Qi Gong for Letting Go: Sound, Lungs, and Autumn Metal

Halfway through a Tuesday live class on Zoom, Skip Kelly asks the room to rate its energy from one to ten, and the answers come back mostly high: a handful of tens, a few eights, a seven or two. It is an easy scene to picture, and it sets the tone for Day 3 of Lee Holden's Art of Letting Go Challenge, a free five-day Qi Gong program built around the autumn idea that letting go is less about dumping everything than about refining what stays. In this session, Holden and Kelly unpack the logic behind sound practice, explaining why sounds purge, why colors tonify, and why the lungs, the metal element of Chinese medicine, are tied to grief, courage, and boundaries. They walk through a lung-focused sequence built on the Z sound, tapping points below the collarbone, and arm positions that open the lung meridian. Underneath it all is a teacher's own origin story, a 2006 television segment that its own producers doubted, and a practice that outgrew a garage full of DVDs.

What is the Art of Letting Go Challenge, and what was Day 3 about?

The challenge was built around a seasonal idea. The program's description explains that in Qi Gong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is Metal Season, and that just as nature sheds what it no longer needs, this is the time to release what has built up, strengthen resilience, and make room for what comes next. Across five daily lessons, Holden guided participants through a complete sequence of gentle movement, breath, and focused attention, meant to leave them with a repeatable practice they could return to all season.

The format was accessible by design. Participants could practice standing or seated, from wherever they were, at whatever pace their bodies allowed. The lessons ran from Sunday, October 4 through Thursday, October 8, 2026, with a final live class and celebration on Friday, October 9. Day 3 carried the theme "Refining What Stays," which is the line that governs much of what follows: the practice is not about emptying yourself out, but about sorting what is useful from what has become weight.

How did a 2006 PBS segment become a national Qi Gong movement?

Before the sound work began, Kelly told the origin story to set up the teacher. In his retelling, Holden had DVDs in his garage and a call from PBS came in with a modest request: record a short Qi Gong segment to fill a gap left when someone dropped out, with the plan to feature it in one city in 2006. Kelly described the producers' reaction to the taping as skeptical. In his words, the producers were sure the segment would not work, and they only needed Holden to fill the spot. Holden came in, humble, and did his practice. According to Kelly, it spread so widely that the station moved it from a single city to a national run.

Holden himself added a memorable detail: he was booked between two of the biggest names on public television. He said he was "sandwiched between Wayne Dyer and Yanni on the PBS show," and the room laughed about how the producers had first treated the segment as a long shot.

The logistics of that moment are the part most worth sitting with. Kelly pointed out that Holden had no real business infrastructure: no website, and a personal home phone number serving as the only public contact. Holden recalled what those calls were like:

"I was talking to everybody about all their problems, and uh, like, you know, grandma was on the phone and dad and the kids, and then I was sending DVDs out of the garage. It was good times."

— Lee Holden, Day 3 live class, 12:56

Kelly tied that history back to the present. Twenty years later, the same teacher was leading a live Zoom class, and a few longtime viewers were in the room. That arc, from a garage and a post office line to a global livestream, is a useful reminder that the practice's staying power did not come from a polished launch. It came from people who felt something after doing it.

Why do sounds purge and colors tonify?

The central teaching of the class is one line Holden delivered in passing, and it is worth quoting in full:

"Sounds purge, and colors tonify. I don't know if you know that."

— Lee Holden, Day 3 live class, 10:48 (paraphrased context from the membership class discussion)

He framed sound as vibration, and vibration as the way qi is expressed and moved. In Chinese medicine, the term purging means clearing out the old. Sound, in this model, does the clearing. Color, by contrast, is used to nourish or build energy. Holden described using both strategically to move and cultivate energy.

Kelly then offered a neat way to hold the pair, and Holden agreed. Kelly asked whether sounds could be understood as the letting go while colors represent the allowing in. Holden answered: "Yes. Exactly." That exchange is the practical hinge of the whole challenge. You breathe out with sound to release. You take in with visualization to receive. The two halves of the breath, in other words, carry the two halves of the theme.

Kelly also ran a small experiment on the live audience. He asked participants to notice their body before the sound: toes, feet, fingers, and the overall sense of aliveness. Then Holden guided the sound, and the room was invited to check in again. The point was not to produce a dramatic result. It was to teach people to notice the difference a single sound makes, because Qi Gong is best learned by feeling, not by taking someone's word for it.

What is the difference between vocalized and whisper sounds?

Holden explained that sound can be practiced on two levels, and this is where the method becomes specific. The vocalized sound, such as the Z sound used in the previous day's class, is, in his description, "a little bit more for the physical body." The whisper sound works more with the emotional body.

The logic rests on a claim from Chinese medicine that each organ holds certain emotions. Holden put it plainly: "each organ will hold different emotions." When you sound for a particular organ, you are helping to clear emotional energy that has stayed with you. For the lungs, he said, whisper sounds clear out what he named as sadness, grief, and depression, and turn them into inspiration and courage. The vocalized version works on the lungs themselves, aiming to cleanse them and make the organ healthier.

That layering is why the challenge repeated the lung sound across several levels and layers, rather than doing it once. Holden's approach is cumulative: the physical sound and the emotional sound are two passes at the same organ, and the second pass is where the emotional release is meant to happen.

Why does the lung's metal element matter for letting go?

Holden tied the lungs to the metal element, and then to a quality of metal he found useful for the season. "Metal has a discerning quality to it," he said. "Like a metal can draw a line in the sand." In this framing, the lungs are involved with discernment and clear boundaries, which fits the challenge's focus on refining what stays. Letting go, read this way, is not indiscriminate. It draws a line between what you keep and what you release.

That is also why the lung work sits at the heart of an autumn program. Metal Season, as the challenge materials describe it, is about shedding what has accumulated. Holden's lung teaching gives the shedding a structure: breathe, sound, and set a boundary.

How is the Z sound practiced, and what do the lung points do?

The physical sequence began with a tapping motion. Holden asked participants to tap on the chest and wake up the lung energy, then move to the lung points, which he described as sitting right below the collarbone. He added a claim about these points that is his own teaching, not a medical assertion: "These are the points for the immune system. Great for the immune system." Participants were guided to tap one side, take a deep breath, and then switch sides.

Holden then had participants lift their arms overhead, a position he said opens the lung meridian, and made the Z sound. The instruction was simple: take a big, deep breath and make the sound. Movement and sound were paired so that the body was open while the breath moved out. Holden repeatedly prompted slow, soft movement, and reminded people to let the shoulders relax further, describing the work as a yin-leaning practice.

For a beginner, the practical takeaway is that the Z sound is paired with a breath, an open chest, and a slow, relaxed body. Nothing requires forcing the sound. The aim is to release, not to strain.

How did the closing practice bring the day together?

Near the end of the session, Holden shifted into a quieter practice. He asked participants to close their eyes, enjoy the moment, and breathe in softly, noticing what they felt. The shift from sound to stillness mirrors the theme of the entire challenge: release through vocal and physical movement, then rest in the space that remains. The closing was not a conclusion to be memorized. It was a way of showing participants where they could return.

Where to go from here

If you are working with this material on your own, start with one piece. Try the progression that Holden and Kelly modeled: notice how your body feels, practice one Z sound with a deep breath and arms overhead, then check in again. Pay attention to the difference rather than chasing a particular result. If you are interested in the seasonal framing, read Metal Season in Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside the challenge's own description of autumn as a time to release what has built up.

For the full sequence, the challenge's five lessons and its live Zoom classes were the designed container, and the program notes indicated replays would be available for participants. Holden's teaching is strongest when it is practiced regularly rather than studied once. The question the challenge leaves you with is the same one it began with: what, after the shedding, is worth keeping?

[6:19] Aloha everyone. Happy Tuesday. Hope

[6:22] everyone is having an amazing day so

[6:24] far. Welcome to day three of the Chi

[6:27] Challenge. I'm so glad you guys could

[6:28] join us. If you are new here, I'm going

[6:31] to introduce uh a friend of mine who

[6:33] will be co-hosting with Lee. If this is

[6:36] your third day here or you were here

[6:38] yesterday, uh you've met him already.

[6:40] So, allow me to reintroduce uh a good

[6:43] friend of mine. Uh he'll be joining Lee

[6:45] today to co-host the Chi Challenge and

[6:47] his name is Skip Kelly. Skip comes from

[6:50] a background as a corrective exercise

[6:52] specialist for Olympic and professional

[6:54] athletes. Then he hosted live healing uh

[6:57] movement events around the world. And

[6:59] now he's here with one goal. That goal

[7:02] is to help each of us get the most out

[7:04] of Holden Chiang's practices so that

[7:06] this challenge actually becomes a part

[7:08] of our daily lives. So without further

[7:10] ado, ladies and gentlemen, please join

[7:12] me in giving a warm welcome to Skip

[7:14] Kelly.

[7:17] Hello. Hello. What's going on everybody?

[7:19] So good to see you again. Here we are on

[7:21] day three of the chi challenge. Just by

[7:24] show of fingers, what level of

[7:26] improvement is everyone feeling so far?

[7:28] I know some of you probably attended the

[7:30] membership class last night for those of

[7:32] you that are either in the membership or

[7:33] in VIP, but just scale of 1 to 10, where

[7:36] are you at right now? Yeah, I see some

[7:38] tens in the room. I see an eight coming

[7:41] in from Mariana. Georgia's Oh, jazz

[7:44] hands over there from Georgia. That's

[7:46] super fun. Awesome. So, good to see

[7:48] everybody again here on day three. So,

[7:50] today's theme is all about refining what

[7:53] stays. And in just a moment, I'm going

[7:55] to bring up our master of ceremonies,

[7:57] Lee Holden. and he was telling me this

[7:59] amazing story about how he got started

[8:02] teaching Chiong. So he had DVDs in his

[8:05] garage in his apartment at the time and

[8:07] he got a call from PBS and anyone would

[8:10] be super excited and they just wanted to

[8:12] record a little Chiong thing to just

[8:14] fill a gap that they had someone drop

[8:16] out of and they were going to feature it

[8:18] in just one city in 2006. And so Lee

[8:21] came into the studio, he filmed the

[8:23] thing. The producers like this is never

[8:24] going to work. this is just so lame and

[8:27] it's not gonna be cool and we have all

[8:29] these other things that are great, but

[8:30] we really just need you to fill this

[8:31] spot. And so Lee came in super humble,

[8:34] did his little chi practice and it went

[8:37] bananas. It went so viral that they took

[8:40] it from one city and they said, "We're

[8:41] going to put it around the nation." Now,

[8:43] I want you to understand something about

[8:45] Lee and where he was at the time. He had

[8:48] no business. He had no website. people

[8:51] were calling his personal home phone

[8:55] because that's all he had to give out.

[8:57] So here he is like going to the post

[8:59] office trying to ship DVDs to people,

[9:01] taking phone calls for and I do this

[9:04] because that's what it looked like back

[9:05] in the day. Right now it's this. But he

[9:08] was literally taking personal home phone

[9:10] calls as thisqi movement started to grow

[9:13] all the way back in 2006. And so here we

[9:16] are 20 years later with Lee Holden being

[9:19] able to teach live on Zoom. Um I wonder

[9:21] if anyone here just out of curiosity,

[9:24] anyone here one of those people 2006

[9:26] 2007 Lee fans. Oh my gosh, there are a

[9:30] few in the room. Wow, that's that is so

[9:34] incredible. We're so grateful to have

[9:35] you along in this whole journey. So, to

[9:38] get started with today's chi challenge,

[9:39] let's bring up the master Lee Holden

[9:41] onto the screen so that we can preview a

[9:44] couple of moves that are coming up for

[9:46] the day, which are really, really cool.

