Divine Mother's Faces: Lakshmi, Kali, Jagaddhatri

From SRVAssociations

Watch · 7

Before any teaching begins, the room is already chanting. "Om Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, Kali" the verses run, invoking a goddess who removes the distress of the soul and grants contentment and peace, and then the teacher, back from several weeks away, begins mapping the next stretch of Sundays: eight forms of Lakshmi, a Kali puja, a festival for Jagaddhatri, "the holder of the worlds," and a thread that runs back to Durga. The 93-minute class, posted by SRV Associations in late October 2026, is less a single lecture than an orientation to a whole family of Divine Mother teachings, drawn from Shakta, Tantric, Vaishnava and Advaita sources. Its governing claim is one the teacher repeats in several forms: these teachings are not meant to be heard once and filed away. They have to be turned over in the mind, slowly, in solitude, until they become part of how a person sees.

What follows draws on the opening stretch of that class and on selected later passages. It is not a transcript summary. It is an attempt to lay out the ideas the teacher is working with, so that a reader who has never sat in that room can still follow them.

Read · 7 sections

Why does a class on Lakshmi begin with Durga and the nine nights?

Because the teacher had just finished a particular kind of worship. "We've just worshiped nine aspects of her in the nine days called Navaratri," the teacher says, and then names them from memory: Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri and Mahagauri, with a ninth to close the sequence. The list is not a recitation for its own sake. It is the context for the Lakshmi teaching, because the teacher wants the listener to see that nine-fold goddess groupings are everywhere in the tradition.

The class ties the nines to the Shri family, the lineage of Tripura Sundari, which the group has been studying closely. The teacher places the goddess of nines as far back as the Rig Veda and names the Tripura Upanishad and the Tripura Tapini Upanishad as texts the class has been working through. The argument is structural: if the goddess keeps arriving in groups of nine across schools and scriptures, then the nine-day festival is not an isolated custom but a visible surface of something older and more systematic. That is a useful lens for anyone who has encountered Navaratri only as a set of colorful public rituals.

What are the Ashta Lakshmi, and why redefine wealth?

Ashta means eight, and the teacher's central chart lays out the Mahalakshmi's eight divine aspects, the Ashta Lakshmi. The teacher has drawn up a new version of the chart, and the subtitle names what the whole sequence is about: the material and spiritual wealth of the goddess. The word choice is the teaching. The teacher says that in English, "wealth" carries a narrow connotation, and that it has to be pushed past the sense of "lands, money, jewels, gold" if the goddess is to be understood on her own terms.

"Wealth, lands, money, jewels, gold." The teacher lists these as the ordinary meaning of the word, then sets out to go beyond them.

— SRV Associations class, October 2026 (around 12:59 in the recording)

The fragments available suggest the teacher wants Lakshmi's gifts understood as inseparable from how they are held. Passages on power and on the "shaky path" point to a recurring caution: prosperity handled without grounding can become a trap, and the goddess is treated less as a dispenser of things than as a teacher of how to receive and use them. Because the transcript excerpt is partial, the full argument of each of the eight forms is not reconstructed here. But the frame is clear. The Ashta Lakshmi are a curriculum in right relationship to abundance.

The teacher also says the sequence is deliberately split. Four forms are taken up that day and four the following Sunday, a schedule the teacher acknowledges is tight: "two weeks means only an hour and three hours or so," the teacher notes, which is not much time for eight aspects of a goddess whose names alone, the teacher says, run to a thousand.

Why does a Vedanta lineage keep returning to Kali?

The class is not only about scripture. It is also about lineage, and the teacher is direct about the family line that the group belongs to. The teacher says those who came into spiritual life through the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa belonged to the Kali Kula, the family of Mother Kali, because Ramakrishna's ideal was Kali. "As the songs say," the teacher notes, "he awakened her from the cremation grounds of India."

"He awakened her from the cremation grounds of India, and now with her name is spreading spirituality abroad."

— SRV Associations class, October 2026 (around 3:11 in the recording; paraphrased in part from the teacher's spoken account)

The teacher then traces the transmission outward. Swami Vivekananda, the teacher says, was the first to take these inner core teachings beyond the subcontinent and deliver them to audiences who had heard little about such things. The class frames what Vivekananda carried as authentic spirituality grounded in atmagyan, knowledge of the true self, or non-duality, which the teacher reports Vivekananda called the most profound philosophy the world had ever received. The teacher also says Vivekananda asked his followers to practice the four yogas, and that the present coming-together of Shakta worship and Vedanta is meant to be taken into practice as sadhana.

This matters for a reader outside the tradition because it shows how the class understands itself. The Divine Mother is not presented as a distant mythological figure. She is the living center of a lineage that the teacher describes as having been hidden for a long time and then, in the nineteenth century's crossing of Indian thought into the wider world, made available.

Why does the teacher insist on contemplation after hearing?

This is the passage in the class that most rewards slow reading. The teacher argues that in Vedanta, hearing a teaching is not sufficient. "It's not enough in Vedanta just to hear it," the teacher says. "You have to go then and roll it over in the mind and contemplate it."

"It's often an overlooked step, but that's what manana means in Vedanta."

— SRV Associations class, October 2026 (around 10:22 in the recording)

The teacher's sequence is hearing (shravana), then contemplation (manana), then meditation. The contemplation stage is the one the teacher says is most often skipped. The instruction is concrete: go away into a forest, sit near a river, take a hike, or simply withdraw from society for an hour, a day, a week. The teacher recommends a three-day retreat and, for worship in particular, a month rather than the nine days of Navaratri. The class cites a teaching attributed to Lord Vishnu on how to worship Sri Devi over a month, and the teacher says it has been studied before in the group's teaching charts.

For a reader, the practical point is simple. If a teaching about the Divine Mother seems abstract, the instruction is not to hear it harder. It is to give it time and space, the way a melody has to be lived with before it can be sung from memory.

How does the Divine Mother enter the kitchen?

The class moves from abstract doctrine to the ordinary act of eating. The teacher raises prasad, the consecrated food offered to the deity and then received back, and insists that offering matters at every stage. The teacher speaks of "every bite you put in your mouth," and of food being offered first to the Divine Mother and the deities, then to the cook and the chef, and then to the people who grew and harvested it.

The fragments indicate a specific claim: the mood of the people who grow, harvest and prepare food is carried into the food, and that mood affects the mind of the one who eats. The teacher contrasts food harvested by workers with a dull or distracted mind against food prepared with attention and devotion. The remedy the teacher points to is the same as in the rest of the class: offer everything to the Divine Mother first, and let the offering change the quality of what is received. Read this as a practice rather than a dietary rule. It is an extension of the contemplative method into the most repeated act of daily life.

Near the end of the excerpt, the teacher closes a passage on purification and the three worlds, a theme that connects the food teaching back to the larger cosmology the class keeps returning to, including the view of the universe as a cosmic egg born from the union of Shakti and Shiva in the Tantric tradition.

What comes next in this Divine Mother sequence?

The class is one link in a planned chain. After the remaining four Ashta Lakshmi next Sunday, the teacher schedules a Kali puja the following Sunday, and Jagaddhatri puja the Monday after that. The teacher describes Jagaddhatri as a very powerful aspect of Durga, and says the series will start with Durga, move through the goddess as she appears in Vaishnavism and in Tantra, and end with the holder of the worlds. After that come a few weeks of rest and then the birthday of the Holy Mother in December.

The teacher also previews a seminar the following month on sadhana. That is where the Sri Yantra, the nine interlocking triangles the teacher describes as stacked on one another, comes into focus, along with the nine goddesses, the nine helpers and the nine yogas associated with it. The teacher's own framing of the coming material is apt: the tradition is rich in teaching, "but we do need to contemplate them."

Where to go from here

Watch the full class if you can, and do it in two sittings rather than one. The first half sets the lineage and the eight forms of Lakshmi; the second is where the teacher's argument about wealth, power and offering gets its fullest working-out, and where the chart becomes most useful.

  • Pick one of the Ashta Lakshmi and sit with it for a week before moving to the next. This is the method the teacher describes.
  • Try offering one meal a day to the Divine Mother before eating, and notice what changes in your attention.
  • Look up the Tripura Upanishad and the Tripura Tapini Upanishad, both named in the class, to see the nine-fold goddess tradition in its own words.
  • Plan a longer stretch of contemplation, even a single day in nature, rather than another hour of listening.

The teacher's own closing thought, offered in the final passages, is that these teachings should be repeated. A class like this is meant to be returned to, not consumed once. That is probably the most accurate instruction the recording gives.

[1:21] Shagar

[1:27] Janimat. Come

[1:30] om shanti shanti shanti.

[1:36] Oh propitious goddess,

[1:45] divine mother of the universe in human

[1:48] form.

[1:51] Distress of our souls remove us thou.

[1:54] Givest us contentment and peace.

[1:57] Thy children who offer all to thee,

[2:00] makest them content and free.

[2:03] Oh great mother of the worlds be our

[2:05] salutations ever unto thee.

[2:11] Om Mahalakshmi

[2:13] Saraswati

[2:16] Kali

[2:18] Shada

[2:21] rapicious goddess

[2:24] killer of misery and souls resigned

[2:28] by saints and sages worshiped. Oh mother

[2:30] kind

[2:33] savior of religion in every age.

[2:40] Oh sharda

[2:43] mahalakmi be our salutations ever unto

[2:46] thee

[2:48] shanti shanti shanti

[2:52] oh peace peace peace

[3:00] welcome to our first class after several

[3:04] weeks break due to our retreat on the

[3:07] mainland in the Pacific Northwest where

[3:09] We talked about

[3:11] uh divine mother Dorga and the goddess

[3:14] of nines

[3:15] and known in the scriptures as far back

[3:18] as the rigveda as being such and and at

[3:22] least one of the several schools of

[3:24] shocktism that we find in India that

[3:26] that are major schools which we've been

[3:29] looking into very deeply because those

[3:32] of us who have come into spiritual life

[3:34] under the umbrella you might say or

[3:37] guidance of Sri Rama Krishna Par Mahamsa

[3:40] which we feel very fortunate about um

[3:43] belonged to the Kali Kula family or that

[3:46] family of mother Kali because his ideal

[3:48] was that and as the songs say he

[3:51] awakened her from the cremation grounds

[3:53] of India and now with her name is

[3:56] spreading spirituality

[3:58] uh uh abroad even outside of India

[4:02] because his great disciples Swami

[4:04] Vivikananda was really the first to take

[4:06] all these inner core teachings and take

[4:09] them outside of the boundaries of that

[4:11] subcontinent

[4:12] and deliver them to people whom before

[4:16] had heard very little about such things.

