Deep Dive Meditation: Stillness Beyond Thought Explained

From Jac O' Keeffe

Watch · 7

"Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever you meet, maybe on this beautiful planet that supports every breath we take." That is how Jac O'Keeffe opens this recording from her April 18, 2021 Truth Serum Cafe, a weekly online gathering held on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:00 PM ET, where participants bring their own tea or coffee and sit together through guided practice. The greeting is deliberately wide. It reaches across time zones, and it sets the tone for a session that asks listeners to stop reaching for anything at all. What follows is roughly ninety minutes of guidance in which the body is blessed and released, the emotional self is invited to dissolve, attention is withdrawn from story, and the difference between stillness and thought is pressed hard. The video's own description warns that this meditation is open-ended and that it is not for people new to the practice, and that warning is worth taking seriously.

What does it sound like to begin a Deep Dive meditation?

The early minutes are instruction in slowness. Before anything subtle happens, O'Keeffe asks listeners to give gratitude to themselves for setting aside the time, to "park stories of the world" and "park stories of me myself," and then to scan the body for pain or discomfort and meet it with tenderness. She goes part by part: the face, the eyes, the tongue, the neck, the shoulders, down through the arms, the hands, each finger. The words are simple, but the method is precise. Tension is not fought. It is named, softened, and then allowed to go.

The breath becomes the instrument. Around the four-and-a-half-minute mark she asks, "can we slow down that breath a little bit," and then asks the listener to lengthen the pause between an in-breath and an out-breath, "as long as you're comfortable." She is especially interested in the out-breath. Think of it the way a drummer thinks about the space between hits: the silence is not empty, it is where the groove lives. She suggests this practice before meditating, before sleep, before driving, before turning on a computer or phone, and invites the listener to notice whether the nervous system is calmer than it was five minutes earlier. The diaphragm gets its own blessing, as do the organs of the abdomen, "as if you're blessing them with calmness."

Why does the teacher keep saying "dissolve"?

The word recurs throughout the recording, and it is the core of the method. Once the hands have been invited to "dissolve into the air that surrounds them," the instruction deepens. The torso is next, then the core of the body, and O'Keeffe asks something most meditation teaching avoids: "can you trust when there is no letting, no holding, no capacity to hold to, when the core of your body dissolves can you let it dissolve?" She speaks directly about the body's eventual end, saying there will be a time when the physical form "either naturally decomposes or reset[s]," and asks the listener to welcome that now, "while your body is alive."

The instruction is not morbid. It is a rehearsal of non-attachment. The logic is that the body functions well on its own and "doesn't need to hold on to any story memory." If the body can be released, so can the emotional body, and that is the next movement in the session. The listener is asked to observe the emotional capacity, to notice the noise of the room (O'Keeffe mentions that it is very noisy that morning in Kauai) without letting it "scratch your emotional body," and to recognize the faculty that creates stories in the first place.

How does attention get pulled out of story?

This is where the recording shifts from body work to a more philosophical claim. O'Keeffe says: "The ability to move your attention to story is what makes us all think we're having a human life." Attention, in her framing, is the thing that runs the self-referencing machinery of the brain, the network that "wants to keep making it all about me." So the practice is to withdraw attention from story, from concepts, from what other people think of you and what your own brain thinks of them, and to disconnect. "Withdraw your attention as if you can find where it came from," she says.

Once attention is withdrawn, the instruction becomes a move toward being rather than doing. She says it is "much easier to go to the non-dual before you go deeper than the non-dual," and her language here is careful. Stillness, she suggests, is what the listener should taste, and "beingness isn't touched at all by any concept." The verbs are sensory: let the calmness penetrate, let it spread, let it become palpable. The phrase "stay there, stay there, stay there" comes with long silences in the recording, and those silences are part of the teaching.

It is worth noting how the channel's own description positions this kind of work. Jac O'Keeffe, according to the channel's description, is clear that non-dual awareness is "a stepping stone and not a destination." The recording makes that point in practice: the session does not end with a state to hold on to, but with a sequence of letting go that keeps moving the listener past any achievement.

What is the difference between stillness and thought?

The most striking claim in the excerpt is structural. Thought can be aware of stillness only in the sense that a thought can have an idea about stillness. Stillness, by contrast, can be aware of thought. "That's a one-way street," O'Keeffe says, "and that's important to grok." Her instruction is to notice the difference between thinking about stillness and the felt sense of it. "If you think about the stillness it's an entirely different thing," she says. "Being the stillness is what's happening."