[9:48] Do you want to get us kicked off?

[9:49] >> Yeah, that was such a fun story. I was

[9:51] sandwiched between Wayne Dyer and Yanni

[9:54] on the PBS show.

[9:55] >> Wow.

[9:55] >> So, that's why she was like, "Oh, you're

[9:57] never gonna Wayne Dyer is Mr. PBS. This

[9:59] is never get She kept going, Chiong.

[10:01] What is it?" She's reading the paper

[10:02] like, "I can't even say this. Sorry.

[10:05] It's not going to work. Nobody outpes

[10:07] Wayne Dyer. And then afterwards, she's

[10:09] like, "This is this these numbers got to

[10:10] be wrong."

[10:12] >> So, it was really funny. Yeah. Amazing.

[10:13] Yeah.

[10:14] >> Yeah. I was talking when they when

[10:15] people would call me, I was talking to

[10:16] everybody about all their problems

[10:19] >> and uh like, you know, grandma was on

[10:22] the phone and dad and the kids and then

[10:23] I was sending DVDs out of the garage. It

[10:25] was It was It was good times. Good

[10:27] times. Yeah. That's awesome. So fun.

[10:29] >> So, for today's theme, we're going into

[10:31] this refining what stays. We're on day

[10:32] three of the chi challenge. People are

[10:34] really feeling the good energy. I saw a

[10:36] lot of tens, few sevens, few eights,

[10:39] >> but there's a few different moves today

[10:41] that we were going through that I think

[10:42] it'd be good to review ahead of time.

[10:44] One in particular is this like spiraling

[10:46] tiger motion. And the other one is, and

[10:48] for anyone that was in the membership

[10:49] class last night, which is always

[10:51] Monday, Wednesday, Friday, by the way,

[10:53] for those of you that are in the

[10:54] membership or have gotten the VIP and

[10:56] you want to join us tomorrow,

[10:57] >> you were doing sounds. So, can you break

[11:00] down why you use sound as part of the

[11:02] practice?

[11:02] >> Right. Right. You know, sounds are

[11:04] healing. So sound is a vibration and

[11:07] when we're talking aboutqi we're talking

[11:09] about vibrations good vibes and this

[11:13] theme of this challenge letting go and

[11:16] healing sounds are all about clearing

[11:19] and a term in Chinese medicine is called

[11:21] purging

[11:22] >> to purge out the old. So when you make a

[11:24] sound whether

[11:25] >> s orz

[11:27] it's a releasing now I don't know about

[11:30] you but sounds purge and colors tonify.

[11:34] I don't know if you know that

[11:36] >> sounds are clearing and when you

[11:38] visualize colors we call that tonifying.

[11:41] So we use sound and colors strategically

[11:43] to move and cultivate energy.

[11:45] >> So would you say that sounds are the

[11:48] letting go and the colors are the

[11:50] allowing in?

[11:51] >> Yes. Exactly.

[11:52] >> Wow. Look at that everybody. I'm really

[11:54] curious today. This is amazing. So let's

[11:56] do this real quick as an experiment. So,

[11:58] everyone that's getting ready for Chi

[12:00] Challenge day three, notice what you

[12:02] feel in your body right now. And then

[12:04] let's have Lee guide us through a really

[12:06] quick sound experiment to see how we

[12:08] feel before and after we do just this

[12:10] one sound that we're going to do in the

[12:12] full program today. So, let's tune in

[12:14] like how does your body feel just right

[12:16] now? What's the amount of chi? What's

[12:18] the aliveness in it? What can you feel

[12:21] like your toes, your feet, your fingers?

[12:23] And then what's the sound from today?

[12:24] And kind of guide us through that. And

[12:25] then let's recheck in.

[12:26] >> Yeah, today. So [clears throat] we we

[12:28] can do sounds on different levels. So

[12:30] yesterday in class we did a a Z sound.

[12:33] We call that a vocalized sound. It's a

[12:35] little bit more for the physical body.

[12:37] And then the whisper sound is a little

[12:39] more for the emotional body. So when we

[12:42] doing whisper sounds, for example, the

[12:44] lungs, we're clearing out or purging

[12:47] sadness, grief, and depression to turn

[12:49] it into inspiration and courage. And

[12:52] when we're doing the vocalized sound,

[12:54] we're trying to get cleanse the lungs

[12:56] >> and make the lungs themselves healthier.

[12:58] So each organ will hold different

[13:01] emotions.

[13:02] >> And so when you do sounds for the

[13:04] different organs, you're helping to

[13:05] purge or clear old emotional energy

[13:08] that's sort of stuck or stayed with us.

[13:10] So that's why we're doing it through

[13:12] this challenge. We're doing it with the

[13:13] lung sound on various different levels

[13:16] and layers. Let's just tap a little bit

[13:18] on the chest and wake up the lung

[13:19] energy.

[13:22] And come over to those lung points.

[13:23] Remember those? Right below the collar

[13:25] bone.

[13:29] Yeah. And I don't know if I told you

[13:31] guys this, but these are the points for

[13:33] the immune system. Great for the immune

[13:35] system. So when you're knocking on these

[13:36] lung points, take a nice deep breath.

[13:40] And then the other side. Let's give our

[13:42] immune system a little boost.

[13:46] Now the lungs are the metal element. So

[13:48] metal has a discerning quality to it.

[13:51] Like a metal can draw a line in the

[13:53] sand. So it's helping with good clear

[13:56] boundaries as well. Now take your arms

[13:58] up over your head. This position opens

[14:01] the lung meridian. And let's try the Z

[14:03] sound. Just take a big deep breath and

[14:04] make the Z sound. Go.

[14:10] And feel that vibration [clears throat]

[14:11] in your chest.

[14:14] Now come down.

[14:16] And then visualize, just hold your hands

[14:18] right over your chest and visualize

[14:20] bright white light in your lungs. Now

[14:22] there's the color. We're infusing the

[14:24] lungs with healing energy.

[14:27] And when we make the sound, we're

[14:28] dumping out or clearing out the old

[14:31] energy.

[14:32] The next sound we'll do is an S sound.

[14:34] This is a little more for the emotions

[14:36] that are stored in the lungs.

[14:39] I know we said emotions stored in the

[14:41] lungs, sadness, depression. So, let's

[14:45] lift and make it just a s a whisper

[14:48] sound. Go. S.

[14:57] Very good. And come back. And then bring

[15:00] in healing energy, bright white light in

[15:04] your lungs.

[15:06] Take a slow deep breath.

[15:10] and the positive emotion of the lungs.

[15:13] Inspiration

[15:15] to breathe in the spirit in spirit.

[15:18] Breathe in this invisible life force

[15:20] energy. Hands to your sides. Notice how

[15:24] you feel now.

[15:27] Maybe notice that the mind is calmer.

[15:30] There's a little tingling in the

[15:31] fingers.

[15:35] And that didn't even take very long, did

[15:36] it?

[15:37] >> Wow, that's amazing. Yeah. How does that

[15:39] feel, everybody?

[15:41] just curiosity. Yeah, I see a lot of

[15:43] double thumbs up. Amazing. Amazing. If

[15:45] anyone had any like incredible moments,

[15:47] definitely put it in the Zoom chat. Uh

[15:49] we'd love to see that. There's so many

[15:51] beautiful things that we've been reading

[15:52] from people taking their kids to come

[15:54] and do these chi challenges with us.

[15:56] >> How wonderful.

[15:57] >> Yeah, absolutely. I I actually read one

[15:59] story, I believe it was from Andrea or

[16:00] Andrea, where she brought her

[16:02] 20-year-old, who's in college right now,

[16:04] who's pretty stressed out about things,

[16:05] >> and her 20-year-old is like, "I don't

[16:07] really know about this," you know, but

[16:09] then did the chi challenge and by the

[16:11] end of it was like, "Wow, I feel way

[16:12] calmer. I feel so much better." And that

[16:14] was what we were talking about on day

[16:15] one where the body is really going to

[16:17] lead the mind. Yeah.

[16:19] >> And so, what's so beautiful about the

[16:20] physical movement practice of this is no

[16:22] matter where your mind is at, it will

[16:25] follow the body. And so if you can just

[16:27] do these things with the body knowing

[16:28] that you're going to feel different on

[16:29] the other end of it, you just start the

[16:32] practice and at some point you're like,

[16:34] "Oh, okay. I feel just way better now."

[16:37] Because the body is calmer. The chi is

[16:39] alive.

[16:39] >> Yeah. Yeah. We always say that the body

[16:41] is always in the moment. But the mind

[16:43] rarely is. The mind can conjure up

[16:45] worries from the past and project into

[16:48] the future, worries about the future,

[16:50] and then bring it into our moment. But

[16:52] your body is always in the present

[16:53] moment. So if you're paying attention to

[16:56] your body, you will be present. Like if

[16:58] you take a deep breath and just follow

[17:00] the breath in

[17:02] and follow the breath out, where were

[17:05] your worries? Where were your concerns?

[17:07] You became present. You just did a slow

[17:10] neutralizing of that. And so that's

[17:12] what's so wonderful about doing these

[17:14] breathing practices and an embodied

[17:16] practice. It is the best psychology that

[17:18] I have found.

[17:19] >> Incredible. There's one more movement

[17:21] today that I know is relatively complex

[17:23] that I want you to break down for

[17:24] everybody because it's the tiger one.

[17:25] >> Yeah.

[17:26] >> So, can you show us what that is about

[17:28] today?

[17:28] >> Yeah. Some of these guys know about the

[17:30] tiger. There's a a tiger style of chiang

[17:34] and the tiger is really representative

[17:36] of the lungs. Okay.

[17:37] >> And so, it's really um it's really

[17:40] important when we're talking about the

[17:42] season of fall to do some tiger

[17:43] movements because it's so powerful. And

[17:46] one one we're going to do today,

[17:48] enlightened [snorts]

[17:48] tiger. What is the enlightened tiger?

[17:50] Well, it's the tiger that's more

[17:52] present. And so the first part of this

[17:54] movement, we're clearing. So we have

[17:55] these tiger claws that represents power.

[17:58] So you curl your fingers and make sure

[18:00] you get all the energy to your fingers

[18:02] when you're doing these. So tiger claw.

[18:05] The forward arm represents worries about

[18:07] the future. The back arm represents

[18:10] concerns about the past. And we're

[18:13] clearing those out. That's the first

[18:14] part of the movement. We come up and

[18:17] we're breathing strong. It's called

[18:19] tiger breath. So you inhale.