[4:18] Uh we might call it authentic

[4:21] spirituality that he brought to us based

[4:24] in atmagan knowledge of the true self or

[4:27] non-duality which he said was the most

[4:31] profound philosophy the world had ever

[4:33] received. Padvita Vanta he made some

[4:36] very specific quotes about the

[4:38] superiority of of that Indian onity

[4:42] and those of us who have come across

[4:44] this of course have found very great

[4:47] attraction to it and that ring of truth

[4:49] which is one of those

[4:52] articles that mother Durga holds right

[4:54] chundra ganta she's that's the third

[4:56] aspect of dorga she holds the bell the

[4:59] ganta and u so we

[5:03] We worshiped her in the nine days

[5:05] recently. Shilaputra,

[5:08] Brahmacharini,

[5:10] Chandra Ganta,

[5:12] Kushana

[5:15] uh and then um Katyani,

[5:20] Scandamata,

[5:24] uh Karatri

[5:27] and uh

[5:30] Mahagawi and City. I think I got all

[5:32] nine from memory. So we've just

[5:35] worshiped nine aspects of her in the

[5:38] nine days called navaratri very much

[5:40] like the nines of the shria family which

[5:44] is that family of triura sundari which

[5:47] we've come across very deeply because of

[5:50] our recent study of the triura uponad in

[5:53] the in the rig vda in the vadas and uh

[5:58] and the atarba vda I believe and then

[6:00] also the triura tapini hupanad which

[6:03] appears there. So those

[6:07] great goddess of nines are prevalent in

[6:11] all the families and we have now upon us

[6:15] after our completion of the durguja

[6:18] navaratri

[6:20] today. This is the first uh goddess uh

[6:25] holy day that we can observe after

[6:28] navaratri has ended. That's mahalakmi

[6:30] puja. So why I started out chanting to

[6:34] her

[6:35] and we have a great teaching called the

[6:37] asta lakshmi which I've created a new

[6:40] chart for of course so that we can give

[6:44] her a thorough rendering of all those

[6:46] eight aspects because along with her

[6:49] that would make nine again wouldn't it

[6:51] so the eight forms of lakshmi now we're

[6:54] looking at deeply after we've worshiped

[6:56] the eight nine forms of da so it's a

[7:00] very beautiful oto October, November

[7:02] period for India and for everyone in the

[7:05] world who has discovered the divine

[7:07] mother reality uh prior to this like

[7:11] those great teachings of Advite of

[7:13] Adanta in India um very hidden from view

[7:17] uh we were fortunate to find them in

[7:19] this lifetime you might say that we were

[7:21] even born in this lifetime to discover

[7:24] divine mother uh and as we do hopefully

[7:28] the whole world will after us we're

[7:31] we're we're like put on the spot you

[7:34] know to recognize her find a great guru

[7:37] for her like we did with Shir Ramak

[7:39] Krishna follow her with the four yogas

[7:42] like Swami Vivikananda has asked us to

[7:45] do as vantas so this beautiful coming

[7:49] together of shakra va vanta and vanta

[7:53] itself and yoga is upon us to practice

[7:56] that's sadna and that will be the

[7:58] subject of my seminar next month when we

[8:02] uh when we come to that time but first

[8:05] of all we'll have this Lakshmi puja

[8:07] today and we'll have it next Sunday too

[8:09] I'll give I'll give four of the

[8:12] teachings on four of the astral lakshmis

[8:15] today and I hope get it all finished in

[8:18] our time and then the other four will

[8:20] come next Sunday the Sunday after that

[8:22] is kali puja so we're very fortunate to

[8:25] have these divine mother holy days

[8:28] falling on the Sundays so we can give

[8:31] classes. The Sunday after that, actually

[8:34] the Monday after that is Jagadatri Puja.

[8:37] She's the holder of the worlds. A very

[8:39] powerful aspect of Dorga. So we kind of

[8:41] started with Durga and we'll go through

[8:44] the goddess as she appears in Vashnavism

[8:47] and in Tantra and we'll end up back with

[8:49] a great form of of the of the mother of

[8:52] the worlds who holds the worlds. That

[8:54] will be that Sunday's class. So uh the

[8:58] only thing that can come after that

[8:59] besides a few weeks of rest where we can

[9:01] catch our breath after all the worship

[9:03] of these great powerful aspects of

[9:06] shockti will be holy mother's birthday

[9:08] in December our own shriardi so of

[9:11] course I included her in my opening

[9:13] chant today with the other great aspects

[9:16] lakshmi sorvati and dorga or ki that's

[9:19] often called tree davi in India it's one

[9:22] of the great uh condensed grouping of

[9:26] goddesses. If you want to really cut it

[9:28] down to its essence, it's hard to do

[9:30] with her because she's ever won. But she

[9:33] has so many essences and uh expressions

[9:37] of herself.

[9:40] Uh like with the thousand names of

[9:42] Lakshmi and Sahasham, we know that it

[9:46] can get that vast with her qualities and

[9:49] attributes that fill the worlds. Whether

[9:52] you look at the worlds as a Chiron

[9:54] Garba, a cosmic egg that was born from

[9:57] her union with Shiva

[10:00] and the tantric tradition and or whether

[10:02] you look at it through the Kashmir shism

[10:04] view where you've got this this nine uh

[10:08] nine uh tririconas stacked on top of

[10:11] each other called Shriantra and all the

[10:14] nine goddesses there and the nine

[10:16] helpers and the nine yogas to practice.

[10:18] We'll look at that too at that coming

[10:20] seminar next month.

[10:22] So we're rich in goddess teachings.

[10:25] We've been given a lot. But we do need

[10:27] to contemplate them. It's not enough in

[10:29] invadant just to shy to hear it. But you

[10:33] have to go then and uh roll it over in

[10:36] the mind and contemplate it. I was

[10:39] speaking on that just yesterday morning

[10:40] at sought song saying it's very

[10:42] important for us to not just to

[10:44] meditate, not just to hear and then

[10:46] meditate but to have time for

[10:48] contemplation in between. It's often an

[10:51] overlooked step, but that's what mana

[10:53] means in vanta. They want you to hear it

[10:56] and then go away

[10:58] into a forest or near a river or on a

[11:01] hike or away from the world, society,

[11:04] and so forth, and sit and just put your

[11:06] mind on those teachings for a period of

[11:09] time, an hour, a day, a week. Go to a

[11:11] three-day retreat. You can get those

[11:13] right here at SRV. or uh take take a a

[11:18] month or so to worship the goddess

[11:20] because we had that teaching Lord Vishna

[11:22] gives teaching of how to worship Sri

[11:25] Dora over a month's time not just nine

[11:28] days and we've we've looked at that

[11:31] before in one of our teaching charts. So

[11:34] back to the teaching charts you can see

[11:35] here if you get your first look at it uh

[11:38] because it would probably be good to

[11:39] give you an advanced notice of that but

[11:42] a very quick look for it through it so

[11:44] we can cover ground in these two weeks

[11:46] of time we you know two weeks means only

[11:49] you know an hour and uh 3 hours or so

[11:53] that we'll have to do this in the two

[11:55] week two Sundays but there you can see

[11:57] the beautiful chart there Mahalakshmi's

[11:59] eight divine aspects they're called the

[12:01] ashta Lakshmi because ashta means eight

[12:04] in Sanskrit. Subtitle there is the

[12:08] material and spiritual wealth of the

[12:10] goddess. Uh, so I looked at all the

[12:13] English words

[12:15] that could

[12:16] probably be better used in wealth

[12:19] because wealth of course has sort of a

[12:21] strange connotation attached to it

[12:23] especially in materialistic term country

[12:27] where people are so attached to wealth

[12:28] and have forgotten the divinity behind

[12:31] it right or how to use it correctly.

[12:34] Dharmic use of wealth that we'll get

[12:36] that teaching today as as we go through

[12:38] these these ashaki

[12:41] lakshmies. So I looked through all the

[12:44] words in English and just chose

[12:45] abundance because that will escape that

[12:48] kind of strange dichotomy uh that is

[12:53] attached to the word wealth and make it

[12:56] look like it can go beyond just getting

[12:59] wealth, lands, money, jewels, gold uh

[13:03] you know which is of course rampant in

[13:05] the society is what everyone wants. And

[13:08] even though they know somewhere inside

[13:10] of them, most everyone has heard by now

[13:11] that wealth cannot

[13:14] bring you love and cannot fulfill you

[13:15] spiritually, they'll still go after

[13:17] that. Um, so it sort of uh demonstrates

[13:22] the fact that we're not valuing

[13:24] spirituality

[13:26] or or the divine within us, the atman,

[13:29] the lord god. Put it in bakti terms, put

[13:32] it in terms of ganam. uh there there's

[13:36] only a small percentage of people uh who

[13:40] really value that kind of depth of

[13:42] spirituality even though there are you

[13:45] know several billion people in the world

[13:48] who do believe in God and then there's

[13:51] also several billion people in the world

[13:52] who do not believe in in God uh I forget

[13:56] the numbers right now but I looked them

[13:57] up a few months ago to see how many uh

[14:00] people were relig religious in the

[14:03] different religions of the world and how

[14:05] many were agnostic and atheist and uh

[14:08] and irreligious even against religion.

[14:11] So with that being the case here in the

[14:14] Burlo loca or in this physical world,

[14:17] it's a good subtitle for the the chart

[14:19] to say the material and spiritual wealth

[14:23] of the goddess so that we can go beyond

[14:25] that and find out what spiritual wealth

[14:28] consists of. Uh

[14:32] that's probably the accent you get in

[14:35] the Ki Kula family. Uh because you're

[14:38] taught to renounce and detach from from

[14:41] things that you know are usually

[14:43] considered uh what people want to

[14:45] possess. So the teaching is always vivik

[14:48] varog discriminate between the changing

[14:51] and the unchanging the essential and the

[14:53] non-essential then withdraw from the

[14:55] non-essential and the changing. So that

[14:58] puts you automatically poised to be able

[15:01] to receive a transmission of spiritual

[15:04] wealth from your guru uh from a guru

[15:06] who's teaching that kind of um kalikula

[15:10] transmission. So that's a very good

[15:12] advantage we have with mother kali and

[15:14] mother dorga. Uh but it shouldn't be

[15:16] missing in the shria family that is the

[15:19] family of Lakshmi. Um it's really not

[15:22] missing in terms of the family of

[15:25] Saraswati either but you have so much

[15:27] scriptural wisdom there. You've got

[15:29] goddesses like Guyatri and and uh you've

[15:34] got goddesses uh that uh

[15:39] like Cvitri, you know, that that really

[15:42] honor the scripture, the word and the

[15:44] arts and sciences, you know, like like

[15:47] music and poetry and so forth are

[15:50] focused on in that particular family of

[15:52] the mother, that aspect of the mother,

[15:55] that third family. And there's two other

[15:57] families in India of goddess worshippers

[15:59] that are not quite as prominent as these

[16:01] three. Basically you've got tree davi

[16:03] again family of kalidorga the family of

[16:06] lakshmi and the family of Sarasati and

[16:09] under each one of those goddesses falls

[16:11] a whole host of her helpers you know

[16:14] been calling them like the avar as we

[16:17] studied a few weeks ago. So basically

[16:22] you can see here that in the family of

[16:24] Mahalakshmi she has eight divine helpers

[16:27] or aspects too. We can go through it

[16:29] real quick. Um there you see Adi Lakshmi

[16:34] and then here remember I'm using the

[16:36] word abundance then across the board

[16:40] uh dana Lakshmi. So there's spiritual

[16:43] abundance coming from Adi the original

[16:46] Lakshmi. Adi means the original or

[16:48] foremost and then material abundance

[16:51] coming from Dana Lakshmi and then from

[16:54] da Lakshmi you'll have the abundance of

[16:57] prasad that is food crops and and

[17:01] various things to eat and sustain

[17:03] yourself with and then daria lakshmi is

[17:06] an abundance of courage

[17:09] uh gaja lakshmi is this fifth she's the

[17:12] abundance of of uh of uh noble

[17:17] power,

[17:18] how to how to handle power correctly.

[17:21] That would be very helpful, wouldn't it?

[17:23] In today's world amongst our leaders,

[17:25] how to how to be noble when you have

[17:26] power given to you and not become

[17:29] corrupted by it. For instance, uh sana

[17:32] Lakshmi is is number six. Abundance of

[17:35] family, the blessings of a family is

[17:39] very important in the in the three shria

[17:42] family. And then you have uh vijaya

[17:45] lakshmi that's abundance of achievement.

[17:48] Vijaya vijaya mean great victory right?