"Your mind can't actually be aware of that which is deeper than thought. That which we pick up as beingness, we pick it up by stillness."

(Jac O'Keeffe, Truth Serum Cafe, April 18, 2021)

She also argues that stillness has its own purpose and meaning, not in the sense of a concept, but as something implicit. "The mind does stories about purpose and meaning," she says, "but beingness can't. It doesn't split up in that way." The test she offers is simple and blunt: does it feel like it's enough? If not, "your mind has come with you." The further claim is that enough "doesn't even compute." Rejection of the stillness, in her description, usually sounds like boredom or wanting something else, a sign that the listener is "too caught in story, too caught in expectations, too caught in desire to actually be there."

For a listener used to the language of spiritual progress, this is the sharpest turn in the session. There is no ladder here. The mind is invited to notice where it is pulling and to surrender each thought, not to win a state.

Why is this kind of practice not for beginners?

The honest answer is that the instructions assume a familiarity with inner investigation that many newcomers will not have. Phrases like "the non-dual," "beingness," and "the self-referencing network of your brain" are used without much scaffolding, and the sequence moves quickly from the body to the emotions to attention to the non-dual field. The channel's warning in the description is accurate. A reader who wants a gentler on-ramp would do better to start with the shorter opening passages and the breath work, and to come back to the deeper sections when the basic movement of letting go feels familiar.

There is also a craft lesson for anyone who teaches or leads sessions. O'Keeffe's language is repetitive on purpose. Words like "dissolve," "let go," and "stay there" are not decoration. They are the mechanism. The pauses are part of the composition.

Where to go from here

If you want to try this practice, begin with the breath. Lengthen the pause after the out-breath, and stay with it for a few minutes before you move to the body. Then work through the sequence slowly: name tension, meet it with tenderness, and let the hands, the core and the emotional capacity dissolve as far as they naturally will. When you reach the question of attention, notice the difference between thinking about stillness and simply being in it. If the mind pulls back into story, that is the information the practice is looking for, not a failure.

To hear more, the Truth Serum Cafe runs live every Sunday, and recordings of past sessions are available through Jac O'Keeffe's site at jac-okeeffe.com. The full video of this April 2021 session is listed on her YouTube channel, and the recording is marked as open-ended. Come to it with time, with a cup of something warm, and with no particular outcome in mind. O'Keeffe's own instruction is the right one to end on: let it be enough, and notice when it isn't.

[0:01] good morning good afternoon good evening

[0:03] wherever you meet maybe on this

[0:05] beautiful planet that supports

[0:07] every breath we take

[0:10] and first i'd like you to give gratitude

[0:14] to yourself

[0:15] for carving out 90 minutes

[0:24] just let yourself rest in that decision

[0:26] of like yeah

[0:28] i'm here

[0:32] and i'm going to park

[0:33] [Music]

[0:37] stories of the world i'm going to park

[0:39] stories of me myself

[0:41] i because i'm responding

[0:44] to a call to go home to my true nature

[0:51] and give your humanness acknowledgement

[0:55] for making that decision today

[1:00] for going against the self-referencing

[1:04] network of your brain that wants to keep

[1:06] making it all about me

[1:16] let this be a gift to you

[1:27] and let's check in with your beautiful

[1:29] body

[1:34] see if there's physical pain anywhere or

[1:40] discomfort anywhere

[1:44] and let there be tenderness and love for

[1:46] that part of your body

[1:49] give it a little bit of love

[1:54] because that's the energy that promotes

[1:56] healing

[1:58] resolution calm

[2:09] softness tenderness towards your own

[2:11] body

[2:13] wherever it might be creaking and

[2:21] tweaking

[2:26] let your face relax

[2:32] let your eyes be soft

[2:36] your cheeks your tongue soft

[2:41] your neck open and clear

[2:48] your shoulders dropped there's no weight

[2:50] on them

[2:51] you've nothing to carry now

[2:58] and moving down your arms your upper

[3:02] arms your lower arms

[3:05] at rest your wrists

[3:09] down into your hands

[3:14] your small fingers your fourth fingers

[3:17] middle fingers index fingers

[3:20] thumbs let go

[3:27] let them dissolve

[3:30] that level of letting go let them

[3:32] dissolve into the air that surrounds

[3:34] them

[3:42] and your chest

[3:46] notice the rise and fall of your chest

[3:48] as you breathe

[3:58] can we slow down that breath a little

[4:00] bit

[4:00] [Music]