[18:23] Can you hear that? It's kind of the back

[18:25] of the throat. Tiger breath. And it's a

[18:28] way to refine and bring your courage

[18:30] forward because the tiger also

[18:33] represents courage. And so as we clear

[18:37] concerns, worries about the future, old

[18:39] energy from the past, then we're going

[18:41] to soften. Now really soften your

[18:43] fingers just like you're caressing the

[18:45] air. Now the enlightened tiger has a

[18:47] different relationship to the past and

[18:49] to the future. To the future we're tuned

[18:52] into what we're inspired about and that

[18:55] back arm now representing what we're

[18:57] grateful for. So it's a very soft ending

[19:01] part of the movement. So just pay

[19:03] attention to the difference. Even though

[19:05] the movement looks the same, it's very

[19:08] different in this soft caressing of the

[19:11] air at the end where we're feeling more

[19:14] present and lined up to the beginning

[19:17] part of that movement when we're

[19:19] clearing and cleansing.

[19:21] That feels good already. Wow. So,

[19:23] there's two things Lee said there that I

[19:25] want to highlight as we get into the

[19:26] practice for today. One of them is you

[19:28] guys are always seeing as he's breathing

[19:30] in, he's actually elevating and

[19:33] extending his legs on on pretty much

[19:35] every movement. And then the second one

[19:37] is he is crouching down. And that always

[19:40] follows with the breath. So there's the

[19:42] breathe in the breathe out

[19:43] >> in the part where it's the claw. You

[19:45] guys couldn't hear it, but I I can cuz

[19:47] I'm next to him. When he's breathing

[19:48] out, he's doing it through his nose, but

[19:51] it's almost like a low growl. So I'm

[19:53] going to I'm going to try to do it

[19:54] really Yeah.

[19:57] Like kind of almost like a light cough

[20:00] is the feeling of it. Like a tiger

[20:02] growl. Like a really gentle one.

[20:04] >> Yeah. You know,

[20:04] >> like a purr.

[20:05] >> Like a purr. Like a purr. Exactly. Yeah.

[20:08] >> But if a tiger purr, it's it's it it's

[20:10] kind of fierce.

[20:11] >> Yes. Yes.

[20:12] >> So, you know, those being probably uh

[20:14] the focus when you get there. Now, the

[20:16] second part of it is there's the

[20:18] physical stuff that he's doing. There's

[20:20] also this emotional focus. So, I would

[20:22] encourage you for whatever feels right

[20:23] for you. if you want to focus on the

[20:25] physical,

[20:25] >> but if you want to focus on the

[20:27] emotional, that's a whole separate part

[20:29] where you're talking about the front and

[20:30] the back.

[20:31] >> Yeah.

[20:31] >> You know, exactly.

[20:32] >> And thinking about the emotions during

[20:34] the practice, which I would encourage

[20:36] you to probably focus on one for today

[20:38] because it's a lot of things to think

[20:39] about simultaneously.

[20:40] >> So, whatever feels right for you.

[20:42] >> Yeah.

[20:42] >> Anything you want to leave them with

[20:43] before we get into the practice today,

[20:45] >> right? No, I think continuing to think

[20:47] of letting go, but we're also thinking

[20:50] about when we let go, what else do we

[20:52] want to bring in? And so when we're

[20:55] we're just like the tiger, we're

[20:57] releasing concerns, worries, heavy

[21:00] energy. You could just think of it as

[21:01] heavy energy. But now, what do we want

[21:04] to bring in? So, we're going to start to

[21:05] shift a little bit like what do I want

[21:07] to line up to? What do I want to bring

[21:08] in? We talked about healing energy. We

[21:11] talked about inspiration. We talked

[21:12] about courage. The courage to be

[21:14] ourselves and stay strong in the present

[21:18] moment is a really nice theme with these

[21:20] tiger exercises.

[21:21] >> Beautiful. And so if we were to set an

[21:23] intention for today,

[21:26] you want to give them a moment to just

[21:27] think into that and really like embody

[21:29] that for the practice.

[21:30] >> Yeah. For me, and you guys can line up

[21:32] with this, but the intention today is to

[21:36] line up to what's inspiring you. And

[21:39] just think about when you're noticing

[21:41] what's inspiring. That's a future

[21:43] orientation. What am I inspired about?

[21:46] Your present moment energy shifts and

[21:48] changes. And so from our present moment,

[21:51] we always have a relationship towards

[21:53] our future. And when we line up to our

[21:56] inspirations, there's an elevation of

[21:59] our energy. So the theme today,

[22:02] inspiration.

[22:03] >> Beautiful. Beautiful. Enjoy the practice

[22:06] today everybody. I'm very excited for

[22:07] you. We'll see you in a little bit.

[22:17] >> [music]

[22:26] >> Welcome to day three of the chi

[22:28] challenge. How are you feeling? Check in

[22:30] with yourself. One hand on the belly,

[22:32] one hand on the chest. Let's take some

[22:35] nice slow deep breaths.

[22:39] Do a little wave breathing. Start your

[22:41] breath in your center. Let the breath

[22:43] rise up through the ribs

[22:46] all the way up to the chest. And then

[22:48] exhale. Chest relaxes. Ribs relax. Belly

[22:52] relaxes.

[22:54] Nice slow deep breathing. Inhale. Belly.

[22:57] Ribs. Chest.

[23:01] Exhale. Chest.

[23:04] Ribs. Belly. Wave breathing will help to

[23:08] reset the nervous system. Creates that

[23:10] inner balance, that equilibrium that

[23:12] we're all looking for. The breath is

[23:14] key.

[23:20] Wonderful.

[23:21] All right, let's do Buddha holds up the

[23:24] earth. We're going to stay with that

[23:26] wave breathing as we put some movement

[23:28] to it. And we're going to inhale, just

[23:30] draw the hands up over the head.

[23:33] The lung meridian goes to the thumb. So

[23:35] we extend through the lung meridian to

[23:37] open that pathway to open that channel.

[23:40] Exhale down.

[23:52] Good. And inhale. Full deep breath.

[23:54] Inhale up.

[23:56] And then pull the elbows back. Stretch

[23:58] through the thumb. And then exhale.

[24:03] Nice and slow. and see if you can exhale

[24:05] a little bit more at the bottom of your

[24:07] exhale and then inhale.

[24:12] Good. Find the top of the inhale. Open

[24:14] the body a little bit more. Try to

[24:16] breathe a little bit deeper. And then

[24:18] exhale.

[24:20] Exhale is about letting go. Letting go

[24:23] of the past. Keep exhaling all the way

[24:26] out. And when you exhale all the way

[24:28] out, you can take a full deep breath in.

[24:36] Exhale all the way out. Letting go of

[24:39] the past. Letting go of heavy energy.

[24:42] Release.

[24:49] Now leave your left hand up. I'll do

[24:51] your mirror image. Leave your left hand

[24:53] up, your right hand down, and stretch.

[24:55] Let's open the sides of the body. Very

[24:58] good for the lungs because we're

[25:00] stretching the intercostal muscles. Now

[25:02] bend your knees. The pinky fingers face

[25:05] towards you. So we get a little spiral.

[25:07] And then press the palms away from each

[25:09] other. Inhale. Open up the side body.

[25:13] When you stretch the intercostals, you

[25:15] can breathe deeper. Bend the knees.

[25:17] Pinky fingers face towards you. And now

[25:20] inhale.

[25:22] Feel that stretch through the ribs.

[25:25] Exhale. [sighs]

[25:29] And a deep breath.

[25:33] Good. Exhale. Coming down and stretch

[25:37] the ribs. Deep breath.

[25:45] Good. We're spiraling the body and

[25:47] spiraling movements open up the natural

[25:50] flow of energy. If you notice these

[25:52] beautiful trees around me, all the

[25:54] branches, the roots, the trunk of the

[25:57] tree, there's a spiral. Nothing in

[26:00] nature moves in just a straight line.

[26:02] Everything spirals. And so here we're

[26:04] spiraling our bodies to open this

[26:07] natural pathway and flow of energy.

[26:11] Deep breath.

[26:13] Exhale.

[26:15] And a deep breath.

[26:20] Coming down. And let's relax. Bend your

[26:24] knees. Let's turn from the hips and the

[26:25] waist. Let's knock on the door of life.

[26:27] Let's wake up some energy in the body.

[26:30] Very good. Keep your spine nice and

[26:32] long. Feel the top of your head lifted.

[26:34] Lifted up towards the sky.

[26:37] Activating those key pressure points for

[26:40] energy, health, and longevity.

[26:46] Good. And come up over the shoulder.

[26:50] And let's just clear a little tension,

[26:52] tightness out of the upper back and

[26:54] neck.

[26:57] right there at the top of the shoulder.

[26:59] That's the top of the lungs. So, you

[27:02] open up even that lung energy by

[27:05] releasing tension out of the upper back

[27:07] and neck.

[27:13] Good. And come back down right there to

[27:15] your chest, just below the collar bone.

[27:17] Let's not forget about our lung points.

[27:19] Take a deep breath here.

[27:26] In this practice, we're going to

[27:28] activate your life force energy. It's a

[27:30] principle in Chiang called activating

[27:33] the chi. And when there's more chi

[27:35] activated, it's more readily available

[27:38] to circulate and flow

[27:41] back down to the lower back and rib

[27:44] cage.

[27:48] And then just slow it down. Let's do a

[27:50] little mindfulness practice. Let's just

[27:52] do water waves where we're feeling

[27:55] the air move through the fingers.

[27:58] There's something very healing about

[27:59] water. It washes away old energy.

[28:03] When we want to cleanse, clear, and let

[28:06] go, water energy is a wonderful way to

[28:10] release. Imagine your fingers just

[28:12] gliding through water.

[28:29] And just allow this movement to wash

[28:31] away any mental stress, any heavy

[28:33] energy,

[28:35] anything weighing heavy in your heart.

[28:37] Let it wash away very gently.

[28:42] Take a deep breath and just come back to

[28:44] the moment. The moment is always here

[28:47] for you. Come back to the moment. Feel

[28:50] your feet on the ground. Feel the

[28:52] movement through your shoulders, your

[28:55] hips,

[28:56] your lower spine.

[29:07] Take a deep breath. Feel the air move

[29:10] through the fingers. When you sense and

[29:13] feel your body, your mind is present.

[29:19] And then slow it down.

[29:22] Slow it down.

[29:24] Ah, and relax. Just check in with

[29:26] yourself. Notice how the energy is

[29:28] becoming activated and more well

[29:32] balanced.

[29:35] Very nice. Let's do a little clearing, a

[29:38] little opening and awakening for the

[29:40] lung energy. This is going to be a

[29:42] version of the pump that's going to

[29:44] awaken the energy in the lungs. And if

[29:48] you remember, the lungs are all about

[29:50] letting go. I don't know if you know

[29:51] this, but most of the detoxification in

[29:54] your body happens through the lungs,

[29:56] happens through that exhale. So, we want

[29:58] to keep that pathway open. In this

[30:00] exercise, you're going to bend the knees

[30:01] here, then straighten the legs. One arm

[30:04] is up, one arm is back. Bend,

[30:07] straighten, one arm up, one arm back.

[30:10] Open that lung meridian,

[30:12] pump the energy through the lungs, and

[30:14] then we're going to go just a little bit

[30:16] quicker, maybe a little deeper in that

[30:18] knee bend, and really warm up the

[30:20] energy, open the lungs, lung meridian.

[30:24] Very good for the shoulders, upper back,

[30:26] and neck.

[30:29] These kinds of exercises, we call them

[30:31] invigorating. Invigorate the chi,

[30:34] improve circulation,

[30:36] and just breathe naturally. pump the

[30:39] energy through the body.