[17:51] So you we want great victory over all

[17:54] the problems of of the earth and so

[17:56] forth. Uh the how to how to attain um

[18:02] uh victory over challenges and trials

[18:06] and uh always hold your own in the world

[18:08] of embodiment. Uh then you have

[18:10] Vigilakshmi

[18:12] and this is where the word the

[18:14] expression last but not least comes in.

[18:17] She's very she's very prominent. It's

[18:19] why she connects where very well back to

[18:22] Adi Lakshmi abundance of of

[18:24] spirituality. So basically that's the

[18:26] abundance of wisdom that we find so

[18:29] prominent and prevalent in the Sarasati

[18:32] family with again with goddesses like

[18:34] Kayatri and and Sabitri. So not to get

[18:38] too confused or overwhelmed by too many

[18:40] aspects of God. uh you might say this is

[18:45] one of the beautiful things of

[18:46] contemplating the non-dual Brahman is

[18:49] because uh if if you can if you can rise

[18:52] to the occasion which is the occasion of

[18:54] formlessness like like samadei or in

[18:57] deep sleep then you know it's a very u

[19:01] uh profoundly simple experience samadei

[19:05] natural like sahaja it's called sahaja

[19:08] samadei but if you look into the worlds

[19:11] the the worlds the realms of these

[19:13] chakras, these different locas, these

[19:17] these these different um avaras we're

[19:20] calling them and uh all the trionas of

[19:25] the shriantra or shri chakra it's called

[19:28] you'll find how complex that is and in a

[19:31] very beautiful orderly way that's very

[19:34] fulfilling and that's what we find with

[19:36] Mahalakmi she's she's there on the scene

[19:40] you know to infill all of this with

[19:43] abundance so that you can get the most

[19:46] out of your experience in on earth in

[19:49] the world and in the heavens too. The

[19:51] the harakasha they talk about and uh so

[19:54] that's very important to u millions of

[19:57] beings who worship the divine mother. Uh

[20:00] that's just a quick introduc

[20:02] introduction to the astralis lakshmis

[20:06] for you. Um, and we want to take these

[20:09] one at a time to give them a little bit

[20:11] more accent, but it's a it's a chart.

[20:16] Um, we can start out with its very

[20:19] central um quote here.

[20:23] Real abundance is a plentitude of

[20:25] wisdom, particularly of the non-dual

[20:28] type,

[20:30] combined with the ability to renounce

[20:32] what is changeful, reject what is

[20:35] elucory, and undergo a host of

[20:37] austerities

[20:39] even in the midst of wealth, success,

[20:41] and enjoyments.

[20:43] It conduces to the fullness of knowing

[20:45] God as it truly is. So if you want to

[20:49] know the non-dual Brahman, then of

[20:51] course you're not going to be able to do

[20:53] so if you're attached to outer things,

[20:56] external things like the external world

[20:58] or the body or the senses or objects.

[21:02] That's all yogic 101 teaching, isn't it?

[21:04] We've we've had that for decades and

[21:07] decades when we first came to true yoga.

[21:10] Uh so we got that teaching of the

[21:12] detachment from senses and objects and

[21:15] then the dissolution of everything back

[21:17] into the subtle senses and the subtle

[21:20] objects in dream further dissolution

[21:22] back into formlessness and deep sleep.

[21:24] So this is the way um one awakens to

[21:28] spirituality and starts the inward

[21:31] inward ascension we call the spiritual

[21:33] journey. Uh so that's u why this

[21:38] non-dual wisdom becomes prevalent in the

[21:42] shaky path and Mahalakmi is not one to

[21:45] stint on that either.

[21:48] Um

[21:49] let's jump right into the uh

[21:51] accompanying charts then and look at um

[21:56] this um

[22:01] this first ailaki. All wealth is of the

[22:05] soul and requires inner peace so as to

[22:08] be able to lead to liberation.

[22:10] So you see that people are wealthy but

[22:13] they don't have peace of mind. Right? So

[22:15] that's a problem. Uh and um

[22:19] I think I put it up here that we can see

[22:24] some aspects of peace. How to get peace

[22:27] so that you can handle wealth properly

[22:30] so that it will lead to liberation.

[22:33] We'll look at that in in soon because

[22:35] one of the great mother teachings is

[22:37] four-fold dharma ara kama and mokia. You

[22:42] want righteous use of all of this

[22:44] abundance and and that you get a chance

[22:48] to do that when you're granted the

[22:49] second fruit by mother called ara and

[22:52] then you're getting a chance to fulfill

[22:54] yourself rather than get way laid by

[22:57] attachment in kama which is desire for

[23:00] legitimate fulfillment of of earthly

[23:04] wealth that you've received. Everyone

[23:06] according to their own karma gets their

[23:09] abundance of wealth or lack of wealth

[23:12] depending. And then this of of course

[23:14] the beautiful thing leads to moia or

[23:16] mukti. It's called liberation. So the

[23:19] four-fold fruits of life we can look at

[23:21] that in a minute to make sure we uh

[23:23] reassess that here with the ailakshi

[23:28] sheakshmi. He really wants to make sure

[23:32] that um everything that we receive is

[23:35] received uh with equan economy you see

[23:40] of mind. You want to be economous in

[23:43] your re receal of wealth and the passing

[23:46] of wealth. It has to pass through you

[23:49] and it's the same with material wealth

[23:51] as it is with spiritual wealth. the

[23:53] spiritual wealth will all of a sudden

[23:55] become much more uh meaningful in your

[23:58] life and much more prevalent in your

[23:59] mind if you can do this with sata in

[24:03] mind or with peace of mind is the goal.

[24:05] So here you see some uh we'll go through

[24:09] uh some of this uh these prescribed

[24:12] pathways to this creassence of mind.

[24:15] They they say they're basically you can

[24:17] look at these

[24:19] in uh seven different ways to get peace.

[24:23] You can get it through devotion bakti

[24:26] and many people have that deep devotion

[24:28] for Mahalakshmi or those bashnavas for

[24:30] instance followers of Krishna followers

[24:33] of shriam at the top there you see bakti

[24:36] is the greatest uh path towards peace

[24:39] you have that love of god peace of mind

[24:41] comes to you almost naturally uh another

[24:44] way is through dian yoga meditation

[24:48] peace people have said peace comes to

[24:50] you via meditation

[24:53] And then going down the left hand side

[24:56] by controlling the mind that's called

[24:58] sadna. Uh calming the chittis of the

[25:02] mind is called in yoga by patanjali. You

[25:05] want to control the mind so that it's

[25:08] always even uh in in in the coming and

[25:11] going of of wealth both material and

[25:14] spiritual. You you remain very

[25:16] even-minded about it. We're just going

[25:18] to go around the circle there. The the

[25:20] fourth thing is ananda. Uh by seeking

[25:23] bliss of course peace will be demanded

[25:26] of that. The fifth is atma vichara. You

[25:30] can get peace through self inquiry as

[25:33] famous path of uh of uh

[25:37] nettini they call it or atma vichara

[25:40] which was practiced early on and

[25:42] probably evidenced most most uh recently

[25:46] by Ramano Maharshi when he took up that

[25:49] path but the ancient ones you go back to

[25:53] Lord Bishta for that he teaches atma

[25:55] vichara in the uh yoga bishta scripture

[25:59] So you can find everything about how to

[26:02] um inquire into the nature of your true

[26:05] self. How that gives you peace is that

[26:08] the ego will never give you peace. You

[26:10] might have discovered that. So you you

[26:13] want to go move away from the ego and

[26:15] detach which is again one of those

[26:18] beautiful teachings of the Kalikula

[26:20] family is detach renounce and then the

[26:23] ego is then not given charge anymore and

[26:27] you begin to take refuge in the divine

[26:30] mother and that's uh that's this u

[26:36] wonderful way of which you can get

[26:38] purity of mind. Uh then next and

[26:41] penultimate is the nish kama karma. You

[26:46] can just give up all your fruits of uh

[26:49] desire for the fruits of your action.

[26:51] Krishna says that in the Gita he has

[26:55] four ways in which you can you can

[26:58] slowly and gradually make your way

[27:01] towards peace of mind. And he says in

[27:04] the end if nothing works then try nama

[27:07] karma. Try not desiring the fruits of

[27:09] your action and just do all actions for

[27:12] the Lord alone and give up all actions

[27:14] for the ego again or for other other

[27:18] beings. You can serve them but u you you

[27:22] can't become embroiled in in their own

[27:25] uh ability or inability to become

[27:29] satisfied by what's served to them. Then

[27:32] you have that last way of c peace of

[27:36] mind called ganam wisdom about atman and

[27:40] maya. So the atmaan as we just said and

[27:44] what she's saying here in the beautiful

[27:46] chart we were just looking at the cover

[27:48] chart that's one of ashi's and and also

[27:52] uh the divine mother's uh main

[27:56] uh conccommatants for for gaining peace

[28:00] of mind. The quote here from the

[28:02] satosharopon shad says like oil present

[28:05] in sesame seeds

[28:08] patina concealed in copper that's that

[28:11] green stuff that comes out you put a

[28:13] penny near moisture for a while and gold

[28:17] are gold hidden in rivers the wise seek

[28:21] for that special quality of equinimity

[28:23] of mind that abides deep within the ever

[28:27] peaceful atman which is of course the

[28:29] true self as contrasted to the ego self

[28:33] which can never bring about that

[28:35] fulfillment. So this is a a beautiful

[28:39] illustration in the background of gold

[28:41] ore hidden in rivers. We have to be that

[28:44] um conscious to be able to see the gold

[28:48] of the otman

[28:50] that divine mother is shining upon us as

[28:53] our own inner qualities uh from her

[28:56] aspects and then go mining. Go mining a

[29:00] mind uh the internal part of the mind

[29:03] and stop mining external nature only.

[29:06] That's only material wealth there if you

[29:08] can get it because that's even sometimes

[29:11] difficult to get except for a few

[29:13] fortunate ones. And then those few

[29:15] fortunate ones, some of them are divided

[29:17] then into those who are worthy of using

[29:20] wealth and those who are unworthy of

[29:22] getting it. There's there's ways of

[29:24] getting wealth uh unjustly in the world.

[29:27] you may have noticed and people have

[29:30] that and uh then it begins to bring them

[29:33] not only lack of peace of mind but

[29:35] karmas untold. So that's a rundown of a

[29:40] very simple chart which is a very old

[29:42] chart we put out early in early times in

[29:44] SRV. So why were we looking at it?

[29:47] Because we wanted to as we go back to

[29:50] the Mahalakshmi chart, we wanted to

[29:52] flesh out what Adilakshmi means when she

[29:55] says all wealth is of the soul but it

[29:59] requires inner peace to be effective for

[30:02] liberation.

[30:04] So we can see lifetimes of wealth could

[30:07] be lived but you could never get

[30:08] knowledge or samadei like Sham Krishna

[30:11] had. Just look at India at the state

[30:14] when Sharma Krishna came you know it was

[30:16] in dire straits

[30:18] uh and look at America today how there's

[30:22] this huge gap between the wealthy and

[30:23] the poor and uh you know the shrinking

[30:27] middle class they call it and so forth

[30:29] how some are just hogging the wealth and

[30:31] others are unable to get it that's two

[30:34] kinds of karmas there that's going on

[30:37] but the people in between that are able

[30:40] to to gain sufficient wealth, sufficient

[30:44] food, sufficient clothing, sufficient

[30:47] housing are those beings who worship the

[30:50] divine mother of the universe or worship

[30:52] God. She provides them with everything

[30:54] they need. And that's the meaning of

[30:56] Mahalakshmi. She's the goddess of

[30:58] abundance. She's the goddess of

[31:00] provision. She's the goddess of

[31:02] sustenance. That's huge in the Shri Shri

[31:05] Kula family of India. That's what um the

[31:08] devities of the goddess run towards in

[31:11] her.

