Orit Krug is a Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) with a Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy. Her name is pronounced oh-reet and means "my light." She describes her work as sharing that light by helping clients heal old trauma and open their hearts to healthy, lasting relationships.
Her approach rests on the idea that healing happens in the body. She teaches that trauma is stored in the body and can leave the nervous system reacting to small triggers as if past danger were still present. To help the body believe it is safe to trust and love, she works to reach trauma held in the non-verbal parts of the brain and release it through movement. She works with people who are monogamous and people who are ethically non-monogamous.
Earlier in her career she worked in a psychiatric hospital. She was in charge of around ten creative arts therapists who ran the hospital's group therapy, and she led dance therapy groups of 10 to 30 people. She writes that she watched many patients move from isolation toward a sense of belonging when they were met without judgment.
Her own story shapes her work. She writes that for almost 30 years, childhood trauma led her to choose fear over love and to sabotage relationships. Learning that she had experienced trauma, and working to calm her nervous system, changed that.
Today she leads somatic healing retreats that combine dance/movement therapy sessions, parts work and time in nature. She has guided thousands of people in over 15 years of practice, and her site counts more than 5,000 people across 20+ countries.
Worth Knowing
Orit Krug is a Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) with a Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy, and she leads somatic healing retreats alongside her clinical work. Her name is pronounced oh-reet and means 'my light,' and she describes her job as sharing that light by helping clients release old trauma so they can open their hearts to healthy, lasting relationships. What sets her apart from many wellness teachers is the clinical credential underneath the work, so her account of trauma and the nervous system rests on licensed training rather than loose self-help shorthand. Her own history is central to the story: she writes that for almost thirty years childhood trauma led her to choose fear over love and sabotage her relationships, and that learning she had been traumatized, then calming her nervous system, changed that pattern. Earlier in her career she worked in a psychiatric hospital, where she oversaw around ten creative arts therapists running group therapy and led dance therapy groups of 10 to 30 people. Her site reports more than 5,000 people across 20-plus countries, and she describes guiding thousands of people over more than 15 years of practice.