[30:44] Might feel yourself starting to warm up

[30:47] a little bit.

[30:51] Who says chiong is not a good exercise?

[30:54] This is all about cardiovascular

[30:56] fitness. Keep going. You're going to

[30:59] feel that heart rate increase.

[31:05] Couple more. You guys got this. pump

[31:07] that energy through the body

[31:16] and then let's just slow it down. Slow

[31:19] it down

[31:21] and relax. Wonderful. Shake it out.

[31:25] Shake out the arms. Shake out your

[31:27] shoulders.

[31:29] And then just start to bounce into the

[31:32] legs. Bounce into the legs.

[31:36] Ah, [sighs]

[31:39] you know, there's a healing sound for

[31:41] the lungs, and there's a few versions of

[31:43] this. Let's do a little lung healing

[31:45] sounds as we're shaking to detoxify the

[31:48] lungs and continue opening that pathway

[31:51] so we can let go of old energy more

[31:54] effortlessly. The sound is s, just a s.

[31:58] So, you're going to inhale

[32:00] and then exhale with that healing sound.

[32:08] And that sound helps to clear residual

[32:11] sadness, grief, or depression,

[32:14] transforming it into inspiration and

[32:16] courage. Let's do it again.

[32:27] One more time. Big deep breath. Really

[32:30] shake out the wrists, the arms.

[32:41] Ah, just gradually slow it down.

[32:46] [sighs]

[32:47] Now check in with yourself after those

[32:49] few exercises. Can you feel your energy?

[32:53] The sensation of chi tingling, buzzing

[32:57] like this inner electricity is moving

[33:00] through your body. Can you feel it

[33:02] moving down your arms to your hands to

[33:04] your fingertips?

[33:06] This is a great sign that your meridians

[33:09] are more open. Take a slow, deep breath.

[33:20] Wonderful. Let's get into an exercise

[33:22] called enlightened tiger. The

[33:25] enlightened tiger is the tiger that's

[33:28] present in the moment and is able to

[33:30] clear away the worries about the future

[33:34] and the heavy energy of the past. So,

[33:35] we're going to get our tiger claws out.

[33:38] Right. We're going to come up like this.

[33:41] Curl your fingers and then one arm goes

[33:43] forward, the other arm goes behind you.

[33:46] Like that. Very good. Inhale. Coming up

[33:49] right through the midline, right to the

[33:50] chest. Here's where the lungs and the

[33:52] heart are. And then we come here. One

[33:54] arm forward, the other behind. Now the

[33:58] forward arm represents the future and

[34:01] the back arm represents the past and the

[34:04] tiger claw represents courage, strength

[34:07] and power. So can you clear away heavy

[34:11] energy from the past? Transform it.

[34:15] Let go of heavy energy of the past.

[34:19] And then the forward arm, let go of the

[34:22] worries about the future.

[34:24] Because both the past and the future

[34:27] exist in your mind

[34:30] and are more like a dream.

[34:33] So we come here, come to the heart

[34:34] center, clear away.

[34:38] The mind tends to focus on the negative.

[34:41] And that's what this tiger is clearing

[34:43] out. Clear out. Let go of that

[34:47] unnecessary energy.

[34:51] Inhale up.

[34:53] Exhale. [sighs]

[34:58] Good. Letting go of heavy energy. Energy

[35:03] that weighs heavy on the mind or heavy

[35:05] in the heart. Release.

[35:10] Like these beautiful trees. Every fall

[35:13] they let go of the leaves [snorts] so

[35:15] that new growth can happen. You let go

[35:18] of old energy from the past.

[35:21] Worries about the future. or let new

[35:23] energy emerge in your mind and your

[35:26] body.

[35:28] Inhale.

[35:42] [snorts]

[35:46] Very nice. Now, let's just stretch.

[35:48] Let's stretch upper back and neck. Now,

[35:50] you're going to open the hands. Spread

[35:52] the fingers and press the palms away

[35:54] from each other. Go ahead and turn and

[35:57] look at that back hand. Opening upper

[35:59] back and neck. Stretch it out.

[36:04] Turn back. Look at the forward hand.

[36:08] And then drop down. And then come up.

[36:13] Same thing. Press through the hands.

[36:16] Pushing past our limitations. Stretch.

[36:18] Stretch all those meridians in the arms.

[36:20] Lung meridian goes to the thumb. Feel

[36:22] that

[36:24] turn. Look at the back hand.

[36:31] Turn back to the front. Look at the

[36:33] front hand.

[36:36] And then drop down. And here we go.

[36:39] Enlightened tiger now is emerging. The

[36:42] hands are now very soft.

[36:46] The tiger claws have released. No longer

[36:49] are we in that protection survival mode.

[36:53] We're in relaxation,

[36:56] inner peace, enlightened mode. So when

[37:00] the heaviness of the past and the

[37:02] worries of the future become lighter,

[37:05] the mind becomes lighter.

[37:09] Enlighten your mind by staying present.

[37:11] Feel the softness of the air move

[37:13] through the fingers,

[37:16] caressing the air, gathering chi.

[37:23] Nice and soft. Inhale. We come up.

[37:28] Exhale down.

[37:33] Deep breath up.

[37:37] Exhale. Very soft movement through the

[37:40] air. Inhale.

[37:45] Exhale.

[37:51] Can you go a little bit slower? When you

[37:53] slow down, you increase energy. Inhale

[37:57] right there to the chest. Lungs open.

[38:00] Soft movement. Exhaling the arms in

[38:03] front and in back.

[38:24] Good. Last one. Float the arms through

[38:28] space. Gather chi. Now let's feel a chi

[38:31] ball. Let's just go like this. Feel how

[38:33] much energy is in your hands.

[38:36] You are waking up your mind, your

[38:38] consciousness

[38:40] to the very real fact that you are

[38:42] energy and that when energy flows and

[38:44] circulates, you feel better. better in

[38:47] your mind, your emotions, and your body.

[38:51] Now, just hold the palms face up. Let's

[38:53] take a little of that healing energy.

[38:55] Bring them right over the chest. Send

[38:58] healing energy to your lungs. And just

[39:00] take a deep, slow breath.

[39:03] When you inhale, notice that you're

[39:05] breathing in life force energy.

[39:08] And when you exhale, you're letting go

[39:10] of old energy that's no longer needed.

[39:14] That is how the energy system is

[39:16] designed. Energy comes in, energy goes

[39:19] out.

[39:24] Float your hands down.

[39:27] We're going to come back to that early

[39:28] exercise. Buddha holds up the earth but

[39:30] very soft and slow. The beginning we

[39:33] were stretching and opening the lungs

[39:36] and now we let the chi flow and

[39:38] circulate. Soft slow movement. Now

[39:43] inhale, float the hands up.

[39:46] Little pause at the top of the inhale.

[39:51] Exhale. Float the hands down slowly and

[39:54] softly. Little pause at the bottom of

[39:57] the exhale.

[40:01] Inhale. And notice how calm and clear

[40:04] your mind is when the breath is still,

[40:08] when the breath is slow.

[40:17] Inhale. Float the hands up. Nice and

[40:20] slow. Slow down the body.

[40:24] Slow down your mind.

[40:48] Good. Inhale. Coming up.

[40:54] Bring the hands down

[40:58] into this lower embracing the tree. Just

[41:02] continue that slow breathing. Arms

[41:05] around like these lower branches. Feel

[41:07] your roots in the ground. Feel your

[41:09] breath soft, deep, and full.

[41:17] And these beautiful trees are great

[41:18] Chiang masters. They teach us how to

[41:20] stay connected. Connected to the earth

[41:22] below, connected to the sky above, and

[41:26] taking in the energy from all around.

[41:29] Some of these trees here can live

[41:31] thousands of years. Always connect to

[41:36] your source of energy, earth, sky, and

[41:39] nature.

[41:51] Bring your hands down. Check in. Notice

[41:54] how you feel. These little check-in

[41:56] points are just short meditations where

[41:59] we go inward and feel the energy in our

[42:01] bodies.

[42:04] Good. And now pull down the sky. Inhale.

[42:08] Palms face toward you. Exhale. Float the

[42:11] hands down.

[42:14] And a deep breath.

[42:19] Slow exhale. These waves of relaxation

[42:22] just moving through the body. Healing

[42:25] energy. Gather it from all around you.

[42:27] Let it wash down and flow through you.

[43:04] nice slow deep breaths.

[43:08] Just check in. What kind of energy do

[43:10] you need for the rest of your day? Bring

[43:12] it in. A little more mental clarity, a

[43:15] little more healing energy in the body.

[43:18] Float the hands up and let's bring it

[43:21] all back to our center. Bring the hands

[43:24] over the belly. Bring your feet

[43:25] together.

[43:29] Good. And just take two, three deep

[43:31] breaths into your center. Let that

[43:32] energy stay with you.

[43:35] Feel the chi circulating in your body.

[43:37] Feel the calmness in your mind.

[43:54] and relax.

[43:55] Have a wonderful rest of your day.

[44:09] Hello. Hello. How was that practice

[44:11] everybody? Yeah. Was that good? We got

[44:14] another Oh, I got some clapping coming

[44:16] in.

[44:17] >> Do you know the chiong applause?

[44:18] >> What's the chiong applause? Energy ball

[44:20] applause.

[44:20] >> Yeah. Yeah. You don't slap. You just

[44:22] Yeah.

[44:23] >> You can feel that. Yeah. It's like if my

[44:26] energy ball is bigger, does it look like

[44:27] that?

[44:28] >> Yeah. Exactly.

[44:28] >> Yeah. Or we can like each other's

[44:30] >> Oh, high five. Yeah.

[44:31] >> High five. Energy ball. Yeah. So, in

[44:33] today's workshop, uh we used the energy

[44:36] ball for the first time in this chi

[44:38] challenge. I wanted Lee to kind of break

[44:39] that down for us and explain why this is

[44:43] part of the practice and maybe some

[44:45] other benefits from noticing this and

[44:48] how that impacts the body.

[44:49] >> Yeah, I think it really gives you an aha

[44:51] moment especially when people are new to

[44:53] Chiang when they

[44:55] >> make an energy ball. I mean, even 38

[44:58] years later of making energy balls, I'm

[45:00] always like,

[45:01] >> "Wow,

[45:02] this is amazing. You have there's so

[45:05] much sensation and nothing is touching.