[4:07] can you slow down your out breath

[4:11] in particular

[4:24] can you make that tiny pause between an

[4:27] in-breath

[4:28] and an out-breath a little bit longer

[4:39] as long as you're comfortable

[4:43] a length of a pause that's comfortable

[4:45] for you

[5:09] club

[5:23] oh

[5:26] if you can notice that your

[5:29] body and that your nervous system is

[5:32] calmer now than it was

[5:34] five minutes ago then this is worth

[5:37] doing

[5:41] before you meditate before you go to

[5:43] sleep

[5:46] before before anything that tends to

[5:49] crank you up

[5:52] before you drive before you turn on the

[5:54] computer before you

[5:55] turn on your phone

[6:01] slow down

[6:05] a pause between the in-breath and the

[6:08] out-breaths

[6:09] between the out-breath and the in-breath

[6:24] and let's bless your beautiful lungs

[6:28] that are responding to the rise and fall

[6:31] of your diaphragm

[6:34] your diaphragm is doing the breathing

[6:38] pushing air out and relaxing to let air

[6:42] come back into your lungs

[6:48] bless your diaphragm

[6:56] and let your stomach be relaxed

[7:00] all the organs in your abdomen

[7:03] as if you're blessing them with calmness

[7:09] it's okay to let go it's okay to

[7:15] dissolve

[7:21] can you bring that same feeling of

[7:24] dissolving your hands into the air

[7:28] can you bring that same feeling to your

[7:31] torso

[7:34] to where your body can dissolve into the

[7:37] air around it

[7:47] it requires a deeper surrender a

[7:49] slightly deeper letting go

[7:55] the core of your body dissolving

[8:10] your lower abdomen

[8:14] dissolving releasing letting go

[8:20] can you trust

[8:24] without without any holding at all

[8:35] there's no end to my sentence actually

[8:39] can you trust

[8:42] when there is no letting no holding

[8:46] no capacity to hold to when the core of

[8:50] your body

[8:53] dissolves

[8:59] can you let it dissolve

[9:06] there will be a time when it either

[9:08] naturally decomposes

[9:11] or reset a light something is going to

[9:14] happen that physical form

[9:15] sooner or later thankfully we don't know

[9:21] when

[9:22] can you welcome that in now while your

[9:25] body is alive

[9:27] can you say yes to the dissolving

[9:41] can you let it go your beautiful body

[9:47] or is this stirring some agitation just

[9:49] notice

[9:51] just notice

[9:59] let your hips be relaxed your upper legs

[10:03] your thighs relaxed

[10:06] your knee joints open and free and clear

[10:14] your lower legs

[10:20] down to your ankles soles of your feet

[10:30] your baby toes fourth toe

[10:35] your middle toes your second toes

[10:40] your big toes

[10:49] can your feet dissolve in the way that

[10:52] your hands did

[10:53] can your feet dissolve into the air

[10:56] around them

[11:01] is it okay if their form

[11:10] [Music]

[11:13] disappears

[11:27] uh

[11:34] and let's shift our perspective so that

[11:37] we can

[11:38] observe the body

[11:42] letting go

[11:46] and that we can trust that it functions

[11:48] beautifully

[11:50] and that it doesn't need to hold on to

[11:53] any story

[11:55] memory

[12:07] let it go

[12:13] and as you observe the body

[12:19] observe your emotional capacity

[12:26] can that dissolve

[12:29] can your emotional capacity dissolve

[12:40] [Music]

[12:47] keep your attention inside even though

[12:49] this morning on kauai

[12:51] it's very noisy

[13:03] notice the noise don't let it scratch

[13:06] your emotional body

[13:27] and your capacity to create stories

[13:32] where thoughts work with your brain

[13:36] where your capacity to put attention

[13:41] on stories on concepts

[13:46] and that that same capacity

[13:52] can dissolve back into the awareness

[13:56] from where it came to

[13:58] came from

[14:02] the ability to move your attention to

[14:04] story is what makes

[14:05] us all think we're having a human life

[14:17] withdraw your attention as if you can

[14:20] find where it came from

[14:22] pull it back from stories

[14:26] and let people have stories about you

[14:30] and let your brain have stories about

[14:32] other people

[14:34] disconnect

[14:38] disconnect from them all

[14:51] thank you

[15:02] as you withdraw your attention

[15:09] be aware of

[15:12] being as opposed to doing stillness

[15:16] as opposed to thought it's very useful

[15:19] to go to the

[15:20] opposite before we go deeper

[15:24] to put that in another way it's it's

[15:26] much easier to go to the non-dual

[15:32] before you go deeper than the non-jew

[15:37] [Music]

