Mx Puja Singh

Mx Puja Singh, also known as Puja (they/he), is a queer, nonbinary, Indian Canadian singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and teacher. Puja is based on Tongva land in Los Angeles, California, and was born on the land of the Tsawwassen, Musqueam and other Coast Salish peoples, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. "Mx" is pronounced "mix" and is a gender-neutral prefix used the way ms, mrs or mr would be.

Puja makes indie alt pop that draws on a wide range of influences, from pop, house, techno and alternative to trip hop, Indian classical, hyperpop and folk. The songs explore nature, getting to know yourself, healing, the spirit world, death and the interconnectedness of everything.

Coming from a Punjabi Sikh background and deeply in love with India from a young age, Puja keeps learning about their own lineage and the practices and traditions that come from that land and culture. They practice and teach kīrtan, Indian devotional music, and study Indian classical music (rāga sangīt) with Sri Subhashish Mukhopadyay, described as a topmost exponent of the Kotali gharana.

Puja's work is informed by, and shared through, a lens of decolonization and the dismantling of oppressive systems of power such as white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism.
