About This Event

Description

If you're serious about your practice, this is the container you've been looking for. The Clear Mountain Upāsakā Study Group brings together committed Buddhist practitioners for structured, ongoing Dhamma study and contemplative inquiry—a rare refuge in a scattered spiritual landscape. On Monday, September 7, 2026, you'll join fellow seekers on Zoom for a two-hour deep dive into the suttas, guided by the wisdom of Ajahn Brahm, a respected Theravada teacher known for translating ancient Buddhist texts into living practice.

This is not a drop-in class. The group convenes on the first and third Monday of each month for practitioners who have committed to the five precepts and daily meditation of at least twenty minutes, six days a week. If you've felt called to move beyond casual spiritual curiosity into disciplined, communal practice rooted in the Buddha's teachings, this gathering meets you where you are—in real time, with real people, studying real texts that have guided practitioners for twenty-five centuries.

The invitation is direct: come prepared to study, listen, and be changed by collective inquiry into the Dharma.

What to Expect

You'll arrive on Zoom for a two-hour session centered on collaborative sutta study. Participants read and discuss Buddhist texts together, bringing their own practice experience and questions to the material. The atmosphere is contemplative and serious without being rigid—there's room for genuine inquiry and personal insight. You'll leave with deeper understanding of a specific teaching, connection to a sangha (community) of practitioners, and a clearer sense of how the Buddha's words apply to your own meditation and daily life. This is structured community, not casual exploration.

About the Artist

Ajahn Brahm is a British-American Buddhist monk and meditation teacher who has dedicated decades to making Theravada Buddhist practice accessible to Western lay practitioners. As the leader of the Dhammakaya International Society of Australia, he brings both scholarly depth and warmth to his teaching. Known for clear, compassionate guidance rooted in traditional practice, Ajahn Brahm helps practitioners see how the suttas speak directly to modern life—making ancient wisdom immediately usable for those earnest about their path.

Venue & Logistics

This study group meets entirely online via Zoom. Sessions run for two hours on the first and third Monday of each month. To participate, you'll need a quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and access to the group's Discord server. Admission is by request—you'll need to apply as an upāsakā (lay practitioner) through the Discord channel, signaling your commitment to the precepts and regular practice.

Common Questions

FAQs

Ajahn Brahm's teaching method roots itself firmly in the Pali Canon—the earliest Buddhist scriptures—while making those classical texts accessible to contemporary Western practitioners. In his study groups, he typically works directly with canonical passages, explaining their meaning and application to modern life, so you'll be engaging with the source material itself, not just his commentary.
Ajahn Brahm has spent forty years teaching Western lay audiences who come from non-Buddhist backgrounds, so his teaching style is deliberately clear and welcoming to sincere practitioners at different levels. That said, a 'dedicated practitioners' study group will assume you already have some familiarity with Theravada concepts and a committed meditation practice; this isn't an introductory session.
Public dharma talks are open, inspirational, and designed to introduce Buddhist ideas to broad audiences; a dedicated study group is more intimate, text-focused, and expects regular participants who are working with specific teachings over time. This group format allows for deeper exploration of particular suttas or practice questions that wouldn't fit a large public venue.
Ajahn Brahm was trained directly under Ajahn Chah and maintains the Thai Forest lineage's emphasis on samadhi (deep concentration) as the foundation for insight practice—a distinctive approach that differs from some Western vipassana traditions that prioritize noting technique from the start. His teaching reflects that training, though he has adapted his communication style for English-speaking students over his forty-year teaching career.