[15:38] put your attention on stillness

[15:42] around beingness

[15:54] can you taste that stillness

[15:58] beingness isn't touched at all

[16:04] by any concept

[16:15] let its calmness penetrate

[16:22] spread

[16:26] let it expand

[16:35] let its calmness be

[16:49] palpable

[16:53] and that happens by placing more

[16:56] attention

[16:59] withdrawing your attention and placing

[17:00] it on stillness on beingness

[17:03] stay there stay there

[17:07] stay there

[17:09] [Music]

[17:12] where there's nothing happening

[17:26] where there's nothing happening

[17:39] [Music]

[17:45] here can you recognize

[17:49] that that beingness that stillness

[17:54] is not created by a thought in the same

[17:57] way that your mind creates thoughts

[17:59] about

[18:01] me and life and sunday and

[18:07] that it has a different essence

[18:22] your mind can't actually be aware

[18:27] of that which is deeper than thought

[18:32] that which we pick up as beingness we

[18:34] pick it up by stillness

[18:37] your mind can't be aware of that

[18:42] it's that that stillness has an ability

[18:45] to be aware of thoughts

[18:49] that's a one-way street and that's

[18:52] important to

[18:53] to grok to click

[18:58] i want you to recognize

[19:01] that you can orient your attention

[19:06] into the stillness by pulling it back

[19:11] but if you think about the stillness

[19:14] it's an entirely different thing

[19:16] i want you to feel when you're in a

[19:19] thought about stillness and beingness

[19:26] and how different it is like

[19:29] worlds apart when attention is withdrawn

[19:33] and being the stillness

[19:37] is the experience

[19:48] i want you to feel it i can think about

[19:52] the stillness

[19:54] or i can dissolve and drop back and

[19:57] being the stillness is what's happening

[20:06] being the stillness

[20:12] the stillness can be aware of thought

[20:20] but if it goes the other way then

[20:22] thought is running an

[20:23] idea about stillness it can't

[20:26] actually go there

[20:35] i want you to know when you're thinking

[20:37] about stillness

[20:39] or when it's the felt sense and don't

[20:42] waste your time thinking about the

[20:43] stillness

[20:45] it's all in the direct experience

[21:14] that being stillness it has its own

[21:17] purpose

[21:18] it has its own meaning

[21:23] it's like purpose and meaning are

[21:27] implicit to it it doesn't do the idea

[21:30] of a purpose the idea of meaning it's

[21:33] implicit

[21:38] the mind does stories about purpose and

[21:43] meaning

[21:44] but beingness

[21:48] can't it doesn't split up in that way

[22:07] and stillness beingness

[22:11] it's enough does it feel like it's

[22:13] enough

[22:20] if if it feels like it's not enough then

[22:22] your mind has come with you if it feels

[22:26] like it's enough

[22:28] great what's even better is

[22:32] enough doesn't even compute

[22:38] where are you with those three

[22:41] qualitative different

[22:43] three qualitative differences of

[22:45] stillness

[22:51] i'm going to say them one more time

[22:55] does your mind feel that the stillness

[22:57] and the beingness is not enough

[23:02] so that might look like oh jack has done

[23:05] this a thousand times oh i'm bored of

[23:07] this oh i want something i want

[23:09] right this is the kind of thing we do

[23:13] a rejection of the stillness because

[23:16] what we're doing is we're too caught in

[23:17] story

[23:18] we're too caught in expectations we're

[23:20] too caught in desire to actually be

[23:25] there in the stillness

[23:29] so surrender every thought

[23:33] so if you're in that qualitative wanting

[23:36] something else

[23:40] you brought the mind with you on this

[23:42] exercise

[23:44] i need you to recognize that

[23:52] i'm going to close some windows

[24:07] [Music]

