Foot Surgery Ended Her Dancing—Until She Changed Her Mind

Monica was 17 when doctors first told her something was fundamentally wrong. Despite colonoscopies, upper GIs, and visits to multitudes of doctors, they all said she was fine. But her body was telling a different story. Eventually, a holistic doctor diagnosed her with multiple food allergies—a condition she carried for nearly two decades. Along the way, other diagnoses piled up: vertigo from a concussion, hypoglycemia from Mount Everest base camp, injuries that seemed to compound one atop another. By age 35, she had learned to live with the body's apparent betrayals. But nothing prepared her for the verdict that came after her fourth foot surgery.

The injury had been severe—a complete rupture of her ankle that required four surgical interventions. After the final operation in October 2024, her surgeon was unambiguous: the hardware, the cadaver tissue grafted into her posterior tibial, the structural reconstruction—it all meant one thing. She would never run again. She would never dance again. For someone who had completed a marathon and spent 19 years as a ballerina, the prognosis felt like a life sentence.

The Book That Wouldn't Wait

A colleague recommended she read Becoming Supernatural. When the book arrived, Monica saw the tiny print and set it aside. Six months later, boarding a flight to Bali, she picked it up again. Within five pages, something shifted. "Miracle stories," she remembers thinking. "I have to go to this retreat." She didn't finish the book—but she had found her direction. The healing journey had begun, not just for herself, but with her mother in tow when she attended Dr. Joe Dispenza's national retreat in September 2025.

What's significant is what happened during that first retreat. Monica had come focused on her mother's healing, almost forgetting about the foot that doctors had declared beyond repair. But during a walking meditation—the body electric practice—something crystallized inside her. The surgeon's words echoed, but this time she spoke back to them: "The doctors told me I can't dance. That's not the case. I'm going to dance. I'm going to run again."

It was a decision spoken into the quiet. A claim made before any evidence supported it.

Pain-Free in a Dance Studio

A few weeks later, an impulse arrived: go to a dance class. Monica hadn't set foot in a studio for 17 years. Her body, reconstructed with surgical steel and cadaver tissue, carried no rational basis for what she was about to ask of it. She went anyway. What happened next defied the medical logic that had shaped the previous year: she danced without pain. She even danced in high heels. On the one-year anniversary of her final surgery, she ran a 5K without training—pain-free.

When Monica saw her surgeon in November 2025—a specialist who treats majority of professional athletes in Chicago—his reaction was one of confusion bordering on disbelief. "Wait, what are you doing?" he asked. "That's not something you should be able to do with all the screws, the angles. How are you wearing a high heel and dancing in it?" He paused, then delivered his assessment: "You're a miracle. You've healed better than most of my athletes." When she told him she was meditating, he laughed—a surgeon's polite skepticism meeting an outcome he couldn't explain. Yet he asked for permission to share her story with other orthopedic surgeons.

The Moment on the Beach

But the physical healing was only half the story. At the Cancun 10-Day Advanced Retreat in June 2026, Monica attended a coherence healing session. When she placed her hands on her heart, something opened. She saw blue beings—whether literal or metaphorical, the distinction felt irrelevant. Her legs levitated in her seat. Her body shook. And she heard them—or felt them, or knew them—address every unfinished wound: the spine issue from surfing, the facial scar from dance class, the vertigo. And then: "That ice cream sundae thing, all the allergies—you can eat everything. We want you to go get a sundae."

After the meditation ended, Monica went to the cafeteria and made the largest ice cream sundae she could assemble, with chocolate syrup. Those watching probably thought she was experiencing something else entirely—her joy was that visible, that unguarded. That night, she didn't get sick. For the rest of the retreat, she had ice cream once or twice daily, with no consequence. The allergy that had defined her for nearly two decades had simply ended.

But it was a moment alone on the beach where the deepest shift happened. Years of shame, fear, and guilt—accumulated since her father's death when she was nine, intensified by watching her mother work three jobs while money stayed perpetually tight, haunted by the question Am I going to make it in this world?—all of it surfaced and broke open. Monica sobbed. And in that sobbing, something inverted. She realized: "I am perfect as I am. I am worthy of love. I am worthy to be seen. I don't have to change myself and I don't have to be scared anymore of what people think of me because I truly am perfect as I am."

Her body responded with something like levitation—"my whole body was levitating in like jello"—and she fell asleep on the sand. When she woke, she knew: "I'm never the same person again. I'm not afraid of anything anymore. I'm not afraid of who I am and I know I'm so worthy and I'm so loved."

