Yoga Teacher
Rebecca Mayer is a yoga and meditation teacher who offers online courses, private sessions and small-group retreats through Rebecca Mayer Yoga. She is known for teaching yoga nidra, Qoya movement, elemental yoga and Shakti tantra. Her work is trauma-informed and embodied. It is built around learning to drop beneath the noise and listen.
Her teaching style, as her Insight Timer teacher page describes it, fuses the many schools and traditions, along with things learned in the school of nature, that have healed and liberated her own life force. Her YouTube channel describes video and online personal yoga trainings, intuitive guidance, trauma-informed embodiment practices, somatic healing methods and Shakti tantra. The aim she names is to awaken shakti and then let the shakti move you. She teaches people to connect to the rhythms and energy of nature, to be a receiver, to listen deeply, and to create a life that moves them.
Rebecca Mayer offers four online courses. Elemental Yoga invites students to embody earth, water, fire, air and space. Embody the Goddess awakens goddess archetypes through Qoya movement, fire ceremony and meditation, with journal prompts that deepen the work. Yoga Nidra offers classical and creative techniques for deepening the relationship with nidra shakti, the power of yogic sleep. Yoga and the Moon explores the lunar cycle and the student's own creative and life rhythm. Each course is a complete practice, and students can take it on its own or add live Zoom sessions with Rebecca. She also offers a free Embodiment Meditation, a guided practice for beginning a descent beneath loss, noise and the years of not quite fitting.
Her private sessions are available online or in person, as a single session or ongoing, with packages of 4, 8 and multiple months. Private Yoga is customized practice drawing on pranayama, japa, yoga nidra and earth-based ritual, with the option to build a personal sadhana, a daily practice sustainable enough to last. The Undying Self Sessions use movement, breath, stillness and conversation to find the part of a person that was never touched by what happened, as a felt experience they can return to. Embodied Purpose sessions call a person's purpose into the body through movement, breath, ceremony and reflective dialogue. For people in creative or professional transition, they extend into practical marketing consulting on voice, brand and how you show up in the world.
Rebecca also leads retreats that she describes as honest, embodied and unhurried, each one shaped by who arrives and where the group is. They are small-group gatherings of movement, yoga nidra and ceremony. One is set on a private forest block above the Pacific on Aotea, New Zealand, with island excursions and meals prepared by islanders from local produce. Another is in East Maui, Hawaiʻi, with earth-based ceremony and time with wild plants.
Her work suits people who arrive knowing exactly what they are carrying and people who know only that something has to change. Students describe a sacred, safe container in ceremony and guidance into the body that left them with daily practices. Mirabai Starr, author of Wild Mercy, is among those who recommend her.
