Flowers, Tapas, and the Open-Heart Field in Live Kirtan

Wah!
Wah!
Oct 24, 2026
9 min read
Watch · 7

The first thing you hear is a name. "Namaste Amelia. Namaste Coral Rose." Then another, and another, read out as they arrive in a live chat room on a Friday evening in October, two days ahead of a full moon in Taurus. Under the greetings sits a harmonium drone and the layered textures of Ableton Live, and the voice comes in over the top, singing a song to Sarasvati before the teacher has finished welcoming everyone. The broadcast, published on the Everything Wah! channel under the name Wah!, plays like a door left open: people step in, are acknowledged, and the chant begins before the room has settled. What follows over the next hour is less a lecture than a working demonstration of one idea, that a gathering of people can be tuned like an instrument, and that the tuning starts with what each person brings in.

Why does a kirtan livestream open with a roll call?

Anyone who has sat in a physical kirtan knows the moment the call-and-response begins and the room stops being a set of separate people. The livestream has to manufacture that moment through text. Here the teacher does it by naming everyone who arrives, and the names come in a steady stream throughout the broadcast: Karen and Deborah, Ripple Creeks, Amy's Joy, JT, Mariana. Each greeting is a small act of attention. Around the twenty-minute mark the speaker says, "All these beautiful souls bringing their light," and the phrase works as an inventory. The gathering is not a broadcast with an audience. It is a list of specific people, present on purpose.

The craft behind it is worth taking seriously. A harmonium drone is a sustained floor; the voice moves against it, and the electronic layers hold the pulse so the singer can drop out and come back without the room losing its center. In a kirtan the repetition is the point. A short Sanskrit phrase is sung again and again until the words stop being words and become a kind of texture, and the attention that used to chase meaning settles into the sound itself. The livestream keeps this structure intact even while the chat scrolls, which is its own small discipline.

What does it mean to offer flowers through a chat room?

The most distinctive idea in the broadcast is the flower. The teacher says that many people send flowers, and that a flower from the garden is offered to the gathering as a deliberate gesture. Then comes the reasoning, which is the spine of the whole evening. In the speaker's words, "Flowers carry fragrance and flowers are capable of going between the worlds with their essence." Fragrance, in this framing, is something that moves through realms: smelling a rose, using an essential oil, or picking daisies all count as ways of meeting a quality that travels beyond the body.

From there the teacher turns the image on the listener. "All of nature flowers before it gives fruit," the speaker says, and the implication is direct: "So you are part of nature. So you are supposed to flower blossom. You are supposed to emit your fragrance and then the fruit will come." This is a practice principle as much as a metaphor. The fruit, the result, the visible change in a life, comes after the flowering, which is the open, fragrant expression of who you already are. It is a useful corrective to the instinct to demand outcomes before you have offered anything.

The teacher also draws a line against a common habit of spiritual consumption. "So this is not the snatch and grab show," the speaker says, the room laughing with them. Offering flowers in a chat is a way of saying that the exchange runs in both directions. You arrive to give something, not only to take.

What is the "field" that the teacher keeps describing?

The central claim of the evening is communal. "Spirituality is about exuding a certain energy and then having it attached to other exuding and expanding light," the speaker says, "and then it creates a field which we all can feel and manifest from." The language is that of resonance: many small sources of light, each steady, together producing something larger than any one of them. The speaker calls this a "heart-centered vibration," and goes so far as to point to what they describe as measurable heart math, a reference to heart-rhythm research, and to an electromagnetic dimension of the field that the group creates together.

Whether one accepts the physical framing is a separate question. What the teaching offers is a clear practical instruction. Show up with your full attention, add whatever you have, and let the collective pulse carry the rest. Around the twenty-minute mark the speaker says, "Let's create the highest vibration for all of us," and then names the tools directly: "chant, sing, dance, use the chat room, add love, add whatever frequency we can." The method is simple enough that a newcomer can join it without any prior training, which may be the most generous thing about it.

What does the teacher mean by tapas when things are not going well?

The broadcast is not only celebratory. The speaker describes a hard stretch: power outages, winds gusting to 60 miles per hour, branches and debris flying, smoke that left their eyes burning for days, and a period of borrowing generators while neighbors went without power. "It's difficult to feel uh hopeful at a point where you have no electricity," the speaker says, and then admits, "No, you have meltdowns. You have realizations. You do what you can." The candor is what gives the rest of the teaching weight. Spiritual language that ignores physical strain sounds hollow. This language does not.

The answer the teacher offers is tapas. In the yogic tradition, the speaker explains, tapas, within sādhanā, "means purification." The speaker's own confession is part of the teaching: "I'm not perfect, but I'm trying. I'm trying to be pure." And then the instruction: "if you're not and things are not going well, do more tapas." Tapas here is not punishment. It is the disciplined, ongoing work of clearing what gets in the way, and the speaker frames it as "taking responsibility for your path." Hardship becomes the occasion for practice rather than proof that practice has failed.

