Sandy C. Newbigging describes himself as a guide, mentor, meditation teacher, mind–body specialist and author. For over two decades he has worked with people around the world who are ready for something more fundamental than surface-level fixes, and who want inner change that makes a difference in how they think, feel, relate and live.
His own story shapes the work. By his account, his life looked complete from the outside, with achievements, recognition, book deals and media exposure, yet something was missing. That took him beyond conventional coaching, traditional therapy and new-age spiritual ideals. He learned to meet himself honestly, worked with his unresolved history, changed how he related to his thoughts and emotions, and invited body and soul into the conversation. He also spent years under the influence of a narcissistic guru within a spiritual cult. He says leaving that world was challenging and humbling, and that it taught him true spirituality does not aim to transcend the human.
Early in his career he trained in mainstream therapeutic and coaching approaches, then found them too narrow. The result is Integrative Inner Change (IIC), his body of work for understanding and supporting what happens across mind, body and soul. It includes five methods developed over two decades, among them Calmology and the Mind Detox Method. His wider philosophy, This & That, holds that "&" integrates where "or" divides.
His background includes more than 20 years of one-to-one therapeutic, meditation and mentoring work, fourteen years living as a monk, and trauma-informed training. He is the author of internationally published books, and he trains practitioners, having certified them in over 40 countries. His site lists two FHT Tutor of the Year Excellence Awards and features in media including The Times, Psychologies, Red, InStyle and HELLO! Psychologies called him "The Mind Maestro".
Today he offers one-to-one sessions, an online library of courses, and two-hour online masterclasses on themes such as emotions, relationships, trauma awareness and the mind-body connection. He also hosts a podcast. People who work with him often say they feel met rather than managed, and supported rather than fixed.