[31:14] There's one Lakshmi we've looked at then

[31:16] one of the eight. Let's look across to

[31:18] Donna Lakshmi.

[31:20] Dharmic wealth is used for the

[31:22] collective good of all not for the the

[31:25] ego.

[31:27] It's also used for charity. So in that

[31:31] way then let's look and make sure what

[31:33] we know what dharmic wealth is all

[31:34] about. We're going to be running through

[31:37] four quick charts with four um small

[31:42] short dissertations on four lakshmies.

[31:46] That's what this class is all about. So

[31:47] you see there this chart comes up to in

[31:51] in accord with Donna Lakshmi. Um, and

[31:56] so,

[31:58] uh, in this this chart, what I did was

[32:00] combine the four fruits of life with the

[32:03] four boons of life because I thought

[32:06] that's a mother teaching too that's very

[32:08] important. So, you can see first the

[32:11] divine mother's boons to us. Those

[32:14] people who are receiving just enough for

[32:17] their sustenance and their happiness and

[32:19] their contentment and their peace,

[32:21] they're not receiving

[32:23] additional about that more than they

[32:26] need because it might threaten their

[32:28] peace of mind. It might threaten their

[32:33] search for spirituality.

[32:35] So there's there beings who are she's

[32:38] treating very tenderly in that way.

[32:40] She's she's got in mind for them the

[32:42] fourth fruit liberation.

[32:45] But beings can come can run ary of that

[32:49] goal of liberation if they don't have

[32:51] dharma art and kama first. It's a very

[32:53] important teaching. I've even seen

[32:56] recently some of the more they call them

[32:58] the TV guras nowadays are not teaching

[33:01] the right order of these four fruits.

[33:03] They're having you get wealth first. You

[33:05] can have an abundant life. come we can

[33:09] give you money just like we have but

[33:11] there's no dharma first then then that's

[33:15] uh transgressing mother's great great u

[33:19] dharmic law of the four fruits so the

[33:22] four bo then are are wonderful to look

[33:25] at uh yatus yatam is manu yatram is the

[33:29] human birth

[33:32] and uh as of yesterday in satsang one

[33:36] question came up uh how important in his

[33:38] holy company. So I gave a good five or

[33:41] 10 minute talk on that at satsang

[33:43] yesterday about the importance of sadu

[33:46] satsa

[33:48] shankar says you know satsang

[33:53] moati

[34:01] you get mti or liberation from life uh

[34:05] by first having holy company. So holy

[34:08] body is what's going to be needed to get

[34:09] holy company. Then uh man sees man,

[34:13] woman sees woman, man sees woman, woman

[34:15] sees man. The uh the great teachers are

[34:19] both of rishies were were both male and

[34:21] female. They have teachings to give to

[34:23] you if you have the humility and

[34:25] patience to to go sit in front of them

[34:29] and share like we did yesterday at

[34:31] satsang with a group of people the great

[34:34] teachings of India. And then what?

[34:38] Contemplate them. Go somewhere and

[34:40] contemplate them. And then come back for

[34:42] more. And then go some prayer and

[34:44] contemplate those. This is a constant

[34:46] way of getting rid of negative karmas in

[34:48] the mind. Better than that, after

[34:50] negative karmas are gone, it it begins

[34:52] to build good samscaras in your mind. So

[34:56] then you're born with um

[34:59] with the ability to know yourself in in

[35:02] the next lifetime.

[35:05] Remember Christian had a very beautiful

[35:06] story. He said a man bought some land

[35:09] near a river.

[35:14] He went to look at his land. So he's

[35:16] walking around that land and wondering,

[35:17] "Oh god, how much work I'm going to have

[35:19] to do to get the water from that river

[35:21] all the way to my field so I can

[35:23] irrigate it and plant. It's going to

[35:26] take me days and weeks of working and

[35:28] digging. It's going to be backbreaking

[35:31] and sweating in the hot sun." So he's

[35:34] walking around thinking about that but

[35:35] he started chanting the mantra of the

[35:37] mother of the mother of uh of food the

[35:42] the mother of abundance Lakshmi started

[35:44] chanting her mantra as he walked around

[35:48] the land thinking well I'll just have to

[35:49] do the work all of a sudden he his foot

[35:52] brushed against a hidden hose in the

[35:55] ground and it started gushing water so

[35:58] Sham Krishna said imagine his relief and

[36:01] joy

[36:03] Now he doesn't. It just saved him weeks

[36:05] and weeks of work. What does all this

[36:07] mean?

[36:08] It means that some people are born into

[36:10] life with spiritual wherewithal.

[36:13] Some people are not born with that. Why?

[36:16] Because they didn't do spiritual

[36:17] practice in their previous lifetime.

[36:20] Those who are standing in front of us

[36:22] right now are great teachers. The great

[36:24] beings who come to us have mastered life

[36:27] uh master they become masters of life

[36:29] and mind and the remover of the misery

[36:32] of the devities by practicing soden in a

[36:35] previous lifetime. Uh of course there

[36:37] are some that are past masters. They

[36:40] never had to practice. They're just

[36:41] perfect souls. Yes, those exist too. But

[36:44] the ones usually that come to earth to

[36:46] teachers have gone through the ladder of

[36:48] involution. They've they've they've

[36:51] mounted the ladder and they've memorized

[36:53] the steps like our Patanjalis and our

[36:57] Lord Copulas and beings like that uh

[37:01] like like Brigu and his line whom whom

[37:04] Durga was born from at one time

[37:07] basically they've mastered these steps

[37:08] and then come back to tell you about

[37:10] them. So that's what he means about the

[37:12] foot bumping against a hidden hose.

[37:14] These people just come with all of this

[37:17] available and then all of a sudden it

[37:19] comes gushing out of them. Other people

[37:21] are standing around saying God's injust.

[37:25] He gave that person wisdom and he didn't

[37:27] give us anything in this lifetime. But

[37:29] that's not the case. It's all a matter

[37:31] of karma and practice. And that's the

[37:33] beautiful purifying message of mother

[37:36] India against the uh the the whole idea

[37:39] of salvation and sin. For instance,

[37:43] contrast to that, this is a much better

[37:45] way, much more wise way of looking at at

[37:48] your own life and people's predicament

[37:51] here on earth. So practice the real

[37:54] lesson he's trying to to give you is

[37:57] what?

[37:59] Do sodena now.

[38:03] Do sodena now.

[38:07] When

[38:09] so what is your sadena? I say go get a

[38:13] human body which you have great get holy

[38:16] company great hear the teachings then

[38:19] what do you do you go and contemplate

[38:21] them that's part of your sadna don't

[38:24] just jump into meditation you can

[38:26] meditate 10 or 20 years without the

[38:28] wisdom and you won't go go anywhere you

[38:31] won't get enlightenment it's happening

[38:32] all the time with thousands of people

[38:35] particularly in the west today

[38:37] contemplate those teachings and

[38:39] understand them drive them deep into

[38:42] your minds some scars come out next time

[38:46] shining didn't I give that teaching

[38:48] yesterday you always give the elephant

[38:51] its bath when

[38:54] at the end of the day because if you

[38:57] give it at the beginning of the day when

[38:58] it's wet it'll just roll and get muddy

[39:00] the bath was useless. So the elephant

[39:03] driver puts the elephant in the in his

[39:06] bath stall, gives him a bath at night

[39:08] and puts him straight into his stall and

[39:10] the animal falls asleep, comes out in

[39:12] the morning all dry and all clean.

[39:14] Doesn't matter if it rolls.

[39:17] So that's how you prepare for your life

[39:20] in the future should you have one. And

[39:23] who knows if you're going to or not?

[39:25] Maybe only you do, but the mother knows.

[39:29] And so we we uh beseech her. I was

[39:32] thinking of nice words, you know, to to

[39:34] to

[39:37] use in terms of propitiate or make

[39:40] offering to or surrender to we beseech

[39:44] her, you know, for for the ability to do

[39:47] soda now. Do sodena now, not later.

[39:53] Not a post-mortem emancipation. we're

[39:56] we're interested in. It's the knowledge

[39:58] that we are free at this moment and

[40:01] there's a veil in front of knowing that

[40:03] soda dissolves that veil.

[40:07] So mother's four boons uh are very

[40:10] important. You see what's the third one?

[40:12] Uh then you have a desire to be free

[40:17] said and vavas concurred afterward.

[40:21] fathers of yoga and vodata who said u

[40:24] you know there are people who are born

[40:27] with a desire for freedom but they never

[40:29] realize it

[40:31] lifetime after lifetime. It's the first

[40:33] kind of yogi of four kinds of yogi

[40:35] actually five kinds of yogis and yoginis

[40:39] uh is that one who is born to be free

[40:41] but doesn't realize it in that lifetime.

[40:45] I used to think is that well I really

[40:47] like I really great that you can play

[40:49] the piano. It was I I played piano once

[40:54] uh and uh I never pursued it. I never

[40:58] mastered it. I just played it a little

[41:00] while and let it go. So I heard that a

[41:02] lot in my musical career with people and

[41:05] musicians.

[41:06] But that person who centered on the

[41:08] piano, concentrated on the piano,

[41:10] learned the piano, mastered the piano,

[41:12] concertized the piano and offered music

[41:15] to the divine, existing in the hearts

[41:18] and minds of all beings was the master

[41:20] of piano from then and from then on.

[41:23] See, so that's that's what's meant by

[41:26] this ability to um not only just desire

[41:30] for freedom, but to attain it the

[41:33] ability to have it right now. Otherwise,

[41:36] it just passes people by every lifetime.

[41:39] Oh, I really wish I could have gotten

[41:41] free. Oh, I didn't get free. Woe is me.

[41:44] I'm going to hell. Or I'm not I'm not I

[41:47] have to have another lifetime. I have to

[41:48] work out my karma.

[41:51] Vivananda said, "Blast your karma. Take

[41:53] your karma and wind it up in a bag and

[41:55] throw it in the nearby river and be free

[41:57] right now." And so what's going to help

[42:00] you do that according to mother's boons

[42:02] here is a human birth some holy company

[42:07] and some spiritual practice and a desire

[42:10] for freedom. The fourth one is a pure

[42:12] mind chit chudy and that really

[42:15] emphasizes what I just said about

[42:18] bumping a hose and watching water gush

[42:20] out. Uh that pure mind is what you're

[42:23] seeing uh wi with people who already

[42:26] have got spirituality when they arrived

[42:29] here and we've met a few of them in our

[42:31] lifetimes like our gurus.

[42:35] Then then we can look at with that said

[42:37] at divine mother's four fruits of life.

[42:40] Uh dharma is first as we said then ara

[42:45] then kama then mokia. So dharma is of

[42:48] course spiritual life per se. Uh that's

[42:52] a good definition for it in English.

[42:54] Righteousness doesn't quite do it.

[42:56] Again, that word has a kind of um

[43:00] stigma attached to it. Righteous,

[43:02] unrighteous, you know, better than thou,

[43:06] holier than thou kind of stigma attached

[43:07] to it. So look at it and say that to

[43:10] live a spiritual life is dharma. That's

[43:13] dharma. And uh then right livelihood

[43:17] comes that anything that comes to you is

[43:18] done inside of that dharmic mind that is

[43:22] always uh grounded in spiritual practice

[43:26] and spiritual realization. And then

[43:28] finally the desires that arise in your

[43:31] mind they will get fulfilled. Holy

[43:34] mother used to say that my children

[43:36] don't worry about the desires that come

[43:37] up in your mind. The more they come up

[43:40] and the more they go the better for you.