The speaker also acknowledges, in the same stretch, a sense of accelerating collapse in the wider world. The broadcast makes a number of broad claims about health systems, schools and vaccines that this article does not assess or repeat. What is worth taking from it is the emotional logic: when the outer world feels unstable, the teacher's prescription is to turn toward the inner work and toward the people who are still gathering.

How does a repeated song become a practice?

Around the midpoint the chant turns to a sung refrain, and the lyrics are the plainest statement of the teaching. "Open your heart. Not to me, but to everything." The line is repeated, varied, and broken apart, and the variations carry the meaning. "Open your eyes to all the lies. Open your heart, even if it's falling apart." "It doesn't matter if it's work or play. The way it's how you feel inside." Repetition does what argument cannot: it lets the listener arrive at the idea through the body. The speaker's own note that "not to me" matters, because it places the source of the openness outside the teacher. The gathering is a practice for opening to life itself, not a devotion that routes through one person.

Why does the teacher keep the gathering free?

Near the end the speaker speaks plainly about money. The teacher mentions a Substack offering that is free for this final week, and says that a paid subscription would cost eight dollars a month for the memes and teachings shared there, while the concert itself stays free. "I don't want to put a paywall in front of it," the speaker says. The reasoning is explicit: "There's nothing to join. There's no tribe. There's no narrative here." The request, if there is one, is for people to come and offer their hearts "authentically and honestly," and to release frustration that others do not see things the same way.

The words are worth weighing for what they reveal about the whole project. The teacher is asking the room to stop performing belonging and simply show up to the shared pulse. Whether that lands depends on the listener, but the structure of the evening is consistent: name each person, sing the same line, offer what you have, and let the field do the rest.

Where to go from here

If this broadcast interests you, the most useful next step is to try its practices in a small, concrete way. Pick one phrase, something like "Open your heart," and repeat it for five minutes with no goal. Notice what changes in the body before the mind has an opinion. Then consider the flower image: what in your life is ready to flower before it can bear fruit, and what would it look like to emit that fragrance without waiting for proof? Finally, notice where your own tapas, your steady purification, is actually happening. Hardship, in this teaching, is not the end of practice. It is often where the practice gets real.

Watch the full video to hear the chant in its own rhythm, since much of what the teacher does cannot be carried on the page. The transcript is auto-generated and fragmentary, so the best way to feel the evening is to sit with the sound itself.

[14:21] Namaste to all of you.

[14:24] Sorry we weren't available last week.

[14:28] [laughter]

[14:30] >> [sighs]

[14:30] >> Oh my word. So yeah, full moon in Taurus

[14:34] then coming in two days. Um it's all

[14:37] about stuff. It's all about losing your

[14:40] stuff. It's all about moving your stuff.

[14:41] It's all about changing your stuff,

[14:43] buying new stuff, exchanging stuff.

[14:46] [laughter]

[14:48] Let the musical chairs begin. Namaste,

[14:51] Mariana.

[14:54] So uh

[14:56] yeah.

[14:58] So at the same time that our light is

[15:00] accelerating, the angels, angelic

[15:02] frequencies,

[15:04] uh new realizations, um

[15:08] supreme

[15:11] presence

[15:12] as much as that's available and

[15:14] accelerating,

[15:16] the collapse is accelerating.

[15:19] It's just madness out there

[15:22] and hopefully not madness in here.

[15:26] So we c we create um chant, sing, dance,

[15:30] use the chat room, add love, add

[15:34] whatever frequency we can in order to

[15:36] create the highest vibration for all of

[15:38] us. A lot of people send flowers because

[15:41] flowers are the medium. Here's our

[15:44] flower from the garden for tonight

[15:48] and beautiful offering.

[15:50] And why do we use flowers and why do we

[15:52] chat room flowers? Flowers carry

[15:56] fragrance

[15:58] and flowers are capable of going

[16:02] uh between

[16:04] the worlds with their essence.

[16:08] So fragrance is something that can

[16:10] permeate and move through um various

[16:15] realms. And so smelling rose for example

[16:19] or an essential oil or picking daisies

[16:23] or whatever um all plants flower before

[16:28] they give fruit.

[16:31] Should I say it again?

[16:34] All of nature flowers

[16:36] before it gives fruit.

[16:39] So you are part of nature. So you are

[16:42] supposed to flower

[16:44] blossom. You are supposed to emit your

[16:47] fragrance and then the fruit will come.

[16:52] Right? So this is not the snatch and

[16:55] grab show. [laughter]

[16:58] Spirituality is about exuding a certain

[17:03] energy and then having it attached to

[17:06] other exuding and expanding light and

[17:09] then it creates a field which we all can

[17:14] feel and manifest from. All right. The

[17:17] accelerated collapse

[17:21] that's difficult that's difficult to

[17:24] see.