[24:14] and the middle qualitative category

[24:17] today

[24:20] if i rest in beingness and the stillness

[24:24] can i go yeah this is as good as it gets

[24:28] yeah this genuinely is enough now don't

[24:31] grab a spiritual discipline a spiritual

[24:33] idea is your management of the mind

[24:37] clear enough

[24:38] so that when you sit in beingness in

[24:40] stillness

[24:44] this is the truth i was looking for

[24:49] this is home

[24:52] this is as good as it gets authentically

[25:00] is that true is there a tasting

[25:05] of the space where wanting more

[25:09] doesn't access where you recognize

[25:12] the difference between when i want more

[25:16] and tasting the stillness

[25:21] can you dial out of one and dial into

[25:23] the other

[25:29] what rises up out of beingness and the

[25:31] stillness

[25:32] is a recognition that

[25:37] while i'm in human form yeah this is as

[25:40] good as it gets

[25:44] is that showing itself to you

[25:48] or do you have a habit of rejecting it

[25:50] bringing the mind with you and wanting

[25:52] more

[25:53] is that what you do what do you do there

[25:56] how deeply do you

[25:58] remember the stillness and beingness

[26:01] how deeply do you know that place

[26:06] or does the proverbial rejection

[26:10] of the illusion come with you is it

[26:11] still there

[26:13] that no it can't be it can't no no i

[26:16] want more i want more it's not deep

[26:18] enough

[26:21] that's kind of really important that you

[26:24] allow the stillness and the beingness

[26:26] to permeate your cells

[26:30] so that you can recognize i i need you

[26:34] to

[26:34] kind of grok it for yourself to

[26:36] recognize

[26:37] wow there is a zone where

[26:40] my mind's rejection of everything and my

[26:42] mind's wanting something better

[26:45] it's not active it's not active

[26:49] so do you recognize that this is as good

[26:51] as it gets

[26:54] and the third category is it's

[26:57] so obvious that the mind is out there

[27:00] yakida-yaking

[27:02] you know standing on the top of a

[27:06] faraway planet always wanting more

[27:10] and and no it can't

[27:14] it it's not thinking about awareness it

[27:17] hasn't a clue

[27:22] that that would be category three

[27:30] where you clearly know that the that

[27:34] awareness can observe thought

[27:39] but that thought doesn't uh

[27:42] it doesn't know what the heck

[27:43] awarenesses or stillnesses or

[27:47] beingnesses

[27:57] so let the body resonate with stillness

[28:00] and beingness

[28:06] watch to see if your mind wants more

[28:08] watch to see if your mind wants to be

[28:15] entertained

[28:16] your mind on a faraway planet

[28:20] and let it do its thing there but don't

[28:23] buy

[28:24] its story don't buy it don't identify

[28:26] with those thoughts if those thoughts

[28:27] need to be there that's fine get some

[28:30] distance from them

[28:32] zoom out to stillness

[28:36] beingness

[28:42] get a substantial distance

[28:45] between your true nature and

[28:48] thought activity

[28:53] your attention can be in stillness

[28:59] in beingness

[29:27] let there be a visceral recognition

[29:33] that the being part of you

[29:36] knows nothing of thought

[29:39] feel the qualitative difference in that

[29:42] category three

[29:43] feel the qualitative difference of

[29:45] stillness beingness

[29:46] that is not obscured

[29:51] by thought desire wanting more

[29:58] anchor into that qualitative difference

[30:00] let your body recognize it

[30:05] let it be here as though your body is a

[30:08] um

[30:11] a portal an aperture

[30:14] in all that is to to to allow that

[30:17] frequency to be more here

[30:23] and to be known by your body-mind

[30:35] recognition

[30:49] and if the body is cranking up a story

[30:53] if your mind is cranking up a repeating

[30:56] pattern of

[30:57] thinking that might be kind of painful

[30:59] that you're not done with that you

[31:01] chew on you know how how it can get and

[31:04] something

[31:05] something happens and then it takes

[31:07] quite a while for that idea to subside

[31:11] and it feels like your attention

[31:12] automatically goes there and that you

[31:14] have no power

[31:15] except to pull it away

[31:18] let's put that on the fair off planet

[31:22] not to dissociate but to get to get

[31:25] more space in your body-mind mechanism

[31:28] for beingness and stillness

[31:30] create more space here

[31:35] allow more of your attention to be

[31:37] withdrawn to source from where it came

[31:48] all traumas all stories

[31:51] on that far off planet out there

[32:04] and as we let your body feel

[32:08] viscerally feel stillness

[32:14] beingness

[32:20] hopefully in category three which says

[32:26] there's nothing else all the rest of it

[32:27] i don't have to pick up my mind to

[32:29] create anything except the stillness and

[32:31] beingness

[32:35] see if you can feel where that

[32:38] is an experience that

[32:41] i'd have to kind of

[32:47] move something inside me in order to

[32:52] plug in to any story right now

[32:56] withdraw to to where that's valid

[33:01] that it's too much effort to plug into

[33:03] any story

[33:16] and from here

[33:21] let there be another opening in

[33:23] perception

[33:25] which goes prior to or deeper

[33:30] than being

[33:33] let your body hang out in being your

[33:36] body needs that

[33:38] that's as far as it can go it can enjoy

[33:42] the

[33:42] stillness it can enjoy that non-dual

[33:46] being level

[33:50] it's very good for your body

[33:53] let it be dialed into that frequency

[33:55] where your attention is at home

[33:59] and let's open deeper than that another

[34:03] layer of perception

[34:04] where you as pure awareness

[34:09] that part of you

[34:13] knows it

[34:18] let an opening show up don't look for it

[34:21] let it show up

[34:25] the only thing you can do is dissolve

[34:27] deeper it's kind of the only thing you

[34:28] can do

[34:37] dissolve deeper

[34:41] beingness is absent

[34:50] there is nothing to be

[34:55] existence never showed up

[35:04] time doesn't make sense there

[35:12] i'm using the word there but there is no

[35:15] space either

[35:16] [Music]