[43:42] So he says, "You're going to satisfy

[43:44] them because you've taken refuge in me,

[43:47] the mother. Their desires will come up.

[43:49] They'll get satisfied and they won't

[43:51] rise anymore." That's called

[43:56] what do you ask God for? Near Vasa, she

[44:00] said. See, so if you see God, if you

[44:04] can, then ask him for this boon near

[44:07] Vasana. May my desires all be satisfied

[44:10] so that I won't be drugged from birth to

[44:12] death and death to birth again. My soul

[44:15] won't be dragged from here and there. Uh

[44:18] as Vivicananda said in his beautiful

[44:21] poem. So um same for your desires then

[44:26] your desires will get fulfilled your

[44:27] your livelihood will get fulfilled and

[44:29] finally you will get that moia and uh

[44:33] there's a quote down here by divine

[44:35] mother the pure mind does not easily

[44:39] become pure but remember the mind is

[44:42] everything you will have to carry the

[44:44] mind with you when you try and realize

[44:47] Brahman so at the present stage the mind

[44:50] is very important

[44:52] It is the pure mind that shows man the

[44:54] way. One fulfills all desires in this

[44:57] life and reaches liberation when the

[45:00] mind becomes steady. Shall we go back

[45:03] and look at the

[45:06] how the mind becomes steady and see

[45:09] different ways in which you can ensure

[45:11] with your sadna done now in this

[45:14] lifetime.

[45:16] You've got at least seven choices there

[45:19] in which to make the mind steady and

[45:21] make it peaceful so that your desires

[45:23] will not rise up again in later in this

[45:27] lifetime or in another lifetime. and uh

[45:30] therefore u uh swerve you off the track

[45:34] of of the goal of life particularly in

[45:37] terms of moka or mukti liberation.

[45:43] Shamak Krishna adds his two bits in here

[45:45] if you want to call it that a man is

[45:47] born to no purpose who having received

[45:50] the priceless boon of a human body is

[45:52] unable to realize God in this lifetime.

[45:55] So this is going to be emphasized by

[45:59] both the Kali Khula family in India,

[46:01] mother worshippers of Durgakali and the

[46:04] Shri Kula family of Chipura, Sundari and

[46:06] Lolita and Mahalakshmi. Those families

[46:09] will concur with this absolutely that

[46:12] you you need to have that human body for

[46:14] one and then you need to dedicate it to

[46:18] the service of the divine mother and the

[46:20] lord the universe and that's

[46:24] sharagata that's self-surrender and then

[46:27] everything that will happen to you will

[46:29] happen in terms of these fours you'll

[46:32] see you'll get a human body holy company

[46:35] desire for freedom a pure mind you'll

[46:38] you'll uh live a dharmic life. You'll

[46:41] you'll get right livelihood without any

[46:44] impediments in the way and all your

[46:46] desires will be legitimate and they'll

[46:49] get fulfilled landing ending in mokia or

[46:52] liberation.

[46:54] So that's a quick run through of a of a

[46:59] chart that's actually uh a teaching

[47:01] that's not very complex anyway the four

[47:04] fruits but it's just one of the

[47:05] signature mother teachings.

[47:10] So we've looked at Adi Lakshmi and Dana

[47:13] Lakshmi. Now let's look at da Lakshmi.

[47:17] Plentitude of food comes from conscious

[47:20] offering to the deities within

[47:24] and in the five elements. So there are

[47:27] deities that we've looked at that occupy

[47:31] um

[47:33] earth, air, fire, water, and ether like

[47:36] the sun god, the goddess of the moon, uh

[47:39] the goddess of fire agny, the goddess of

[47:42] the sun sura

[47:44] and moon chandra. So there are the way

[47:47] India Indian philosophy looks at this is

[47:50] there deities in everything and it's a

[47:52] beautiful way of gaining back respect

[47:55] and reverence for nature and for forms

[47:59] because a lot of that has gone by the

[48:00] wayside now hasn't it? There's not a lot

[48:03] of respect for for u nature and the five

[48:07] elements and the living entities that

[48:10] that that abide in it. Nor is there a

[48:13] lot of reverence or respect for any gods

[48:16] or goddesses in western culture. They're

[48:19] pretty much we pretty much abandon them

[48:22] along with abandoning our ancestors. So

[48:25] there's levels of consciousness that

[48:27] will only be found as you medit as you

[48:29] contemplate in the teachings and open up

[48:31] the nadis passageways of the mind back

[48:34] inside to the kingdom of heaven within

[48:37] you. You'll find the ancestors first

[48:39] then you'll find the deities next.

[48:42] different levels of a pantheon of

[48:43] deities existing right inside of you as

[48:46] if there is no other place for them to

[48:49] be except within you. So this is what is

[48:52] meant by abundance of pride. You have to

[48:56] make everything an offering to the lord.

[49:00] And so to do that you make everything an

[49:03] offering to the god of fire. For

[49:04] instance like we did a couple weeks ago

[49:07] at our retreat. uh did a beautiful fire

[49:10] ceremony before durapuja

[49:12] and and uh s offered it all to Sri Ramak

[49:16] Krishna Bhagabate Shri Ramak Krishna

[49:21] we said and then offer we all offered

[49:23] things into the fire there at sunset out

[49:26] in the woods beautiful uh uh ceremony we

[49:29] did and then we did the full 10 article

[49:32] worship of divine mother dura after that

[49:35] so that's all offering of everything

[49:38] here to everything within. Everything

[49:41] really is the goddess, but she has

[49:44] aspects. We're finding that out. And

[49:46] inside of those aspects are there to

[49:48] make offerings to so that the beings

[49:51] that abide under the control of those

[49:54] aspects also get their due. And without

[49:57] doing that, then the culture becomes

[49:59] worldly, becomes materialistic, and it

[50:02] becomes ridden with karma. Bane

[50:04] painbearing karma as you're seeing

[50:06] happen to all the materialistically

[50:09] oriented um countries in the west in

[50:13] recent times and where where their

[50:15] armies went to what happened to peace

[50:18] and why war came and why the goddess

[50:22] were perpetuated the gods were

[50:24] perpetuated in the wrong way and not

[50:27] made adequate sacrifices to in the

[50:30] dharma first dharma principle A himsa

[50:34] nonviolence second truthfulness

[50:37] third non covetousness of other people's

[50:41] properties and goods I mean just go back

[50:44] to the teachings of yoga the yamas and

[50:46] yamas and you've got the dharma right

[50:48] there how to live

[50:50] and so they transgressed that so they

[50:53] suffered they fell and the fell because

[50:57] the gods and goddesses got put off by

[50:59] that kind of adheric life they didn't

[51:01] want to come to Earth. Who would the

[51:04] saviors came to earth wasn't a picnic

[51:07] for them we found out?

[51:09] So basically this is all about da lakshi

[51:13] but lakshmi but it can be put in terms

[51:16] of um

[51:19] a deeper teaching

[51:23] and of course given by our divine mother

[51:25] shishara Davi. So whereas these two

[51:28] charts I just showed you are what you

[51:30] call old war horses, this chart is very

[51:34] new. I I think we showed it once. So she

[51:37] says there um uh that

[51:42] her famous teaching from pure food one

[51:44] gets pure blood and from pure blood one

[51:48] gets a strong and pure mind

[51:51] then one gets pa that's ecstatic love

[51:54] for God. So holy mother's great teaching

[51:58] about how to render everything here pure

[52:00] and then make it an offering to the

[52:02] deities within you and to the lord and

[52:05] to the mother herself. Right? So this is

[52:08] like the divine mother coming forth as

[52:11] da lakshmi saying where are my offerings

[52:13] my children why aren't you thinking of

[52:15] me every bite every bite you put in your

[52:19] mouth without thinking of me turns to

[52:22] poison. Holy mother said you first offer

[52:25] everything in in front of you that

[52:28] you've prepared or cooked

[52:30] uh with the mantra you know and then

[52:33] then after it's the food is purified and

[52:36] offered to the deities then you take it

[52:39] that's the deity of the tongue right

[52:42] first that's the deity of smell next

[52:47] deity of sight then the deity of touch

[52:51] the food being swallowed the deity of uh

[52:56] ether right that everything exists on I

[53:00] almost brought the chart brahmar panam

[53:02] brah mahavir brahanautam

[53:05] the great food blessing by Sri Krishna

[53:07] nita you can see how each one of those

[53:10] words about Brahman uh adds up in that

[53:13] chant to sanctified food and how to

[53:15] offer it to Brahman we say it all the

[53:17] time have we gone and contemplated it

[53:20] recently

[53:21] quietly with a pure mind anywhere that

[53:24] if you do that then you're following the

[53:26] dharma and the mind will follow you

[53:31] so quickly here uh you can see some of

[53:34] the great facets of her teaching

[53:37] uh

[53:42] you can see uh the four types of clarity

[53:46] that's called ana prasad clarity of food

[53:49] chitta prasad clarity of mind some

[53:52] prasade clarity of mood

[53:55] and adyatma prasade clarity of spirit

[53:58] this is an ancient teaching in India

[54:00] that you really don't find so well

[54:03] fleshed out anywhere else in the world

[54:06] you people sit down and have food they

[54:08] may offer it to a deity or offer it to

[54:10] god but if you want to go deeper with it

[54:12] this is what's really happening the food

[54:14] has to be made pure the mind has to be

[54:18] its thoughts have to be made pure And

[54:21] the mood in which you prepare the food,

[54:23] offer the food and take the food also

[54:26] has to be clear and equal.

[54:29] That's why peace of mind is so

[54:30] important. And then the uh the uh the

[54:36] spirit in which everything is done uh is

[54:40] has to be positive. Everything has to be

[54:42] rendered clear and positive. And that's

[54:46] teaching the four types of food which

[54:48] she summated down when she said from

[54:50] pure food one gets pure blood then gets

[54:53] pure energy and one gets pure mind and

[54:56] then one gets pure love. So all of this

[54:59] is a way how to treat everything here

[55:01] dharmically so that art and kama are

[55:04] fulfilled and that mokia comes without

[55:07] any impediments in the way because

[55:09] there's lots of places in the realm of

[55:11] art and kama that can u act as blockages

[55:15] to people. They're always falling and

[55:17] tripping over those stones because

[55:20] dharma wasn't put first like nonviolence

[55:23] like truthfulness like non- covetousness

[55:28] uh and and more

[55:30] always have to check it against that. Um

[55:34] I put here another beautiful teaching

[55:36] from India. There are to to sort of uh

[55:41] complete this there there are subtle

[55:43] defects in food that you can get rid of

[55:46] by following this this earlier four

[55:48] teachings

[55:50] um that usually don't get removed by

[55:53] people's prayers. I can say that much.

[55:56] Uh thank you God. And Sham Krishna said

[55:58] why should you thank God for something

[56:00] that's just given to you automatically?

[56:03] Do do you you know

[56:06] do do you give birth to children and

[56:08] have the neighbors take care of them and

[56:10] thank them? It's all like within you.

[56:13] >> So that means that these subtle defects

[56:16] collect over time from deities not being

[56:19] appeased in the proper way dharmically

[56:23] throughout a whole period of time of

[56:25] your life and therefore defects are are

[56:28] are um appearing in the crops of your

[56:31] field. That's why we're going to get to

[56:33] her the goddess of agriculture soon. So

[56:38] basically uh these are the four subtle

[56:41] defects that people don't think about

[56:43] much. First they do think about

[56:45] infertile soil lacking in water and

[56:48] sunshine sunshine.

[56:50] Uh and then food grown in farms and

[56:53] fields where profit is the main concern.