[45:08] It's it's we're so ingrained that

[45:10] everything is physical that this is my

[45:12] body. These are the things and that's

[45:15] what's important. When really the saying

[45:17] in Chiang is life is ruled by invisible

[45:20] forces. And the invisible forces can be

[45:23] something mystical like consciousness or

[45:26] it can just be like gravity. Gravity is

[45:28] invisible but it's ruling over

[45:31] everything. Air invisible. But we have

[45:33] to breathe. But you have an

[45:35] electromagnetic field around you. And

[45:38] that is often like wow. And when you

[45:41] activate your energy, this field gets

[45:44] stronger and more coherent. And the

[45:47] coherent energy field is what creates

[45:50] healing or that connection between the

[45:54] mind and the body. When it's in

[45:56] congruent or out of coherence, it's like

[45:59] our mind and our body are at opposite

[46:01] ends, right? And so we want those things

[46:04] working together as the same team. We

[46:05] want your energy lined up. And so when

[46:08] you're making these chi balls, it gives

[46:10] us a wow factor. It reminds us that

[46:13] everything isn't just what our five

[46:15] senses tell us. There's something going

[46:17] on that's beyond that. And that's a very

[46:20] important part of

[46:21] >> chiong. Yeah. And so when we talk about

[46:23] chiong, when we talk about energy work,

[46:25] does anyone here, just by show of hands,

[46:27] did anyone have trouble feeling the

[46:29] energy ball today? Did anyone have any

[46:32] trouble with that? Just out of

[46:34] curiosity. Perfect. So, let's do this. I

[46:36] want to show you guys one quick thing of

[46:38] how you might really intensely feel this

[46:41] energy ball. And I'm going to put uh Lee

[46:44] on the spot here because I I'm very

[46:46] familiar. He's going to be very familiar

[46:47] with this work. And we're going to do a

[46:49] quick yang and yin practice with the

[46:52] energy ball so you can really deeply

[46:54] experience this in the ball and then in

[46:56] your body. So in the beginning, uh, Lee

[46:59] was showing me this horse stance.

[47:00] >> Can you go into the horse stance?

[47:02] >> And so here's what's really interesting

[47:04] about the body. So if everyone can stand

[47:06] up and if it's comfortable for you, join

[47:08] us in horse stance. If not, you can stay

[47:10] in a chair and you can just tense these

[47:12] muscles and push them into the ground.

[47:14] So, if you just push your feet into the

[47:16] ground, if you don't feel comfortable

[47:17] standing, but for those of you that can

[47:19] join us in this horse stance, you can

[47:21] join us in this. And what happens here

[47:23] is the longer we hold this, the more

[47:26] energy is being used to stabilize the

[47:29] body. You're cultivating yang. You're

[47:32] cultivating fatigue and your body is

[47:34] being forced to use energy. And what's

[47:37] interesting about being in these

[47:39] postures and being forced to hold energy

[47:42] is you can start to feel that

[47:43] electricity, that battery charging up.

[47:46] >> We're going to hold this for maybe 30 to

[47:48] 60 more seconds. Lee, can you guide us

[47:50] through a quick breath work to make this

[47:51] a little less struggle?

[47:53] >> Yeah. And that that is such a good point

[47:55] because as gong, chiong, gong means

[47:58] work. So, we're working these muscles

[47:59] that are so important and it's helping

[48:01] us to get grounded. So breathe into your

[48:04] center and maybe even have your arms

[48:06] round and see if you can breathe right

[48:07] into your belly and just feel when you

[48:10] breathe into your center that some

[48:12] energy goes down to the ground. And you

[48:14] can even imagine that you have roots

[48:16] extended into the ground that you're

[48:18] connected to the earth and you're

[48:20] plugged in. So the earth is source

[48:23] energy. We're plugged in. We're

[48:25] breathing slow and deep right into our

[48:27] bellies

[48:31] and we're getting grounded. To really be

[48:33] grounded, people will talk about being

[48:35] grounded, but this actually gets you

[48:37] grounded, not just in a theoretical

[48:39] sense.

[48:41] Anybody else feeling the energy charging

[48:43] up in the body right now?

[48:46] >> Skip, I used to have to do this for an

[48:47] hour at a time.

[48:48] >> Oh my gosh.

[48:48] >> In my training, just hold this for an

[48:50] hour.

[48:51] >> No, sometimes they halfway through

[48:53] they'd go lift your arms up. That was a

[48:54] big exciting part of class. [laughter]

[48:56] Like, oh my god, this is finally we

[48:59] moved.

[49:00] >> So, I never teach like that because it

[49:01] was so strenuous and hard.

[49:04] >> Half the class left.

[49:06] >> Yeah, that makes sense.

[49:07] >> Yeah, that was the hardcore teaching.

[49:09] >> And so, now that we've built up that

[49:10] energy, maybe we can come out of it and

[49:12] now guide us through feeling that energy

[49:14] ball.

[49:15] >> Great. Now just put your hands so they

[49:17] face towards each other and then very

[49:19] slowly

[49:20] come closer together and then further

[49:24] apart

[49:26] and closer together.

[49:29] Further apart and then what I like to do

[49:31] is just hold the hands maybe three

[49:33] inches apart. Close the eyes and just

[49:36] put your attention in the space between

[49:38] your hands and notice nothing is

[49:40] touching but there's quite a bit of

[49:42] sensation. If you're not feeling much,

[49:44] that's totally fine. Some people don't

[49:46] have as much sensation when they do

[49:48] these practices. It doesn't mean it's

[49:50] not there. You still are charging up,

[49:53] but put your awareness right between

[49:55] your hands.

[49:58] And then the last thing to do is just

[49:59] slowly bring your hands to your sides

[50:02] and notice how your hands feel. If you

[50:05] just bring your hands to your sides,

[50:06] notice how your hands feel and see if

[50:08] you feel that tingling chi flow, that

[50:11] inner electricity activated.

[50:15] >> I certainly do.

[50:16] >> Absolutely. And so this is the

[50:18] interesting part. If you guys remember

[50:19] yesterday, if you were here at the chi

[50:21] challenge or you saw the recording on

[50:22] YouTube, uh where Lee and I were talking

[50:25] about the differences between physical

[50:26] energy and sort of emotional energy or

[50:28] spirit energy of chi where if you take

[50:32] something that's physical, that thing is

[50:34] now gone. But with energy, if we

[50:37] high-five now, we both have more energy.

[50:40] And so what you just experienced in that

[50:41] horse stance is the way that your

[50:43] physical body works is by using energy,

[50:46] you actually get more. Yeah.

[50:48] >> So, you actually gained more energy by

[50:50] using energy. Now, what I want Lee to

[50:53] guide you through really quickly is the

[50:55] yin version of the same thing. So, give

[50:56] me just a moment here.

[51:04] >> Guys, I never know what Skip's coming up

[51:05] with. He doesn't he doesn't quue me on

[51:07] any of these things. So, it's very

[51:09] spontaneous. Now, I'm sitting. [snorts]

[51:11] So can you guide us through a very quick

[51:14] meditation to feel restore calm and then

[51:18] create an energy ball and feel the

[51:19] difference

[51:20] >> between the intense yang energy ball and

[51:23] the gentle yin energy ball.

[51:25] >> Yeah. So go ahead and just have your

[51:27] palms face up in your lap and take a few

[51:32] slow deep breaths. And that slow

[51:35] breathing is yin. So we're just going to

[51:37] slowly breathe

[51:41] And I just want you to imagine this

[51:44] waterfall of energy from from the

[51:46] universe coming down and this waterfall

[51:49] of energy washing down from the top of

[51:51] your head.

[51:53] This warm waterfall of energy right at

[51:55] the back of your neck, washing away

[51:57] tension and tightness out of the neck

[51:59] and shoulders.

[52:01] So take a deep breath. Just tell those

[52:02] muscles to relax.

[52:05] Relax.

[52:07] And feel the muscles in the neck and

[52:08] shoulders relax a little bit more

[52:11] and a little bit more.

[52:15] And this universal stream of water, this

[52:18] warm current just washing down through

[52:21] the back of the neck, down through both

[52:24] sides of your spine,

[52:26] down through your shoulders. This

[52:28] healing energy

[52:31] water has a cleansing and relaxing

[52:35] principle to it. Whenever we're around

[52:38] water, we just [sighs]

[52:41] But that water energy is always there

[52:43] and we're accessing it now,

[52:47] relaxation.

[52:51] Relaxation and water is a yin energy

[52:55] that creates inner peace.

[53:00] And just take a slow deep breath and

[53:02] feel the energy that is normally held as

[53:05] tension in your neck and shoulders just

[53:07] flowing down both arms

[53:11] and arriving into your hands.

[53:14] Feel your hands

[53:17] open and relaxed.

[53:21] And then just turn now turn your hands

[53:22] towards each other.

[53:25] Palms face towards each other. And go

[53:26] very slow. Just very slowly bring the

[53:29] hands closer together. Yin is also slow.

[53:32] And then very slowly, extra slow, let

[53:35] them float apart.

[53:40] And a little closer together. Very

[53:42] slowly. And this is yin energy.

[53:45] And now hold them just three inches

[53:47] apart.

[53:50] And I want you to do something

[53:52] extraordinary. Now I want you to ask

[53:53] yourself a question. Ask the chi a

[53:55] question in her hands.

[53:57] What would it feel like if the energy

[53:59] got twice as strong

[54:02] and witness the chi in your hands

[54:05] getting twice as strong? What would it

[54:09] feel like if the energy was twice as

[54:11] strong and then feel the energy in your

[54:15] hands amplify?

[54:21] Yin is intention. It's the energy of the

[54:24] mind. So if you felt a shift when you

[54:26] asked that question, that is the yin

[54:28] power.

[54:30] What would it feel like if it got twice

[54:32] as strong

[54:34] and all of a sudden the energy in the

[54:36] hands amplifies?

[54:39] Bring the hands back to your lap

[54:45] and feel the hands. Feel the quality of

[54:47] energy in your hands. Now,

[54:53] now just go ahead and take that energy

[54:55] and bring it somewhere that you might

[54:56] need a little extra healing cuz we just

[54:58] amplify the energy and just take it to

[55:00] your body somewhere. Is it your heart

[55:02] center? Is it your neck, your shoulders,

[55:07] your digestion? Wherever you want a

[55:09] little extra healing, just put it right

[55:11] there.

[55:16] Wonderful.

[55:18] And now our yin and our yang has been

[55:20] activated. And you'll see this was a

[55:23] great exercise that Skip

[55:25] um showcased because in chiong practice

[55:28] when you do both yin and yang practices

[55:32] you create polarity and polarity creates

[55:35] charge. So you get more energy. And that

[55:37] is one of the secret recipes of good

[55:40] chiong practices. In the beginning more

[55:43] yang in the end more yin. energy

[55:46] amplify. So you'll see if you come to

[55:49] the video class subscription always in

[55:51] the beginning we do purging, we do more

[55:54] activations, we do more workout,

[55:57] more yang, and then towards the end we

[55:59] go more yin. We go soft flowing

[56:02] movements into a seated meditation. And

[56:06] if you look at any Chiang classes or

[56:08] Chiang teachers, you might see some of

[56:11] these kinds of things happening. always

[56:13] playing with the yin and the yang. And

[56:16] if you just do one, that's great.

[56:19] But if you do both, it is like a perfect

[56:22] recipe for your energy system.

[56:26] Thank you, Skip. That was great.

[56:28] Absolutely beautiful, everybody. Um, so

[56:31] the thing I want to highlight about that

[56:33] A, they're clapping for you. That was

[56:35] fantastic. Um, so on day one of the chi

[56:38] challenge, we talked about this dynamic

[56:40] between sort of yang and yin and this

[56:42] excitatory. And isn't it so beautiful to

[56:45] so rapidly go back and forth between the

[56:47] two so that you're actually expanding

[56:49] your capacity in both directions? You

[56:52] can expand that young and that ability

[56:54] to be energized and alive and you can

[56:56] expand that ability to be calm and

[56:58] centered and peaceful. And that's the

[57:00] beauty of Lee's practice and in the

[57:02] membership. So, for those of you that

[57:04] haven't already joined us in VIP, I know

[57:06] about 2,000 of you have already to get

[57:09] your first month in the membership. This

[57:11] is what Lee gets to teach and what you

[57:13] get to attend three days a week. Is Sue,

[57:16] are you are you crying because of the

[57:18] practice? Was that beautiful? I'm just

[57:19] curious. Yes, you just thumbs up me.