[17:25] Right? They're up to billions, I think

[17:29] trillions now, um, attributed to the

[17:33] mRNA vaccine.

[17:36] They're now finally compiling the data,

[17:38] they're finally saying no, it wasn't

[17:39] safe and it wasn't effective. And

[17:41] actually

[17:43] within one week, and many people died

[17:45] that same night, um, they murdered

[17:49] millions, trillions of people worldwide.

[17:52] So, and that's just one example, right?

[17:55] That's just like a drop in the bucket.

[17:59] And so as health system, as the school

[18:03] systems, my son is saying like it's

[18:06] difficult to find a school now because

[18:07] they're shutting down because they can't

[18:09] get public funding.

[18:11] people are like, "If you're going to

[18:14] mandate vaccines, if you're going to

[18:17] teach curriculum that is not useful um

[18:20] and maybe even follow guidelines that

[18:23] are detrimental to their children, then

[18:25] they're not participating." So, I think

[18:27] skyrocketing homeschooling um numbers

[18:31] like that. So, like major shifts, shifts

[18:33] in money, um shifts in uh jobs, shifts

[18:40] all over. So, it's just like, and I

[18:43] myself, right, was in the middle of um

[18:45] power outages, 60 mph winds, just trees,

[18:48] branches, stuff, debris flying all over

[18:52] the place, smoke. My eyes were burning

[18:54] for days. And [clears throat]

[18:57] um it's difficult to keep poise.

[19:01] It's difficult to feel like, wow, this

[19:03] is great. We're moving into the Aquarian

[19:06] age, or however you want to say it. It's

[19:08] like it's um it's difficult to feel uh

[19:14] hopeful

[19:15] at a point where you have no electricity

[19:18] uh and no one around you has electricity

[19:20] and you're you're you know like

[19:22] borrowing generators and you know feels

[19:25] like when I toured through New York City

[19:28] after 9/11

[19:30] um you know it's a war zone and so then

[19:34] you know when you can't get something to

[19:36] eat when you're dehydrated When you're

[19:39] at your up against your edge,

[19:43] it's hard to feel like, oh, okay. Like,

[19:46] this is the collapse that Wall was

[19:48] talking about. Yeah. Okay. [laughter]

[19:52] No,

[19:54] you have meltdowns. You

[19:58] have realizations. You You do what you

[20:02] can.

[20:04] And so what we're doing here and which

[20:07] is why I'm keeping it free and I've told

[20:11] all of you already and Jen has helped me

[20:13] as well. But um this is the last free

[20:16] week for Substack. And so if you did

[20:18] sign up for Substack, I'm putting a lot

[20:19] of energy into it. Um if you paid $8 a

[20:23] month for these beautiful memes and

[20:25] teachings,

[20:27] uh and you got a this concert, it would

[20:30] be $2 a concert, right? But concert

[20:34] remains free because we absolutely have

[20:38] to be doing this work.

[20:40] We have to and I don't want to put a

[20:42] payw wall in front of it. I want all of

[20:43] you to come and to offer your hearts

[20:46] authentically and honestly.

[20:49] There's nothing to join. There's no

[20:50] tribe. There's no narrative here. I'm

[20:53] just saying

[20:56] [sighs]

[20:58] to release your frustration, to release

[21:02] your anger that everybody doesn't think

[21:06] or believe the way that you do, and to

[21:10] just feel people's hearts joining in the

[21:12] best way that they can in order to pick

[21:16] up the pieces and create the new.

[21:20] That's all. We're just creating a heart

[21:23] centered vibration

[21:27] which is you know measurable heart math

[21:32] heart Taurus field um electromagnetic

[21:36] energy that you create

[21:40] that we create that the flowers create.

[21:44] I want y'all to be just like flowers.

[21:47] Just be like take your heart and just

[21:51] Oh, hi.

[21:54] [laughter]

[21:55] [gasps] Hi.

[21:57] Um, I'm not perfect, but I'm trying.

[22:02] I'm trying.

[22:04] I'm trying to be pure.

[22:08] And if you're not and things are not

[22:10] going well, do more tapas. Tapas in in

[22:13] sadna in the yogic world means

[22:16] purification.

[22:20] And that's

[22:23] what I know that you know how to do.

[22:30] That's called taking responsibility

[22:33] for your path.

[22:36] All right.

[22:38] I was gone for two weeks. I have a lot

[22:41] to say.

[22:44] All right.

[25:15] The way

[25:17] it's how you feel [music and singing]

[25:18] inside.

[25:21] Do you remember a different day [music]

[25:24] when you felt sublime and no design

[25:29] was out of place? [music and singing]

[25:31] There was no race against time.

[25:37] Open

[25:42] Yeah.

