Where to Start with Sarah Blondin: A Beginner's Guide

Sarah Blondin is a storyteller, author, and meditation guide whose courses, including "This Deepest Self" and "Coming Home to Yourself," have been studied by over 200,000 students. Her work is broad, but the way in is simple.

The Single Best Entry Point: The Live Awake Podcast

Start with her podcast, Live Awake. Each episode reflects on a hard stretch of life's landscape and ends with a short guided meditation. An episode runs roughly 15 to 20 minutes, so you can hear her voice, pacing, and sensibility without buying anything or committing to a course. Pick an episode whose topic matches what you're carrying right now. That is how the show is built to be used.

The Next Three Places to Go

**The album Meditations for Living an Awakened Life (2021, seven tracks).** If the podcast's closing meditations were the part you liked most, this is the next step. It's on Spotify, and it gives you guided meditations without the surrounding conversation.

**The book Heart-Minded.** This is her most formal teaching, the place where her philosophy is written out rather than spoken. Read it if you want something to underline and return to.

A course: "Coming Home to Yourself" or "This Deepest Self." These are for when you want structure. They're built progressively, and you can sample how she lays out the teaching on sarahblondin.com before enrolling.

What to Expect on a First Encounter

Expect a calm, grounded, conversational voice, not a hushed and ethereal one. Her method is storytelling. She tells a story, often from life, then guides you into a meditation that lands the point. The heart is central, and she talks about regulating the body and heart and staying joyful whatever happens. The tone is restrained. There's no breathless promise of transformation.

Common Beginner Misunderstandings

Expecting a technique manual. Many teachers hand you breathwork, body scans, or mantras. Sarah's emphasis is on examining the stories you carry. If you arrive wanting a systematic, technical progression, it may feel too informal.

Expecting escape. This work isn't about feeling nothing or transcending the body. Hard times are treated as part of the practice, not interruptions to it.

Looking for a lineage. Her bio names no tradition or teacher, and none should be assumed. Her approach is personal and contemporary, which suits some people and not others.

Treating it as a one-time fix. Her message favors small, repeated returns to the heart over a single breakthrough. A single episode is a sample, not the whole experience.

When This Work Tends to Land Hardest

It lands hardest when you're in the middle of something difficult: grief, confusion, loss, or a period of repeating the same inner loops of self-judgment. The podcast is explicitly organized around hard terrain, and her premise is that her own tangled knots can help loosen yours. It also suits people who are tired of spiritual culture but still want a practice, and who are comfortable with introspection. If you're numbing out or avoiding your own feelings, expect it to feel destabilizing at first.

A One-Week Starter Plan

Day 1: Listen to one Live Awake episode, including the closing meditation. Afterward, write down one sentence about what stirred.

Day 2: Listen to a second episode on a different theme. Notice whether the story or the meditation does more for you.

Day 3: Play a track from Meditations for Living an Awakened Life. Use it at a fixed time, such as morning or before bed.

Day 4: Return to the same track or try another. Repetition is part of her approach.

Day 5: Listen to a third podcast episode, preferably on a topic you'd normally avoid.

Day 6: Read from Heart-Minded, or if you prefer listening, finish another album track. Compare how the written and spoken forms feel.

Day 7: Review your notes. Decide which format held you best: podcast, album, or book. If you want guidance with more scaffolding, look at the course pages for "Coming Home to Yourself" and "This Deepest Self" on sarahblondin.com.

By the end of the week you'll know whether her voice and method fit you, and which format to go deeper with.