[57:23] >> A Yeah, the healing. That's beautiful.

[57:25] That's so wonderful.

[57:27] >> Um, and so, you know, Lee teaches three

[57:29] days a week in that membership. So, if

[57:30] you haven't done VIP already, um we'll

[57:33] drop links in the chat and you'll see

[57:34] emails about that to join us in class

[57:36] next week because I know we're going to

[57:37] miss seeing all of your smiling faces

[57:39] this week in the chi challenge. So, with

[57:42] that being said, tomorrow is going to be

[57:44] day four of the chi challenge. And to

[57:46] really help you understand what's coming

[57:49] tomorrow, also answer some of your

[57:50] questions, we're going to bring up the

[57:52] wonderful Jenny Bertram again, who is uh

[57:55] just a light in all of our lives. Lee,

[57:58] is there anything you'd like to share

[57:59] about Jenny before she comes on, guides

[58:01] them through a couple movements, breaks

[58:02] them down for tomorrow ahead of time?

[58:04] And then also, I know we have a prize

[58:07] winner, and Jenny's going to announce

[58:09] who that is that's going to get one year

[58:11] of the membership uh for being so

[58:14] incredible. It's always surprise winners

[58:16] each day up until Friday where we're

[58:18] going to have our three big winners of

[58:19] bestqi most supportive and whoever is

[58:22] going to win the grand prize that's

[58:23] going to get a lifetime subscription and

[58:25] a one-on-one with Lee Holden.

[58:28] >> How wonderful. Oh, Jenny. Jenny's

[58:31] speaking of wonderful, Jenny just such a

[58:34] light. She's always so supportive of me.

[58:36] She's the light in my life. Whenever I

[58:38] need more chi or bounce something off

[58:41] somebody, more reflection, a spiritual

[58:43] answer to a mundane problem, I'm like,

[58:46] Jenny, please. Here's what I got going

[58:49] on. And she helps to enlighten me. She's

[58:52] my enlightened tiger. So, she can be all

[58:54] your enlightened tigers for a few

[58:56] minutes now, guys. And she's going to

[58:57] take you through some practices, go

[59:00] through a little bit of what we're doing

[59:02] tomorrow, like Skip said. and um just so

[59:06] grateful that Jenny is part of our our

[59:08] wonderful team.

[59:09] >> Thank you so much. You're in great

[59:11] hands. We'll see you tomorrow,

[59:12] everybody.

[59:14] >> Thank you, Lee. Thank you, Skip. What an

[59:17] honor. Oh my gosh, I am so happy to be

[59:20] here. I can't even tell you. Um I am

[59:23] feeling collectively this energy of this

[59:26] group has just been so um big and

[59:30] evolving and beautiful and healing and

[59:33] supportive. So, thank you everybody

[59:35] who's been here. Um, I'm really excited.

[59:38] Yesterday, actually, I forgot, we

[59:40] forgot, we got so excited that we forgot

[59:43] to announce the day one winner. And then

[59:45] I have a day two winner that I'm so

[59:48] happy to announce. Our day one winner

[59:50] was Laura Guestella. And I just want to

[59:54] say happy healing to Laura. Thank you

[59:56] for being here. And remember, this is

[59:58] your practice and it just enjoy it. And

[1:00:01] then our second winner for yet for

[1:00:03] yesterday was our awesome Janet Rousovi

[1:00:07] and it was Janet's birthday yesterday.

[1:00:09] So very happy related to Janet. Janet

[1:00:13] we're Janice we're so happy that you

[1:00:17] received this. Um you're such a great

[1:00:19] member of the community and gosh so good

[1:00:22] to be here with you. Um so

[1:00:24] congratulations. Now, there we have some

[1:00:26] questions about people that are still

[1:00:28] wondering where to actually leave the

[1:00:32] comment um for so you can be eligible

[1:00:35] for the prizes. So, I'm actually going

[1:00:37] to share my screen and then I'll

[1:00:40] actually do that at the end, but we'll

[1:00:42] share you exactly where to go, how to

[1:00:45] watch the replays, and where to actually

[1:00:47] comment. So, before we do that, um I

[1:00:50] want to answer a few questions that were

[1:00:53] written in. So, we're going to take a

[1:00:56] few of those written in questions that

[1:00:57] were from the chat, and this is going to

[1:00:59] help you move forward with your practice

[1:01:02] of letting go. So, somebody was asking

[1:01:04] more about the feet position um while we

[1:01:07] do enlightened tiger. And I'm going to

[1:01:09] stand up. I'm going to show you a little

[1:01:12] bit about that because this is one of

[1:01:14] those beautiful flows that you can do

[1:01:18] anytime during the day. As Lee had said,

[1:01:20] this is an amazing flow that helps you

[1:01:23] get back into the here, the now, the the

[1:01:27] precious moment that we're in. How we

[1:01:29] can let go of the worries that we think

[1:01:32] about in the future and then our past

[1:01:34] heaviness of, you know, things that

[1:01:37] happened in the past. So, this is a

[1:01:39] great way to bring that back together.

[1:01:40] So, I'm actually going to hold my screen

[1:01:43] down so you can actually see my feet.

[1:01:46] So, bear with me. So

[1:01:50] the feet are actually

[1:01:54] facing forward and a little bit

[1:01:58] um maybe a little bit com you want it

[1:02:00] comfortable on the lateral sides of your

[1:02:03] shoulders and you want a nice soft knee.

[1:02:06] Now you can still see my hips and my

[1:02:08] waist.

[1:02:10] Um, and you might not see my hands at

[1:02:12] first, but I'm going to come through the

[1:02:15] center. And see how I have a nice soft

[1:02:17] bend. Feet are staying planted. And I'm

[1:02:20] turning at the hips and the waist. And

[1:02:23] I'm doing my tiger claw. And I'm

[1:02:26] inhaling up. So you just keep those feet

[1:02:30] planted.

[1:02:32] And things to watch out for are is

[1:02:34] collapsing your knees. You want to make

[1:02:36] sure you're nice and soft and you're

[1:02:39] turning more at the hips and waist. Now,

[1:02:42] if you don't get this much

[1:02:46] um of an involvement around your hips

[1:02:48] and waist, it's okay. You don't have to

[1:02:50] go all the way. You can just go here.

[1:02:53] Close your eyes. Enjoy the moment and

[1:02:56] feeling the air between your hands.

[1:02:59] Okay? So your feet are planted and your

[1:03:02] knees are soft and you're turning at the

[1:03:04] hips and the waist. All right. So that's

[1:03:07] our enlightened tiger. So happy to help

[1:03:10] you with that.

[1:03:12] And the and somebody's asking if the

[1:03:15] feet were staggered. No, they're at the

[1:03:16] same they're at the same position

[1:03:19] parallel uh equal parts. And sometimes

[1:03:22] for women sometimes it's more comfort or

[1:03:24] anybody your feet can be a little bit

[1:03:27] turned out as well. And that kind of

[1:03:29] helps open the hips as well. So you can

[1:03:31] turn from the center of the danten.

[1:03:35] All right. There was another question

[1:03:37] about soaring eagle that somebody asked

[1:03:40] yesterday. Really excited about this

[1:03:42] because it's one of my favorite

[1:03:44] movements. I'm actually going to do it

[1:03:46] seated. You can do it seated. So Lee in

[1:03:50] the video he did it with soaring eagle

[1:03:54] just going up and down. Actually, I'm

[1:03:57] going to stand.

[1:04:01] I love Sar Eagle. So,

[1:04:05] you can keep it with this variation.

[1:04:09] You can just

[1:04:11] fly up, inhale,

[1:04:13] and fly down and exhale.

[1:04:17] You can try that.

[1:04:19] Nice and soft. Inhale. And notice

[1:04:21] there's a nice lightness in my knees.

[1:04:25] And another thing to look out for is try

[1:04:28] not to bend your wrists too much. Just

[1:04:31] like you're that beautiful wing. See the

[1:04:33] tips of the wing. My middle fingers.

[1:04:36] Now, sometimes you'll see Lee doing

[1:04:39] this.

[1:04:40] He'll inhale

[1:04:43] and he crosses his hands at the top

[1:04:47] and he inhales.

[1:04:49] And this is a great variation if you

[1:04:51] feel like you want to add it to your

[1:04:53] letting go practice because what it does

[1:04:55] is it helps you fill the whole lobe.

[1:05:00] Yeah.

[1:05:01] And it also helps your mind if you want

[1:05:05] to change positions of the hand. One

[1:05:08] hand in front and the other one in back.

[1:05:12] Right? So that's just that's also

[1:05:14] soaring crane but that's another

[1:05:16] modification. Somebody asked me about

[1:05:18] that yesterday. So, have fun with that.

[1:05:20] I like doing that because you can

[1:05:22] actually reach the bottom of your lungs,

[1:05:25] right? Nice exhale. So, um

[1:05:31] yeah, there was also amazing question

[1:05:33] somebody asked yesterday about can we

[1:05:36] let go too much? Can we let go of too

[1:05:38] much? Can we actually let go of too

[1:05:40] much? So, when I put my Lee hat on, I'm

[1:05:44] going to say no. Your body is only going

[1:05:46] to let go, your spirit's only going to

[1:05:49] let go of what it can and needs to. I

[1:05:53] think where there can be a little bit of

[1:05:55] a problem is in our mind if we think we

[1:05:58] need to keep letting go. We need to keep

[1:06:00] letting go or we need to keep detoxing

[1:06:02] or something is negative and we got to

[1:06:04] let it go. Right? So in our mind when we

[1:06:08] do let go sometimes we can say hey

[1:06:11] thanks for being here. you helped me

[1:06:13] through something, but now it's time to

[1:06:15] let go and just let go and try not to

[1:06:18] ruminate on always like purging and

[1:06:21] clearing because you know what? You guys

[1:06:22] are perfect the way you are. And

[1:06:25] sometimes we just need to use our

[1:06:26] imaginations to let go of like that

[1:06:30] muddy water that Lee uses. And then

[1:06:33] we're gonna talk more about this in a

[1:06:36] little bit, but then we're going to fill

[1:06:37] that glass up with some nice delicious

[1:06:41] source energy of water as well. So

[1:06:46] that's my answer to that question. So

[1:06:48] you guys, yeah, deliberate on that as

[1:06:51] well. So um someone's um saying that

[1:06:55] sometimes this stuff is hard on the

[1:06:58] knees. So when you do have a little bit

[1:07:00] of weakness in the knees, you can always

[1:07:03] widen your stance a little bit. Like I

[1:07:06] said, you can move your toes, move your

[1:07:09] toes to where you can actually get a

[1:07:12] spring. You want to make sure that your

[1:07:14] knees are never locked. Somebody asked

[1:07:17] the question about what are my knees

[1:07:18] doing? And a lot of times we'll hear Lee

[1:07:20] saying,

[1:07:22] um, your legs, your knees are straight

[1:07:24] but not locked. So straight, meaning a

[1:07:28] little soft,

[1:07:30] um maybe a soft bend in there, but never

[1:07:33] locked. And we always want to have that

[1:07:36] buoyancy. And think about our joints

[1:07:38] with that synenovial fluid in there,

[1:07:40] that good healthy chi that can help us

[1:07:43] lift and lower. It helps us fly. Now, if

[1:07:46] anything hurts, you can always do your

[1:07:49] practice in your chair or you can always

[1:07:52] just move your arms. And remember this

[1:07:56] is an energetic practice. Yes, we're

[1:07:58] doing some physical things to work on

[1:08:00] our physical body, but energetically you

[1:08:03] can close your eyes and remember where

[1:08:06] your mind goes, the chi goes. So you're

[1:08:08] doing a wonderful chiong practice even

[1:08:12] when you, you know, you make smaller

[1:08:15] movements. So always remember that.