[25:44] Open [music] your heart.

[25:53] Yeah. [music]

[25:58] It doesn't matter [singing]

[26:03] Either way,

[26:06] it's how you feel inside.

[26:09] [music]

[26:11] It's how you feel inside.

[26:22] [music] What's to give?

[26:25] It's just too late.

[26:55] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's [music] beyond

[27:22] Not for a moment. [music]

[27:28] You stick to

[27:30] what you know

[27:35] you feel how you feel

[27:37] [singing and music]

[27:39] and then it becomes real.

[27:42] Yeah. Every [singing] day, [music] all

[27:46] the time,

[27:50] [music]

[27:51] you open

[27:53] to your heart.

[28:24] Yeah. Open

[28:26] your [music] heart. [singing]

[28:30] I said open

[28:33] your heart.

[28:38] Open [music]

[28:40] your heart. [singing] Again,

[28:45] [music]

[28:53] Namaste Curious Shettler

[28:56] and Giardi. Namaste Erica.

[29:10] You have to evolve

[29:13] in motion.

[29:18] You have to evolve

[29:21] while you're juggling.

[29:24] You have to evolve while you're jogging.

[29:27] Namaste Ivon. You have to evolve while

[29:31] you're doing everything. It It's like

[29:34] open your heart, not to me. It doesn't

[29:36] matter if it's work or play. Either way,

[29:39] tune in like how is it that you feel

[29:42] inside and like

[29:47] be your

[29:49] fan club

[29:51] and root for yourself because the angels

[29:53] are your guides are rooting for you.

[29:57] It's like look at th look at those

[30:00] people in incarnation down there. Those

[30:02] are the brave ones. Those are the ones

[30:05] who are going to jump into a body.

[30:07] They're going to hurt. They're going to

[30:09] get injured. They're going to feel pain.

[30:12] They're going to go through stuff in

[30:14] their relationships. They're going to be

[30:16] pregnant. They're going to break their

[30:19] leg. They're going to have brain

[30:20] surgery. There. It's like the kinds of

[30:22] things that happen down here in the

[30:25] incarnation.

[30:27] That's freaking courageous.

[30:31] And so the angels who don't take a body

[30:34] for whatever reason because they want to

[30:37] stay in the higher energy because it's

[30:38] not time for them or whatever. I don't

[30:40] know. But they're up there and they're

[30:43] rooting for you

[30:45] just just like if like your mom would

[30:48] just be like, "Oh, I'm so proud of you.

[30:51] so proud of you and how how hard you're

[30:54] trying and that you never give up and

[30:57] that you always do nice things for

[30:58] people no matter what. That you're

[31:02] always like holding integrity. You're

[31:04] holding the line like they're so proud

[31:06] of you.

[31:08] If you could just feel that

[31:11] and then you just do whatever it is,

[31:14] whatever is in front of you, that's your

[31:15] path. That's what you've agreed to do.

[31:18] Oh, you're going to take care of that

[31:19] person. Okay, take care of that person.

[31:22] Oh, you're going to get a dog, get a

[31:23] dog. Oh, you going to work in hospice?

[31:26] Work in hospice.

[31:28] Work at Trader Joe's. Like, whatever it

[31:30] is that you do, it's all the same. Are

[31:33] you opening your heart while you're

[31:36] doing it? Are you having that

[31:37] realization where it's like, "Oh my god,

[31:39] I'm on a conveyor belt. I'm moving

[31:42] without even trying to move. It's like

[31:44] the whole world is turning and moving

[31:45] and it's like,

[31:47] [sighs] okay, I can relax on this."

[31:49] this. It's like, okay, we're traveling,

[31:51] whatever. Okay, who are you? Oh, okay.

[31:53] Yeah, come on in. Whatever. It's all in

[31:57] motion there. It's never going to stop

[31:59] so you can catch up.

In this broadcast the teacher explains that flowers carry fragrance, and that fragrance can move between realms. Offering a flower is a gesture of giving your essence to the gathering, and the teacher ties it to the idea that all of nature flowers before it bears fruit.
The teacher describes tapas, within sādhanā, as meaning purification. In this talk it is presented as the disciplined, ongoing work of clearing what gets in the way, and as a form of taking responsibility for your path, especially when things are going badly.
The speaker describes a field as the energy created when many people each offer steady, open light together, which then becomes something everyone can feel. The teacher links it to a heart-centered vibration and to heart-rhythm research, though the core idea is communal resonance.
Repetition lets a phrase move from the mind into the body. In this broadcast the refrain 'Open your heart, not to me, but to everything' is sung and varied until the meaning is felt rather than argued.
The teacher admits that power outages, smoke and physical strain make hope difficult, and says 'you have meltdowns, you have realizations, you do what you can.' The prescription offered is to deepen tapas and take responsibility for your path rather than treat hardship as failure.