[35:43] outside of all of it outside of all of

[35:57] it

[36:01] there's no sense of a place to rest or

[36:04] there's no

[36:05] the idea of your true nature your

[36:08] essence

[36:10] doesn't make sense

[36:16] let's you know i gotta use language to

[36:20] point

[36:20] but it's not really any of these things

[36:24] it's not really nothing it's not really

[36:26] the void

[36:27] it's not really emptiness

[36:31] deeper than those pointers

[36:35] use the pointers if they're useful

[36:38] dissolve dissolve dissolve dissolve

[36:44] another pointer might be

[36:48] nothing nothing could actually have

[36:53] happened

[36:54] ever

[36:59] that might seem somehow plausible

[37:15] thank you

[37:24] outside of all of it

[37:52] it's like pure pure the level of pure

[37:55] awareness

[37:56] of pure oneness stillness

[38:01] the level that level

[38:05] has an opening and

[38:18] notice if your mind is coming in with i

[38:20] can't get it

[38:21] is that right is this what she's talking

[38:23] about put that on the other planet

[38:26] put that out there drop back in

[38:29] because to play with those thoughts is

[38:31] going to move you further away from it

[38:34] dissolve dissolve dissolve

[38:45] dissolve

[38:52] prior to time

[39:00] prior to

[39:04] dot dot dot every word every concept

[39:08] would fit in there every concept

[39:12] prior to divine prior to

[39:17] big bang prior to

[39:28] your body can hang out at the non-jewel

[39:31] level

[39:32] your consciousness can open

[39:35] to this recognition

[39:39] let this opening show up for you

[39:44] if you wanted to show up you're moving

[39:46] towards the mind

[39:48] and towards thought

[39:52] so it's a bit tricky like that because

[39:54] all you can do is let go

[39:57] and if what i'm saying makes sense fine

[40:01] if you feel like you've achieved

[40:03] something you've gone back onto that

[40:04] planet

[40:05] jumping around trying to make it better

[40:07] for the me

[40:10] leave it be leave it be

[40:14] the planet will be waiting

[40:17] doing just fine let this opening happen

[40:37] oh

[40:50] outside of all of it

[41:32] don't fall asleep

[41:43] notice that the body

[41:47] enjoys stillness beingness

[41:52] that open awareness

[42:03] let your body be there

[42:20] it's you as pure awareness

[42:25] can let an opening show up

[42:33] and deeper than that opening there's no

[42:36] question of a ground to stand on or no

[42:38] question of anything

[42:40] there's nothing to say nothing

[42:43] to say nothing

[42:58] and wherever

[43:07] i'm

[43:11] the jack woman on the planet is trying

[43:13] to find words to talk back out but

[43:15] there's

[43:15] like

[43:18] it's like it doesn't work you know

[43:20] inside me it's like a

[43:24] i'm aware of like a gear shift to

[43:28] to turn back on the movie our collective

[43:31] movie

[43:34] and this is what we do can i find a way

[43:43] can i find a way

[43:46] to maintain

[43:50] and a deep

[43:56] word-less opening

[44:00] that can be maintained

[44:06] that that is known to each of you

[44:13] and as consciousness shows up

[44:19] beingness and stillness and pure

[44:21] awareness is known

[44:23] to each of you your true nature

[44:27] resonates in your body mind mechanism

[44:34] and there is mind it's yakida yak

[44:39] standing on a far away planet

[44:45] let that

[44:49] manifestation

[44:56] have its place

[45:00] the opening from the non-jewel to deeper

[45:05] there is none of this stuff that i'm

[45:07] talking about

[45:09] there just isn't there kind of couldn't

[45:11] be

[45:12] there couldn't be let that

[45:16] show up and if the beingness and the

[45:20] stillness is as deep as you can go

[45:23] then it's beautiful to hang out there

[45:26] and recognize yeah the invitation to an

[45:30] opening let it be here let it be here

[45:35] and in that way we we have an

[45:38] antidote to attachment to the non-jewel

[45:42] that's what i'm looking for it's like

[45:44] let's

[45:45] let's just not be attached to the

[45:47] non-jewel

[45:49] it's it's one layer it's a good layer

[45:53] and it's the layer from which we can

[45:55] live in freedom in the world

[45:58] but i want spiritual capacity to

[46:02] to go all the way

[46:05] all the way into that endless limitless