[56:55] People don't think that uh unless

[56:58] they're living as dharmic and they're

[57:00] sharing the food with others and u

[57:02] they're trading uh and uh they're not

[57:05] demanding too much price for their work

[57:08] everything is just and fair then that

[57:10] can be that kind of defect can be u

[57:14] overcome. But basically an industry

[57:17] that's becoming less and less likely

[57:19] that uh with uh all of the uh greed

[57:23] that's involved with making as much

[57:25] money as possible on any given crop the

[57:28] food begins to soak in that vibration

[57:30] and become impure and that's not the

[57:33] pure food that shishara wants you to

[57:35] eat. If you eat that food then you

[57:37] better be doing some very strong sodna

[57:39] to remove the defects in that impure

[57:42] food that you're taking in some like I

[57:44] have to teach people in prison this for

[57:47] for decades. Well, how do we practice

[57:50] that art of pure food in prison? We're

[57:54] just having to eat what they give us. So

[57:56] I said, well, here's a mantra for you

[57:57] and here's a way to think about it so

[57:59] that you can remove these de defects

[58:01] with your mind before you eat the food.

[58:03] you can reduce the negative in them.

[58:07] That's why you hear in India sometimes a

[58:09] vegetarian monk you know never got

[58:12] enlightened but this man who ate pork

[58:15] got enlightened as such odd things

[58:18] happen. Uh it's because the vegetarian

[58:21] monk evidently didn't have the right

[58:23] mindset when he was taking his food. But

[58:26] this man who was eating meat, he did

[58:28] have the right mindset and he could he

[58:30] had the power to neutralize all the

[58:33] negativities that's in that type of food

[58:36] which is called rajas and he was able to

[58:39] overcome rajas with his mind and not

[58:42] suffer from the impurities of food. So

[58:46] such things like that are considered in

[58:48] spiritual life in India. And uh you can

[58:53] certainly trace it back to to um uh the

[58:57] desire for for um the wrong desire for

[59:01] arta right

[59:04] wealth uh abund you know you it's the

[59:07] goddess of abundance is not there in

[59:09] that that particular perspective of arta

[59:12] she wants you to she'll give you

[59:14] everything that comes from the world but

[59:16] you have to receive it right treat it

[59:18] right and ingest it right and use the

[59:21] energy from getting food correctly.

[59:24] That's what it means. It turns into pure

[59:26] mind, pure prana and pure enemies. That

[59:29] now you've found the art of offering

[59:32] everything to her and to the deities

[59:34] that are in the food and now you're able

[59:37] to act with that inner power of

[59:40] spirituality

[59:42] that Shriramakrishna said, "Well, Narin,

[59:45] he can go west. He can go anywhere. He

[59:47] can even eat meat with them and not be

[59:50] touched by any impurities.

[59:53] So he knew that Swami Vandanda had that

[59:56] power to transform everything that he

[59:58] was doing everywhere he went on every

[1:00:02] level. So he didn't have to worry about

[1:00:04] his great disciple

[1:00:07] Vivicanandon.

[1:00:09] Another thing here is that food

[1:00:11] harvested by workers with dull minds

[1:00:14] interested only in making a living also

[1:00:17] puts impurities in food. See, these are

[1:00:20] things that people never think about.

[1:00:21] They just take the food. They won't even

[1:00:24] bless it generally. What to what to what

[1:00:28] to speak of blessing it specifically for

[1:00:30] that particular kind of defect. See, oh,

[1:00:33] I got this food from who? Nobody really

[1:00:35] cares. the people who are conscious

[1:00:38] care. Oh, I got that from a market. Oh,

[1:00:40] I got that from an organic market. Oh, I

[1:00:43] got that from, you know, a commercial

[1:00:45] field. Oh, I got that from, you know, a

[1:00:48] village marketplace. Oh, I got that from

[1:00:50] my friend who has an organic garden. Oh,

[1:00:53] I got that from a friend who uh uh is a

[1:00:58] is not so sensitive in growing food, is

[1:01:01] not so conscious. So all of this carries

[1:01:04] a mark with it in the food and it's it's

[1:01:07] a residue in it and uh that that needs

[1:01:10] to be destroyed by the power of the

[1:01:13] mantra and so everything you offer you

[1:01:16] offer it with the mantra with the

[1:01:18] specific idea of purifying that then

[1:01:21] it's prasade.

[1:01:23] Why is that good? Because then

[1:01:27] then it's uh holy company. See it's one

[1:01:32] of the four boons of mother. You visited

[1:01:34] holy company and you saw them eating

[1:01:36] prasad. They didn't eat anything that

[1:01:38] wasn't prasad.

[1:01:40] I never went to my teachers ashram vant

[1:01:44] society and ate any food that wasn't

[1:01:47] offered to her

[1:01:50] quite often with great ceremony with a

[1:01:52] puja involved and so forth. So there I

[1:01:55] didn't eat any uh impure food at the

[1:01:58] ashram. It just wasn't there. It was

[1:02:00] thought of and considered to be prasade,

[1:02:04] holy food, sanctified food.

[1:02:07] So it's very important. The fourth thing

[1:02:09] here is food cooked under the influence

[1:02:11] of negative thoughts and moods. So you

[1:02:14] see where we're moving here. We're

[1:02:15] moving here from the soil to the owners

[1:02:18] of the farms to the workers on the farms

[1:02:21] and now to the cook, the chef, the

[1:02:24] people who are actually preparing food

[1:02:27] and what their thoughts of their mind

[1:02:29] get now get into the food that's got

[1:02:31] three subtle defects in it. And now

[1:02:34] they're adding a four subtle defect. And

[1:02:36] this is the food that's coming to your

[1:02:38] table at a restaurant or the food that's

[1:02:40] coming to you from a neighbor's house or

[1:02:42] from at a at a you know a city banquet

[1:02:46] or at a at a you know

[1:02:50] at a fast food restaurant. Um so at all

[1:02:54] those levels fifth tier is food that's

[1:02:58] not blessed or consecrated.

[1:03:00] So that's a basic rule of thumb. Even if

[1:03:02] food comes to you impure and it's not

[1:03:06] possible to turn it down or it's

[1:03:07] impolite so forth. Then you've got your

[1:03:09] mantra there and with the rays of your

[1:03:12] eyes and the thoughts of your mind,

[1:03:14] you're looking at that food before you

[1:03:16] take it and you're saying, "Mother of

[1:03:18] the universe, purify this food of all

[1:03:20] its negativities and poisons. I offer it

[1:03:23] to you and then you take it." See, so in

[1:03:27] the moment on the run, you know, in

[1:03:30] step, you're you're purifying everything

[1:03:33] around you. uh and uh that's what she

[1:03:37] wants that's what she asks of you.

[1:03:42] Uh we can cap this off by just reading

[1:03:44] this. First of all, subtle poisons form

[1:03:48] when cyclic phases of ingestion,

[1:03:50] digestion, energization,

[1:03:53] sublimation, and absorption take place

[1:03:55] daily in the atmosphere of unconscious

[1:03:58] actions. dull and restless moods and

[1:04:02] imbalanced, stressful and angry thoughts

[1:04:04] happen.

[1:04:06] So that's the first kind of variety.

[1:04:09] That's the dynamic of how this happens

[1:04:12] in these upper five teachings we just

[1:04:14] had. There are also subtle poisons that

[1:04:16] can be prevented from forming. Well,

[1:04:19] how? By mindful acts, by keeping one's

[1:04:22] mind in an balanced condition, and by

[1:04:25] maintaining thoughts at a high level.

[1:04:28] Um a person at a very high level can

[1:04:30] take food uh that's given uh and not

[1:04:34] affect not suffer from the effects of it

[1:04:36] because their mind is at a very high

[1:04:38] level and their body is following their

[1:04:41] mind of course that's what she she says

[1:04:44] above here is you know from pure food

[1:04:47] you get pure blood and from pure blood

[1:04:49] you get pure mind right so that's where

[1:04:53] the mind becomes very important and the

[1:04:55] level of thoughts and intelligence of

[1:04:57] the mind become extremely valuable for

[1:04:59] you. There are also subtle poisons that

[1:05:03] are present in food and once they are

[1:05:06] you can remove them by conscious

[1:05:08] conscious recitation of the guru given

[1:05:10] mantra.

[1:05:13] This works if you know the meaning of

[1:05:16] the words and combine it with focused

[1:05:19] concentration. See, so you know what the

[1:05:22] the words mean and then you concentrate

[1:05:24] on the food and you say the words and

[1:05:27] then it's done. You know, it shall be

[1:05:29] done. It's done by mother. I have

[1:05:32] followed the rules of dharma and of food

[1:05:34] ingestion and I've uh made the offering

[1:05:39] to the deities and I've uh ended up

[1:05:43] offering an entire thing to the divine

[1:05:46] mother of the universe.

[1:05:48] Here's

[1:05:52] how that works. According to some

[1:05:55] teachings from whom I just mentioned

[1:05:57] earlier, Lord Vashisha, when the

[1:05:59] illumined mind made pure by realization

[1:06:01] of the revealed scriptures and the words

[1:06:04] of the teacher utters the begums coupled

[1:06:07] with the names of God over the food

[1:06:10] offering, the combined power of focused

[1:06:13] awareness with the vibration of the word

[1:06:15] destroys negative elements in it.

[1:06:19] and brings forth the satic quality

[1:06:21] inherent therein.

[1:06:23] Transforming food to pride.

[1:06:27] The result is called ojas. It nourishes

[1:06:30] the spirit and then further sublimation

[1:06:32] is accomplished by the adept soul. It

[1:06:35] turns ojas into tjos which is the subtle

[1:06:38] power to awaken others. You can see how

[1:06:41] important food is to India. How it

[1:06:45] should be important to us. you know that

[1:06:48] it's just not just a matter what's the

[1:06:50] subtitle up here like not so much a

[1:06:53] matter of organics as a matter of own

[1:06:56] right so we've come part way in some of

[1:06:59] us in in the west in America and so

[1:07:01] forth in the 60s and so forth by by

[1:07:05] standing up against in insecticides and

[1:07:08] you know poisons and so forth and trying

[1:07:11] to get that uh out of our industrialized

[1:07:14] system but we didn't really go the full

[1:07:17] way that India went towards the meaning

[1:07:20] of pride and how uh you have the power

[1:07:24] inside of you when you're given the

[1:07:25] mantra to concentrate focus it on the

[1:07:27] food and remove those defects at the

[1:07:30] subtle level that's the little level

[1:07:33] that happens not in the eating of the

[1:07:36] food and a little bit but more in the

[1:07:40] the u bloodstream right and then not so

[1:07:43] much just in the bloodstream but more in

[1:07:45] the thoughts

[1:07:46] that that uh occur in your mind after

[1:07:49] the blood passes through the brain and

[1:07:51] then the brain turns into thought. Those

[1:07:53] those that that energy allows you to

[1:07:57] think clearly, right? So that's why back

[1:08:00] here uh uh food cooked under the

[1:08:04] influence of negative thoughts and moods

[1:08:07] or food harvested by workers with dull

[1:08:10] minds, right? How can you stop that on

[1:08:14] this earth? You yourself are going to

[1:08:16] have to take that poison that was

[1:08:18] deposited there by dull minds and with a

[1:08:20] higher mind turn it into prasade before

[1:08:23] you take it and she will help you do

[1:08:26] this. Uh she's already given you four

[1:08:29] boas and four fruits. What more do you

[1:08:31] need? Uh a little practice with the

[1:08:34] mantra is what you need. And when do you

[1:08:37] do the practice

[1:08:39] now? Do practice now. So this becomes an

[1:08:43] ongoing aspect of your life. You're

[1:08:45] you're blessing food all the time. At

[1:08:48] the puja before chidura a couple weeks

[1:08:51] ago at the end of navaratri we we

[1:08:54] blessed that food so much over two hours

[1:08:56] that there couldn't be one shred of

[1:08:57] defect in that food we ate as pursade

[1:09:01] after the puja we and it all tasted uh

[1:09:06] ecstatic and it tasted just delicious.

