space. Emanate only from

[8:35] that space. Make this your core priority

[8:37] in life.

[8:39] Utilize your time efficiently because it

[8:42] is brief and it is bittersweet. But it

[8:44] can be oh so sweet if you let it be. If

[8:46] you choose for it to become sweet, the

[8:48] bitter will disappear and the sweet will

[8:50] turn into ecstasy.

[8:52] And you will become Mr. and Mrs.

[8:54] Ecstasy.

[8:56] [Music]

[8:59] If I can do it, any one of you can do

[9:01] this.

[9:03] If I can do this, any one of you can do

[9:05] this. If I can do this, any one of you

[9:08] can do this. We live by the same

[9:10] mechanisms. We live according to the

[9:13] same laws. We live according to the same

[9:15] nature. Stop messing around.

[9:18] Start living as you want to live. Do not

[9:21] live for other people. Lift for yourself

[9:24] so that you may actually maybe one day

[9:27] be of service to other people.

[9:30] Lift for your resonance.

[9:33] Follow your excitement. See the way the

[9:36] creator sees. Clench your vision and

[9:38] merge with this union so that you live

[9:42] in total self-realization as well as

[9:44] selfactualization.

[9:47] It's a proactive state of merger with

[9:49] the one.

[9:53] Apply your power wisely. Do not waste

[9:55] your consciousness on things that do not

[9:57] feel good. That is your emotional

[9:59] guidance system kicking in, letting you

[10:00] know you're focusing down the wrong

[10:02] wrong line of sight. You don't want

[10:04] that. You don't want that in your field.

[10:06] You don't want that in your life. It's

[10:07] not helping anything. It's not helping

[10:09] anyone. It's not expanding upon your

[10:11] theme. It's not expanding upon your

[10:13] soul. It's not extracting the most

[10:14] benefit from your life. What you desire

[10:17] is to feel good. It's to feel epic. is

[10:20] to feel amazing all the time and you can

[10:22] do this more and more. You can do this.

[10:25] You can get used to this. You can

[10:26] practice this until everything else

[10:29] seems absolutely ridiculous, redundant

[10:32] and irrelevant.

[10:34] Other people can choose that way of life

[10:36] if they so choose. But it is not your

[10:38] life. It is not your way. Your way is

[10:42] that of ecstasy. Your way is that of

[10:44] devotion. Your way is that of

[10:45] dedication. Your way is that of bliss.

[10:47] Your way is that of knowing that you are

[10:50] the chooser of your experience, the

[10:53] chooser of your vibratory state of being

[10:55] and that is everything.

[11:02] So love yourself

[11:04] because this is how powerful you are.

[11:06] This is the potential that you have and

[11:08] also more that I cannot even touch on

[11:11] yet.

[11:13] This is the beginning stages of who you

[11:16] can be,

[11:19] what you can experience,

[11:22] what you can attract to yourself, and

[11:24] therefore to the creator's point of

[11:26] view.

[11:27] [Music]

[11:33] Take a deep breath and feel epic.

[11:38] Feel free. Feel loved. Feel connected.

[11:41] Feel safe. feel supported. Feel

[11:43] inseparable from all of your creation.

[11:46] All of creation is yours.

[11:51] All of creation is you.

[11:54] [Music]

[12:03] Love yourself.

[12:05] Do it now.

[12:07] [Music]

[12:09] Not tomorrow. Not after you've achieved

[12:11] this. Not after you've apologized to

[12:12] your partner. Love yourself now as you

[12:15] are.

[12:17] Love your imperfections.

[12:19] Love your challenge.

[12:21] Love your ignorance.

[12:23] Love yourself as you are.

[12:26] Appreciate yourself as you are.

[12:31] [Music]

[12:37] And let that love empower you to create

[12:39] the life of your dreams and to know that

[12:40] you're the dreamer of it always. You're

[12:43] dreaming in honor of the infinite one.

[12:46] Your life is a testimony.

[12:49] It's a trophy for the infinite one to

[12:51] look at, to stare at and rejoice in, to

[12:54] see itself reflected in form, to see

[12:57] itself reflected in the realm of

[12:58] consciousness having experiences, to see

[13:01] its infinite potential realized in this

[13:03] highly specialized unique way that is

[13:06] you.

[13:10] [Music]

[13:13] You are beautiful. How could you not be?

[13:15] You're so rich. You're so filled with

[13:19] complexities and intelligence.

[13:23] You're so rich. You're so full.

[13:27] You're so overflowing.

[13:32] You're so infinitely abundant and

[13:33] connected and loved.

[13:35] [Music]

[13:37] And you have the ability to live as the

[13:38] creator lives.

[13:41] Be that co-creator.

[13:44] [Music]

[13:48] Be that shepherd of humanity.

[13:51] [Music]

[14:15] live free.

[14:17] Live wild. Even if it looks very

[14:19] peaceful.

[14:30] And feel free to sit here in this space

[14:35] for another 5 to 10 minutes or so if you

[14:37] want to and leave when you want to. If

[14:41] you want to talk and chat, do so outside

[14:43] of this room.

[14:45] And if you want to come up and have a

[14:48] couple seconds

[14:50] of my eye gazing capacities,

[14:54] then you can come up the stage.

[15:01] So keep quiet and keep to yourself for

[15:03] now, but feel free to mingle outside

[15:07] this building

[15:10] and share your epicness with the rest of

[15:13] yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

The recording argues that your consciousness is unaffected by circumstance and that your state of being, or vibrational frequency, shapes what you experience. It asks listeners to choose how they perceive each moment, to treat their feelings as guidance, and to live from self-love rather than other people's expectations.
Massaro instructs you to place your left hand on your heart with a sense of self-love and appreciation, then let a degree of love grow and radiate outward through the heart, body, and mental body. He also asks you to appreciate the full range of your experiences, including the difficult ones, rather than fixing them first.
In the recording, Massaro says that the focus should be on what you send out, your current state of being, rather than on outcomes you hope to receive. The idea is that becoming coherent with what you value is the lever, and that attraction follows from that state.
Massaro presents uncomfortable feelings as information that your attention has drifted onto a line of thought that does not expand your life. He frames it as a signal to redirect focus, not as a moral failing, and the recording invites listeners to test that principle against their own experience.
The repetition, especially the refrain 'If I can do it, any one of you can do this,' builds an argument from sameness: that everyone lives by the same laws and mechanisms. It works like a musical vamp, returning to a key idea until the listener takes it up.
The video description lists Self-Realization, Self-Actualization, and Service to Others as the core of Massaro's teachings. In this meditation, Massaro links the two by asking listeners to live in total self-realization as well as self-actualization, described as a proactive state of merger with the one.
The video description points to Massaro University, an online community offering a free tier with daily content, immersive memberships, and bi-weekly live sessions where members can ask questions. The school's page is at bentinhomassaro.com/massarouniversity.
