Myndstream is a functional music company that creates music designed for health and wellbeing. It describes its work as artist-led and science-informed, and it sits, in its own words, at the intersection between art and science. Its stated aim is to be the most validated and impactful music business in the world, built on the belief that music combined with credible research can support health and wellbeing.
Myndstream grew out of a leading provider of music for film and TV, a background that stretches from Harry Potter to The White Lotus, and it brings 25 years of that expertise to wellness. Its founder and CEO, Freddie Moross, writes that he grew up in an environment where music truly mattered, and that for the last 20 years music has been his family's passion and business. His stated aim is to bring background music to the foreground through intentional design, whether the goal is improving sleep, enhancing hospitality experiences or complementing traditional healthcare practices. Moross serves on the board of the Global Wellness Institute. Richard Carmona, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, who serves on that board with him, has joined Myndstream as an advisor.
The music is made by what the company calls a network of musicians, together with scientists and wellness practitioners. Its core offering is The Stream, a library of soundscapes categorized by mood, outcome and duration. Collections include Deep Relaxation, Calm & Restore, Destress with 532Hz, Energy Revive, Grounded in Nature and Rest & Release. For spa work, soundscapes are timed to common treatment lengths of 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. A Breathwork category offers shorter pieces of 5, 10 and 15 minutes, and 12-hour and 24-hour soundscapes are made to run through a whole day. Soundscapes can be downloaded for offline playback, and the music connects to existing speaker systems by Bluetooth, AirPlay, wired connection or networked audio.
Beyond the library, Myndstream offers Sensory Mapping, in which its team curates and manages music for each zone and guest journey of a space. It also offers My Stream, a co-branded platform that gives a partner's users on-demand access to functional music through a web app or SDK. Its Bespoke Services pair a brand with artists to create a signature sound. The company also publishes articles on the research behind its work, including music and cortisol, tempo and heart rate, and how sound shapes the guest experience.
Myndstream serves four fields: healthcare, hospitality, spa and wellness, and education. Spa and wellness customers range from day spas and independent therapists to fitness centre spas and therapeutic or medical spas. The pages name Six Senses, where bespoke soundscapes were commissioned for a signature holistic massage. They also name Circadia, whose chief executive describes using music as a therapeutic layer that supports sleep cycles. Forbes Travel Guide's chief executive calls Myndstream its Official Audio Partner.
The people it is for are the guests, clients, patients, students and staff who hear the music, and the teams who choose it for their spaces. Spa clients quoted on the site describe wanting to fall asleep as soon as they lie down. Therapists are said to enjoy working to the soundscapes. The company's stated mission is to connect art, science and technology to provide functional music that enhances the wellbeing of every person who feels it. Its music is also available to listeners on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and Amazon Music.
Worth Knowing
Myndstream is a wellness music company rather than a solo performer, and its catalogue is built around what the music is meant to do for a listener. The company describes itself as sitting at the intersection of art and science, and it curates, produces and releases functional music for meditation, relaxation, sleep, focus and movement. Its Founder and CEO, Freddie Moross, writes on the About page that music has been his family's passion and business for about 20 years. The company grew out of a long-established provider of music for film and television, bringing roughly 25 years of that expertise into health and wellbeing. People pay attention because of that commercial background combined with an explicit claim that music backed by research can support health, a claim the company ties to scientific and clinical advisors. Both the pedigree and the clinical framing are self-described on the company's own site, so they are worth checking against outside sources before weighting them heavily. Spotify lists about 1.3 million followers, which indicates a large listening audience, though it is a platform metric rather than a critical assessment.