[46:10] no concept at all prior prior prayer

[46:15] nothing ever happened recognition

[46:17] nothing

[46:27] nothing

[46:29] and watch if your mind is saying i don't

[46:31] get it

[46:32] it's like let it show up whatever the

[46:35] experiences

[46:36] let it show up without

[46:40] hmm without making a me story out of it

[46:44] that's tricky because

[46:50] on the yakida yak being on the planet

[46:53] there's

[46:54] jack talking and there's the truth serum

[46:56] cafe and it's sunday and it's april 2021

[46:59] and all these stories come in and create

[47:02] a reality

[47:09] and as i list those things that are in

[47:12] the

[47:13] present day dual world

[47:16] is there a shift inside is there a shift

[47:21] the opening to deeper than all of us

[47:24] is there a taste of the opening

[47:28] is your body mind mechanism

[47:34] enjoying stillness and beingness or has

[47:37] your attention gone into thought

[47:40] and it's all about you

[47:44] the all about you story can continue but

[47:47] let it be out there

[47:48] without dissociating you know let it

[47:50] you're in observer

[47:52] let it be out there you're accountable

[47:55] you're responsible

[47:56] you're letting your humanness be the

[47:58] beautiful thing that it is

[48:01] in proportion in proportion

[48:10] it's thought an emotion

[48:13] and a big hodgepodge of stories

[48:18] your stories about everything and

[48:20] everybody's stories about you

[48:21] and everybody's stories about each other

[48:23] that's all it is actually

[48:28] and we take it so seriously how do we

[48:31] navigate through our story to a better

[48:33] story that's the machine

[48:42] try to not take it so seriously and you

[48:46] won't take it that seriously if you're

[48:47] in the wider viewing point

[48:49] because you'll see it's simply a part of

[48:54] oh my goodness magnificence

[49:00] it's a little part

[49:03] and be sure not to cancel out what's

[49:07] going on for

[49:08] the yakitiak person on top of our little

[49:10] personal planet

[49:12] be sure not to cancel out what thought

[49:17] is doing

[49:18] with a spiritual concept

[49:23] don't cancel it out

[49:27] hold it all hold it all

[49:33] don't take it too seriously

[49:38] and not taking it seriously doesn't

[49:39] cancel it out

[49:41] it keeps an opening it stops you from

[49:43] locking into identification

[49:47] don't lock into identification

[49:51] as that being on top of their own planet

[49:53] don't lock into it

[49:54] that was never what you are it's not

[49:56] what you are

[49:58] making mechanism great fun

[50:03] when you don't take it seriously

[50:07] don't contract into it it's such a small

[50:11] tiny

[50:14] ripple

[50:18] it's hardly even a wave on top of the

[50:19] ocean it's like a little ripple

[50:26] and the depth of the ocean that

[50:28] stillness

[50:29] beingness of the non-jewel

[50:33] and deeper than that let there be an

[50:36] opening

[50:37] deeper than that

[50:45] is there access to all three is there a

[50:48] sense of

[50:50] of these three levels the dual the

[50:53] non-dual

[50:55] and deeper than that

[50:58] are are you an either or a person and it

[51:01] jars

[51:02] when i speak of the three in succession

[51:05] in this way

[51:23] where are you looking from

[51:27] can you do the person in storyland

[51:31] on their planet can you do that one

[51:35] while you're abiding in being a

[51:37] stillness

[51:40] or can you do that one while your body

[51:43] is

[51:44] is calm and relaxed doing being

[51:46] stillness there's an awareness of that

[51:49] aroma and there's an opening to

[51:53] recognition

[51:56] of outside of all of us

[52:01] can you can you support the the thought

[52:05] created

[52:09] lowercase our reality

[52:12] can you support creation and all of its

[52:15] story

[52:17] and being is it from being that you can

[52:20] see it

[52:21] or is there an opening in beingness

[52:26] going prior

[52:29] if there's that opening in beingness

[52:31] going prior

[52:38] will there be an honoring and honoring

[52:42] of what is

[52:45] delusional from there it's kind of

[52:48] delusional

[52:54] can we honor it

[53:13] so

[53:26] from your beingness

[53:29] send love to

[53:35] the human form the story made mechanism