[1:08:18] Okay. Um, and then there's another

[1:08:21] question and then let's go into a little

[1:08:23] bit more about what we're going to do

[1:08:26] tomorrow. So, um, somebody else is

[1:08:29] asking about

[1:08:32] heart hand position.

[1:08:36] Which hand do we put on our lower

[1:08:37] dantian first and which hand goes on the

[1:08:40] outside? So, in tradition now there is a

[1:08:45] female there's a gender way of placing

[1:08:47] our hands. You know what I love about

[1:08:50] Lee is that he's bringing the gender

[1:08:53] placement out of this and saying, "Hey,

[1:08:56] whatever hand feels more comfortable,

[1:09:00] put that one down first." And whatever

[1:09:03] hand feels more comfortable on the

[1:09:04] outside, just follow up. We all have yin

[1:09:08] and yang in us, so it's it we don't need

[1:09:11] to at this point follow those things.

[1:09:13] So, whatever makes you feel comfortable

[1:09:15] on that hand position.

[1:09:18] Uh, I encourage you just do it and enjoy

[1:09:22] your practice moving forward.

[1:09:24] All right. And then let's do one more

[1:09:27] question and then I'll see where we're

[1:09:29] at um with the questions in the chat. So

[1:09:32] um somebody yesterday asked, can Chiang

[1:09:36] Can Chiong, where is it? Um support the

[1:09:39] liver and the immune system? And I'm

[1:09:43] going to put my Lee hat on and I'm also

[1:09:45] going to keep my own hat on and say

[1:09:47] absolutely yes. The thing about Chiang

[1:09:51] again is it's energetic. When we're

[1:09:53] moving and we're we're just moving and

[1:09:56] flowing, we're going to be increasing

[1:09:58] chi and blood flow. And when we increase

[1:10:01] chi and blood flow to anywhere in the

[1:10:04] body, we can support our body's inherent

[1:10:07] healing mechanism. Now we were born to

[1:10:11] heal and we were also born to die.

[1:10:14] Right? So remember we have this healing

[1:10:17] energy in us and if we get out of the

[1:10:20] way

[1:10:22] that inherent healing energy can go

[1:10:25] where it needs to go. So with that said

[1:10:28] when we're doing chiong

[1:10:30] like I said where the mind goes goes.

[1:10:33] Um, we can actually use creativity and

[1:10:37] certain movements and sounds and colors,

[1:10:40] things that Lee had mentioned to go to

[1:10:43] different areas in the body and our mind

[1:10:46] is going to help us bring that healing

[1:10:48] energy there. And a lot of times when we

[1:10:50] do that, it's really great. You'll

[1:10:52] you'll see or hear Lee teaching us the

[1:10:55] mechanisms of the actual flow. And I'm

[1:10:58] doing this because we're going to do the

[1:11:00] fountain a little bit. But once we get

[1:11:02] the mechanism down, we can actually take

[1:11:05] the back seat and allow our body to take

[1:11:08] over and do the healing that it needs

[1:11:10] to. And that's where we are going with

[1:11:14] our chiong practice. The healing knows

[1:11:16] where to happen. So if you notice um

[1:11:19] also in the art of letting go immunity

[1:11:22] the lungs are actually one of the main

[1:11:26] organs that oversee our immune system

[1:11:29] and we call it our way chi our defensive

[1:11:31] chi. So what we're doing now is we're

[1:11:34] not only letting go during this five day

[1:11:37] challenge or six days we're going to

[1:11:39] celebrate on the sixth day but we're

[1:11:41] also increasing our immunity. Um, and

[1:11:44] the more free flow we have, the moreQ

[1:11:47] chi is going in and that's our stronger

[1:11:50] immunity as well. And the part there's

[1:11:52] another part about the the liver. Um,

[1:11:55] and I'm just going to speak to this

[1:11:58] actual art of art of letting go is that

[1:12:01] a lot of these twisting movements that

[1:12:03] we're doing,

[1:12:06] just think we're moving, we're

[1:12:08] breathing, we're massaging each and

[1:12:10] every organ. So, not only the lungs, not

[1:12:13] only the liver, not only the large

[1:12:15] intestine that we're going to talk more

[1:12:17] about, we're we're squeezing and

[1:12:20] massaging our kidneys, our spleen, our

[1:12:23] stomach, our pancreas. And that is the

[1:12:26] beauty of Chiang. So, also we're moving

[1:12:29] our spine all the time, right? And just

[1:12:32] think each organ innervates

[1:12:36] at the spine at a certain level. So when

[1:12:39] we do these twisting movements and we're

[1:12:42] enlivening the spine

[1:12:45] as gent nice and gentle, we're actually

[1:12:48] increasing conductivity to our organs.

[1:12:51] So I just wanted to remind you on that

[1:12:54] as well. So those are some of the chiong

[1:12:56] questions that I'm going to help answer

[1:12:59] today. Um but let's think about well

[1:13:02] first I want to remind you today was all

[1:13:04] about refining what states, right? We're

[1:13:07] refining um the the closing reflection

[1:13:10] is where do you need to reinforce a

[1:13:13] boundary physical or emotion emotional

[1:13:15] today. So really asking yourself what am

[1:13:18] I what am I letting go of? Where do I

[1:13:21] need to actually place this boundary or

[1:13:26] you know an aha kind of moment that says

[1:13:29] hey this is not working for me and you

[1:13:31] have that nice feeling in your gut that

[1:13:34] tells you let it go. And then we're

[1:13:36] going to think about what we're going to

[1:13:38] talk about more tomorrow. And I already

[1:13:40] introduced the large intestine in is

[1:13:43] we're going to refine a little bit more.

[1:13:46] And after that refinement, we're going

[1:13:47] to bring in a little bit of cleansing.

[1:13:50] So

[1:13:51] um tomorrow, so we're going to continue

[1:13:54] always continue. We're going to continue

[1:13:56] breathing, connecting with that breath.

[1:13:58] So it's all about inhaling and letting

[1:14:01] go. The large intestine is all about

[1:14:04] discernment and elimination. Let's get

[1:14:06] rid of it and let's hold on to this. And

[1:14:09] now we're going to softly bring in some

[1:14:11] wa water. We're going to start cleaning

[1:14:14] out what we let go if there's any

[1:14:17] residual things that need to let go of.

[1:14:20] And I I like to talk about what happens

[1:14:23] during this phase of this is day four.

[1:14:26] And sometimes I talk about this as I I

[1:14:28] refer to it as the fish tank theory.

[1:14:31] Right? So, when you look at a fish tank

[1:14:34] and it looks super clear and the fish

[1:14:36] look amazing and they're they're

[1:14:38] swimming and all of a sudden you stick

[1:14:39] your hand in there and you do this and

[1:14:42] all of a sudden stuff starts floating

[1:14:44] all up, right? And some of us are

[1:14:46] feeling that right now. We may be

[1:14:48] feeling a little bit of like that

[1:14:51] waste product that's now, you know,

[1:14:53] emotion or maybe we're eliminating more

[1:14:56] or maybe we're coughing out some fleg

[1:15:00] literally or maybe in our mind emotion

[1:15:03] has come up and we're like I didn't know

[1:15:06] that was there. Right? So fish tank

[1:15:09] theory is kind of happening now. And

[1:15:11] what going to happen tomorrow is we're

[1:15:14] going to bring in that uh beautiful flow

[1:15:16] that helps bring up this heavenly dew or

[1:15:19] this water uh the winter water element

[1:15:23] and we're going to come through and

[1:15:25] we're going to start cleaning out that

[1:15:27] residual um the things that are just

[1:15:30] kind of sticking around. So we're going

[1:15:33] to move from start moving from metal to

[1:15:36] water. And in nature, that actually

[1:15:38] happens everywhere we see, especially

[1:15:41] with the seasons. So, we move from fall

[1:15:44] into winter. So, now we're letting go of

[1:15:47] the leaves, and pretty soon the wisdom

[1:15:51] of winter is going to come in and start

[1:15:54] cleaning us, letting us sleep, bringing

[1:15:58] more peace, bringing more wisdom, being

[1:16:01] more connected to the source, whatever

[1:16:03] that source is for you. It might be

[1:16:04] mother nature. It might be Quan Yen. It

[1:16:08] might be um Jesus. It might be Mary. It

[1:16:11] might be somebody else something else.

[1:16:14] It might be just a beautiful flower that

[1:16:18] is in your backyard. But there's

[1:16:21] something to connect and that wisdom can

[1:16:24] sit there without all of this other

[1:16:27] stuff kind of blocking um you. So,

[1:16:30] moving forward. All right. Tomorrow we

[1:16:33] continue with this. So I want to talk a

[1:16:36] little bit about a sequence that we're

[1:16:38] going to do tomorrow and

[1:16:42] it involves a lot of you know this.

[1:16:44] We're going to talk about fanning the

[1:16:46] fire. We're going to move into tiger

[1:16:49] clears the way and then we're going to

[1:16:51] move into the fountain. So either just

[1:16:53] listen to me talk about it or you can I

[1:16:56] invite you to stand up and do this with

[1:16:59] me and you're only going to see a little

[1:17:01] bit. So, some of you have done fanning

[1:17:03] the fire multiple times. It's a breath,

[1:17:06] it's a breath practice, and you just

[1:17:09] find a comfortable stance. You can

[1:17:11] actually do this seated if you want. And

[1:17:13] again, whatever hand falls first on that

[1:17:16] lower dantenne, the center of your palm,

[1:17:19] you want that about an inch or a fingers

[1:17:21] width

[1:17:23] down from your lower belly, belly

[1:17:25] button. Just find that space. And then

[1:17:29] we're gonna start breathing. So we

[1:17:31] inhale through the nose and we exhale

[1:17:34] through the mouth. So fanning the fire

[1:17:36] goes something like this.

[1:17:42] Now notice my belly when I start fanning

[1:17:45] the fire. Let's see. You'll see my belly

[1:17:48] go. When I breathe in, it goes out.

[1:17:56] So, this is a little bit a little bit

[1:17:58] more of an advanced breath work

[1:18:00] practice, but just be gentle. Try not to

[1:18:03] force anything. And here we're working

[1:18:07] the metal energy, the metal of the lung

[1:18:09] and the large intestine. Right?

[1:18:17] Now, if you get dizzy or if you get

[1:18:19] uncomfortable, just soften it up and

[1:18:22] just do some lower belly breathing and

[1:18:24] that works, too. All right. Again, this

[1:18:27] is a challenge, so it's good to push

[1:18:29] yourself in a little bit of a way, but

[1:18:31] if it's uncomfortable, don't do it. So,

[1:18:34] inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale,

[1:18:38] exhale. And we're going to start fanning

[1:18:41] the fire. We're going to start bringing

[1:18:44] more to the surface. We're going to

[1:18:46] start inhaling, exhaling.