Where to Go From Here

Monica's story doesn't argue that visualization or meditation replaces orthopedic medicine—her surgeries were necessary, her surgeon's skill real. What it suggests is that the body exists within a larger field of belief, identity, and self-concept. The surgical hardware was only half the equation. The other half was releasing the narrative that said she should remain broken, that said she was unworthy of the life she wanted, that said her body's limitations defined her future. When that internal landscape shifted—not through denial, but through genuine recognition of her own worth—the body followed. The dance returned. The running returned. The allergies released. The surgeon saw it and had no framework to explain it except to call it a miracle.

[0:00] The doctors told me I can't dance,

[0:01] that's not the case. I'm going to dance,

[0:03] I'm going to run again, and I was

[0:05] dancing no pain. I even started dancing

[0:08] in high heels with cheers. And then I

[0:11] went and ran a 5K.

[0:14] My story begins when I was 17 years old

[0:18] and I was diagnosed with a multitude of

[0:21] food allergies. I had went to a

[0:23] multitude of doctors, colonoscopies,

[0:25] upper GI's, you name it, and everyone

[0:28] said I'm fine. But my body

[0:32] was saying something else. Eventually I

[0:34] was diagnosed by a holistic doctor with

[0:36] all of these allergies that I carried

[0:39] until now at the age of 35 that I no

[0:42] longer have.

[0:45] Along that journey, there were more

[0:47] things that happened. I had developed

[0:50] vertigo from a concussion. I did Mount

[0:52] Everest base camp and got hypoglycemia.

[0:56] And you could think that what else is

[0:58] going to come along? And then there was

[1:00] a foot injury.

[1:02] I had four surgeries and after the last

[1:05] one in October of 2024, I officially had

[1:09] so much hardware in my foot you would

[1:10] think it's bionic and a cadaver as my

[1:14] posterior tibial cuz I ruptured my whole

[1:16] ankle. And I was told at that time I

[1:18] would never be able to run anymore or

[1:21] dance. And I was a girl who did a

[1:23] marathon. I danced for 19 years, I was a

[1:26] ballerina. How can you tell me I can't

[1:28] dance anymore?

[1:31] At that time when I had this surgery, I

[1:33] was actually recommended the book of Dr.

[1:36] Joe from a colleague, Becoming

[1:38] Supernatural. And I'm not going to lie,

[1:40] when it came, I saw how tiny the print

[1:43] was and I was like, "Mhm, no." And I let

[1:45] it sit on my shelf for about 6 months.

[1:49] And then I picked it up when I was on a

[1:50] plane going to Bali. I had jumped in on

[1:53] this full healing journey because I said

[1:56] that this is not going to be the case

[1:57] for me.

[1:58] When I came back from Bali, I only read

[2:01] five pages into the book and I was like,

[2:03] "Miracle stories, I have to go to this

[2:05] retreat."

[2:08] Then I went to the national one in

[2:09] September of 2025 and I took my mom. And

[2:12] what's really important is I was so

[2:14] focused on trying to heal my mom at this

[2:16] retreat that I kind of forgot about my

[2:19] foot things. But there was a moment at

[2:21] the September retreat when we were doing

[2:23] a walking meditation in the body

[2:24] electric that I just knew. I was like,

[2:27] "No." The doctors told me I can't dance,

[2:29] that's not the case. I'm going to dance,

[2:31] I'm going to run again. And a few weeks

[2:33] later, I got this message to myself

[2:37] feeling like I need to go to a dance

[2:38] class. And I had not been in a studio

[2:40] for 17 years. Went in and I was dancing,

[2:44] no pain. I even started dancing in high

[2:47] heels with chairs. And then, on my

[2:49] one-year anniversary, I went and ran a

[2:51] 5K without even any training, pain-free.

[2:57] So, when I saw my surgeon in November of

[2:59] 2025 at my one-year post-op, which

[3:03] important to note, he is a surgeon who

[3:06] treats majority of the athletes,

[3:08] professional athletes, in Chicago. And

[3:11] when he saw me, he was like, "Wait, what

[3:13] are you doing?

[3:15] That's you shouldn't be able to do that

[3:17] with all the screws, the angles. Like,

[3:19] how are you wearing a high heel and

[3:20] dancing in it?" He's like, "You're a

[3:22] miracle. You've healed better than most

[3:24] of my athletes." And I was like, "He

[3:27] actually asked me, what am I doing?" I'm

[3:28] like, "Oh, I'm meditating." And he

[3:30] >> [laughter]

[3:30] >> was like,

[3:31] "Whatever. Okay, cool. Can I share your

[3:34] story amongst the doctors and orthopedic

[3:37] surgery?" And I was like, "Yeah,

[3:39] absolutely."