[53:38] on top of your own particular planet

[53:41] that being that's going yakitori

[53:45] this is my story this is my life this is

[53:46] what needs to happen this is what's

[53:47] bothering me

[53:49] there'll be plenty material there always

[53:51] that's what it does

[53:56] and so can you

[54:01] can you love it and hold it and bless it

[54:04] and enjoy it

[54:08] can there be that

[54:11] an awareness that that is the energy

[54:14] between your beingness stillness

[54:16] non-jewish layer

[54:19] and and the you on top of a planet

[54:22] bless it even the

[54:26] things that it's most troubled by bless

[54:28] it and don't take it too seriously

[54:35] no dismissing love compassion

[54:47] when you get to recognize it you know it

[54:49] kind of never happened it's imagining

[54:51] itself

[54:52] it's imagining itself when you when you

[54:55] see that

[54:59] it's important to love it and hold it

[55:02] and support it

[55:09] because

[55:15] the very fact that it's allowed happen

[55:17] comes from love itself

[55:21] and when we dismiss

[55:26] the human story making mechanism

[55:30] if you dig into that you'll find that

[55:32] we're not really embodied

[55:34] or we're avoiding something we're

[55:37] shutting down something

[55:45] let there be love let there be love let

[55:48] there be love

[55:50] for your beingness

[55:54] for your story-making mechanism

[55:58] and for the magnificence of so many

[56:00] stories

[56:02] being taken seriously

[56:05] have compassion for even that mechanism

[56:08] have compassion for it

[56:35] when when i do a a meditation that's

[56:37] just that's

[56:38] this deep that goes deeper than the

[56:40] non-jewel i usually

[56:42] bring you guys back and kind of

[56:45] leave the the um

[56:49] i've always tried to

[56:52] kind of safely

[56:55] almost shut down but but pull your

[56:57] awareness back

[56:58] into the human form and i have no pull

[57:02] to do that

[57:03] it's like i want to do my best to create

[57:06] the openings and let them there

[57:11] and let them there rather than okay

[57:14] let's come back really safely into our

[57:16] body

[57:17] something in me is saying whoever has

[57:19] showed up today

[57:20] is is is able to let these openings be

[57:23] here and function

[57:25] on this sunday or monday wherever you

[57:27] are on the planet

[57:32] i'm i'm trusting that each of you can

[57:36] manage even though it's like a a no-no

[57:39] in terms of a guided meditation

[57:40] to leave you wide open it's like no

[57:42] actually actually you're able for this

[57:44] you're able for this you're able for

[57:53] this

[57:56] you

Frequently Asked Questions

The Truth Serum Cafe is a weekly online gathering with Jac O'Keeffe held on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:00 PM ET. Participants bring their own tea or coffee, and the sessions combine guided deep meditation with discussion of spiritual awareness and everyday living.
In this recording, beingness refers to a stillness that is not created by thought and is not touched by any concept. Jac O'Keeffe says it is picked up by stillness rather than by the mind, and that it is experienced directly rather than understood intellectually.
Jac O'Keeffe describes the relationship as a one-way street: stillness can be aware of thought, but thought can only hold an idea about stillness. She advises listeners to notice the difference between thinking about stillness and being in the felt experience of it.
The video's description says it is deliberately open-ended and that if you are new to meditation, this is not for you. The instructions move quickly from the body to emotions to attention and the non-dual field, so newcomers may find it easier to start with the breath work and opening body scan.
The dissolving is a practice of non-attachment. Jac O'Keeffe invites listeners to release physical tension, the core of the body and the emotional capacity so that attention can withdraw from story and rest in stillness, rather than holding on to memory or identity.
According to the channel's description, Jac O'Keeffe is clear that non-dual awareness is a stepping stone and not a destination. Her teaching in this session points listeners past any achievement, including the experience of stillness itself.