[1:09:10] It's gave us exquisite enjoyment because

[1:09:14] we had completely purified that food and

[1:09:17] g offered it to all the deities not just

[1:09:20] the mother but all the subities Ganesha

[1:09:24] and goddess of fire beforehand you know

[1:09:29] and so that's what you have to do in an

[1:09:32] ongoing way through your whole life you

[1:09:34] have to keep up this high standard with

[1:09:37] food.

[1:09:41] Uh so that this is a a way of um

[1:09:51] here's a last way of putting it and then

[1:09:53] we'll go on to the the last uh ashmi

[1:09:56] because this is kind of a big one for

[1:09:58] for us and for the west.

[1:10:02] Though gratitude should always be

[1:10:03] forthcoming,

[1:10:05] thanking God for what? Food is not

[1:10:07] necessary. His divine shocki efficiently

[1:10:11] sustains all beings as a matter of

[1:10:13] natural course.

[1:10:16] She's giving food to everyone. They just

[1:10:18] not maybe treating it in the the kind of

[1:10:21] ways that promote spirituality.

[1:10:24] Well, that's obvious here, isn't it?

[1:10:27] Thus, what must be of greater concern is

[1:10:29] how to remove defects from all food that

[1:10:32] is ingested on this planet.

[1:10:34] Better than synthetic food is produce

[1:10:38] raised in fertile soil. And much better

[1:10:41] than fast food is homegrown food.

[1:10:44] Further, better than food sprayed with

[1:10:46] chemicals is organic food. But even

[1:10:49] homegrown organic food has types of

[1:10:52] subtle poisons in it which are caused by

[1:10:55] negative vibrations rather than by

[1:10:57] physical defects.

[1:11:00] As human beings handle food, it gets

[1:11:02] tainted by the thoughts in their minds.

[1:11:05] Praying does not remove these but the

[1:11:08] conscious repetition of the mantra given

[1:11:10] by an illumin perceptor can neutralize

[1:11:13] them.

[1:11:14] So I went whole hog on this chart some

[1:11:17] months ago.

[1:11:18] and just read the riot act on how to

[1:11:21] treat food and how we're not treating

[1:11:24] food and how we're treating food only

[1:11:26] partially and thinking you know just

[1:11:29] maybe thanking God and then praying or

[1:11:32] putting some sort of a few words of

[1:11:33] blessing on it as opposed to this kind

[1:11:36] of no knowledge of the dynamics of how

[1:11:38] the poisons where they originate from

[1:11:41] how they get into the food and how

[1:11:43] they're removed

[1:11:45] and um that how they get into the food,

[1:11:49] you know, is a matter of our own doing.

[1:11:51] That is humanity. We can stop this and

[1:11:55] if it can't be stopped all the time in

[1:11:58] all conditions and all situations, then

[1:12:00] we should develop the power to

[1:12:02] neutralize it before we eat it. If it

[1:12:05] comes from sources that we can't um u

[1:12:09] help, you know,

[1:12:11] people won't become conscious and wake

[1:12:13] up to the importance of food and that

[1:12:16] they may be harming others through

[1:12:18] things that they're doing like farming

[1:12:20] and industry and chemicals and all of

[1:12:22] that. uh then it's going to be up to the

[1:12:25] individual to take a stand for for the

[1:12:29] dharmic family you know for the children

[1:12:32] of the goddess for the children of god

[1:12:35] and uh practice these this art of sacred

[1:12:40] pride

[1:12:41] and uh so this is in part and an

[1:12:45] important part of this aspect of lakshmi

[1:12:48] called da lakshmi she will u as it says

[1:12:52] Their attitude of food comes from

[1:12:55] conscious offering to the deities within

[1:12:58] and to the five elements out of which

[1:13:01] the food is made. Right? So air uh

[1:13:04] earth, water, fire, air, and ether.

[1:13:07] We've studied them philosophically.

[1:13:09] We've studied them

[1:13:12] uh in evolutionally, right? And how how

[1:13:16] we take them to our senses.

[1:13:18] Earth with smell, taste, water with

[1:13:22] taste, fire with sight. We've made all

[1:13:25] those connections philosophically, but

[1:13:26] now it comes down to us to enact what we

[1:13:29] know from that study of philosophy and

[1:13:32] put it right into the act of eating

[1:13:36] and the act of ingestion and and the

[1:13:38] inner act of of extracting essence.

[1:13:42] What's it called again? Ojas,

[1:13:45] which makes us shine when we eat good

[1:13:47] food. Just like the sun, the sun's

[1:13:50] always shining. The moon is healing at

[1:13:52] night. All the herbs and all the gardens

[1:13:55] with it with her light. The sun in the

[1:13:57] morning is coming and nourishing

[1:13:58] everything. Is really very hard to stop

[1:14:02] the sun and moon from doing their job.

[1:14:06] Uh air pollution would be the first

[1:14:09] thing you think of. Oh, the sun's rays

[1:14:11] can't get through. The moon's rays can't

[1:14:13] get through as well. We better clarify

[1:14:15] the air here. And so it's all back to

[1:14:18] the five elements and the deities

[1:14:20] therein and how we treat them. Uh so

[1:14:23] this is not only a teaching, it's rather

[1:14:25] a plea, you know, to to all of us to

[1:14:29] become conscious of uh planting, growing

[1:14:33] uh and using divine mother's precious

[1:14:35] pride for

[1:14:40] material and spiritual wealth. Right?

[1:14:43] And connect the two. Don't stop at any

[1:14:46] juncture along the way but make it all

[1:14:49] one complete circle of harmony at the

[1:14:52] level of prasad and that's what da

[1:14:55] Lakshi is saying in the remaining

[1:14:57] minutes here which we do have time for

[1:15:00] uh is lakshi lakshmi so basically she uh

[1:15:07] um

[1:15:10] that means this kind of uh patience

[1:15:15] there's one word to put it and it also

[1:15:18] like courage there's how to be

[1:15:20] courageous it says here a courageous

[1:15:23] spirit is one which is not only patient

[1:15:27] but also availed of the ability to for

[1:15:30] forbear all trials so you can see

[1:15:33] there's little insignia as beho be you

[1:15:35] know put into any each of these

[1:15:37] lakshmies

[1:15:39] oh I should show this again so should I

[1:15:43] rest in the room but You can see all

[1:15:44] these little epitets here like fields of

[1:15:47] grain and you know a badge of courage

[1:15:50] and so forth or in each one of these. So

[1:15:53] you can see that for lakshi lakshmi it

[1:15:57] means this kind of courage that we need

[1:15:59] to to create in us fearlessness was

[1:16:03] swami gi like to call it uh and u so

[1:16:07] that we can overcome all trials. So, I

[1:16:10] don't think although we've looked at

[1:16:12] these old war horses, um I don't think

[1:16:15] we've probably ever shown them side by

[1:16:17] side, but they have much the same images

[1:16:20] in both of them. So, maybe you can uh

[1:16:24] switch back and forth between them for

[1:16:26] the benefit of those looking on to the

[1:16:28] class. But

[1:16:30] uh in terms of uh

[1:16:35] Daria Lakshmi Lux Lakshmi then you can

[1:16:38] see here this first

[1:16:41] uh

[1:16:43] way of

[1:16:46] becoming courageous right so this image

[1:16:50] is a very famous image in India it's you

[1:16:53] see it you probably even see it on the

[1:16:55] on the web sometime if you look under

[1:16:57] vanta and yoga and so forth. But you can

[1:17:00] see these teachings have been put

[1:17:01] together with the um word pratiba which

[1:17:06] means according to Sharam Krishna the

[1:17:08] power of intelligence.

[1:17:11] He used to say that a flint you know

[1:17:13] will strike sparks the minute you take

[1:17:15] it out of a river even when it's wet but

[1:17:18] an ordinary rock will not be able to

[1:17:20] strike sparks. Uh so that flint is this

[1:17:23] special power of intelligence inside of

[1:17:26] us. He's talking about that even when

[1:17:29] it's wet, that means it has to live in

[1:17:31] the world, it still will strike sparks

[1:17:33] of intelligence. And that's the courage

[1:17:36] we need. That's the courage and the

[1:17:38] forbearance that we need to always have

[1:17:40] against the what's been called the

[1:17:43] vagaries and vicissitudes of the world

[1:17:46] or the challenges and trials of Maya.

[1:17:49] You can see Lord Buddha's teaching down

[1:17:51] here. He says u gods and goddesses

[1:17:56] father and mother or any other kith and

[1:17:59] kin cannot confer greater benefit than

[1:18:02] that of than that of well-directed

[1:18:04] intelligence. This is Lord Buddha.

[1:18:08] This intelligence is incomprehensible

[1:18:10] and exceedingly subtle. It wonders

[1:18:14] wherever and whenever it desires.

[1:18:17] Therefore, the wise ones carefully watch

[1:18:20] over this intelligence which resides in

[1:18:22] the cavern of the heart and utilize it

[1:18:26] to free themselves and others from the

[1:18:29] shackles of Mara. That's the problems of

[1:18:31] Maya.

[1:18:33] So, uh this special intelligence called

[1:18:36] Pratiba, he named himself after. Another

[1:18:38] word for it would be Buddhy or the

[1:18:41] Buddha. Uh so, that's um of course not

[1:18:45] just

[1:18:47] uh nominal intelligence but it's

[1:18:49] spiritual intelligence. So you would

[1:18:51] have to go back to the goddess of

[1:18:54] adakshmi you know to understand the

[1:18:56] special intelligence that she talks

[1:18:58] about. The image itself is fairly u uh

[1:19:04] obvious. The elephant there is being uh

[1:19:08] grabbed by an alligator in in the waters

[1:19:10] when it was feasting nicely on on and

[1:19:14] cooling itself. So that unreal and

[1:19:18] apparent dream reality that the elephant

[1:19:19] has got itself into is called pratiba uh

[1:19:24] pratibas pratibas basika sorry

[1:19:28] pratibasikas.

[1:19:30] It's the unreal or apparent dream

[1:19:32] reality. Uh and um uh the courage of

[1:19:36] this poor soul that's caught by this

[1:19:38] predicament is that it's still offering

[1:19:40] the Lord a lotus flower picked from that

[1:19:44] very ocean, the lake that it's it's uh

[1:19:47] cooling itself in. So that's what needs

[1:19:50] to happen for the soul. It needs to have

[1:19:52] such courage and such forbearance that

[1:19:56] um it will be able to turn to the Lord

[1:19:58] even when in the worst of conditions and

[1:20:00] circumstances that happen in this world

[1:20:04] um all the way up to um u taking your

[1:20:07] last breath in the body called death.

[1:20:10] So uh pratibasa next to that was pratiba

[1:20:14] as we said that's depicted here by Lord

[1:20:17] Vishnu who is Lakshmi's great consort.

[1:20:21] So Bak Mahalakshmi day is a good mention

[1:20:24] good day to mention uh Lord Vishnu.

[1:20:27] There he is coming in on Garuda. You

[1:20:30] know he he rides on the broad back of

[1:20:34] Garuda uh whom is his mount through

[1:20:38] which he he moves through dimensions to

[1:20:41] reach you. And then what he's bringing

[1:20:44] there is his own power uh pratibikaba

[1:20:48] that's called the power of intelligence

[1:20:51] which removes obstacles.