[3:41] Now, mind you, this food allergy thing

[3:43] was still clicking around. In the last

[3:45] couple months

[3:47] of 2026, it was getting pretty bad. I

[3:49] was in Ethiopia and I was getting really

[3:52] sick and I was all over and so when I

[3:53] got to this retreat, I

[3:56] everyday was like, you know what? No, I

[3:58] exist well in this retreat, Cancun.

[4:00] That's where I'm at.

[4:02] I don't have these allergies anymore. So

[4:04] now we're in the second coherence

[4:06] healing and I see when we put our hands

[4:09] to our heart, I see a bunch of blue

[4:11] beings come

[4:12] and they start shaking my body. My legs

[4:16] were levitating in the seat and I was

[4:19] shaking side to side and I'm giggling

[4:22] and I keep hearing them be like, oh,

[4:24] that spine thing you have from a surfing

[4:26] thing? Oh, that's fixed. Oh, the split

[4:30] on your face that happened from dance

[4:32] class of girls heels but we've healed

[4:34] that. Then they're like, oh, your

[4:36] vertigo? That's gone, too. And they're

[4:38] like, oh, so that ice cream sundae, all

[4:40] the allergies, you can eat everything.

[4:42] We want you to go get a sundae.

[4:46] So sure enough, after that meditation, I

[4:49] went into the cafeteria at Miramar and I

[4:51] made the biggest ice cream sundae with

[4:54] chocolate syrup and as I ate that, if

[4:57] anyone was watching, I was so in love

[5:00] with my ice cream.

[5:02] People probably thought I was on

[5:03] something cuz I was like,

[5:05] this is so good. And that night, didn't

[5:09] get sick and every day since then on

[5:11] this whole retreat, I've had ice cream

[5:13] not once a day, twice a day.

[5:18] I let go of many things. I had a lot of

[5:21] shame in my life, a lot of fear, a lot

[5:24] of guilt.

[5:25] And when, you know, shame to just be

[5:28] myself, afraid of not being loved or

[5:32] unworthy or being protected. My dad

[5:36] passed when I was nine and my mom being

[5:39] from Poland worked three jobs and

[5:42] you know, money was always really tight

[5:44] and so you thought,

[5:46] I don't know. Like, am I going to make

[5:48] it in this world?

[5:49] There was this moment on the beach that

[5:52] I just started sobbing and realizing I

[5:55] am perfect as I am. I am worthy of love.

[5:59] I am

[6:00] just

[6:02] I'm worthy to be seen. I don't have to

[6:04] change myself and I don't have to be

[6:07] scared anymore of what people think of

[6:09] me

[6:10] because I truly am perfect as I am. And

[6:13] that was the moment of just feeling like

[6:16] everything let go and my body felt this

[6:19] immense amount of peace and

[6:21] looseness that even my body asked to go

[6:26] take a nap on the beach and I felt this

[6:28] sensation

[6:30] of like my whole body was levitating in

[6:33] like jello and the waves are going

[6:37] People were meditating. I did skip a

[6:38] meditation. Sorry, Dr. Joe, but I felt

[6:42] so at peace.

[6:45] And when I stood up and I came out of

[6:47] this nap, I was like oh, I'm never the

[6:50] same person again. I'm not afraid of

[6:52] anything anymore. I'm not afraid of who

[6:53] I am

[6:55] and I know I'm so worthy and I'm so

[6:57] loved.

Monica's case suggests meditation may work alongside medical treatment by shifting the internal narrative around injury and identity. Her surgeon confirmed she healed better than most professional athletes, despite having what should have been limiting surgical hardware. The mechanism appears to involve releasing trauma and fear held in the body, allowing physical recovery to progress beyond typical outcomes.
Monica identified shame, fear, and guilt as blocks she carried for decades—patterns rooted in childhood loss and scarcity. When she resolved these emotional patterns and genuinely internalized that she was worthy and perfect as she was, her body responded with rapid healing and the disappearance of long-standing conditions like food allergies.
Based on Monica's experience, coherence healing appears to be a guided meditation practice where participants place awareness in the heart center. During her session, she experienced vivid imagery and felt her body respond—tremors, levitation—as old wounds and ailments were addressed and released.
Monica returned to a dance studio within a few weeks of her insight at the September 2025 retreat, roughly 11 months after her final surgery in October 2024. She danced pain-free immediately and progressed to high heels and running a 5K within a year.
Monica reported having multiple food allergies for nearly 18 years, which disappeared after a coherence healing meditation at the Cancun retreat. She has since consumed ice cream daily without symptoms, though the biological mechanism remains unexplained from a conventional medical perspective.
Monica credits the retreat experience and meditation practices with shifting her core beliefs about her identity and worthiness. She attended live retreats where she participated in guided meditations and heard stories of spontaneous healing, which reportedly helped her release the doctor's limiting prognosis and step into a new self-concept.