[1:18:49] Okay. So, once we bring things to the

[1:18:51] surface, we're going to move into a

[1:18:54] invigorating movement called tiger

[1:18:57] clears the way. So, some of you have

[1:19:00] done this. Now, um from here, we're just

[1:19:03] going to start with our hands above our

[1:19:05] head and we're going to clear the way

[1:19:08] out to the sky. We're going to move all

[1:19:12] of that brush. We're going to inhale up.

[1:19:15] And now we're going to do a double pump

[1:19:17] down and up. Bring it in.

[1:19:23] Inhale.

[1:19:28] Inhale. Double pump. Exhale.

[1:19:32] Inhale.

[1:19:34] And exhale. There we go. Tiger. Okay,

[1:19:37] now we got the mechanics down. Up and

[1:19:41] down. Feet are planted. Buoyancy in

[1:19:43] those knees. And you can inhale. Let it

[1:19:48] go. Clear it out. Inhale and clear it

[1:19:51] out. Just like this.

[1:19:55] Nice. Sometimes Lee will speed it up a

[1:19:59] little bit.

[1:20:01] And we're invigorating.

[1:20:03] Again, if this hurts your knees,

[1:20:06] modify.

[1:20:08] Tiger clears away

[1:20:12] and let's come to a nice standing still.

[1:20:15] Let's slow it down.

[1:20:17] All right. So, what we did when we do

[1:20:19] this, we open up the lungs and then we

[1:20:22] clear out the lungs. Open up the lungs.

[1:20:26] Clear out the lungs. So now when we

[1:20:29] stand and check in with ourselves

[1:20:33] again more chi has brought to the

[1:20:36] surface a little bit more right even

[1:20:38] more. I feel it in my shoulders feel it

[1:20:41] in my inguinal area. I feel it in my

[1:20:43] legs.

[1:20:45] So shake it out a little bit. And from

[1:20:47] here we mo we move into something called

[1:20:50] the fountain. And the fountain is all

[1:20:53] about bringing that water from the

[1:20:56] spring up into your

[1:21:00] body.

[1:21:02] And I'm going to talk you through this

[1:21:04] out. So feet are planted

[1:21:07] and picture

[1:21:10] this spring water coming up through the

[1:21:13] bottom of your feet, bubbling springs.

[1:21:16] And we're pulling up this

[1:21:19] clearing out what you just

[1:21:21] brought to the surface. Now, notice

[1:21:24] where my hands stop. We're bringing

[1:21:27] pulling up that water up to kidney 27

[1:21:31] and we're letting it flow out of our

[1:21:34] body.

[1:21:36] Up

[1:21:38] and out. This is the fountain.

[1:21:42] Inhale

[1:21:44] and exhale.

[1:21:55] All of what you just

[1:21:59] brought to the surface is being

[1:22:01] cleansed.

[1:22:04] And let's bring our hands to the side

[1:22:08] and sense and feel.

[1:22:12] Nice.

[1:22:13] So, we're taking in a little bit more

[1:22:16] breath and then we're moving our

[1:22:18] intestines.

[1:22:20] We're getting everything kind of like

[1:22:22] that fish tank. We're stirring it up.

[1:22:25] We're bringing it to the surface and

[1:22:27] then we're washing it away with the

[1:22:29] fountain. So, this is a series that you

[1:22:32] will do tomorrow.

[1:22:35] And tomorrow is all about building and

[1:22:39] integrating. So, we're going to continue

[1:22:42] to build and we're gonna do a little bit

[1:22:45] more discernment about what you want to

[1:22:48] keep and what you want to let go of. So,

[1:22:51] building and integration. It's going to

[1:22:54] be wonderful. And we're going to

[1:22:55] complete the cycle of the receiving,

[1:22:58] refining, and releasing. So, those are

[1:23:02] the fanning the fire. Tiger clears the

[1:23:04] way into the fountain. And we're going

[1:23:06] to continue to build on them for day

[1:23:08] five as well.

[1:23:11] All right, everybody. That was

[1:23:13] wonderful. I'm going to check in with my

[1:23:16] team to see if there's anything else I

[1:23:19] can answer for you. Um,

[1:23:25] somebody Oh, let's do a little bit go

[1:23:27] into a little bit more about colors and

[1:23:30] sounds. So, you heard Lee talk a little

[1:23:32] bit more about sounds. He said that

[1:23:35] sounds are purging and clearing. And

[1:23:38] just think about what your body does

[1:23:40] when you sigh. The liver loves sighing.

[1:23:43] And the liver rules over all of our

[1:23:46] emotions. So if we're if we're pent up

[1:23:48] and we're tight and we're frustrated or,

[1:23:52] you know, we've been working all day

[1:23:54] kind of over our computer and our

[1:23:55] livers, just think of what we do that

[1:23:58] makes us feel good.

[1:24:00] A sign, right? So think about that as

[1:24:03] purging sounds, noises, breathing,

[1:24:06] purging out of your breath or out of

[1:24:08] your mouth is purging. And then somebody

[1:24:11] asked what is tonifying? What exactly

[1:24:13] does tonifying mean? So when you saw Lee

[1:24:16] when he was holding white light to the l

[1:24:19] his lungs and you also experienced that

[1:24:21] as well. When we picture colors,

[1:24:24] it helps nourish and it helps

[1:24:27] strengthen. So tonafyine is actually a

[1:24:30] word we use a lot in Chinese medicine

[1:24:33] and it just means that we're nourishing.

[1:24:35] You think about it, we're feeding our

[1:24:37] lungs with good food and we're

[1:24:39] strengthening it. And it's more like a

[1:24:42] tonifying, regulating, harmonizing we

[1:24:46] can say as well. We're harmonizing. And

[1:24:49] you when we do that, when you think of

[1:24:51] harmony, you think of like that

[1:24:53] fine-tuned,

[1:24:55] you know, fiddle or the the piano that

[1:24:58] resonates. And that's what we're doing

[1:24:59] to our organs when we start doing sounds

[1:25:03] and colors together. Isn't that

[1:25:05] beautiful? So, think about that next

[1:25:08] time you do your healing sounds with

[1:25:10] color as well. Harmony or resonating

[1:25:13] when we go be between the two.

[1:25:18] All right. Um

[1:25:20] I think that's what I'm going to leave

[1:25:23] you all with uh today. So we talked we

[1:25:27] went through some modifications

[1:25:29] and we went through some previewing of

[1:25:33] building and integration the faning the

[1:25:36] fire. Be sure to take your time if this

[1:25:39] is new with you if you feel lightheaded.

[1:25:41] Sometimes some of these practices do

[1:25:43] cause a little bit of lightadedness and

[1:25:45] it's because we're moving chi. But if

[1:25:48] any at any time you don't feel

[1:25:49] comfortable, you can go ahead and just

[1:25:52] um take a moment to find something that

[1:25:55] works for you. Uh you can sit down, you

[1:25:58] can slow down, or you can just like

[1:26:00] eliminate a practice al together. Maybe

[1:26:02] do something that feels comfortable like

[1:26:05] knocking on the door of life is great or

[1:26:07] spinal cord breathing or even shaking.

[1:26:11] Yeah, you can do that anytime during um

[1:26:14] any routine you want. So, before I leave

[1:26:18] everybody, I'm gonna actually do a a

[1:26:21] screen share so I can show everybody

[1:26:24] where to leave comments and um where the

[1:26:27] replays are as well. So, let me get that

[1:26:30] set up for you.

[1:26:34] Um all right, everybody. I'm going to

[1:26:38] share my screen. Actually,

[1:26:42] wait one second. Let me

[1:26:47] close a few of these.

[1:26:50] So, remember um

[1:26:53] remember in order to be eligible for

[1:26:55] these prizes, you have to post every

[1:26:58] day. Um

[1:27:01] not for the daily prizes. We that goes

[1:27:04] on each day, but there's three other

[1:27:06] prizes. the best chi, the greatest chi

[1:27:08] award, the supportive chi, and then also

[1:27:11] we have our grand prize winner. So, in

[1:27:13] order to be eligible for those you, we

[1:27:15] want you to comment in a certain space

[1:27:18] underneath the lesson, and I'm going to

[1:27:20] show you that right now.

[1:27:25] Okay. So, some of you see you can see my

[1:27:28] whole screen. Um

[1:27:32] and when you arrive on the learning

[1:27:35] platform, you will see under the video

[1:27:37] class subscription is the cheat

[1:27:39] challenge. Right? So these links that

[1:27:42] you're getting in the your email are

[1:27:44] bringing you to these

[1:27:48] practices.

[1:27:51] And when you will go today, when you

[1:27:54] arrive on your practice for the day, you

[1:27:57] want to just take your time, read

[1:28:00] through it. Um, Jenny did this great job

[1:28:03] at creating these prompts for everybody.

[1:28:07] Go through, kind of take time to be

[1:28:09] contemplative. We have this here's the

[1:28:12] closing reflection. This is what we want

[1:28:14] you to to reflect on in the actual post.

[1:28:18] There's another integration activity if

[1:28:20] you'd want to do a little bit more

[1:28:23] practice. And then this is a great thing

[1:28:25] too. We have a list of all the movements

[1:28:27] that Lee had just presented to us. And

[1:28:31] then here are the comments right

[1:28:32] underneath that that video. So you see

[1:28:36] all these amazing comments and you just

[1:28:39] type in your message right here. That's

[1:28:42] where you leave your comments, right?

[1:28:45] And so let us know if you need any more

[1:28:48] help with that, but it's all there. And

[1:28:51] then I'm going to show you where the

[1:28:52] replays are under the chi challenge.

[1:28:55] You'll see the live class events. And

[1:28:58] then you'll have this right here. The

[1:29:01] replays

[1:29:02] is a and are the replays

It was a free five-day Qi Gong program led by Lee Holden in early October 2026, built around autumn as Metal Season in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each day offered a guided practice combining movement, breath, and focused attention, and it could be done standing or seated.
Lee Holden teaches that sound is a vibration tied to qi, and in Chinese medicine the term purging means clearing out the old. Colors, by contrast, are visualized to tonify, or build and nourish energy. Used together, they let practitioners release and then receive.
The Z sound is a vocalized sound that Holden described as more directed at the physical body. It is paired with a deep breath and an open chest, often with the arms raised overhead to open the lung meridian. The practice is meant to cleanse and support the lungs without forcing the sound.
According to the challenge's description, autumn is Metal Season because, like nature, it is a time to shed what is no longer needed. Lee Holden links the lungs to the metal element, which he associates with discernment and drawing clear boundaries.
Holden says whisper sounds for the lungs help clear sadness, grief, and depression and turn them into inspiration and courage. He frames this as part of a broader idea that each organ holds different emotions.
During the Day 3 live class, co-host Skip Kelly recounted that a 2006 PBS segment was recorded to fill a gap and was expected to air in one city. It proved popular enough to be distributed nationally, and Holden took calls and mailed DVDs from his garage in the early days.
Yes. The challenge materials state that the practice can be done standing or seated, from wherever you are, and at whatever pace your body allows. The emphasis is on gentle movement and breath rather than physical strain.