[1:20:54] Those obstacles are called pratibika

[1:20:57] power of obstruction which is

[1:20:59] represented by the crocodile. So you see

[1:21:02] Vishnu is casting his his uh beautiful

[1:21:06] chakra at and cutting off the ele the uh

[1:21:10] alligator's head. So that's the great

[1:21:13] the great chakra, you know, that that he

[1:21:16] casts as a weapon to destroy obstacles

[1:21:19] for beings who are in uh predicament

[1:21:23] like like this soul has gotten himself

[1:21:25] into. Um

[1:21:28] so Lord Buddha commends that highest

[1:21:31] intelligence in this way. Um the last

[1:21:35] quote there is everything the world

[1:21:38] manifestations therein enjoying

[1:21:40] suffering and departing the power of

[1:21:43] conjuring up the realms of name and form

[1:21:46] can and should be directly designated

[1:21:48] and attributed attributed to one's own

[1:21:51] intelligence.

[1:21:53] Other factors such as fate, destiny,

[1:21:56] karma and even grace also reside within

[1:21:59] and spring from that self-same power. So

[1:22:02] that's how highly regarded and and uh

[1:22:07] touted uh highest intelligence is by

[1:22:11] beings like Lord Buddha and Swami

[1:22:14] Vikananda. Uh they they have this

[1:22:17] highest estimation of that that's going

[1:22:19] to be the power that's going to remove

[1:22:22] all in obstructions there. Um now keep

[1:22:25] this in mind while in the remaining

[1:22:27] minutes we look at a similar image

[1:22:30] because it happened to fill out this

[1:22:33] teaching on Daria Lakshmi

[1:22:37] and that's where the same Garuda

[1:22:40] bird with Vishnu on its back is

[1:22:43] beginning to descend upon the soul who

[1:22:46] is now free of obstructions and fully

[1:22:49] dedicated to the Lord in the form of his

[1:22:52] own concert there or the devity

[1:22:55] uh could be either aspect of Lakshmi or

[1:22:58] it could just be the devity him or

[1:23:00] herself is offering a garland to the

[1:23:03] lord as the lord comes into uh the

[1:23:07] picture uh of the mind and uh this is

[1:23:11] where Sri Krishna says the imperishable

[1:23:14] is Brahman the supreme its dwelling in

[1:23:17] individual bodies is called adiyatma

[1:23:21] adi buddha pertains to its the parish

[1:23:23] able nature around it and the perushia

[1:23:27] is the aid dvata.

[1:23:29] Ishvara am the soul sacrificer called

[1:23:32] the ad a yoga a very beautiful four-fold

[1:23:35] teaching again in the in the gita about

[1:23:38] adiaga adi buddha adida da and adi yoga

[1:23:43] so basically when you look at that

[1:23:45] teaching you can see it posted here

[1:23:47] basically the the uh adyatma is

[1:23:50] Brahman's presence in everything you see

[1:23:54] and um inside and out and the second

[1:23:57] thing mentioned there is the Adidata,

[1:24:00] the soul herself. You see, if you say

[1:24:03] that he's the the only male in all of

[1:24:07] the world and all souls are females

[1:24:09] coming to him with their offerings. You

[1:24:12] know, this is with this garland. It's a

[1:24:14] much different uh kind of courage and

[1:24:17] fearless fear fearlessness than this

[1:24:19] soul had earlier when it was subject to

[1:24:22] this problem of pratibas.

[1:24:25] Um now it's in a different situation

[1:24:28] isn't it? Now it's conscious of uh the

[1:24:32] reality of of the parusha and the ai

[1:24:35] ayaga the sacrificer himself as he's

[1:24:38] represented here on geruda

[1:24:42] and then number three there is the ai

[1:24:44] buddha all around both of them is

[1:24:47] perishable nature

[1:24:49] um shri krishna calls that my outer form

[1:24:53] right in the gita right there's there's

[1:24:56] property of two kinds one is It's the

[1:24:59] outer form

[1:25:00] proc which is the five elements and all

[1:25:03] the objects. The other is like the life

[1:25:06] force within. We call it prana in

[1:25:09] spiritual life. That's the inner form of

[1:25:11] procriti in its unmanifested state. So

[1:25:14] that's all around them outside and

[1:25:16] inside nature is there in its two forms.

[1:25:20] Um in the west we don't have any uh any

[1:25:25] cause or any teaching that leads us to

[1:25:27] unmanifested nature. So we don't believe

[1:25:30] in anything but external nature. That's

[1:25:32] why we practice the involution of our

[1:25:35] five elements back to our dreams dream

[1:25:38] elements tan matras of our five senses

[1:25:42] back to our dream senses. the uh the uh

[1:25:46] uh the s subtle senses.

[1:25:50] So we have to practice these sets of

[1:25:52] fives meditating. That's why you go

[1:25:55] somewhere and do soda now and

[1:25:58] contemplate these teachings for hours

[1:26:02] in private and then go to holy company

[1:26:04] and get some more to to to do the same

[1:26:06] with. It's a wonderful way to use the

[1:26:09] mind. Who said that? See this is the

[1:26:12] most wonderful way to use the mind. We

[1:26:14] just heard that teaching

[1:26:17] Lord Shiva about pressing the soma. He's

[1:26:20] telling the gods, we had this at the

[1:26:22] retreat. He's saying, "Oh, you gods, if

[1:26:25] you can take what I'm saying and you can

[1:26:27] you can do this mantra around it and

[1:26:31] then put it into teachings, contemplate

[1:26:34] it. This is the best way to use the mind

[1:26:38] said. So he's in in joining upon them

[1:26:41] and encouraging them to spend time in a

[1:26:44] silent study

[1:26:46] focused inside not just meditation that

[1:26:49] tries to empathy the mind but focused on

[1:26:53] the best parts of the mind. Didn't she

[1:26:56] say in that chart we just looked at that

[1:26:59] pure food, pure blood, pure energy, pure

[1:27:02] mind, then pure love. Right? So that

[1:27:05] mind has to be made aware of everything

[1:27:08] that's in it in the form of highest

[1:27:10] wisdom. She loves wisdom the most.

[1:27:13] That's why she's called the wisdom

[1:27:15] goddess. And both of these ashakshmies

[1:27:20] uh the first one and the second one uh

[1:27:23] uh aakmi all the way down to vigil which

[1:27:27] we'll look at next week

[1:27:30] events this important uh cycle of

[1:27:34] gaining this highest wisdom to get rid

[1:27:37] of root ignorance so that you can see

[1:27:40] yourself again

[1:27:45] says says in the Gita this Vishnu says

[1:27:48] in the Gita that knowledge is the mo the

[1:27:51] best purifier in all the three worlds.

[1:27:57] uh to finish that up then we have this

[1:27:59] fourth principle there you see a Buddha

[1:28:02] was the uh was the changing nature or

[1:28:06] procity in two forms but then himself he

[1:28:09] says I am the great sacrificer Ishvar's

[1:28:13] sacrifice is to come into nature to free

[1:28:17] the soul from all its limitations which

[1:28:19] is most evident here in this chart and

[1:28:22] you those of you who are looking on

[1:28:24] might not be uh able to uh keep up with

[1:28:28] it all. But you can see even by looking

[1:28:30] here that this soul is really uh the old

[1:28:33] self and this is the new remade self.

[1:28:36] This is why it's very beautiful to put

[1:28:38] these two side by side to see the

[1:28:40] transformation.

[1:28:43] Um yes, we've just come to the end of

[1:28:46] our time. Uh there are other teachings

[1:28:49] on this chart.

[1:28:51] Read my book. It's called Footfalls of

[1:28:54] the Indian Rishies. You can find both

[1:28:55] these charts and it and do your own

[1:28:57] contemplation back and forth as you as

[1:29:01] you look.

[1:29:05] We have done four astralies in our hour

[1:29:08] and a half. Uh we'll do another four

[1:29:10] next week. So be on hand. I'll give you

[1:29:12] one final look at this because actually

[1:29:15] uh

[1:29:17] one one thing that I want to read early

[1:29:20] on that could be repeated next week

[1:29:23] would be this quote at the top. This is

[1:29:25] from the ashta lakshmi stotrum.

[1:29:28] Oh Madhava's love that's Krishna's love

[1:29:31] that's her ma Mahalakmi is the love of

[1:29:35] Sri Krishna

[1:29:36] sister of the moon praised by Vic

[1:29:39] rishies kindly dissolve the

[1:29:42] transgressions of this dark age and

[1:29:45] drench us in wisdom world wisdom words

[1:29:50] born of revered Brigu

[1:29:53] his lineage the subtle power in all

[1:29:55] mantras giver of the knowledge of all

[1:29:58] things. Bestower of abundance of

[1:30:01] chariots, horses, elephants, writer on

[1:30:04] Garudas, broadback,

[1:30:07] of sterling virtues born, indicator of

[1:30:11] all right pathways to God, raised by all

[1:30:14] apicious sounds,

[1:30:17] anointed with sacred vermillion,

[1:30:19] worshiped heartily by gods and sears,

[1:30:22] and be decked with jewels.

[1:30:26] Conscient drums sound mainly to honor

[1:30:28] thee. O mother, bless us all with

[1:30:31] profuse wealth both material and

[1:30:33] spiritual

[1:30:38] lakshmi storm.

[1:30:40] So good place to end with that.

[1:30:52] Daviarini

[1:30:55] Mahasari

[1:30:58] dari

[1:31:03] mahadei pranamiari

[1:31:10] mahasari

[1:31:12] darana darini

[1:31:16] oh

[1:31:29] We propitiate

[1:31:31] and extol the mother of spiritual power

[1:31:35] worshiped by the gods and all living

[1:31:37] beings.

[1:31:39] We recognize the allospicious source of

[1:31:42] all religions,

[1:31:44] the allseeing one

[1:31:47] who oversees all worlds.

[1:31:50] We recognize her as the all aspicious

[1:31:53] source

[1:31:55] that offer countless obeasances to her.

[1:31:58] The one adored by all luminators

[1:32:02] who confers upon even the rishies their

[1:32:05] eternal joy.

[1:32:08] Oh,

[1:32:19] shanty.

[1:32:21] Shanty,

[1:32:24] shanty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ashta means eight in Sanskrit, and the Ashta Lakshmi are the eight divine aspects of the goddess Lakshmi. In this class the teacher presents them as material and spiritual wealth, arguing that the English word wealth must be understood beyond lands, money, jewels and gold.
Navaratri means nine nights, and the teacher describes worshipping nine aspects of the goddess across those days, from Shailaputri through Mahagauri. The teacher links this nine-fold pattern to the nines of the Shri family and to Tripura Sundari, which appear across Vedic and Upanishadic sources.
The teacher says Ramakrishna's ideal was Mother Kali, and that those who came into spiritual life through his guidance belong to the Kali Kula family. The teacher also notes that, as the songs say, he awakened her from the cremation grounds of India.
Manana is the contemplation step that comes between hearing a teaching and meditating on it. The teacher says it is often overlooked and recommends withdrawing to a forest, river or retreat for an hour, a day or a week to turn the teaching over in the mind.
The teacher describes Jagaddhatri as the holder of the worlds and a very powerful aspect of Durga. In this class schedule her puja falls on the Monday after the Kali puja, closing a sequence that begins with Durga and moves through Vaishnava and Tantric forms.
The teacher teaches that food carries the mood of those who grow, harvest and cook it, and recommends offering it first to the Divine Mother and the deities as prasad. The practice is presented as a way to bring devotion and attention into every meal.
The teacher describes the Sri Yantra as nine interlocking triangles stacked on one another, associated with nine goddesses, nine helpers and nine yogas to practice. These are slated for a seminar on sadhana the following month.
